I paired the Keto diet with daily intermittent fasting and went from 280 lbs to 185 with close to no loose skin after. My Life will never be the same and I’m glad.

I use keto off and on paired with fasting to stimulate autophagy. As a bonus I love the the mental clarity and energy I get from it. I'm 40 years old and never really been overweight. As an adult I've pretty much always had good eating and exercise habits. Being metabolically flexible is amazing and I highly recommend everyone be. Not a paid advertisement l don't even know who's profiting from the way I live. It's definitely not big pharmaceutical companies or the billion dollar junk food industry.

I used to be a slave to food. But thanks to giving keto a try paired with IF, it feels SOOOOO good! and it's mind blowing to go from eating RIGHT AWAY when I wake up, with 5 meals a day, with snacks in between even when not really hungry, and often a big before bed, sometimes IN BED...to going to bed thinking, "shit I just realized I had one meal today." Truly never thought this was possible. I used to get SOOO hangry if I missed a meal. Now I'm happier than ever:) also I'm 6'4 and under 200lbs for the first time in idk how many years. I do fasted full body workouts, even on my heavy day, I save money not buying whey protein or pre workout. It's AMAZING. I hope anyone who is having trouble acheiving their goals is open minded enough to try it, to give it a true shot. REMEMBER, TO GET THE THINGS YOUVE NEVER HAD YOU HAVE TO DO THINGS YOU'VE NEVER DONE. It has changed my life and I am only on week four. I am very overweight so Keto will have to be my lifestyle. Keto has helped my blood pressure when meds. did not. It has helped my inflammation in my legs and I can already breath better. I feel like I am getting my life back instead of waiting to die. I wish I was thin now so I could be a spokesperson for Keto but I still am very overweight. Wish me luck and thank you for my life.
One week keto and I am finding it difficult, but I am not quitting. This guy is so right . Chronic pain has already stopped. IBS, no episodes this week. I’m sleeping better. I love it. I could have never imagined living without being dependent on food, without looking where I could get food anywhere I went, without worrying about where I could get my next meal. One day I wasn't able to find anything for lunch in the city that was keto friendly. So I just didn't eat at all until dinner. This freedom is just amazing!

Yes I tested my keto. I went out had a greasy chicken sandwich and a bowl of chicken nuggets breaded after having lost 41 pounds on keto in 3 months. I FELT LIKE TOTAL SHIT, brain fog, I was panicky and felt like the 90% of the population that isn't eating KETO again. It wasn't worth the 10 minutes of reward for my taste buds.
Thanks Michal- Ohhh I like that!!! That saying is something I need to have on my mirror! I have never really been horribly overweight but I just feel squishy and no leanness. I felt tired alot and I am entering peri menopause and the tummy is chubby. I want to better than I ever have for the 2nd have of my life. I have been doing keto for a week and I feel better than I did in my 20s. My skin is looking amazing, although I have been eating a whole avocado everyday with some olive oil on it. I need to make sure this becomes a lifestyle. I can’t say..oh it’s the holidays or a wedding, etc. and throw it all away. Plus that keto flu thing is yucky, so I need to stay in ketosis.

At the age of 47, after a lifetime of eating "healthy" with calories restricted AND exercise and still gaining weight I realized my doctors saying "it is about calories and calories out" was just not true. I knew I was eating less than 1300 calories a day and exercising and should NOT be gaining weight. Although I never ate desserts and avoided sugar itself, I was eating bagels, pasta, whole grain bread and lots of fruit... within 1 month of eating a low carb/high fat "diet" my whole life really did change. I lost the weight, which was great and my first goal, but all the other benefits are why I will never give up this way of eating. I am now 50, my last physical was "excellent", I have the energy of a 20 year old, sleep like a baby and no more cognitive fog. I SHOULD be really suffering right now as I am in menopause but I am surfing instead. Keto really did change my life. Not all calories are equal and there is no such thing as an "essential carbohydrate".
As someone who has underlying ADHD and a eating disorder - in which i would binge eat emotionally, Keto changed my life! I do not binge anymore, my focus is on point, I'm more calm and my mood is completely stable. I feel amazing!

Keto one year and luvin it. I work out at gym - have to do something with all the energy. Carbs under 20. I do take magnesium/potassium supplement if I don't eat enough salads. My blood work is perfect. My cardio and endurance has increased substantially. Thanks for the great video!!

I’m finding one person’s keto diet cld vary subtlety or significantly from the next person’s. Which sounds about right sense everyone’s body is different. Tom at 34:50 you ask an amazing question. The answer that I’ve given people around me regarding nutrition and specifically Keto , centers around convictions. I use the concept of convictions as a “anchor”to simplify the conversation all the while allowing the individual to easily apply what I’m saying to their style of learning. In short , exercising your convictions does not take work, thought or effort. They just exist within you. If you’re an honest person it takes zero effort to return that wallet you found to it’s owner with every single dollar bill intact. My Dad to this day is a person that doesn’t drink because he had a visceral experience growing up. My brother won’t touch a carbonated drink of any kind because as a kid he had a painful experience with a soda drink being put up his nose. The moment I realized that keto could have a positive effect on cancer prevention I immediately made a deep connection between keto and my aunt, who I had to watch die of cancer. This is bar none, the best video I have seen at explaining the benefits of keto or fasting and how it changes our relationship with food. I do intermittent fasting and people think I am depriving my self of food. i eat when I feel I need to eat. I work out heavy with weights, i am lean and if I want to cheat I do, but it is rare that I feel the need to. Kick carbs and your brain will change.
I'm loving keto. There are so many recipes for flourless chocolate cakes, zero carb ice cream and breads! I'm not missing out on anything. In fact, on keto, you get to eat everything and still lose weight.

