The worst thing is, that i watch this video in 2022 the first time. It is really good. You have a good version of you in the past. But your today version is good, too.
Seriously man, I'm neither religious nor do I believe in the afterlife, but somehow I still think Randy would've been proud of your rendition. So much brilliant technique, fast as hell and still so much feeling, simply perfect!
...but its being played way way waaayyy too fast... Its not a race.. This RR solo is one of his best, such a shame its being thrashed here, and all its uniqueness and feeling has been destroyed..
0:34 It's incredible that in such a technically intricate solo one of the most difficult parts to master is a "simple" bend. I've never heard anyone hit the same note with the same tone as Randy for that part. This is utterly exceptional, and that isn't meant as a criticism whatsoever, it's just a testament to Randy's tone.
I agree. What seems like a “simple” bend is not so simple. How hard you pick the string, how fast or slow you bend the string, how high or low you bend the string, all play a part in producing a unique sound.
Usually you see a lot of guys playing solos perfectly note by note, but lacking in feeling. This guy really feels it and make you feel it too. It is amazing.
Nah. Randy was nowhere near as technically sound as Charlie is today, it’s not just down to the technology. Randy was the best of his time though and is certainly a legend who had shaped the way that the instrument is played today.
same here... although by now it's april 2022 and i must've seen this video at least 30times (probably more like 40). Only thing I hate about the video is that I can give it only one upvote
Man, I know. Right now I’m just picking up a guitar after seeing Randy play the Crowley solo, I’ve been wanting to play guitar for years and years, since 7, piano too. My parents never let me play because they thought it was a waste of time, now that I’m 18 I know it’s not “to late” but knowing that I could’ve started younger sucks.
I teach here in U.K i always recommend my students to listen to your videos not for just your beautiful playing, but for the fact you eat and breath the passion it takes to play this well. I cant thank you enough
My favorite guitar solo in rock. Randy Rhoads was a complete master. The solo is technically difficult but also heavily melodic. It's a pleasure to listen to it. Some solos in current metal music are so complex that it becomes hard to make any musical sense out of them, even if they are impressive on a technical level. But this solo adds so much to the song. A true classic. We really lost an all time great when Randy Died.
I met slash once in a guitar store , and i asked him "whats the most diffecult song u learned to play?" He responded "Mr crowley is probs the hardest for me to play , because its not my style. But i do love randy"
Kept his cool and casually puts his headphones back into position. That means throughout that he could feel his headphones slowly falling off but could calculate in his mind that he would have enough time to sort it at a particular point. Pure focus and control
This is first time I have seen someone play My. Crowley 100% note for note perfect and in complete reverence and respect for the original, he expands on it and truly augments the piece. I've watched this at least 100 times in the last year or so. This is, simply put, a master piece, Charlie. Outstanding! Here we have two artists that despite all the vile things humans do, justify our continued existence.
I read the same thing. BUT also read something else that said he dabbled in coke from time to time. That was kinda the norm back then and im sure he wasnt a habitual user, but only his close friends will ever KNOW the truth. We can just continue to worship him as the guitar god he was and will always be :)
was actually in interview with Sharon ozborne i think. And i think it was a guitar magazine cause thats the only ones i get lol. Lots of info but then again, who to believe. We will never know for sure but to me it doesnt matter cause he is still the best imo.
Yea, i knew i had read it. But ya know, around that time, almost everyone did it and it wasnt a big deal like today. At that time, I think the vast majority of rock performers used drugs at times and obviously some more than others OZZY lol
Back in 1981, when I was in 7th grade, me and my friend spent the night in my friends boat. We only had one Walkman and one blizzard of Oz tape and we passed it around and took turns listening to it. I fell in love with Randy Rhoads guitar playing. Been listening to Randy and people trying to cover his music for decades. I have NEVER heard anybody play Rhoads and do justice to the beauty of his playing ability like this! Not ever. There was something beyond raw skill in his playing. The composition of his music far exceeded that of the great Eddie Van Halen, as great as he was. Eddie was a tactician and one hell of a tactician at that. But, the melody and composition put Randy on a different plane. Indeed, to compare them is somewhat unfair, like comparing apples to oranges. But for me, Randy’s playing touched the more than heart, while Eddies style made me want to go do something crazy and party. Both awesome. For those looking to feel something deeper, I believe Randy was better. It’s all a matter of what you’re looking for in your music. I think Randy Rhoads was the best. If only he’d lived longer....what we might have seen...and felt.
I can't believe it's been 10 years already. Every time I hear Rhandy's guitar tone somewhere I gotta listen to Charlie's solo. Till this day I can't get enough of it.
Exactly perfect. Hit every note clean. I preach this every day. Hit every note clean. Practice, Practice, practice. So many young players gloss over or muddy pick the notes to get through it. I always say play clean distorted. No one ever gets it. But you get it. If I was there I would stand and applaud you.
I might be a little older than many commenters on here, I've watched Ozzy w/Randy in concert play this a couple times in person in 1981. I was at the Day on the Green in Oakland and the following day in Santa Cruz at the Civic Auditorium. I worked for BGP that managed the shows backstage. Randy Rhoades never played the same exact version as on the 8 track and I believe he would be impressed by this.
Charlie, I think you're one of the best guitarists on UA-cam : a lot of them have skill and technique but they're missing what you have : you feel the music you're playing and I guess we feel it too and that's why you're so good. It's probably the best Mr. Crowley cover I've seen on UA-cam and I think Randy would be proud. Cheers
