Thanks for the tutorial, this one of the best tutorials for the bmpcc6k on youtube. It was cool if you were able to tell about how to correctly set up a white balance as well.
Do you planning to make a tutorial for bmpcc6k pro as well? Yeah i know the menu is the same, but there are some updates in resolution page and more, maybe it will be useful for others as well.
Small suggestion for future videos: When reviewing associated apps it would be helpful if you would show what the app looks like for downloading. There's so many that look legit but often aren't. Anyway, just a suggestion. Great video otherwise, thank you.
A lot of good info but a couple things are incorrect and I think it is important to clear it up for everyone. 1. You can shoot in 1080 HD and UHD (3840x2160) using the full 6k sensor readout (I use it all the time) 2. Your definition of phantom power is incorrect. Phantom power sends power from your device over the XLR line so you don’t need batteries to power your microphone. But overall great video 👍🏼 thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the comment Jacob! We plan on updating this video in the near future to correct some of the things in the video. We've used this camera ton more so we've learned some things since then. As far as the phantom power thing goes, it is not a battery replacement method as you describe above. Phantom power is a +48V electrical current that runs across the diaphragm of a microphone, in turn making it more sensitive. We tried to simplify the definition for this video since this was about the camera and was already long enough. If it's something that people would like to see, Matt and I can use our combined 15 years of recording studio experience to give some tips and tricks for filmmaking. is this something that you and others would like to see?
Great review, very cool, very helpful, very professional. Just picked up the camera for a job and this is just what I needed. Keep them coming, hope your channel keeps growing! :)
11:35 So if you're shooting 4K in ProRes, you don't necessarily need to crop. On the second page on the Record tab, the "Sensor Area" option allows you to choose between 6K, 5.7K, etc. so long as you have ProRes 4KDCI/UHD/HD selected. The camera will record at the resolution you have selected in the Sensor Area option and then downsample to 4K. Because you can specify using the entire sensor, there is no crop when shooting 4K ProRes. Now if only Resolve friggin' supported ProRes RAW...

just go out and shoot. I spent years shooting on an iPhone. forced me to get my lighting correct and really think about my shot choice. camera is just a tool. no doubt you can build a roof easier with a hammer but people build houses with rocks and bamboo that are gorgeous and strong.
Super helpful overview of this camera. I picked up the camera a couple months ago but still learning it. Going to bookmark this to reference. Thanks Gear Focus!
Can you do an updated tutorial for the BMPCC 6K Pro? Also it would be nice if, instead of just talking us through the menus, you could explain some of the finer points. For example, on Setup page 2, how do you assign the settings to the three function buttons, etc.? Very nice work otherwise and I look forward to a 6K Pro tutorial soon.
still not sure why they have a sensor size choice. who would pay for a 6k camera and crop the image so much just so they could use a fraction of the sensor? I mean, thats like buying a BMW just so that you can use it to store things in the glove compartment. Same with the "selfie button"". who the hell is going to take a selfie with this thing? I do love the imagery on this though. man, first time I filmed something and graded it I almost fell out of my chair. Sadly I forgot my MacBook is an HDR monitor and most people wont see this gorgeousness on their TV. but still, rec709 looks WAY better than any other camera ive ever owned. great review, thanks much.

Hey I just got one of these cameras as a really really nice birthday present but I can't figure out how to make my footage record as MP4s. is that possible or am I in trouble?
I have one more question, how can I set up the audio settings for a stereo Mic that is recording only one side sound? I hope makes sence, in other words I get only left side audio with a 3.5 mm jack mic, thanks in advance

My studio just got this camera, am very grateful for this it's really helpful, and I wanted to know if the pro res shooting format works well with Adobe like the Black magic raw, cus adobe is my main editing software
Sorry but I need to correct you, the camera uses full sensor on all resolution if you are shooting Prores. It is only in raw where it does crop to met the shooting resolution lower then 6k because of the nature of RAW like on all cameras that shoots raw.
@@GearFocus no problem. Understandable when you are only using Raw. My mind is also set to raw 99% of the time and need to stop and think back when jumping to prores now and then :)
Will the camera menus only show in the camera? Or if I have a monitor hooked up will i be able to see it on the external monitor? Asking because i have a Focus HD and a battery plate hooked up. It would be nice to control everything from the external monitor since it's easier to see.
Dan here. Unfortunately, no. The HDMI output does not have the menu system on it. I run this camera with an Atomos Shinobi monitor and I use the buttons and wheel on the grip to change my settings on the fly. If I need to go in to the menus and change the codec or something, I just use the app. You can control the settings with the PortKeys BM5 monitor though. It's not the same menu system UI but you can still change the settings with it. Hope this helps and answers your question!
Great video thanks. Just bought the camera and this has helped so much. The camera does get heated up though. Not even 25% of the battery was used the camera was spewing heat waves from the bottom vent. Would you be able to tell me why? I am in Dubai and the temperatures here are generally very high. If the camera heats up so easily it's not going to be very good. I hope it doesn't effect its performance.
It will only switch between frame rates at the same resolution. Because 120 FPS is only available at 2.8k, you wouldn’t be able to do that. However, you could program one of the three custom buttons on too of the camera for that.