Great Grey Host, i started dieting Dec.2019 which evolved to dirty keto and then I.F......So I've lost 47lbs. now happy to be at 210lbs.....This is a lifestyle, not a diet. I appreciate all the keto videos and comments shared on youtube, because this is where I learned about keto/i.f.
I am back on keto. I started it in sept 2019. I felt really good. I stopped in March 2020 when covid hit. I gained all my weight back, my binge eating and food addiction came back full force. I made a decision 27 days ago to give keto ago again and have been doing great. The temptation is still there though and i miss the feeling I got during a binge. But I am not going to give up.
I've been on Keto for 2 months and have lost 30 pounds, I REALLY like this Keto diet, I believe I will do this for the rest of my life, because I feel SOOOO damn good inside and looking great on the outside too 😁 ( over the years, that sugar has fucked my body up )

My life has born a remarkable parallel to Mark Sisson's. After my step dad had a heart attack, I went on a very low fat diet in my early 20s mostly as encouragement to him. I was playing a good level of soccer, and existed mostly on vegetables, , carbs, very little meat and some fish. I was very fit with resting heart rate of 40, but the word rest wasn't in my vocabulary either. It wasnt uncommon to play 3 hours squash a day and then go football training. After taking up squash, I started eating a lot more carbs (for energy) and I think that combined with a very stressful job, was the beginning of my gut problems. Some years later, after IBS symptoms for years, bloating, cramps, joint ache, and general inflmmation, including a lot of mucous, out of desperation, I saw a nutritionist in Geneva, recommended to me a good friend. Sounds dramatic but she changed my life. Apparently without having any allergies, I was hypersensitive to gluten and lactose so these were off the menu for a while, and eggs back on. The difference to my life was so dramatic that it pushed me into nutrition, and I qualified as a sports nutritionist to help others. Personally I eat keto, and my body is well fat adapted after 6 years. I am rarely hungry. I really enjoy what I eat and do occasionally eat a slice or two of pizza without ill effect. I do regular intermittent fasts, sometimes train in a fasted state, and still manage to put on muscle. At 67 I feel healthier than I have felt since my late twenties. I have a young family so staying fit and healthy is for them as well as me, but I do recommend giving keto a go.
Discovered keto end of 2018 decided to do it in 2019 and now in 2021 still going strong. Best decision i made for my health and will continue this journey for the rest of my life thanks to this guy and so many like him.
last night was the first night in weeks that i was able to sleep without any alcohol in my system. at the start of second week no sugar no grain no carbs. only meat eggs and veggies water and black coffee. i feel phenomenal. i don't think ill ever stop.😁

I am 66 years young have been on Keto and intermittent fasting for 6 mos. I have lost 62lbs and am off of my blood pressure medicine. I just had my doctor do a lot of bloodwork just to see how it all was since I have been on Keto and haven't cheated at all. My bloodwork is great! everything was normal....I will be on Keto the rest of my life....I don't ever want to be that over 200lb woman again!!!!
@@TB1M1 I took the bait and watched the video, I must say it's nonsense. We now know that high cholesterol is protective and will actually increase health and longevity! What you should look at is HDL to triglyceride ratio. It should be over 4:1, total cholesterol almost doesn't matter and fat won't effect it too much, It's the fat that's eaten with carbs that's the problem. Hope this helps!
@@gofityourself1 Complete lies, no 90+ or centenarians run high cholesterol. In Okinawa and Sardinia cholesterol is 120mg-160mg/dl. Unless you are female with high HDL high cholesterol means an early death. Check out the Cleveland Clinic studies with blood work taken a month before scheduled operation.
One of the best discussions on Keto. Have been on keto for a few weeks now and i cannot stop singing praises of what it can do to your health (weight loss was not evenin the list of my goals, but its a positive side effect i dont mind). The best part is the Interviewer Tom, who let Mark do most of the talking and was wise enough to be a great listener!
And Mark has such a noble cause, which he mentions at the end of the interview "my mission is literally to affect the health of 100 million people primarily through reorienting their way of eating in a way that develops their metabolic flexibility". If this could be done to the rest of the world, we can hope that many millions will recover from the clutches of these so called chronic/life-long/incurable diseases

When I see a motivation video that is longer than 5 minutes, I think 5 times before clicking, I almost NEVER attempt to watch any video that’s longer than 10 minutes even when I want to.... BUT I found myself watching all of your 45+ minutes videos without hesitation, and some of the episodes I watched literally 5 times (like David Goggins, Jesse Ezstler, Mel robins, Drew Manning) Your videos are EXTREMELY educational and life altering, not just motivating. Primal saved me when I was coming out of veganism. Completely changed my life. Mark was one of the first I found (him, fat burning man and diet doctor were my big start). This stuff is for real. Family is going back onto keto, we have been unhealthy for too long. After years fell off the bandwagon... I want my life back.
My life has been changed by ketogenic. It is amazing for bipolar disorder. I think research should go into neurological ketones effects that ketones have on Bipolar disorder. Now that my brain is using ketones and not carbs its like I was putting the wrong type of gas in my car.
I feel exactly the same! except im eating raw animal products now too..and the bacteria are all partying now and the brain is saying thank you. Just level headlessness and control, and bliss, zero depression and its like i got a valve now to manage the emotions.... it's to do with the gut flora, the bacterial balance and healthy hormone production.
This guy is legit. I stopped grains and dairy for going on 3 weeks now and before I started it I was training for distance running like 5ks. I was suffering from joint pain especially in my right ankle and its gone. I have no back pain, no ankle pain etc. I keep my carb count under 50gs when a year ago, with my hiit workouts, it was supposed to be around 250gs. It works.

