I’m on day 7 of intermittent water fast (1 broth based meal a day) and my knee has healed itself .. it’s been years of pain. My bloated belly has disappeared .. and I have 50%more drive at the gym. Not into diets but I’m very into fasting.
@@smithstevan1702 no I used my own made broth as a ‘base’ and added 2 veggies but must be home grown - Carrot, mushroom, celery or greens but well cooked. I don’t think we are built for constant digestion constant food food food... we need rests at some point for other jobs in our bodies to play out without hindrance . I’ve never experienced such an obvious health difference on any diet. life changing but it’s takes great discipline to be a free spirit’ Free yourself from the food hook 😊🌱
@@smithstevan1702 I found too much sugars in fruit so I skipped that for awhile until my bloating stopped. And introduced a piece a day back in later. never juice fruits as it just concentrates the sugar and it’s meant to be eaten with its casing. I also feel the most important factor in any food is to try to pick it yourself or if you don’t grow fruit n veg then prioritise making friends with those that do. if you look at how mass produced food is grown , transported and polished for the shelves, it’s no wonder the worlds guts are in toxic overload. Simplicity is key I think. awesome, I wish you well on the journey 🙏🌱
I'm 57 and started Keto, OMAD and IF, over a year ago. I worked my way up to a 36 hour Fast. 12, 18, 24, 36. I didn't just go straight to 36. I lost and Kept Off 70 lbs.. Feel great. NO Knee Pain. I stopped taking Acid Reflux meds. It Works.
I love one meal a day! I am someone who likes to eat big, so I eat one really big meal - followed an hour later with a cup of coffee and a piece of toast and jam (or fruit with plain yogurt). And that is it - a two-hour-ish window eating, and a 22 hour fast. I usually eat around 200g of chicken breast with lots of vegetables and rice. I feel full, my weight is dropping fast, and I am no longer anxious about food.
I became metabolically flexible after ditching pasta, bread, rice and sweets. It took me about two to three weeks and I was just eating fatty cuts of meat, veggies sautéed in ghee, butter or lard. Eggs and bacon for breakfast. Full fat greek yogurt. I lost my craving for junk food and I was 50/50 lean, but metabolically a mess, getting hangry 😫 and having to eat immediately or I would freak out. Now I can be hungry and I don't feel bad at all. I am 56 and work production and I have a lot of energy. All my blood numbers are excellent HDL 60 triglycerides 89 and the LDL the doctor looks at to write statin prescription is high but I did my homework and educated the kind doctor about LDL cholesterol. The most doctors are brainwashed and have not done any research on the harmful SAD diet. I am shocked that they don't promote nutrition. They focus on the drugs for BP and diabetes but not healing a human. I get it. It's what they studied for a decade. Their methods obviously are not working. And most people are in denial about their eating habits. It's almost impossible to school anyone on the proper diet.
The entire food and farming industry is so deeply inbeded with support for the S.A.D. There's so much money invested into way Americans eat. And the medical industry profits from the harm.
A healthy man is no good to a doctor, the system we live in is disgraceful. Same with them so called vaccines, no one needed them...including older people, they've definitely done more harm than good in many ways...sorry to go off track as this is about diets but you get the big picture.
I read The Obesity Code and decided to try 16 hours fasting. It was a struggle, but 3 months later, I switched up to 20 hours. Four years later I eat OMAD and it is the best lifestyle choice I have ever made. I am amazed at how the body intuitively adjusts. I've since learned the body doesn't really need all that much food. Now I mainly crave vegetables and fresh fruits. Everyone is different, but OMAD is awesome for me.
I ran out of money due to circumstance and I can only eat once a day on someone’s good graces and my body adjusted by day two and now I can comfortably go 24 hours without food. My body doesn’t feel as weak as I thought it would.
@@moustachio334 to be fair very few people immediately switch to OMAD without discomfort, and often times fail as a result. It’s important people reading this understand that for most building up to it works best.
Our body is very intelligent. Our cells have very ways of keep living, and depending on your lifestyle it’ll adjust . Try putting yourself on a bit of stress and that’ll develop new mechanisms for you.
I started intermittent fasting about 18 months ago, then I've done keto for some weeks at the time. I'm 33 and this is the best decision ever, I weight the same as when i was 20 (i thought i could never look as good as the ) but stronger, sometimes i can work hard all day long without eating and without fatigue or headaches. It's a long process but it's a life changing tool that i recommend to everyone.
Fasting has completely changed my life 4 days a week I did get up to 6 days Humans live on 25% of what they eat and the other 3/4 doctors make their living on. I have completely reversed diabetes, high blood pressure, tryglicerirdes, "Sleep apnea" fatty liver, inflammation, chronic back pain. My entire quality of live as changed completely. Currently 105 lbs went from size 44 to 32. Only one year. My eyes have opened to food like I never realized what was happening to all of us by food companies and big pharma

