  • MAB's "Tribute to Randy" is the complete version of Michael's amazing tribute to guitar great Randy Rhoads. This version was performed live in MAB's studio and is available on Michael's "Performance" DVD available at www.angelo.com. The recorded version of "Tribute to Randy" is available on his "Hands Without Shadows" CD available at www.angelo.com
    Michael performed some of Randy's most famous solos in "Tribute to Randy" using a completely different approach and techniques. Randy Rhoads used tapping extensively in many of the solo sections, whereas Michael choose to use "sweep" arpeggios to re create the magic of Randy's music. Michael wanted to pay homage and respect to one of the greatest Metal Guitarists of all time - Randy Rhoads, with this tribute. Enjoy!
    Michael used a Marshall "combo" amp with 2, 12's to achieve his sound. His Marshall stacks were used as props for the video.

    I've been playing guitar for over 40 years (delta blues, classic rock, very little neo-classical). I don't think I've ever seen this level of technical mastery combined with this level of intensity. I was genuinely scared at several points because it was like watching a nuclear reactor going off close-up. The enemy of great playing is getting too excited while doing it, yet that excitement still has to be present to convey the emotional content. It's a genuine understatement to say that most people have never experienced this level of intensity at any moment of their lives, let alone have the ability to switch it on like this (and somehow live with this nuclear reactor inside the rest of the time as if some ordinary mortal). Much Respect.

      Pretty much..yeah
      It has to be a helluva comedown for him when he stops, and pretty nerve wracking if he ever wants to turn it off but he can't...like if he's trying to sleep or something and his mind is still racing thinking of notes and riffs
      I don't think other skills like woodworking or computer programming have as much room for mastery as guitar does...pulled those examples out of my ass so I could be wrong, but I can't really see there being a Michael Angelo batio of fishing lol

    I met MAB after a guitar clinic at Rochester's House of Guitars. He was friends with my now ex-wife. So Michael, the ex, my 2 youngest son's (16 and 14 at the time) and the 16 year son's buddy all hung out afterwards and later went to dinner. After he finished his set walking to the "green" room back stage he asked me what I thought ( of course I knew of him since OFr Nitro days) and I stopped walking, put my arm around his shoulders, looked him in eye and told him he had no technique. LOL. He was gracious, interesting, funny and kind. He regailed us with awesome about EVH, Uli Roth, Shemker and a slew of greats and his contemporaries. Fascinating, humble and witty. Stellar musician and incredible human being!

    I walked in to Mary's Music in Clarksville, Tennessee, one day back in 1991, not knowing that Michael was there doing a clinic. He was in the middle of doing the 'over / under' technique and I had to do a double take to make sure my eyes were not tricking me. It was a true WTF moment, and I've been a fan ever since!

    It is a pleasure to watch a true master of the instrument. Just watch his picking hand. There is no wasted motion and it is as efficient as one can get. He makes it look easy. There are only a few people with these skills, but it's not even really about that. It his obvious love and passion that make him such a great musician. Liked and subbed.

    I've only really seen MAB in the context of his double neck dual playing, which while interesting, I didn't really get into that much as far as wanting to listen to it. But holy shit I did not realize how amazing this guy is. That was simply incredible, not what I expected. Tasteful, perfect, impossibly clean and precise, and just a brilliant tribute.

    I don't comment a lot on videos, but as a lifetime fan of rock 'n roll I believe MAB deserves some credit. His tributes of various artists, especially this one for Randy, really speak to me. The discussion of who is the greatest guitar player, or greatest whatever, will always be a subjective one. Regardless, in my own personal opinion, MAB has to be right up there with the greats and definitely one of the best all out shredders I've ever heard.

    • @Antarath
      @Antarath 5 років тому

      Exactly! And when he shreds he knows exactly what he's doing, and what I love about MAB is that he takes a famous riff, like in this video, and improvises in the same scale that exact riff is written in. Ok that didn't make much sense. The part at 03:05 is what I'm talking about.

    • @u.v.s.5583

      What distinguishes MAB amongst the guitar gods is his flat phrasing, his often disconnected ends of ideas, like what are you trying to say with this flawless admirable technique.