I love that Mark talks about metabolic flexibility. Many in the keto space think it needs to be ketosis 24/7/365. I like the idea of training my body to be able to easily use both fuel sources, so I go in and out of ketosis every so often
I'm on the keto diet and when I was eating carbs I was always hungry. So it wasn't a case of me choosing when I wanted to eat like a parent looks after a child but my body being so hangry and aggressive that I was a slave to food and I was forced and controlled by my body. When you do Keto your cravings go completely and you have the power.
I‘m so grateful for all the studies & research that have been done on sugar and its effect on our body and mind. Since going keto and combining it with IF & extended water-fasts (4-5 days) I’ve managed to control my autoimmune disease! I’m 20 years old, never have been overweight but I’m doing this for my health and mindset. This is the lifestyle I want to commit to for the rest of my life. :-) We’re on a good path! I just started keto a week and I am starting to feel better. Before I started keto, I had really bad anxiety, hangry, just very tired, and just really bloat. I notice I have anxiety, alittle tired, and not bloated as much as I use to be. I am so happy keto. I can eat and not be hungry!
The key point that people cannot understand about keto is the feeling of freedom. I am not a slave to my hunger and my sweet cravings anymore, i have energy, i dont feel depressed and despite having a bad day at work i dont feel the need of binging on sweets to calm my anxiety because my body is 100% satisfied. That is the number one reason why keto and carnivre is so damn powerful. If i cheat sith carbs or sweets (birthda, xmas) damn i am back to being a skave, mood swings, feeling lethargic and not wanting to workout, why people would want to go back to that awful place? Now i simply ignore the noise, eat whenever i want at home and meet others for coffee or a walk instead of a meal and i never explain my diet lifestyle to others, i just do my own thing 🤷♀️
I'm fairly sure my body has finally switched to ketones as of this week or last. I stopped drinking beer and wine for Lent (Catholic). I started a true Ketogenic diet in earnest mid last month (Feb 2018). Down 5 lbs. I'm getting the interrupted sleep and urinating more. Feeling a little strange in the morning but these symptoms will not deter me. The weight loss is so worth it. I have used LCHF diets in the past with some success but I'm much more knowledgeable now thanks to the access to channels like this one...Thanks y'all.

This guy is telling the truth, the effects of a ketogenic diet are absolutely life altering. More energy, more clarity, more focus. I didn’t think this was possible going into middle age. I always thought you’d just feel tired as part of every normal day. After getting on this diet, my energy is better at 48 than I had at 20. This is fantastic info, believe every word. I’ve lost 20 pounds , am only at 12% body fat, and can run circles around my teenage kids. It’s all about the fuel going into the body. Get fat adapted!

Like Mark says , once you are adapted you can have more carbs without the grains of course. Like him, finger pain and other joint pain and stomach aches. However not when giving up grains and enjoying healthy fats
No grains means no rice, wheat, oats, etc. In the end, you have to get to a no sugar state. Grains have lots of sugar as does most processed food. Also, give up or reduce dairy. This really helped alleviate my joint pains.
booshmanstaff within 2 weeks my arthritis was pain was history. And for someone with cronic back pain Im bouncing out of bed in the morning. I love my food. Im far more inventive with my meal planning than I ever was. Every day is a good day now.