I lost 80 lbs between keto, time restricted eating and 48 hour fasts every couple weeks. I experienced exactly what he is talking about here and my body has retained the ability to switch between carbs and fat. This is the way, 100%.
22 years ago a read a book called “Fit for Life” by Bill Phillips. It advocated 7 meals a days. Small meals obviously that keep your body getting nutrients consistently throughout. Wow!!! Want bad idea that was!! Constantly spiking blood sugar.
That's more of a bodybuilder diet... And I swear Bill Phillips is a bodybuilder but I could be wrong. The point of eating every 3 hours is for protein purposes. You body can only use so much and you want to take advantage of that if you are lifting for mass. Some bodybuilders even get up in the middle of the night and eat another meal. It takes a lot of calories and as much protein synthesis as you can get to keep big muscle mass. Bill brought the abcde diet or whatever it's called to the US. That is where you find your maintenence calorie intake for the day. You then go 2weeks of 500 calorie surplus and the 2 weeks of a calorie defect. Why? The 2 weeks of oveteatibg(while training) raises all the body's muscle building hormones. After the 2 week mark it stops and you start putting on more fat than muscle. During the deficit you lose more fat than muscle. It's like 2 steps forward and 1 back. These calories are consumed in 6 meals throughout the day. A lot of guys said it does not work. A lot of guys say it does. Everyone is different. It worked for me very well over the course of 2 months than not so much after that. There are variations of this diet with the most popular being 5 on and 5 days off. I found I lost too much weight that way.
I tried doing that exact diet back in the day. Never really looked the way I wanted to. Now, in my fifties, I eat as described in this video and I look leaner now than in my twenties.
@@richbunnell7426 I applaud you. I am also in my 50s and am now stronger and carry more muscle than ever in my life. I have taken up bodybuilding, a great hobby for me. It's far harder to put on lean muscle over 50 than just lean out. We lose so much testosterone per year and comparing our t levels to a 20 year old is comical. Keep up the good fight brother.
Same with me …Only wish I knew about it when I was younger. I’m 73 now but maintaining a really good weight. It’s so easy with keto and intermittent fasting I absolutely love it.
Im atheletic, people eat too much, i used to eat 3 meals a day like the bloody standard, now i eat 1 to 2 and thats it, never felt better or looked better, its amazing to know how little food the body actually needs
I’ve water fasted on different occasions for 7 days, 14 days and 32 days Gods blessing. The health benefits by far out weighed the negative effects... I also have more fuel “stored” so it was easier for me. I’m going to get ready for a 40 day fast Lord willing!

Intermittent fasting and keto flex help manage chronic pain like nothing else! Thank you Mark Sisson, your books and original supplements helped turn my healing around, from way back. Love your wisdom and your world 🌠
I dropped 30 pounds with a program of fasting. I dove in for a 24 hour fast once a week, and incorporated a 7 mile fat burning hole halfway into each of those fasting periods. I stopped eating after 9pm, then transitioned into a 2MAD with (hopefully) 12 hour IF between meals. I played with extending those 24 hour fasts until I was able to fast 48 hours once a month, later one a quarter. Now I periodically fast for 36 hours at a time, all of those taking the place of one of my 24 hour fasts. The only real conscientious change I made to my diet was removing soda and eating far less cookies, cake and ice cream as desserts.
Intermittent fasting helped me lose 80 lbs on 6 mos, enabling me to qualify for total hip replacement surgeries that have given me back my life..at least 10 yrs worth. Age 63.
I’m 46 and only 16 lbs overweight but 9 days into if, I’ve lost 8 pounds already and was told that I would need hip replacement on my late 40’s but I feel good and it doesn’t hurt as much, wondering if you think I should get it done now doctor?. 🤭
@@galaxiax3284 I wouldnt get any joint replacement until it was absolutely necessary in order for me to function normally. I was told my knees were bone on bone 20 years ago and they are still ok as long as I dont abuse them. My hips however didnt make it.
I’m a Muslim and we fast during Ramadan for a month and people be asking why would I do that to myself. I’ve never been able to explain to them how for some unexplainable reason I feel my body is benefiting from fasting. @@jerrypopperq That's the problem with people who don't get it. It's not about eating all nifht and sleeping during the day. You don't have to eat much at suhur (dawn meal). Besides, if you plan it right you should be up for fajr at that time anyway. Eat some fruit or oatmeal and water, do your fajr then you can always take a nap afterwards if you're still tired. It's tough if you're working 8 to 5 job, but do we really need 8 hour sleep. I'm sure you know this, I'm talking about people in general.
I been on a 20-4 (20 hour no eating, 4 hour eating windows) daily fast diet. And can attest there are no hunger pangs, lost 43 pounds in 4 weeks eat till im full, no calorie counting or food type restrictions. I have a constant natural source of energy. I love how I feel. Do your research and set yourself free from over eating and being overweight.
I intermittent fasted for about 3 months ish. I got great results. I just ate normally, except for Friday. Friday, I would eat b fast and lunch, then wait 24 hours and eat again Saturday at lunch. I went from 260 lbs down to 200-210. I believe there is a reset for real. I eat normal, no fasting anymore and eat whatever I want. I'm still between 200-210 lbs. I stopped fasting around 6 months ago. It's like I have a super boosted metabolism. It's all about insulin resistance.
@@Higher_human1 I agree! Seems a lot! ☠️ I went full carnivore just over 3 months ago and only lost 25lbs ish, but then again I was only around 190 to begin with. Everything is relative.. But dang, losing 60 lbs by skipping two meals a week for a few hours is far to good to be true!! Specially if the meals the rest of the week stayed the same. Now if the rest of the diet changed as well, even just slightly, it then becomes totally credible. Either way, if true, FANTASTIC RESULTS!
Whatever you eat doesn't matter as soon as you have used your glycogen reserves you will burn fat if you are keto it will be harder to replace them so you will burn more fat if exercising a lot you will use the glycogen so can get away with eating more carbs at the end of the day fasting will be the quickest way one meal under a thousand calories a day (evening) for 3 weeks is a very fast way to lose weight and still have the energy for working etc it doesn't matter what that thousand calories is just drink plenty of water through the day.
@@Higher_human1 I'm on keto & IF honestly it works. I stopped smoking put on a few lbs. So wasnt looking for a diet, I wanted a lifestyle choice. It takes a while to understand but once youve done your research it makes sense,it did to me! & I've lost weight, maintained weight, feel better my moods are lifted, my mind is better. I fell off for a month & realised how much carbs make you think your hungry! I really can't understand why more people don't eat like it? Theres so many health benefits.

