I lost 65lbs in four months just by reducing carbs to only breakfast. Healthy ones at that, oatmeal, whole grains, fruits. Meat and veggies only for lunch and dinner. Lots if water. Excersize 5 days a week. Nothing crazy. No gym memberships. Pushups and running. Stuff you can do at home. Been life changing.
so you just started doing sport and move your ass. ofcourse you will lose fat. reducing carbs helps in this but you changed your lifestyle. thats the main factor
@@johnmachter40 sugar is the biggest thing that makes you gain weight. Too many carbs turn to sugar however you should utilize carbs if you're training 5 days a week. Fasting while working out and doing breathing exercises feels amazing
I had a major cerebellar stroke in 2013. Brain surgery, the whole 9 yards. After all this brain trauma, neuro fatigue is a major problem. I can't exercise 'cos I can't walk that far. I wanted to reduce the inflammation in my body so started keto in January 2020. To date (June 2021), my fatigue is way better, my energy levels are much higher, my skin is better. Plus, I happen to have lost 30kgs. I'm the lightest I've been since I was in my 20s. I'm now 63.
I’m 6’2 and in good shape with a 32 inch waist I’m 220. I got all the way up to 312 pounds despite working out 5 days a week and not eating what I thought was a decent diet. I couldn’t lose weight like I could in the past so in my efforts to figure out why I stumbled onto Dr Berg. I went hard full keto with a 21/3 fasting to eating schedule. In 5 months I lost over 100 pounds, after the first 30 days the weight melted off. Apparently I was pre diabetic with insulin resistance. Literally all of my health problems went away, my heart palpitations my swollen joints and joint pain, I slept better had more energy than I knew what to do with as well as a huge increase to my libido. Keto is legit and I feel that sugar is a poison and people eat far far too much.
Dr Berg is an awesome resource. His videos help motivate me.... but the fifty pounds I’ve lost and increased health benefits are for real. Sugar is like a hard addictive drug. It’s hard to get away from with out a little discipline.
16/8 fasting has helped me go from 434 lbs to 371lbs since august 1st. its working for me and i know its a life style that i will continue for life.. under 300 by the 4th of july is the goal.
utewbing, the problem with that is exercise greatly increases appetite and is not the answer for people struggling with cravings, weight loss etc. @Carlos T, you keep doing what you’re doing man! Start to push towards 18/6 and then 20/4 or one meal a day and only think about adding exercise when you have absolutely killed your addiction to carbs or you’re approaching your ideal weight 💪🏼
I've begun to go for walk/runs with my dog and also incline walks on my treadmill. I just did a 30 hour fast yesterday and dinner is usually chicken breast or some other protein. Thanks for the motivation guys

It has taken me 4 years to find this podcast and to see that I came to the same conclusion all by myself. Always tired after lunch, aching joints ect. My body told me to stop various carb intakes and I feel so much better. No bread, no sugar, no pasta. Refined carbs, grain based foods. Quite remarkable...
I went on keto lost 2 and half stone, Got better focus (massively decreases ADHD symptoms) And cured back pain Fatty liver And IBS entirely gone which I was on medication. Keto diet is ace ,
I recently stopped eating carbs like bread and pasta - and I'm a pasta maniac so I was really eating lot of that stuff. I'm 2 weeks in and already I'm feeling a lot better and my damn belly isn't so bloated. Still big - but I'm seeing progress. Also I'm not so tired and sleepy all the time.
I weigh 185lbs @ 6ft, and that is gym weight. 6 days a week 2 1/2 hrs in the gym. I eat what I want. Your way of living sounds pretty damn Boring/Bland.
As soon as I focused on cutting out processed foods and sugar my health changed dramatically and fast. I eat as much natural foods as I possibly can! I now even enjoy growing a lot of vegetables.
most processed foods have ingredients that help sustain shelf life, that is where the problem comes in. Thats why natural foods will age quickly vs food that was processed. Look at the ingredients then anything else..
I'm happy for you. What are some foods that you regularly eat on keto? I'm trying to create a list of foods that I could just stick to. Preferably foods that already have a lot of fat in them.
@@munen343 Bacon and eggs are going to be your best friends. A ton of fatty meat, salmon, chicken (not a lot tho, you don't want to eat too much protein), and a TON of green, non starchy veggies. Broccoli, cauliflower, zuchinni, spinach and avocado are good keto-friendly veggies. Remember to always track your macros tho, that's the most important part.
Pleaseeeeeee eat poly and mono UNsaturated fats. Eating keto with lots of saturated fats WILL cause fat deposits within your arteries and cause heart attacks or strokes
It's the habit you need nor the substance. Find an innocuous substance. I used to be addicted to marguerite as. Well I guess technically they're called palomas A paloma is squirt to killa lime juice and salt. But they don't make diet squirt anymore and I didn't want to drink anymore. So now I mix fresca which is sugar free lime juice and salt no tequila no sugar. I have one every night when I get home it's awesome. I also have a bone broth with it. That is my nightly ritual I don't miss the sugar I don't miss the booze because I've got this I've got another substance that's virtually calorie free.
I’m not condoning nor supporting the use of weed, but after a long day of work, and working out, smoking always loosens me up. Wether it be giving me tolerance for pain sensation, sleep, testosterone. Hell , i think it helped me with appetite, there’s so many shady substances out there that’s just a fat sloppy mess, substances that can put your entire way of life to shit, but weed is helpful in it’s own merit. Not saying it’s beneficial, some drugs aren’t for everyone.