@@mariamunguia8863 for me fasting, both intermittent and extended, has transformed my relationship with food. I have a pretty serious sugar addiction, quitting smoking has been easy in comparison. Fasting has really helped. Look up Dr. Fung
@@mariamunguia8863 Any time you fall off the wagon, get back on right away. Forget the slip, just get back on. Tell yourself "here I am again" and then do it. You'll have slips and bumps, but get back on. Write yourself a big note, hang it on your fridge "Get back on!" It's simple, just get back on.
I’ve had so many chronic symptoms disappear from going LCHF. Even things I didn’t expect to reverse such as urinary incontinence/frequency. I can tell when I’m going too high on carbs because I develop incontinence. I doubt there is anything in the research about this symptom being reversed with keto. But it’s a definite correlation for me. As well as cognitive performance, Energy, early arthritis issues, the list just goes on.
I really loved this! Good insights and reminders of how the whole body really works. I have a very sensitive gut and keto diet totally made the difference for me. I used to eat a lotof whey and also other grains but it doesn't suit me so well. I used to eat so much sugar & other carbs and then I finally realized that exercise isn't going to make me look ripped so I just wanted change. I first tried palel, but as mentioned in this interview I also was afraid of fats. So I lost the sugar fat & a bit of weight but it didn't make me feel so good. I used to be very wary of keto diet since I had heard a lot of negative from it but did some research and figured that it doesn't cost anything to try it out. At the time I couldn't transit straight to keto foods because I had somuch other stuff left so I had to make the transition smooth. Thankfully I did since I never got the keto flu and the transition was quite easy. I hope this new podcast will open people's minds about health. I would love to see an interview about the importance of gut health. After I got mine in better shape I have been so much more happy and energized. I hope in the future people will come to realize more that the fats aren't the enemy.
I’ve just started keto , but took numerous days of no processed foods & gradually lowering carbs before going into starting keto .. only 2-3 days in rt now but thus far minimal keto flu symptoms..yay 😁 👏 I have LMNT electrolytes pks that I drink 1-2 per day so feel this has helped !!
Ex vegan here. I was plantbased low fat high carb for 4 years. It was healing at first but then I got lots of food intolerances & leaky gut. I did a 34 day water fast because I heard I could heal leaky gut on a water fast. I then during the fast felt like spirit was leading me to eat animal products again. I quit the fast. I was shooting for 40 days. I ate eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese then onto meat then just ate with no limits. Gut healed & enjoying food & life!😂 now a year later feeling spirit leading me to keto to lose the weight & heal the leaky gut that returned. I'm looking forward to starting. I have been researching keto the last couple days to really understand. I'm excited to jump in! Funny how you say fat is good for you when those vegan doctors say it's bad for you. They all look sick especially Dr. McDougal. Yikes! And you two look healthy. It's the collagen & fat that they are lacking that makes them look sick.

I did Tim Ferriss’s Slow Carb diet for two weeks before starting keto. I switched because I was learning more about keto and IF, and realized that was the way to go. I had no problem with the change. No keto flu at all. I think possibly the changeover was easy because I’d already quit sugar and flour for two weeks before starting keto.
Helpful to know it takes time- 3 weeks to truly get to the keto phase- adaptation time & avoid keto flu symptoms by doing things in steps / patience… thx ☺️ 💕
I am transitioning from being a sugar addict, to a keto diet. I am fighting myself constantly to accomplish my goal, but I know I need to do it for myself to thrive. I am wanting how to avoid keto flu, so my coworkers do not suffer my wrath lol. My grandmother died of hardening of the arteries in 1986. i havent really used much salt since then. not even in cooking. obesity is familial, as is heart disease, stroke and diabetes. but hey. As a baby boomer, i did the basic canadian food guide which was similar to the american one. like a sheep i never questioned it. Fast forward: six years ago it was suggested by my doc that i give up salt. it didnt really help much. but exercise did. so did soups. Again: three years ago i was put on hbp meds, later on water pills too. my blood pressure was 205/100ish! it came from eating all the wrong foods due to work hours. This is how I went from being a college basketball/badminton/competitive swim athlete to over 260 pounds at the last doc appointment in January. my a1c was 7.5. i just started Keto lazily about three weeks ago. It didnt take long for me to get more serious though. As a result: I havent been "able" to take my blood pressure meds or water retention pills for about five days now, since i finished my first 3 day fast (which wasnt easy or fun but it sure changed things somehow). My blood glucose was so low i was a bit worried sometimes too. It was in the 3.2-4.6 range for over a week. now its a bit higher because im trying to figure out veggies and nuts. and surprise! im even eating salt, which will take some getting used to. I'll figure myself out. But so far it's been great! At least I know that the struggles are for the right results! and i love a good challenge! But i hate the fact that my grandmother and my mother died so prematurely at 73, due to heart disease and stroke. how can we live in a world where people dont care about that...
A few years back I went full keto because I noticed some inflammation in my ankles and wrists. I realized I couldn’t do a high carb lifestyle anymore despite being really active. I went full keto and felt amazing and performed better than I ever have before. I even used to run Spartan races (Sprint, Super) completely fasted a whole day before. Then after a move two years ago, decided to work on my overall strength and went back to high carb and had a pretty successful bulking cycle. Now about a month into keto and my body actually went into keto fairly quickly with no keto flu or anything. It’s like my body was ready to be fat adapted again or something idk
Thanks to the Keto diet I lost like a lot of weight. I lost 10 pounds, for some people that doesn't seem a lot, but for me was a huge achievement because that was something that I started doing just for curiosity. And later became part of my lifestyle.

I've tried and failed at keto SO many times till I tried it when I lived alone, away from my toxic family. I'm more in shock everyday about what I'm achieving and capable of. I've not told anyone. Just done it. Naturally progressed into keto and IF. I'm no longer ruled by food. I can eat once a day and feel grateful. I'm losing weight everyday. Feel amazing. I ran today. Actually ran. When two weeks ago i couldn't even jog. Insane.

Tom, when it comes to the keto diet and the modified relationship with hunger, I look at it primarily as a weakened hunger pang without any of the hangry effects that a low blood sugar reading in a person who is glucose dependent. Because of this, you feel one, weakened sensation and I think "oh I'm feeling a hunger pang," which is so weak, I can choose to ignore it if I want and it goes away shortly thereafter, or I can entertain it but its a manageable feeling. When you have ALL of the side effects traditionally associated with hunger, all at the same time, is when people will often grab for whatever they crave or is close at hand - ANYTHING TO EAT RIGHT NOW. When you feel the benefits of more lucid thinking, and a more fluid, less bloated (lower water retention) more pain free body, that is also a secondary form of encouragement to keep on going.