Fasting is super dope. Autophagy is amazing; I have a rotator cuff injury and decided to do a mammoth 14-day water fast to heal it (well, not so long compared to some people). I'm currently on day 11 and my arm feels like 75% better. Insane
Prolonged fasting is a corrective strategy for the modern lifestyle. When used properly, it is a potent tool for achieving mental clarity, longevity, metabolic recovery, & internal health.
I get so much work done during a long fast. Constantly in The Zone. Especially in data anlytics or something. Wouldnt want to do heavy shit on a construction side tho.
Finally, after Joe asking him 3 times how many hours we should intermittent fast, he answers 18 hours at 14:30 minutes of the interview. Thanks for being persistent Joe.
18 hours is minimum but I would suggest 20 hour fasting instead. That gives you 4 hours in the morning to eat your whole days worth of calories in 1 meal for breakfast then fast the rest of the day completely
@@GrowingDownUnder ya, 18 hours can be done if you're eating 2 meals per day, which is what me and most would do. IMO food and the social part of eating with your loved ones is more important than eating 1 meal per day only thinking about your health
This guy is 100% correct. I've been practicing metabolic flexibility for 5 years and there isn't a day that I train in a carbed up state. I can train in the 19th hour of a 20 or 22 hour fast and have more than enough Energy / Fuel ⛽️ to rip through my workout. The key here is to make sure you stay well Hydrated.
Agreed. Water and electrolytes are a must if working out hard and fasting. Also, the lack of glycogen increases adrenalin which powers the workout even more. Only downside, if your body is new to ketosis max power and explosive exercises will be affected. Running at a steady pace becomes much easier, though.
Intermittent fasting and Keto is the best lifestyle. I just finished a 48hr fast because I love when my body goes through atophagy. I switch from OMAD to 2 meals a day depending on my hunger. I feel better now than I ever did when I was younger- and I'm 42.
I'm so tired of people asking me how I lost weight and kept it off - I tell them about IF and also OMAD and they just say "Oh - I could never do that." and then to back to complaining about their weight and how crappy their current fad diet is. Okay.... Female - went from 190lbs to 130lbs in 10 months and have kept it off for over 2 years. I usually do OMAD 5 days a week and eat regurlarly on vacations and weekends. It changed my metabolism. I literally cannot gain weight. I can still lose but maintaining is effortless.
Your metabolism is exactly the same. It never changed. What changed is that you switched to eating in a smaller time window in which you can't stuff yourself as much. One meal a day? Proves the point I made about IF even harder. You likely can't ingest as much at one sitting as you could at 3, 4 or 5 during the whole day. Is that so hard to comprehend? Any calorie deficit producing diet, like the one you mentioned, will give you the exact same result. It's the laws of physics. You are burning more than you are ingesting, thus you are using some of your bodies reserves. Cannot get any simpler
I am sooooo with you!!! I remember me posting an article about the dangers of sugar and someone commented "Oh, I can't go without my sweets!" I thought "And that's you're obese" and was also thinking "If you want something bad enough, you CAN go without the bad stuff". Everything with high value comes at a sacrifice of some sort.
Your metabolism is NOT exactly the same . At 15.5 hours a metabolic change happens, insulin is switched off. That's why a 16 hour fast is the minimum . Autophagy proved this scientifically 2016. Fasting can cure type 2 diabetes because of this very action.
This is the type of JREs that got me hooked. We need much more of these and that they never stop posting on youtube because there's no JRE without the comments
Mark mentioned that anyone who does a 3-5 day fast usually isn't exercising... I've done several 3 day fasts and ALWAYS continued my intense training and cardio.. even my endurance training... also he said that any time that you fast sooner than 14 hours isn't as beneficial... it actually depends on your body type... and it REALLY comes down to knowing your own body... I've been doing a 12-hour intermittent fasting for few weeks now... and I do intense and/or high volume Martial Arts training.. including extensive cardio... and I feel GREAT... and by now I am aware that I'm using fat as energy use... once again.. know your own body.. and find your own way😁... GREAT insight though😁
Intermittent fasting and keto is the way I swear it, I weighed 17 stone before I educated myself on it, 8 months later I weigh 12.5 stone or like 81 kgs , skins toning up, looking cut again. Can't recommend it enough , totally changed my life for the better in every aspect, I go running at midnight now I have so much energy
"Mark Sisson is an American fitness author, food blogger, and a former distance runner, triathlete and Ironman competitor", you can just say you heard it from him and it sounds good lmao
Multi day fasting is the greatest thing I've ever discovered for my health... My last multiday fast was 5 days and for the 1st TIME IN MY LIFE and I'm 50 years old I could bend over straight legged and touched the floor with my palms... 1st time ever in my life.
Not eating crap helped me lose 50 pounds 30 years ago. Its not about calories in, calories out. It's how nutritious the food is. Those bagels, chips, french fries, power bars, and sugar add up real quick - great way to build a disease.
well, yes, but you literally had to eat less/burn more calories to lose weight, so since those foods are BOTh unhealthy and calorie dense, it is easy for those to contribute to excess weight/fat. So it IS calories in/out, but that doesn't have anything to do with the quality of foods^ Congrats tho!
calories in/out do matter. its right there on your post. Bagels, chips fries, are calorie dense. replacing them with more nutritious less calorie dense food is what led to weight loss.
Every Ramadan when I fast I lose weight, albeit I gain it back once I am done with the 30 days but now with this information I think I figured out how to make it work for me long term. Thank you
I used to take four medications. Had autoimmune symptoms, constantly sick and exhausted. I am off all meds now and went from paleo to keto recently. The weight is falling off. I can focus, my quality of life has drastically improved. So grateful!!!!
I can attest to this. I have been intermittent fasting for 3 years. I never eat before Noon, or after 8pm. Lost 80lbs, put on muscle, blood pressure down, bad cholesterol down, digestion dramatically improved, and had my libido double. This without lifting weights at all.
@Snap Dragon Mark Sisson is saying that although you can do intermittent fasting and longer fasts without being on a ketogenic diet, it is much easier on a keto diet because in ketosis the brain is receiving most of its energy from ketones. Therefore, in ketosis you rarely get hungry or lightheaded like you would if you were fasting while eating normally or just restricting calories on a traditional diet. That hunger and dizziness comes from blood sugar being really low. The brain requires around 400 calories a day. In keto, it gets roughly 320 of those calories (80%) from ketones made by the liver from your own body fat. Also in keto, the body can take glycerol and small amounts of amino acids to get the other 80 calories (20%). By contrast, if a person isn't in ketosis, the necessary enzymes aren't activated to feed the brain this way. It takes roughly 5 days of restricting carbohydrates to 20 grams a day or less in order to ramp up ketones and roughly 2 weeks to fully activate all the fat-burning enzymes. Once you do, you're feeding yourself with your own body fat nearly all the time because blood sugar/insulin are low and largely irrelevant, fat and ketones are constantly being mobilized and oxidized for fuel, and you're rarely hungry because the brain/body never has to deal with the normal consequences of low blood sugar from not eating enough carbohydrates. This all leads to a euphoric feeling most of the time and especially when fasting for 24 hours or more. It's mainly because the ketones provide a steady source of energy all the time whether you have access to food or not. Once a person gets past the first week or so of transitioning into keto, it's smooth sailing.
@Snap Dragon Congratulations! I know someone who had fasted blood sugar readings of 299, 280, and 265 (considered severe, irreversible Type 2 diabetes), and in one month of keto his fasted blood sugar was 109. It's probably in the 80s or 90s by now. If you want a great resource, search UA-cam for Dr. Eric Westman, MD, who is a professor of medicine at Duke University Medical School. He's easily one of the most well-known medical doctors in the field of obesity, diabetes, and ketosis. He cuts through all the nonsense and gives you the straight story on keto. You can look up his so-called "Page 4" of foods you can eat on keto (including how much in some cases). It's makes everything so easy. He doesn't advocate for fasting but he's not necessarily against it either. He just says he's trying to make keto as simple as possible so people can start getting the benefits with little effort.
@@DutchCommando. Yes. Complex carbs from natural sources. Simple carbs, should be avoided. Even when eating complex carbs, I would match with foods lower on the glycemic scale like vegetables or meat.
If someone truly does IF correctly. Then they are I'm Ketosis while fasting. Body acts the same as keto diet. Less restrictive but need to fast minimum of 16 hours.
I never had a weight problem. I fast to clean up the organs and to help my muscle development. I obtained my goal of ripping up more , a stronger core, leaner muscle , flat belly even after a couple of beers. 💪🏽
People are losing fat because they are eating lesser calories because of fasting. Try eating above your maintenance on fast and see how that works out.
I was 125kg and got down to 77kg. I'm 6 foot tall. I cut out all sweets and chocolates and was having protein shakes, once or twice a day. I still ate everything else I normally had. Even McDonald's once a week. I just cut all my portions in half and only ate when by stomach started rumbling. And even then, when I first started, I'd only eat a few mouthfuls to shut my stomach up. And it wasn't just a diet. I spent 9 years studying martial arts. 3 doing karate then the rest doing Muay Thai. With a year gap between the 2. Karate wasn't very intense and seemed to just get me into a fat burning mode, I only lost a little weight but gained stamina. And when I started Muay Thai. I went from class twice a week to 3 times a week and a fight night when we just sparred for 2 hours. Then the weight just melted off. I hadn't been below 100kgs since I was 16 and then I was 77kgs of muscle and sinew at 27. I started karate when I was 21. And after that the only thing left was to pack on more muscle. Only I had a stroke caused by a blood clot and it pretty much all went out the window. Healthy again and trying to get my figure back lol
ive been fasting for years , initially to fight off arthritis which miraculously it did and even tho id never heard the term metabolic flexibility before, somehow i knew exactly what it meant. Im a different person since i started fasting , i often dont eat til after 6pm even tho i work as a builder and i actually seem to have more energy than when i eat , so i just assumed i must be drawing energy from the multiple storage facilities within my body- and now somebody has come up with a beautiful term for the condition.