Went from 290 to 180 in about 13 months, by not eating sugars and carbs anymore, also almost cured my psoriasis! Sure beats what the dermatologist suggested.
When I cut my carbs out my psoriasis is so much better, but when I compete for wrestling I try to eat a few carbs to keep my energy levels up for all of my training, eat a few carbs for my first meal out of fast and it helps a ton with my energy through my workouts
I mean, I've done my research, and done my sport at both attempts, and adding like 20 carbs a day (if I have practice that day) allows me to maintain ketosis and I don't die when I do hard drilling practices or live practices
Keto is an amazing diet. I just don’t wanna eat like I used to, you get full so fast and have more energy. I used to LOOoOOooVE food, couldn’t stop snacking and ate like man portions but now I eat like a normal person. Keto rules.

As soon as I started keto, even before I lost much weight, I noticed that I didn't need the afternoon naps and the overall feeling of well-being is simply amazing.
Best thing to do is finding the best meal plan for the day and repeating it over and over to start. Find something that gives what you need nutritionally and energy wise and eat that every day. So start with finding a good breakfast, lunch, and dinner that satisfies your cravings, gives you your necessary nutrients (which you can also find pills and supplements for). Track if it's giving you the recommended amount of minerals such as iron, potassium, calcium, etc and eat that everyday. Then add another meal plan after you get sick of that. And now you have two days worth of meals you can prepare and alternate every other day. Slowly add more and more until you finally have a whole week planned out and written down. Then life gets easy. It comes down to restocking the ingredients needed and fucking cooking it. Once you have done this it really helps you stay on course and away from donuts, bread, and other foods that are bad for you. Get your shit together
No you don't. Does Joe sound happy to you? No, he freaks out about food. Fuck that. Live like a Rockstar... No famous/well respected artist ever had a strict diet.
My wife and I started Keto just over a year ago and I've lost over 100lbs and she has lost over 30lbs. High carbs and sugar are meant to be treats, eaten for a event or holiday, yet we live off of it. We should be living off of food you could find in nature, not super processed
I have a fatty liver now because of years abusing cookies, chocolates and shit, i'm very fit, i surf, skate, workout, but i feel totally what Joe said, when i'm eating clean, my body is a machine and when i eat junk, i feel hangover, sleepy with joints aching.

My exercise has increased by just a little amount, so it's almost diet alone that has me down 57 pounds. I'll do the keto diet the rest of my life. I understand how bad processed sugar/flour is now. Never again will I be the slob that I was.
I tried Atkins several times several years ago (basically re branded as Keto of late), with some success and no side effects until the last time. I was in hard core ketosis for several weeks, not hungry and tons of energy, until my heart starting doing something weird, beating really hard and slow to the point where it kept me up at night. Once I went out of ketosis, it went back to normal. Tried again thinking it wasn’t ketosis, weird heart beat came back and I thought this can’t be good so I haven’t gotten back into it since. I think the idea of keto is good, but I just can’t handle being in ketosis anymore which is a bummer.
@unknown it’s normal, Keto is only for super obese ppl, if u just wanna lose some weight to look shredded, just carve out a caloric deficit and go do lifting/cardio 😂. Ur brain needs a looong time to switch from carb to no carb diet for it being able to function normally
Obviously Phafanapolis, you know nothing about good food and can not appreciate what it means to “growing up Italian” in America. It was really like a celebration, every Sunday Dinner.

