      It’s not that your not brave enough for politics, it’s just that you don’t have time for them, and you pursued a life in the military whilst your brother took to politics, but in the chiss ascendancy not the imperial government.

      Ike123 lol brilliant that and just have a stupid divorce force. The more diverse the better have mixed groups giving ideas. The more mixed your force the better. Like if he went against the imperium that’s would be a nightmare because there are hundreds of thousands of battle groups all of which act differently and are alway combined together which helps. That and the space marines are just sooo alien to each other. It literally just means don’t use one group he can research. Literally mix your force and change commanders and crew around so that they are not fighting in the norm so he can’t use art and history to learn about his enemy as even the enemy and himself are not sure of each other.

    Thrawn's major weakness is also his strength. He analyzes everything. This can be manipulated. It's how he ended up dying in the EU. Since Noghri were the best assassins/bodyguards in the galaxy, he naturally would have one for his own defense, but the Noghri killed him in the end.
    Applying that to the new continuity, the proper method is to co-opt someone with talent enough to get close to Thrawn and then simply bide your time until he takes his shot. It may even be possible to use Noghri again, as there are still many similarities between the EU and this new Disney alternate reality.

    • @KaptainSparta
      @KaptainSparta 2 роки тому +1

      You know, if you think about it that way, Thrawn only ever, at the very core of all his schemes and plans and workings, relied upon the 50/50 chance of his bodyguard actually being an assassin in the end. Furthermore, it turned out that despite all of his rigorous plans, his intense intellect, all of his strengths and power, it was this 50/50 gamble at the core (seemingly the only major mistake the man ever made in his entire life) that ended up being his undoing in the end.

    • @bayarsejar5831
      @bayarsejar5831 Рік тому

      Yeah you are right because he didn’t think of why the noghri were loyal to the empire or if they could ever be turned against him.

    Thrawn reminds me of Batman, specifically the saying "Batman can defeat any enemy with enough prep time". Consequently, I think the best defense against Thrawn is a good offense. Thrawn is unstoppable with the initiative, so you can not give it to him. The Republic had the superior numbers during the Thrawn campaign, and so they should have attacked his shipyards and planets before Thrawn could attack theirs. Force Thrawn to respond to you and not the other way around, and don't let up.
    This is by no means a perfect strategy, and it will lead to more casualties as it will soon become a war of attrition. However, that war of attrition should be your goal against Thrawn. Look to the American Civil War. The South, despite being outnumbered most of the time, would win battles due to superior officers such as Lee and Jackson. The North however had a much larger population and industry, and thus could sustain heavier losses. Grant played to these strengths, and while it led to a high death toll, he won the war. Thrawn is also only one man/Chiss, so attack on multiple fronts so that he can only respond to one attack at a time.
    Thrawn will outsmart you, and he will probably decimate several of your forces, but the goal is to not let him recover his losses. He only has so many Star Destroyers, and not many at that, so strike hard, strike fast, strike often, and strike everywhere. And if all else fails, offer a large bounty and clemency to any Imperial who offs him.

    • @michaelramon2411
      @michaelramon2411 6 років тому +86

      Another point - use what you know of your strengths and Thrawn's forces' weaknesses. Thrawn's presence does not automatically make the TIE an effective starfighter or ISDs not vulnerable to bomber rushes. Now, obviously, over time he will attempt to compensate for that (for example, with TIE Defenders), but that just leads to another element of the "be aggressive" strategy - time is NOT on your side. Thrawn will adapt to your tactics faster than you will adapt to his, so it is critical to crush him as soon as possible.

      You could target many major objectives with a large force for each. If you are not aiming for one or the others in particular, you should be able to achieve one or two objectives. Repeat this, and you should be fine, as the only thing that would really work against you would be a larger force or a super-weapon

    The most important step when facing Thrawn is to accurately assess how dangerous he is. Obviously, that's important to do with any foe, but it's especially crucial here. Underestimating Thrawn is obviously a serious danger, but overestimating him is risky as well. Thrawn's strategies are as dependent on grand gestures and a long series of bets paying off in a row, resulting in truly epic finales designed as much to intimidate and amaze as they are to actually win. When his bets don't pay off, they generally don't cause him much harm, and so don't get noticed very often. The end result is the appearance of Thrawn as an unstoppable god of strategy - a reputation he is intentionally cultivating to intimidate opponents and make them second-guess themselves. When Thrawn makes a mistake (as occasionally happens), his foes often don't exploit it because they fear that he is merely pretending to make a mistake, and that's it is actually another trap. Fighting Thrawn as the (very competent) man he is, rather than the god he is not, is the best way to survive.

    If I were to defeat Thrawn, I would not try to do so in battle, rather, I would try to assassinate him. Either by infiltrating saboteurs and assassins in his ship, or by putting a bounty on his head. Although, I wouldn't want to kill him, I think he would be more useful captured alive.

    • @1110-s1t
      @1110-s1t 6 років тому +24

      Marcos Bravo yeah my strategy would be to organize my resources such that I could make the argument to Thrawn that we would be able to better help the Chiss in the long term.
      Probably something to the effect of speculation regarding the lack of versatile fleets in the Empire and the potential for a much better political ally in the long term. The Emperor does not care for the Chiss at all, but the Rebels so seem to care about life generally speaking.