The keto diet has helped me immensely from working out constantly my body changed a little at first(2013) but not much at all for years but with the keto diet for only 6 months I lost so much weight to where my old workout clothes dont fit anymore and my energy is great. I eat about how I used to just work arounds like I use pita bread for sandwiches and pizza. Lavash bread is great also. plenty of deserts I've made with almond flour and alternative sugars (xylitol/erithritol). Plenty of great low carb ice cream brands out there too like enlightened(so good). My parents got on it as well and my dad (who comes from a rice loving family) his cholesterol levels were great compared to his doctors visit before last when they were considering having him take medication for it. He doesn't even crave rice like he used to. I have my occasional cheat day maybe once every 25-30 days but overall Keto is a great and healthy lifestyle change.
This one is a really great episode. I´ve been doing keto for almost a year now and i feel totally fine. The only thing i find a bit funny is when Mark said "you have to recover" while having watched both episodes where Tom interviewed David Goggins. I thought to myself "maybe you should talk to Goggins about resting and recovering" XD
I paired the Keto diet with daily intermittent fasting and went from 280 lbs to 185 with close to no loose skin after. My Life will never be the same and I’m glad.

I use keto off and on paired with fasting to stimulate autophagy. As a bonus I love the the mental clarity and energy I get from it. I'm 40 years old and never really been overweight. As an adult I've pretty much always had good eating and exercise habits. Being metabolically flexible is amazing and I highly recommend everyone be. Not a paid advertisement l don't even know who's profiting from the way I live. It's definitely not big pharmaceutical companies or the billion dollar junk food industry.

I used to be a slave to food. But thanks to giving keto a try paired with IF, it feels SOOOOO good! and it's mind blowing to go from eating RIGHT AWAY when I wake up, with 5 meals a day, with snacks in between even when not really hungry, and often a big before bed, sometimes IN BED...to going to bed thinking, "shit I just realized I had one meal today." Truly never thought this was possible. I used to get SOOO hangry if I missed a meal. Now I'm happier than ever:) also I'm 6'4 and under 200lbs for the first time in idk how many years. I do fasted full body workouts, even on my heavy day, I save money not buying whey protein or pre workout. It's AMAZING. I hope anyone who is having trouble acheiving their goals is open minded enough to try it, to give it a true shot. REMEMBER, TO GET THE THINGS YOUVE NEVER HAD YOU HAVE TO DO THINGS YOU'VE NEVER DONE. It has changed my life and I am only on week four. I am very overweight so Keto will have to be my lifestyle. Keto has helped my blood pressure when meds. did not. It has helped my inflammation in my legs and I can already breath better. I feel like I am getting my life back instead of waiting to die. One week keto and I am finding it difficult, but I am not quitting. This guy is so right . Chronic pain has already stopped. IBS, no episodes this week. I’m sleeping better. My doctor wants me to get gastric sleeve, so I’m serious about this journey. Surgery will be my last resort. For the first time, I have hope. Thank you so much for sharing your work.

I love it. I could have never imagined living without being dependent on food, without looking where I could get food anywhere I went, without worrying about where I could get my next meal. One day I wasn't able to find anything for lunch in the city that was keto friendly. So I just didn't eat at all until dinner. This freedom is just amazing!

Yes I tested my keto. I went out had a greasy chicken sandwich and a bowl of chicken nuggets breaded after having lost 41 pounds on keto in 3 months. I FELT LIKE TOTAL SHIT, brain fog, I was panicky and felt like the 90% of the population that isn't eating KETO again. It wasn't worth the 10 minutes of reward for my taste buds.

At the age of 47, after a lifetime of eating "healthy" with calories restricted AND exercise and still gaining weight I realized my doctors saying "it is about calories and calories out" was just not true.
I knew I was eating less than 1300 calories a day and exercising and should NOT be gaining weight. Although I never ate desserts and avoided sugar itself, I was eating bagels, pasta, whole grain bread and lots of fruit... within 1 month of eating a low carb/high fat "diet" my whole life really did change. I lost the weight, which was great and my first goal, but all the other benefits are why I will never give up this way of eating. I am now 50, my last physical was "excellent", I have the energy of a 20 year old, sleep like a baby and no more cognitive fog. I SHOULD be really suffering right now as I am in menopause but I am surfing instead. Keto really did change my life.

As someone who has underlying ADHD and a eating disorder - in which i would binge eat emotionally, Keto changed my life! I do not binge anymore, my focus is on point, I'm more calm and my mood is completely stable. I feel amazing!

Keto one year and luvin it. I work out at gym - have to do something with all the energy. Carbs under 20. I do take magnesium/potassium supplement if I don't eat enough salads. My blood work is perfect. My cardio and endurance has increased substantially. Thanks for the great video!!

Tom at 34:50 you ask an amazing question. The answer that I’ve given people around me regarding nutrition and specifically Keto , centers around convictions. I use the concept of convictions as a “anchor”to simplify the conversation all the while allowing the individual to easily apply what I’m saying to their style of learning.
In short , exercising your convictions does not take work, thought or effort. They just exist within you. If you’re an honest person it takes zero effort to return that wallet you found to it’s owner with every single dollar bill intact. My Dad to this day is a person that doesn’t drink because he had a visceral experience growing up. My brother won’t touch a carbonated drink of any kind because as a kid he had a painful experience with a soda drink being put up his nose.
The moment I realized that keto could have a positive effect on cancer prevention I immediately made a deep connection between keto and my aunt, who I had to watch die of cancer.