I'm down 49 lbs. Started 28 August, 2017, at 220lbs. By 27 Nov 2017 I was down to 180 lbs, a pant size and a couple holes tighter on my belt. Less body fat (definitely noticeable). I slowed it down, and haven't been as strict through 2018, and hovered around 177. I've started intermittent fasting 16/8 and leaning keto in food choices, and I'm down to 170-171. Still in weight loss mode but plan to try to vary the diet a little more once I reach my fighting weight, wherever that winds up just eating OMAD and eating to satiety.
My GF’s doctor AND endocrinologist can’t give her a straight answer about her recently diagnosed “sub-clinical hypothyroidism”. Nor will they refer her to a dietitian or nutritionist to help with dietary needs. She has gained 30 pounds in the past two years, despite working out six days a week and watching her portion sizes. She’s been put on various thyroid meds, and no drug or dosage helps with her fatigue, continuous weight gain and hair thinning. She was looking into trying out the ketogenic diet, because she’s also insulin-resistant having an under active thyroid, and keto helps with people who have that issue, by lowering or eliminating the intake of bad refined carbs (anything from a packet or a box). But then she heard that keto can put further strain on the thyroid and cause a whole host of other issues in the body. She also read that exercise can stress a hypothyroid body, further exacerbating symptoms. Since she cannot get an answer on the optimal diet or exercise for her condition. Back to square one, and she feels helpless. I’m not a doctor, but I wish I were. I can only google so much with her until it becomes a fucking abyss of marketing ads and money-making fads. This is frustrating. *Any helpful suggestions out there?*
I also have hashimoto's and PCOS. Also rosacea has recently developed, which is supposed to be hormonal. I recommend her check out www.reddit.com/r/hashimotos if she hasn't already. At least it helps you feel not so alone. Also extended fasting has helped me lose weight during quarantine. Cutting out all sugar and carbs except for 90% dark chocolate and fruit / veg seems to help. Unfortunately we can't just eat less and exercise. It's a whole lifestyle adjustment. I don't know if I'll be able to keep this up when I go back to work but for now it's working. Good luck, hope she finds something that helps