I work out a lot and play soccer so I do the 16-19 hr fast. 2 meals a day. Eat at noon and dinner is around 7pm. If it’s my rest day I eat dinner earlier in the day.
That’s what I do man. I always try to eat by 6:00pm two meals, never hungry, at least not a uncomfortable hunger at all. It’s my Lifestyle so I’m not in a hurry to get my body somewhere in a hurry. 30,60,90 day diets are made to expire…this is no good.
Nice one man, I'm the same. Football 4-5 days a week, fruit breakfast either yoghurt followed by pasta lunch, football at 6 or 7pm followed by a rich meat and vegetable and small amount of rice meal at 8:30/9pm. Weight has totally dropped off me !
Joe should know all this. I have watched so many podcasts over the years that had all this information. And I used it. But Mark hit the nail on the head with metabolic flexibility. I was never fat but was about 30 to 40 lbs lbs over weight, had acid reflux that was destroying my esophagus. Was prediabetic with high blood pressure. My blood labs did not look very good and I was 66 at the time. Both sides of my family were diabetic with grandmother losing both legs to it. I was headed in the same direction as them. Decided to do something about it. So I started strict keto with intermittent fasting. No food for 16 hours a day. Did it for 2 years. After that time I lost 35 lbs, 6 in off my Waist, acid reflux went away in 2 weeks, my bold pressure went from 155/95 to 90/60 last visit to the doctor. No longer prediabetic and my blood labs are all normal. I’m at the weight and waist I was in my 20s. I’m doing very low carb now with min of 12-16 hours of fasting for the last 2 years. I have not lost or gained a pound in 2 years but I have put on more muscle. Not a lot but I don’t exercise other then household chores and working in my yard. My diet is mostly protein, fat then carbs in that order instead of the other way around. I test my blood and keytones a few times a week. My keytones are low but they are there. My body now recognizes both fat and carbs as fuel. I have become metabolically Flexible again.