This is bar none, the best video I have seen at explaining the benefits of keto or fasting and how it changes our relationship with food. I do intermittent fasting and people think I am depriving my self of food. i eat when I feel I need to eat. I work out heavy with weights, i am lean and if I want to cheat I do, but it is rare that I feel the need to. Kick carbs and your brain will change.

I am back on keto. I started it in sept 2019. I felt really good. I stopped in March 2020 when covid hit. I gained all my weight back, my binge eating and food addiction came back full force.
I made a decision 27 days ago to give keto ago again and have been doing great.
The temptation is still there though and i miss the feeling I got during a binge. But I am not going to give up.

My life has born a remarkable parallel to Mark Sisson's. After my step dad had a heart attack, I went on a very low fat diet in my early 20s mostly as encouragement to him. I was playing a good level of soccer, and existed mostly on vegetables, , carbs, very little meat and some fish. I was very fit with resting heart rate of 40, but the word rest wasn't in my vocabulary either. It wasnt uncommon to play 3 hours squash a day and then go football training. After taking up squash, I started eating a lot more carbs (for energy) and I think that combined with a very stressful job, was the beginning of my gut problems.
Some years later, after IBS symptoms for years, bloating, cramps, joint ache, and general inflmmation, including a lot of mucous, out of desperation, I saw a nutritionist in Geneva, recommended to me a good friend.
Sounds dramatic but she changed my life. Apparently without having any allergies, I was hypersensitive to gluten and lactose so these were off the menu for a while, and eggs back on.
The difference to my life was so dramatic that it pushed me into nutrition, and I qualified as a sports nutritionist to help others. Personally I eat keto, and my body is well fat adapted after 6 years. I am rarely hungry. I really enjoy what I eat and do occasionally eat a slice or two of pizza without ill effect. I do regular intermittent fasts, sometimes train in a fasted state, and still manage to put on muscle. At 67 I feel healthier than I have felt since my late twenties.
I have a young family so staying fit and healthy is for them as well as me, but I do recommend giving keto a go.
Discovered keto end of 2018 decided to do it in 2019 and now in 2021 still going strong. Best decision i made for my health and will continue this journey for the rest of my life thanks to this guy and so many like him.
last night was the first night in weeks that i was able to sleep without any alcohol in my system. at the start of second week no sugar no grain no carbs. only meat eggs and veggies water and black coffee. i feel phenomenal. i don't think ill ever stop.😁

I am 66 years young have been on Keto and intermittent fasting for 6 mos. I have lost 62lbs and am off of my blood pressure medicine. I just had my doctor do a lot of bloodwork just to see how it all was since I have been on Keto and haven't cheated at all. My bloodwork is great! everything was normal....I will be on Keto the rest of my life....I don't ever want to be that over 200lb woman again!!!!

@@TB1M1 I took the bait and watched the video, I must say it's nonsense. We now know that high cholesterol is protective and will actually increase health and longevity! What you should look at is HDL to triglyceride ratio. It should be over 4:1, total cholesterol almost doesn't matter and fat won't effect it too much, It's the fat that's eaten with carbs that's the problem. Hope this helps!

@@gofityourself1 Complete lies, no 90+ or centenarians run high cholesterol. In Okinawa and Sardinia cholesterol is 120mg-160mg/dl. Unless you are female with high HDL high cholesterol means an early death. Check out the Cleveland Clinic studies with blood work taken a month before scheduled operation.

One of the best discussions on Keto. Have been on keto for a few weeks now and i cannot stop singing praises of what it can do to your health (weight loss was not evenin the list of my goals, but its a positive side effect i dont mind). The best part is the Interviewer Tom, who let Mark do most of the talking and was wise enough to be a great listener!
And Mark has such a noble cause, which he mentions at the end of the interview "my mission is literally to affect the health of 100 million people primarily through reorienting their way of eating in a way that develops their metabolic flexibility". If this could be done to the rest of the world, we can hope that many millions will recover from the clutches of these so called chronic/life-long/incurable diseases

My life has been changed by ketogenic. It is amazing for bipolar disorder. I think research should go into neurological ketones effects that ketones have on Bipolar disorder. Now that my brain is using ketones and not carbs its like I was putting the wrong type of gas in my car.

I feel exactly the same! except im eating raw animal products now too..and the bacteria are all partying now and the brain is saying thank you. Just level headlessness and control, and bliss, zero depression and its like i got a valve now to manage the emotions.... it's to do with the gut flora, the bacterial balance and healthy hormone production.
I think ketones is good for the brain. I used to be on anti depressants before. Don't need them anymore.
This guy is legit. I stopped grains and dairy for going on 3 weeks now and before I started it I was training for distance running like 5ks. I was suffering from joint pain especially in my right ankle and its gone. I have no back pain, no ankle pain etc. I keep my carb count under 50gs when a year ago, with my hiit workouts, it was supposed to be around 250gs. It works.