You’re ideas and topics are so relatable and intuitive because you break down the science of nutrition into an understandable language. Keep it up man thanks for sharing everything!
There's nothing wrong with anecdotal evidence in addition to more rigorously gathered scientific evidence. You can be scientific and still discuss anecdotes and case studies. There isn't a scientific study on literally everything accounting for every possible variable, and things vary from person to person. It makes sense to take anecdotal evidence into account where documented experimentation may be lacking.
I had an allergy for two years, doctor said 70% of allergy have no cure. I was taking antihistamines every two days and the antihistamines would knock me out that I had to sleep 12+ hours. It was messing up my work and sleep. I went on a vegetarian diet for 8 months and a vegan diet for a month and it helped a little bit (only had to take meds once every 4 days). 10 days ago, I decided to cut refined wheat and refined sugar completely out of my diet, and for the first time since I had my allergy it’s been 10 days that I did not have a single allergic reaction to anything! I am overwhelmed with joy for finding this out even though it costs me a lot that I have to eat much meat and clean veggies but it’s totally worth it!
Doctors arent much different than repairmen, theres a handful of great ones that know how stuff works and what theyre doing, and the rest are mostly just plugging stuff in to see if it fixes it and onto the next job.
Probably you're sensitive=aka you have an allergy to gluten, which a lot of people don't even realize, and when you quit gluten, you feel better. Also try quitting all commercial meat and dairy products (as they're full of antibiotics that are given to all domestic animals in the US at least to prevent infections and maximize profits), and then you'll cure all your allergies. Your immune system is weak because your intake of diary and meat allowed the antibiotics on these products to destroy your gut microbiome. After I quit all meat and dairy, and switched to fish, not free-range (which is a lie) but farm-raised eggs from small farmers I know, plus eating lots of organic (as much as possible) veggies, my gut microbiome got restored and all my 20+ allergies have disappeared. I've been allergy free for almost 8 years, and before that I suffered with debilitating allergies for 5 years taking vaccines and different meds that didn't work at all. Good luck!
@@Monas99 thank you for your comment It’s been two years and I haven’t had any allergy even though I went back to eating sugar/gluten in moderate amounts. But you’re right, I do feel like that I might be somewhat sensitive to gluten. I just never knew that the antibiotics given to animals ends up messing our gut! I always hear that antibiotics are bad when given to animals but it never registered in my mind until now that it’s because it’ll mess our microbiome.
@@XXxxGOOOFYxxXX your most welcome. The way to test out if you're allergic/ sensitive to gluten, just go on binge on pasta, breads, cookies, and pastry for a couple of days, and if you feel worse, then you' ll get the confirmation. When I eat too much glutten, I experience allergy like symptoms- runny nose and eyes, sneezing, i cant function or focus on work, I feel horrible. Nowadays I only eat pastry, pizza or pasta on occasions- once or twice a month or so. Regarding the antibiotics, yes, they kill both - the good and bad bacteria from your gut, which destroys your immune system which consequently makes you more vulnerable to all kind of health problems and auto immune diseases, most of which are incurable. For me, the taste of steak or cheese from industrialized/ corporate farms are not worth that much risk, I'm happy with wild caught fish and eggs from farm raised chickens from local farmers, plus nuts and seeds for my protein needs. ( I don't buy free- range eggs from grocery stores- that's just BS marketing, there is no such thing). Just look into the "blue zones diet"- it's the best for me! It helped me cure both- all my 20+ allergies and my thyroid problem (both incurable according to my doctors), and I never felt healthier and more energetic as I've been on this diet (no gluten, no sugars, no meat, and no dairy) with the exception of either a slice of pizza, pasta or some pastry once or twice a month.
I used to eat a lot of bread and cheese, with almost every meal, its been a year since I quit that stuff. I'll swear by it because I feel that much better, the joint pain is real with bread .
@@gene5237 Fair question, I stopped eating cheese two weeks before i stopped eating bread, still had inflammation in my joints. Went away when I quit bread.
I lost 130 pounds in about 8 months when I cut nearly all carbs from my diet. I went from 320 to 190. Today, I only eat carbs specifically as a source of fuel for when I run. I eat those carbs and burn it all off during my workout. Outside of that, eating a high protein and fat diet keeps me feeling full. Carbs are not filling at all. In fact, the more carbs you eat, the more your brain craves carbs. When I was 320 pounds and eating 2 or 3 cheeseburgers per day, my total cholesterol was around 90. This is borderline low. Today, with a very healthy diet high in unsaturated fat and protein and low in carbohydrates, my total cholesterol is still around 90. I know it is purely anecdotal to give myself as an example, but there is no proven link between high cholesterol consumption and high cholesterol levels. There is proven link between both obesity and genetics when it comes to cholesterol. The fact is, you cholesterol is more likely to come down by losing weight than it is by switching to a low cholesterol diet.
I stopped eating almost all refined sugars, and went low carb, cut processed foods too and I lost 40lbs from Oct-March doing very little excercise just walking my dog here and there.
I had Lupus, clinical depression for 20+ years, arthritis in knee from old injury and extreme dairy allergies, went strict vegan, mostly plant-based and lots of green juices, within two months it was all corrected plus I lost a lot of weight. Wake up, bounce out of bed, high energy all day long, and look 20 years younger than I am. I don't know if these different groups are always shitting on each other and they both work but I know from my own experience that a true vegan diet is very healthy, for me the meat and dairy make me very sick.
I think healthy whole grains and beans are an important part of a good diet, fruits too. It’s all about balance and eliminating the processed foods and added sugars. You don’t have to be keto.