U never new how ahead of time my parents were about fasting... its called being poor none of us were overweight... thanks mom and dad for being so smart back in the days
I've done Keto for a long time. And I agree, It's no way to live your life :P Plus it's horrible when training high intensity in a warmer climate. I'm running 16/8 now, with three 48 hour fasts a month. Feels good.
I’ve been fasting 6-7 days per week, with ~16 hours between meals. I’ll sometimes have a little snack, like a cheese stick or energy bar during the day, but I’ll often go all day drinking only water & maybe a cup of coffee. I do the 99% protein diet and eat a shit ton of protein before I’m about to go to bed (& vitamins). I’m able to sleep very easy, my concentration is better than ever, & my energy levels are at their highest. Humans aren’t meant to eat 3 meals a day… Whenever I stop fasting (or eat carbs) I feel like absolute shit. Never felt better & I highly recommend everyone tries it out! Don’t have to go all protein, but eating less will make you feel so much better!!!
#MetabolicFlexibility is such a powerful tool. #MarkSisson….I love this guy. Great role-model in terms of aging well. 20 years ago, at age 28, I did a few print modeling photoshoots and staying in the 6-9% body-fat range required 5-6 days of cardio as I was eating a carb centric diet. Fast forward to 2023 and at age 48 I can stay at 8-9% with no cardio thanks to Keto & Intermittent Fasting and the subsequent #metabolicflexibility. *Disclaimer* I engage in 2-3 sessions per week of HIIT/SIT consisting of sprints, speed jump rope of 15-20 second intervals jumping as fast as I can and/or plyometrics each week. However, whenever I go 2-3 weeks with no HIIT/SIT my weight does NOT increase as metabolic flexibility allows me to tap into bodyfat for energy thereby keeping me lean.
I haven’t even watched the video but I seen fasting , I eat once a day . In three months I lost 30 pounds . I feel fantastic . I train two/3 hours a day . I stay aways from bread and pasta , I just feel so much better.I did an 18 and 6 for a long time until I worked my way up to 24. It’s not hard anymore . It just takes adjusting .

