I laugh when people hold scales by the sides with two hands it actually adds 4oz on .. Always weigh holding by the top with a bar .I've got the England RH scales can't go wrong.

Great video, that 26lb reading was with the correctly zeroed scales, if that wasn't done as well that would have been over 30lb!

Great blog especially the part where anglers hold them incorrectly and when it's tilted that was a new one for me to know 👍👍👍👍👍

Thanks Paul, yes there are some easy mistakes to make when you've just had a fish and the adrenaline is kicking in. 🐟👍

Good idea to make a video covering this topic 👍
I don't think I've ever seen anyone on UA-cam explain how to weigh fish correctly but I always see people either holding the sides of the scales and/or pouring water over the carp whilst it's lay on the sling and mat so when the pull the sling up and weigh it there's still water pouring out the sling 🤦

Thanks Philip, I've never seen one before either, and I've always wondered how much difference can be had by the way the scales are held. To be fair when I was holding them by the bottom, it was only when I really tilted them that the weight shot up, but shows how it can effect it.

@@CarpBites yeah I've always wondered if it made any difference to the weight going up or down, but regardless I know the scales (type you're using in the vid) are made to use on a tripod although you can use a T-bar or crook or as a last resort or if it's smaller your finger.
Mint idea for a video though, as it's imo quite a controversial topic, as you say you always see photos of carp saying such a weight and people don't believe it etc, or another one is fisheries claiming fish are bigger than they actually are

@@philipglancy8593 yeah tripod is the best way, but I already carry too much gear! Be lucky mate👍

Great tutorial, a lot of often overlooked info👍. Something I've been wondering is, do the digital scales have a tare memory function so you don't have to tare the sling every time it's turned on? It seems like they would but when reading the info on them, they don't advertise this as a function. Even on product review video I can't find anyone mentioning this. I'd really prefer a digital but if they can't do this it's a deal breaker for me and will be getting an analog

Your not going to have the exact same amount of water in the wet sling every single time, therefore the same sling will not weigh the same every single time. Best and only way to get an accurate weight is to zero the wet sling every time. Fox digital scales are the most accurate and they have a zero button which stays on long enough to place the fish in the sling and hoist it up on the scales 👌

Thats true mate, hope you enjoyed the video.
I have seen people on the bank weighing big fish incorrectly, and they don't even realise the fish is 4lb less than they see on the scales usually they are so happy to catch a pb that I do not want to burst their bubble. These are the people that need to see this video. So often I see pictures of the scales dials on social media (a close up of the dial saing 30.2oz) as if that is proof of a fishes weight, not if it's weighed incorrectly it isn't.