I can attest to this while I'm not 100% keto or even in ketosis I'm more with Joe of moderation, I cheat here and there but over all I've cut sugar probably 75% from before and carbs dramatically. My main sugar intake was absolutely from beverages and i've cut sugar to only small amounts in my food(non from beverages), carbs are way down, increased the amount of vegetable's, some fruit, cut dairy way down but mostly all whole foods and very little processed crap, no snacking because I'm not hungry between meals because I'm eating good so I'm only eating 3 meals a day. I'm down 25lbs which took me off the edge of being overweight, way more energy, joints feel better, sleeping way better.
As a type-1 Diabetic for over 53 years, my experience with carbs is pretty extensive. Since I have been vegetarian for the past 30 years (because concentrated protein sources were starting to screw up my kidneys) I rely on proper carb sources to help give the insulin I inject every morning something to work on. Without those carbs, I would be having low blood-sugar attacks daily. (Though I have had hundreds of them throughout my half-decade with this condition.) Obviously, it's all a question of balance... as well as only feasting on complex carbs: whole-grain stuff, fresh fruits, etc. (Most pizzas are made with enriched white flour.)
@@MikeKayK And the less miles you drive, the less gasoline you need to put in your car. Or the less time you spend outside of your bed, the less you'll get into an accident. By the way, I only shoot-up 8 units of my drug daily. Compared to millions of other type-1ers, I'm practically a virgin.
@@jeffreyslotnikoff4003 Umm...ok? I don't know your protocol, I didn't know how much insulin you are injecting. I was simply saying the healthier way to go would be to reduce carbs & insulin instead of "eating more carbs to give your insulin dose something to work on." If you're already on low doses then that's great. Many people are not and many endocrinologists just pile the insulin on instead of helping their patients reduce carbs. Lower insulin levels are beneficial for diabetics and non diabetics alike. Hyperinsulinemia is hugely prevalent in the general population (eating the standard high carb American diet) who've not been diagnosed with diabetes, which leads to inflammatory disease and accelerated aging.
@@MikeKayK I basically eat a very restricted diet of whole-wheat bread, peanut butter, and some fruits. If I didn't eat any carbs, even being on the low doses of insulin I inject, I would undergo low blood-sugar incidents. And believe me, I've had PLENTY of those. I'm 66 years old and I've had this thing for almost 55 years (obviously my first post is a little dated). How healthy am I? I would say, "Healthy enough"!
@@jeffreyslotnikoff4003 I assume you've taken uncountable numbers of fingersticks, perhaps even worn a continuous glucose monitor. Out of curiosity, where do your blood sugars end up after one of those bread-based meals if you didn't cover that meal with insulin? And where would they end up if you, say, ate some greens, meat, and avocado instead for example? If you enjoy bread, then of course have at it, that's your personal choice at this point in your life. But I do wonder if there are people who would rather not eat carbs, fruit, or processed food (instead focusing on greens, meats, and fats) so that they can just take Lantus once a day and then not have to think about or bother with any insulin before meals at all, given that their sugar won't be increasing high enough to necessitate it. Is that a thing?
That snowball effect he talked about is so real. I switched from drinking coffee to tea, started going to bed earlier, had less anxiety and energy highs and lows, and can control my hunger and mood better. All of that has aided me in going low calorie (I can't do keto, but hands down cal in vs out still works, and fueling my body with healthy food it metabolizes well works)
I used to do strict keto and it was great, but just a little annoying. I think the key is to try your best to avoid carbs and definitely sugar, and you'll be better off for it. I find that if I avoid carbs as much as possible, it doesn't matter when I do end up eating carbs.
I've been a vegetarian for 5 years who intermittently fasts with one meal a day and decided to give eating meat and low carbs drastically for one month. I am a vegetarian because I am a Buddhist, but I have congenital hypertension and want to live long enough to see my daughter get married and have grandchildren so I need to continue to lower my blood pressure. I don't want to have to be on all kinds of med to do it, so I figured I would try it for one month. I lost 10lbs in that month and lost 20 BP points on BOTH diastolic and systolic. However, it f*ed up my body for a few weeks in that I was constipated - something I never was before. My takeaway wasn't necessarily that it was the meat and MCT oil, but the drastic lowering of the carbs. So, I'm back to being a vegetarian and using the MCT oil. For me a cheat day (once a week) is a small bowl of pasta, a burrito (tortilla) or a few spoonfulls of rice. I don't have desserts like ice cream, pie, cake, etc. and use Monkfruit and/or Stevia as a sweetener for my coffee and tea. A month back to the monk's diet (vegetarian and one meal a day) and the weight has stayed off, I'm back to being regular and feeling better. It's the damn empty carbs. Follow the "White Death" rule: avoid processed flour, processed sugar, processed salt and you will be shocked how much weight you'll lose in a month and you'll see your blood pressure lower too.
I've tried a lot of different diets to find what works for me. The fun thing about the diets for me is that I always learn about new ingredients and learn new recipes. Low carb had the biggest impact on my overall well being but was culinarily too restrictive. But reducing carbs and eating whole grains, beans, lentils, lots of vegetables and meats is the sweet spot. But there is no "one size fits all" diet. Try things out and learn about what works for you. And don't shove it down other people's throats! 😊
Started keto because glucose and HbA1C kept going up - unintended but strangely cool things happened I cannot explain but welcomed: 1) skin tags under arms disappeared 2) chronic athlete's foot gone 3) no more body or face acne, even when stressed 4) ZERO nasal congestion PERFECT nose breathing after a lifetime of chronic sniffles/allergies/runny nose - even while sleeping 5) Went from 187-167lbs, 34 to 31 in waist
I find it crazy that most of the trending topics on diet and exercise is getting popular today but Joe has literally been talking about it literally 4 years ago, like no lie where the hell have I been? Very eye opening
I dont think everyone is the same, genetics play a role too... for me keto, a low carb, high fat diet make my mind feel clearer and my endurance goes through the roof.
ill do lots of plants in my diet with healthy potions of lean meats and protein, coconut oil, peanut butter, avocados.. after a few weeks of trying this diet out, my Friends at the gym thought I was juicing because i was getting vascular and losing body fat rapidly lmao, when in reality no drugs were involved my body was simply responding better to this kinda diet vs a conventional diet. I think keto and many low carb diets can certainly help a vast amount of people. Again its not the same for everyone but for me it works.
My problem with carb dense foods is not only do I feel sleepy but it makes me want to eat more and more and more. Where high protein high fat foods make me full but not sleepy
There’s a MASSIVE difference between “refined” carbs and slow-burning natural carbs like yams, steel-cut oats, brown rice, beans, black-eyes peas etc. I’m so tired of people lumping all carbs together. They’re not at all the same. Keto is a fad, and isn’t right for everyone. Most people would do just as well just eating clean: lean proteins (animal or plant-based), plenty of veggies (aka fibrous carbs) and whole fruits, healthy fats, and the slow burning natural starchy carbs I mentioned above. Keto requires cutting out an entire food group, which is unsustainable for most people, and frankly not healthy long-term. So many people who lose weight on keto just gain it back, with a lowered metabolism to boot.
Yup, couldn’t have said it better myself. I was actually thinking about starting a Keto diet but I did my research and found Keto to be a short-term fix instead of a long-term solution for a healthy lifestyle.
While i am 100% onboard with keto, i wish people wouldn't be so judgmental and try to be the health police. It's about finding what works for YOUR body and what YOU will stick to consistently. Find a lifestyle that is healthy and sustainable and don't worry about anyone that says their way is better, as long as your way is HEALTHY and working for you and you feel good.
It seems like diet has become almost as controversial as politics and religion. I agree, it's very subjective. What works for you might not work for me.
I find this unsettling for the people who still are obese and continue to eat high calorie diets but don’t use any good amount of that energy. Basically put in enough work to equal the amount of calories you put in.
zParallaxz calories matter of course but it’s not that simple. The type of calories you eat do matter. 500 calories in fat and protein are going to last a lot longer in your body and give you a level amount of energy versus 500 calories of pasta which will give you a spike of energy then a crash when it’s over.
lorridzak I’m not talking about people who actually will learn about the difference between starches and proteins. I’m referring to the average joe or mom who keeps eating highly processed foods and snacks while not burning enough of the calories they consume. I.e soda isn’t good for you, but if your keeping active by moving all day and walking a dog per say, the effects lessen.
I've been for some years (especially since I moved from the states back to Europe) instinctively focsuing my eating habits on natural, whole, and unprocessed foods as much as possible. Sometimes I'm told I eat "boring", but the more I hear about actual dietary science the more it comforts me into what I've already been doing this whole time. Whenever I slip tho (damn you munchies) or am forced to eat industrial crap, the old sensations of feeling heavy, tired, moody etc come back in a blink, which I would not notice back then since I was feeling like shit all the time..
Hey, Joe...if you're up for it, einkorn wheat. It is an ancient wheat that has not been genetically modified. Also, doesn't set off the body's inflammatory response. I eat OMAD keto, throwing in 1 72 hour fast a month. I am female(maybe TMI) so I do stay out of ketosis in the progesterone phase of my cycle. So during these 3 to 5 days a month, I consume einkorn, squashes, and legumes. These all support progesterone production. I'll make crackers, tortillas, pasta, pizza dough and stuff like that. It doesnt give me any of the joint pain or bloating and I'm still loosing weight. It is expensive and a lot of work. I buy whole berries and mill it myself...but it tastes better than modern wheat and my sour dough has that beautiful crispy crumb and soft squishy inside! Yum!
I was farting asf after bread with some einkorn flour added. I was trying to let my gut get used to it for the whole week, but that didn't happen. This shit is just too harsh to digest. Were you ok though?
Nope, no undercooked bread for me....just soft sandwich bread....and artisan sour dough. But to the gas situation.....to see if your system will be able to handle einkorn, you really need to use 100% of the flour in the recipe as einkorn. If you use modern wheat at all, it's not a true test of einkorn palatability/digestibility. So try a loaf without any modern wheat. You can use it while grain, or triple sift out the bran and have more of an all purpose flour. That's what I do most of the time. But don't throw the bran out!!!!! Save it and make cream of wheat hot cereal for breakfast! Plus, the bran is where most of the nutrition is!!!!
@@dizazati8627 it was a true test of einkorn flour digestibility, because I make my own rye sour bread (whole grain of course) and have no problem with digestion (if not too much eaten, unlike white bread which I can eat unlimitedly with no digestion issues). So I added 1/3 einkorn flour and 2/3 of rye flour to the sourdough, and felt like my stomach would explode. The same was with the emmer flour. My gut didn't get used to it for the whole week of eating such ancient flours even though I even tried to reduce their amount at the end of the week. Those ancient grains are just too harsh for my digestion. No wonder ancient people ate mostly meat till they selected more digestible grains to survive the hardest times and feed plenty poor people.