Depending how I fell no less than two hours typically . I don’t get fatigued or anything . I’ll drink caffeine in the morning no sugar or any carbs in it , and when you do eat your stomach is so small that a little food fills you up . I ate two pizza of pizza for a cheat meal and felt like I couldn’t eat anymore . That’s with all cheat meals if I do have one .
In the last year I’ve been practising types of fasting. Sometimes fasting for 16 hours at a time. However, I think it led to a low RBC which seemed to correct itself with iron supplements. I eat healthily and train well. But my sleep can suck which I’m sure is another contributing factor. Thanks for the video. ❤️
Interesting l! Low RBC can be attributed to a million other things though and I definitely wouldn’t put my blame on the fasting.. Either way, fasting for 16 hours barely barely puts you into a state of ketosis (if at all), and really the good things for many people only ever starts after 18 hrs or more, depending if you regularly consume carbs/glucose or not.. I personally like intermittent fasting of a full 24hrs, been doing those for over a year, but am now working my way up to a multi day fast for greater health benefits. The benefits are incredible
@@meals24u that a very long fast you’re doing. Wild. And yes mine is just a short fast so I can’t say if the fasting did it. Do you play sport, workout etc? Have you noticed any benefits or negatives? Lose of body fat and muscle atrophy. Thanks bro ✌️
@@PL-tu7jg I used to play sports, do gym and be super active. But I’ve been basically bed ridden now for a year and half due to Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, and fasting has been a key to keeping my sanity and mental health, etc. The benefits are out there, in my case, I lost a ton of weight, feel much better, battling what’s going on.. Also, I switched to an animal based diet, carnivore, so fasting has been a lot easier as well, because your body is constantly in a state of ketosis, with (almost) zero carbs and zero sugar. So yeah, I love fasting, one to three days, water only! Lots and lots of water! 💪
@@meals24u sorry to hear your not well bro. I hope you get better soon. That’s a great insight to what proper fasting is like. I’m so glad for you that it’s massively helped you in many ways. Keep up the great work. 👍
Honestly from all the anti-fasting medical disinformation I had worked into my brain over the years I always convinced myself that the symptoms of my anxiety were because I had 'low blood sugar' so anytime I started to feel a little off I'd go "Oh shit I need to eat something!" I have since done a 48 hour fast with no ill effects so I know that I can completely run through my carb stores and my body will still run just fine.
I understand Keto and fasting but I think the biggest problem is people confuse not being full with being hungry. Before all these gurus came out I would often go for a day or two without eating due to work/time pressure. Done this for 30 years, only time I put on weight = beer and or eating more than once a day. I have a personal theory - eat once, shit once and give your system time to to process plus you stop wasting time and money in between. I celebrate and ritualise my one meal a day, fresh, good and well prepared. I could not do that 3 times a day. Love feeling hungry, it makes me work better, concentrate and I have more energy. Don't know what the explanation is but given the choice at any time of day I would rather celebrate my hunger than eat shit food. Weird.
@Will.J dry fasting(no water) kills fat cells, regular fasting just depletes them. and keto is a lifestyle not a temporary diet. I’ve been doing carnivore for 2 years now and don’t plan on stopping.
I did a water fast for 2 weeks. The pounds just flew off. I lost 60 lbs in two months. I was 270 lbs 4 years ago at 6ft tall. I hover between 215lbs and 225lbs. No I live a mostly 16/8 fasting lifestyle and I eat what I want on the weekends. I am making my push to get my weight between 190 and 200lbs.
@@JamesQHolden 2 to 3 liters a day but I wasn't really keeping track. I drank water whenever I was thirsty and to full my stomach into thinking it was full. At the time I wasn't doing a stationary job but it wasn't to physical either. If that helps. I started watching Dr. Berg and even bought a book on fasting.
I believe In this because I was fat for most of my childhood, I’m 6’2” was 230lbs as a teenager. I crash dieted ate nothing but chicken and brown rice and oatmeal down to 165lbs. Basically lost all my fat. Then I gained lean muscle up to 200lbs without gaining much fat. I had to eat like an animal to gain weight. I would gain maybe only a couple pounds a month. Just these past couple years I let myself go entirely due to depression and I’ve hit 265lbs. Binge eating, restaurants, takeout etc… when I was In shape and training like a weightlifter in the gym could eat literally anything and Hardly gain a pound. Then once I got sedentary for only a year, and continued eating bad food… I gained a ton of weight. Now I’m at a point where I’m always hungry, always tired, and no matter what I do, if I lose 10 lbs I put it back on so easily from only a week of letting go. It’s like I got my metabolism to such a healthy awesome place where I could be fit with minimal effort. And now my body will only change with max effort. I feel like I have to crash diet again to get back to where I was. I can’t lift weights like I used to. My joints hurt. I always injure myself because I try to progress too quickly cause I’m just not the same as I used to be. Never let yourself go. It’s easy to maintain a body but to get one back it is so hard. The first time I got fit was so much easier than this time because I was young. Now I just feel trapped in this cycle. I don’t know how I even had it in me to do it. I have to try keto because that’s what my body responds the best to. Lack of carbs. That’s when I lose the most weight if I just cut out carbs entirely. It really is the best diet for me. Under 30 carbs a day works so well for me. I don’t even need full Keto. Under 30 has always worked for me. There’s no science behind it, I didn’t read anything on it. I don’t even know where I came up with the number. But under 30 works great for me. If I can maintain it and not miss a day (that’s the hard part)
I am 47, 173cm tall with an athletic body type. Used to compete in fitness in my 20's. So after getting more comfortable, fewer sports, more movies, and snacks as well as a Pandemic, I found myself from 75 kg to 90 kgs. I felt awful, got tired easily, and was hungry all the time. A month ago I started intermittent fasting 16/8, and Keto. I thought it will be tough to follow but it became a lot easier than expected. In a month I am 8-9kg down and started the light workout. Looking thinner, I feel fit and no longer get the cravings for food. Now I am at 81kg and the goal is to hit the 75kg I used to carry, muscled up in a healthy way. I am switching to 18/6 fasting from Monday and am curious how this will work.