I love that Mark talks about metabolic flexibility. Many in the keto space think it needs to be ketosis 24/7/365. I like the idea of training my body to be able to easily use both fuel sources, so I go in and out of ketosis every so often
I'm on the keto diet and when I was eating carbs I was always hungry. So it wasn't a case of me choosing when I wanted to eat like a parent looks after a child but my body being so hangry and aggressive that I was a slave to food and I was forced and controlled by my body. When you do Keto your cravings go completely and you have the power.
Lost 40 lbs including beer belly in 3 months and got pretty ripped at 56 years old. Vlogged the whole thing beginning to end.

I‘m so grateful for all the studies & research that have been done on sugar and its effect on our body and mind. Since going keto and combining it with IF & extended water-fasts (4-5 days) I’ve managed to control my autoimmune disease! I’m 20 years old, never have been overweight but I’m doing this for my health and mindset. This is the lifestyle I want to commit to for the rest of my life. :-)

I just started keto a week and I am starting to feel better. Before I started keto, I had really bad anxiety, hangry, just very tired, and just really bloat. I notice I have anxiety, alittle tired, and not bloated as much as I use to be. I am so happy keto. I can eat and not be hungry!
The key point that people cannot understand about keto is the feeling of freedom. I am not a slave to my hunger and my sweet cravings anymore, i have energy, i dont feel depressed and despite having a bad day at work i dont feel the need of binging on sweets to calm my anxiety because my body is 100% satisfied. That is the number one reason why keto and carnivre is so damn powerful. If i cheat sith carbs or sweets (birthda, xmas) damn i am back to being a skave, mood swings, feeling lethargic and not wanting to workout, why people would want to go back to that awful place? Now i simply ignore the noise, eat whenever i want at home and meet others for coffee or a walk instead of a meal and i never explain my diet lifestyle to others, i just do my own thing 🤷♀️
I'm fairly sure my body has finally switched to ketones as of this week or last. I stopped drinking beer and wine for Lent (Catholic). I started a true Ketogenic diet in earnest mid last month (Feb 2018). Down 5 lbs. I'm getting the interrupted sleep and urinating more. Feeling a little strange in the morning but these symptoms will not deter me. The weight loss is so worth it. I have used LCHF diets in the past with some success but I'm much more knowledgeable now thanks to the access to channels like this one...Thanks y'all.

My wrists too! I feel amazing and I'm 7 weeks in....all positive. Lots of trying to explain to and convince friends in the beginning, but finally realized, who cares if they don't fully understand. Great interview (as always) Thanks for being awesome @tombilyeu

This guy is telling the truth, the effects of a ketogenic diet are absolutely life altering. More energy, more clarity, more focus. I didn’t think this was possible going into middle age. I always thought you’d just feel tired as part of every normal day. After getting on this diet, my energy is better at 48 than I had at 20. This is fantastic info, believe every word. I’ve lost 20 pounds , am only at 12% body fat, and can run circles around my teenage kids. It’s all about the fuel going into the body. Get fat adapted!

Like Mark says , once you are adapted you can have more carbs without the grains of course. Like him, finger pain and other joint pain and stomach aches. However not when giving up grains and enjoying healthy fats

No grains means no rice, wheat, oats, etc. In the end, you have to get to a no sugar state. Grains have lots of sugar as does most processed food. Also, give up or reduce dairy. This really helped alleviate my joint pains.
booshmanstaff within 2 weeks my arthritis was pain was history. And for someone with cronic back pain Im bouncing out of bed in the morning. I love my food. Im far more inventive with my meal planning than I ever was. Every day is a good day now.

You'll have slips and bumps, but get back on. Write yourself a big note, hang it on your fridge "Get back on!" It's simple, just get back on.

I’ve had so many chronic symptoms disappear from going LCHF. Even things I didn’t expect to reverse such as urinary incontinence/frequency. I can tell when I’m going too high on carbs because I develop incontinence. I doubt there is anything in the research about this symptom being reversed with keto. But it’s a definite correlation for me. As well as cognitive performance,
Energy, early arthritis issues, the list just goes on.

I have a very sensitive gut and keto diet totally made the difference for me. I used to eat a lotof whey and also other grains but it doesn't suit me so well.
I used to eat so much sugar & other carbs and then I finally realized that exercise isn't going to make me look ripped so I just wanted change. I first tried palel, but as mentioned in this interview I also was afraid of fats. So I lost the sugar fat & a bit of weight but it didn't make me feel so good.
I used to be very wary of keto diet since I had heard a lot of negative from it but did some research and figured that it doesn't cost anything to try it out. At the time I couldn't transit straight to keto foods because I had somuch other stuff left so I had to make the transition smooth. Thankfully I did since I never got the keto flu and the transition was quite easy.
I hope this new podcast will open people's minds about health.
I would love to see an interview about the importance of gut health. After I got mine in better shape I have been so much more happy and energized.
I hope in the future people will come to realize more that the fats aren't the enemy.

Ex vegan here. I was plantbased low fat high carb for 4 years. It was healing at first but then I got lots of food intolerances & leaky gut. I did a 34 day water fast because I heard I could heal leaky gut on a water fast. I then during the fast felt like spirit was leading me to eat animal products again. I quit the fast. I was shooting for 40 days. I ate eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese then onto meat then just ate with no limits. Gut healed & enjoying food & life!😂 now a year later feeling spirit leading me to keto to lose the weight & heal the leaky gut that returned. I'm looking forward to starting. I have been researching keto the last couple days to really understand. I'm excited to jump in!
Funny how you say fat is good for you when those vegan doctors say it's bad for you. They all look sick especially Dr. McDougal. Yikes! And you two look healthy. It's the collagen & fat that they are lacking that makes them look sick.