Sugar story. Here the UK I went to an event at Dunster Castle in the southwest. Years ago there was ships coming into port with spoils from abroad mainly India, sugar was a high value import. The funny bit. Sugar was very expensive so the poor and working class couldn't afford it. Years later the royals and wealthy all had teeth issues. And the poor didn't. Yet they didn't see the connection and instead turned to letting which is when they believed it was a poison in the blood so they would bleed people and depending on their birth month depended on where they would be cut. Absolutely true. You ever noticed a traditional barber shop has white poles with red lines around ? Before the barber was cutting hair they where cutting people and the red lines on a white pole represents blood running down the pole. Nuts hey, while your here why don't I cut your hair. And the modern day barber shop was created
@Josh Carrillo Yes and no like if you eat a 12oz steak with three sides of veggies like broccoli you are not going to be hungry for at least six hours compared to eating a family size bag of chips or some other junk food that makes you feel starving three hours later
@@joerotter2873 No shit, if you eat a bunch of a sides with anything it's hard to overeat on one thing. But if you just fill your plate with chicken, it's very easy to eat beyond an appropriate daily caloric intake.
@@electron7659 I wouldn't recommend eating just chicken. I'm saying that if you were to eat nothing but chicken, you could very easily eat too much, as you have nothing else to fill you up that isn't as calorie dense as chicken is. If you were to go on a chicken only diet, I would recommend watching how much you eat because, again, it's very easy to consume a lot of calories without realizing it.