I’d be interested to see something a little bit more on intermittent drinking of red wine and beer for example
This is my experience from lots of fasting over the years. Pllanning a fasting regimen, stop all carbs, and sugars for 36 to 48 hours before getting into the fast. This clearing of carbs and sugars before fasting quickly puts you into a stable fasting state. You wake on your planned fasting day well into fat metabolism, and you're much more comfortable.
I've been intermittent fasting for 5 weeks now and I have noticed that I don't feel hungry until I start eating and also have lost eight pounds it works.
I only eat between 11am and 6pm, and try not to drink anything between 6pm and sleep. I also gave up most sugars and don't eat bread often. I went from 215 to 160 since October. I love it, and don't miss eating myself to death. I am 50 and quit cigarettes 7 years ago and don't drink alcohol or sugar. Joe Rogan you inspired me a little, thanks bud.
For me the best thing about fasting was the mental clarity, before IF i never felt like that, even people around me say i became more conected and fun, my mental fog was gone.
I'm 5ft9 and I weighed 225 about a year or two ago and I stopped packing lunches, only water and after a few weeks I didn't feel the hunger during the day like I usually do. I'm down to 180 and I eat anything I want when I'm off the clock. Maybe its just me but I feel great and I've got all the energy I need to do my job. I'm a framer so maybe its the physicality of my job but thats my 2 cents
I'm on my 5th week of only eating once a day, every week day. I eat breakfast and/or lunch on weekends. Along with this, I run more than 40 kilometers each week. I'm in my 40s and have never felt like I've had such consistent energy.
That’s great guys and if you want to really fat burn, try walking easier on the body too. Mix on 1 or 2 hard sprints for like 30 secs full speed. I was a runner for years.
@@bicgohill8756 Walking might burn as many calories as running, when distance is equal, but I've never heard anyone claim it burns more. It's definitely more sustainable as you get older, though.
@@rationalthought9979 the reason why walking burns fat better then running, is because with walking you do not trigger the stress hormone Cortisol. Check out Dr ekberg on UA-cam.

I like to think Joe already knows this type of information already but is just a good listener and gives the questions for the guest to explain topics with enthusiasm and interest. Great info no matter 👌
I think if he knew this stuff already he wouldn't have said you would die in a week if you didn't eat anything. But I do agree with you on a lot of subjects he will do his research and then allow his guest to shine.
Joe has been interviewing people for so long. I dont think Joe was the greatest for a while when he started. I think he's learned from his mistakes. He is such a great interviewer now, he asks the right questions, doesn't interrupt or change the topic as much, most importantly doesnt get mad when someone disagrees with him.

200g of just chicken in one sitting? Hoe do you fit all that in your stomach?😂

What do you even eat on keto
He was a hack
I tried doing that exact diet back in the day. Never really looked the way I wanted to. Now, in my fifties, I eat as described in this video and I look leaner now than in my twenties.
@@richbunnell7426 I applaud you. I am also in my 50s and am now stronger and carry more muscle than ever in my life. I have taken up bodybuilding, a great hobby for me. I played with extending those 24 hour fasts until I was able to fast 48 hours once a month, later one a quarter. The only real conscientious change I made to my diet was removing soda and eating far less cookies, cake and ice cream as desserts.