I did Tim Ferriss’s Slow Carb diet for two weeks before starting keto. I switched because I was learning more about keto and IF, and realized that was the way to go. I had no problem with the change. No keto flu at all. I think possibly the changeover was easy because I’d already quit sugar and flour for two weeks before starting keto.
Helpful to know it takes time- 3 weeks to truly get to the keto phase- adaptation time & avoid keto flu symptoms by doing things in steps / patience… thx ☺️ 💕
I am transitioning from being a sugar addict, to a keto diet. I am fighting myself constantly to accomplish my goal, but I know I need to do it for myself to thrive. I am wanting how to avoid keto flu, so my coworkers do not suffer my wrath lol. I have used limited sun exposure to keep my cystic acne gone and cannot wait to get joint pain and sleep issues addressed. This is one of the most helpful videos I have seen since following you. My grandmother died of hardening of the arteries in 1986. i havent really used much salt since then. not even in cooking. obesity is familial, as is heart disease, stroke and diabetes. but hey. As a baby boomer, i did the basic canadian food guide which was similar to the american one. like a sheep i never questioned it. Fast forward: six years ago it was suggested by my doc that i give up salt. it didnt really help much. but exercise did. so did soups. Again: three years ago i was put on hbp meds, later on water pills too. my blood pressure was 205/100ish! it came from eating all the wrong foods due to work hours. This is how I went from being a college basketball/badminton/competitive swim athlete to over 260 pounds at the last doc appointment in January. my a1c was 7.5. i just started Keto lazily about three weeks ago. It didnt take long for me to get more serious though. As a result: I havent been "able" to take my blood pressure meds or water retention pills for about five days now, since i finished my first 3 day fast (which wasnt easy or fun but it sure changed things somehow). My blood glucose was so low i was a bit worried sometimes too. It was in the 3.2-4.6 range for over a week. now its a bit higher because im trying to figure out veggies and nuts. and surprise! im even eating salt, which will take some getting used to. I'll figure myself out. But so far it's been great! At least I know that the struggles are for the right results! and i love a good challenge! But i hate the fact that my grandmother and my mother died so prematurely at 73, due to heart disease and stroke. how can we live in a world where people dont care about that...
Keep an eye on those electrolytes and find yourself a good doctor that supports Keto and has a lot of experience treating keto patients. Good luck!
A few years back I went full keto because I noticed some inflammation in my ankles and wrists. I realized I couldn’t do a high carb lifestyle anymore despite being really active. I went full keto and felt amazing and performed better than I ever have before. I even used to run Spartan races (Sprint, Super) completely fasted a whole day before. Then after a move two years ago, decided to work on my overall strength and went back to high carb and had a pretty successful bulking cycle. Now about a month into keto and my body actually went into keto fairly quickly with no keto flu or anything. It’s like my body was ready to be fat adapted again or something idk
Thanks to the Keto diet I lost like a lot of weight. I lost 10 pounds, for some people that doesn't seem a lot, but for me was a huge achievement because that was something that I started doing just for curiosity. And later became part of my lifestyle.

I've tried and failed at keto SO many times till I tried it when I lived alone, away from my toxic family. I'm more in shock everyday about what I'm achieving and capable of. I've not told anyone. Just done it. Naturally progressed into keto and IF. I'm no longer ruled by food. I can eat once a day and feel grateful. I'm losing weight everyday. Feel amazing. I ran today. Actually ran. When two weeks ago i couldn't even jog. Insane.

Tom, when it comes to the keto diet and the modified relationship with hunger, I look at it primarily as a weakened hunger pang without any of the hangry effects that a low blood sugar reading in a person who is glucose dependent. Because of this, you feel one, weakened sensation and I think "oh I'm feeling a hunger pang," which is so weak, I can choose to ignore it if I want and it goes away shortly thereafter, or I can entertain it but its a manageable feeling. When you have ALL of the side effects traditionally associated with hunger, all at the same time, is when people will often grab for whatever they crave or is close at hand - ANYTHING TO EAT RIGHT NOW.
When you feel the benefits of more lucid thinking, and a more fluid, less bloated (lower water retention) more pain free body, that is also a secondary form of encouragement to keep on going.
You guys saved my life. I was vegan and got very sick. Now my blood work is great.

The keto diet has helped me immensely from working out constantly my body changed a little at first(2013) but not much at all for years but with the keto diet for only 6 months I lost so much weight to where my old workout clothes dont fit anymore and my energy is great. I eat about how I used to just work arounds like I use pita bread for sandwiches and pizza. Lavash bread is great also. plenty of deserts I've made with almond flour and alternative sugars (xylitol/erithritol). Plenty of great low carb ice cream brands out there too like enlightened(so good). My parents got on it as well and my dad (who comes from a rice loving family) his cholesterol levels were great compared to his doctors visit before last when they were considering having him take medication for it. He doesn't even crave rice like he used to. I have my occasional cheat day maybe once every 25-30 days but overall Keto is a great and healthy lifestyle change.

The only thing i find a bit funny is when Mark said "you have to recover" while having watched both episodes where Tom interviewed David Goggins.
I thought to myself "maybe you should talk to Goggins about resting and recovering" XD