Now I have a good job with good pay, I spend less time at work, afford a gym membership and can afford to eat a better diet.
Started keto... First hard transition was awful. First three days I felt freaking hungry like HUNGRY TO THE POINT WHEN IM DIZZY. Drunk LOTS of water too. felt much better overtime, two mounths in but i feel im still transisioning. Running and workout helps my body immensly. I went keto cause i have insuline resistance. Even if i eat small little bit of potato everyday i will be stupid, i will not be able to think and work and etc. Thats awful. Cant sleep too. Need to sleep like 12 hours. And constantly getting up in the middle of the night and cant get to sleep. On keto i can sleep for 7-9 hours and feel way more energy. Sometimes even 5-4 hours is enough if sleep in right time. Its crazy good. I cant wait when my body fully transits to keto so it can get rid of little keto inconviniences that i still feel now
You are what you eat. A little bread here and there I don't think is bad really. But, anything processed is a no for me. I eat nothing that comes in a packaged bag. Fast food, stay away from it! There are 3 types of Carbs, Sugar, Starch, and Fiber. Sugar is a simple Carb, it is easily digested, that’s why you get a Sugar High whenever you eat something sweet. Starch and Fiber are Complex Carb, they take longer to digest. Eating naturally occurring Carbs over processed Carbs is the best way to get your daily Macros.