This has been my life intermitted fasting since 2016. Start at 12 and 12, now I'm 4-6 hours I love it.
Fasting is super dope. Autophagy is amazing; I have a rotator cuff injury and decided to do a mammoth 14-day water fast to heal it (well, not so long compared to some people). I'm currently on day 11 and my arm feels like 75% better. Insane
Amazing how respectful and wisely you have been talking about stored belly and hips fat, thank you
Prolonged fasting is a corrective strategy for the modern lifestyle. When used properly, it is a potent tool for achieving mental clarity, longevity, metabolic recovery, & internal health.
I get so much work done during a long fast. Constantly in The Zone. Especially in data anlytics or something. Wouldnt want to do heavy shit on a construction side tho.
Thanks Siri

Look up snake diet. He's the king of fasting
@@mymotosai5036 Indeed, a lot of people don't appreciate the social side of eating or its importance.
@@mymotosai5036 but you don't need to eat to be social.
@@monslay5624 It's amazing what even a 24 hour fast for you can do. I did it and I forgot about smoking cigarettes for a couple weeks.
@@dimitrijekrstic7567 there are hormonal benefits to fasting that aren't in regular dieting

@FIGHFANNERD 9 That was a comprehensive answer.
Did you eat carbs?
@@DutchCommando. Yes. Complex carbs from natural sources. Simple carbs, should be avoided. Even when eating complex carbs, I would match with foods lower on the glycemic scale like vegetables or meat.
If someone truly does IF correctly. Then they are I'm Ketosis while fasting. Body acts the same as keto diet. Less restrictive but need to fast minimum of 16 hours.

Nice.

Good clarification / refresher

Also, I switched to an animal based diet, carnivore, so fasting has been a lot easier as well, because your body is constantly in a state of ketosis, with (almost) zero carbs and zero sugar.

Weird.
I started with a 3.5 day fast and then IF/Keto and went from 260 to 180 in no time at all.
How long would you estimate it took you?
@Will.J dry fasting(no water) kills fat cells, regular fasting just depletes them. and keto is a lifestyle not a temporary diet. I’ve been doing carnivore for 2 years now and don’t plan on stopping.
I did a water fast for 2 weeks. The pounds just flew off. I lost 60 lbs in two months. I was 270 lbs 4 years ago at 6ft tall. I hover between 215lbs and 225lbs.
You can do it mate!!!

My wife does intermittent fasting (16 hrs) for 2+ years now lost 30lbs is no longer pre-diabetic, looks great, feels great. I am going to do the same as soon as I stop teaching in June!!
Did you start IF David?
What a great show! This guest really impressed me, and Joe I have not heard about you for long but I must say I’m more and more impressed about quality of questions you ask, just fantastic thank you so much for a great package of information. I’d be interested to see something a little bit more on intermittent drinking of red wine and beer for example
Intermittent drinking? That's a new one. So only drinking alcohol a few hours a day?
This is my experience from lots of fasting over the years. Pllanning a fasting regimen, stop all carbs, and sugars for 36 to 48 hours before getting into the fast. This clearing of carbs and sugars before fasting quickly puts you into a stable fasting state. You wake on your planned fasting day well into fat metabolism, and you're much more comfortable.
Cut even honey??
Amazing interview!! 👍
I've been intermittent fasting for 5 weeks now and I have noticed that I don't feel hungry until I start eating and also have lost eight pounds it works.
Literally needed this - thanks Bro Joegan, brilliant stuff!
Joegan does the things

Bro Joegan and Edgie Brah!
Same!!
Me too. My main meal is brunch which is when I feel hungry.
Your one or two meals, are they low carb or normal?
I'm not sure if I understand correctly; can you build up metabolic flexibility by intermittent fasting even if your one or two meals are normal or high carb??
Live long, drop dead is how we live, which is a flexible way of life. Intermittent fasting and Keto control my chronic pain like nothin else. Keto/ Flex 💪 is the reasonable way for me. Huge fan of Mark Sisson from the origin. Thank you Mark!
I was a vegetarian for too long, eating healthy but my blood was congealed from undigested protein. Eating pasteur raised meats now, lots of fats and 16 hour fast everyday for the next while. I am feeling so much better each day!
I like to think Joe already knows this type of information already but is just a good listener and gives the questions for the guest to explain topics with enthusiasm and interest. Great info no matter 👌
Joe learned a ton from Mark Sisson a few years ago.
I’ve been living my life one diet at a time for a while now. I’ve always felt like my purpose in life is to find new, interesting ways to consume my nations surplus of food until it all runs out.
OMAD and keto have tremendously helped me! You can do it to anyone who is skeptical or struggling with it
Joe, bro you need to open a comment section on Spotify. I’m tired of coming to UA-cam sections to see the opinions.
Spotify sucks. Better to just boycott out until they release his show from contract lol