I thought I was the only one that if I didn't get enough sleep at night, I would wake up eating refined sugar to keep me awake. Thanks for the video.

(Though I have had hundreds of them throughout my half-decade with this condition.)
Obviously, it's all a question of balance... as well as only feasting on complex carbs: whole-grain stuff, fresh fruits, etc.
(Most pizzas are made with enriched white flour.)
The fewer carbs you eat the less insulin you can inject.

All flour is processed. That’s why it’s called flour lol

@@Realifesaiyan1 What if wanna start keto diet for more energy and to reduce anxiety at work but also don't wanna lose weight?
I think genetics play a role in how much carbs the body can take, so carbs shouldn't be prioritized. Peter Attia has good articles on this.
An awful amount of time passed before someone said it.

Yum!
Squishy bread means it’s undercooked

@@MasterChief0522 So if all you're eating is nothing but chicken on your plate, you recommend only eating a small amount????
@@electron7659
I wouldn't recommend eating just chicken.
@@MasterChief0522 Oh because yesterday, I ate a full bowl of pure home cooked chicken but I fasted all day. I did a 22 hour fast. So do you think perhaps I didn't go over my recommend daily caloric intake?? (I weigh 174 lbs and 5'8" tall.)
I think Joe makes his best point around minute 9. Work plays a great part in our health. Working a shit low income job were I was not happy, but had to spend large amounts of time to make a living wage. Now I have a good job with good pay, I spend less time at work, afford a gym membership and can afford to eat a better diet.
Cortisol (stress hormone) released in excess, ages the brain and skin. Hydration levels can also effect cortisol release.
I’ve just started keto. I’ve lost 8 pounds the first week and my energy has been through the roof. I just feel amazing

Just eat real food like they said. Meat, fruits, veggies. Simple. Now, beer is still the issue, lol; but, it's made from water and plant parts.... :P
The alcool inside is the problem.
Ill take a beer over a soda or other sugary drinks
@@nonphixion4771 Beer has a ton of sugar in it.
@@tonithepony9846 more than a mountain dew ? High fructose corn syrup is the one of the worst things to put in your body. I'll still choose a beer over a can of soda. Soda and sugary drinks bring no benefits
@@nonphixion4771 Did i say beer has more sugar then a mountain dew? No i didn't. Beer has a shitload of sugar. That's like saying well I'll take 4 adderalls over 5 hydrocodones.

I’m a type 2 diabetic. I stopped eating refined carbs and only focus on Whole Foods and I don’t even need my insulin anymore. I don’t have any sugar cravings. My a1c went to 5.5 and I lost 20 lbs in less than a month. I also walk 10,000 steps a day. We need to just stop eating processed foods. And eat real Whole Foods

A lot of marathon runners are eating bread and pasta and they seem to be doing fine as far as muscle soreness goes
They burn it off, they eat prior to running. Strongmen carb load prior to a competition. That’s NOT how they eat every day.
@@the_terrorizer Well runners tend to be on a high carb diet since it makes running a lot easier. Carbs are not the enemy, overeating is
I’m 23 and have been trying to lower my high blood pressure (I’m talkin’ 155/95) for over a year. Supplements weren’t helping. Two weeks into keto, and my blood pressure becoming normal! I had a 119/79 this morning!

I’m on a _mostly_ Keto diet - predominantly fish, meat, eggs, with the exception of vegetables & fruit.
I feel way better, i’ve lost significant fat since I started (I also lift a ton though) & I feel I can do this forever.
Uhhh okay? This is common knowledge
I had low blood sugar issues and they were fixed after I started Keto
I feel absolutely better since starting keto almost three months ago.

I have PCOS, I learned recently that carbs and suger make my symptoms worse and stop me from being able to get pregnant. So I've decided to go no carb and no suger for a year and see what happens. I have tried keto for about 2 months before I had covid and my hirsutism wasn't showing up as much. Wish me luck!