    • @marcosbravo9645
      @marcosbravo9645 6 років тому +19

      Well observed. Thrawn is a resonable person in my opinion. "The Emperor takes whatever he wants from non humans. You are very aware on how the human Imperials are hostile to your presence, don't you? If the Empire ever arrives on your side of the galaxy, it would be way worst for all your people. What I am trying to say is that you and the Chiss can relly on us far more than you could ever relly on the Emperor. It would be unwise to turn off this offer, and you would be of great use to the Rebellion,"

    • @BlueDragonknight375
      @BlueDragonknight375 6 років тому +12

      But that will only work if Thrawn believes the Rebellion has a chance against the Empire.

    • @marcosbravo9645
      @marcosbravo9645 6 років тому +10

      Nina Sampson yes, and I think he would think so. In legends he was outnumbered, outgunned and yet he started a war with the faction that dominated the galaxy using guerrilla tactics. Just like the Rebellion. The deal would be to convince him he is better with a small fighting force than a large one that could stab him in the back the moment it feels like it.

    • @BlueDragonknight375
      @BlueDragonknight375 6 років тому +6

    - In battle of Atollon, he could have crush both Massassi & Phoenix group and strike a deadly hit at the Rebelion, but he didn't expect Clan Wren's reinforcement and Bendu's help
    - Likewise, during Lothal's liberation, Thrawn didn't planned on Ezra having a surprise ally

    • @Ustra
      @Ustra 6 років тому +5

      In one of the books (about the Outbound Flight Project) Thrawn encountered a Trade Federation task force for the first time. His species, the Chiss, also were said to not have droid technology. Thrawn crushed that task force without losing a single ship, despite being at a severe disadvantage, troops wise.
      In another case the admits to Palleon that he once encountered a species he didn't understand despite studying their art. His solution, apparently, was to brute force the problem and now that species is extinct as far as we know.
      If anything, Thrawn's biggest weaknesses were not understanding the force (e.g. not realising how much more powerful he was making C'Baoth by using clones) and, on occasion, over predicting enemies by assuming they had information they did not, in fact, have. Even the smugglers mentioned here require additional information. They were there because they fell for the feint and assumed the real battle would be at the OTHER shipyard. Considering this, I'd say one of Thrawn's bigger weaknesses is hidden in one of his bigger strengths. The complex plans he favors require precise timing and action. That's why third party interference is such a problem. The more complex something is, the easier to disrupt it is, too.
      Incidentally, the "new" Thrawn seems to have gained a weakness in his lack of ability (or perhaps inclination) to think politically.

    I feel like the takeaway here is that Thrawn is specifically vulnerable to several elements of *his own strategy.*
    He destabilises his enemies behind the lines and makes use of seemingly unrelated details, but every time he's on the receiving end he falls apart.
    Once he stole Lando's mole miners, *that was it.* Lando was no longer a concern, that was in the past now and unrelated to his shipyard raid.
    His interactions with Talen Carde almost certainly raised red flags, but at Bilbringi, Carde wasn't the issue.
    He gave the Noghri every reason to turn against him if they ever found out what he'd done, but *why would they find out?* And if they did, of course he'd be able to deal with them in due course.
    And moving over to Rebels: why would Konstantin go against orders? His repeated humiliation carrying out previous orders that had been designed to fail *had no bearing* on the assault on Atollon.
    Thrawn always thinks about the big picture, but in battle he does so with tunnel vision - focusing on how to get the greatest benefit out of the particular enemy in front of him.
    Allies, subjects, subordinates, third parties, and enemies bearing no immediate relation to the matter at hand are all of no concern.

Get him to focus his attention entirely on one enemy... whether one species, one elite unit, one commander he can see as a true rival... and use them as much as possible against him so that they get his attention... and then pull out your surprises at just the right moment.

    Honestly one of his state goes could be used against him, the Thrawn Pincer. Think of it, if he uses the gravity wells and interdictors to halt a retreat and launch his forces you could do the same but behind him, have him attack your forces that you already have in the battle and then get his coordinates and have the rest of your fleet jump in from a certain angle, this mean you have now not only ambushed him but you have used his mind against him, something Thrawn would certainly be take aback from also since your secondary force would come in close to the interdict or, you would be able to immediately attack them meaning he would lose his ability to halt your retreat if you lose the battle but it also doesn’t buy him time if he needs to escape and he will be caught in a pincer attack himself.

      Ironically though, Thrawn is very similar to the combat abilities of both Talion and Revan, just on a grand scale. Talion will look at his enemies and determine their strengths and weaknesses, adapting his style to beat them, and he overcomes stat differences with sheer skill. Even when he goes into a fight blind, unless he gets finished off in a few blows, he can adapt and determine his enemy's strengths and weaknesses mid-fight.

      Don't let him predict you: Find a friend who thinks differently and half the time do what they say. Don't let him observe you: Attack multiple places at once. If he turns up at your attack, run away and never take command of a fleet again. The Republic had manpower.

    • @lenkagamine4145
      @lenkagamine4145 5 років тому

      I think the best way to beat him is to focus not on coming up with an unpredictable strategy or ingenious maneuver, because he'll just predict it anyways. I think the best way is to focus on forcing the battle to become a straightforward slugging match, then win through sheer conventional tactics. Yes, he will predict them. So just come up with a strategy that works even if the enemy is predicting exactly what will happen. Force yourself into close range where the order of battle breaks down, and then engage them on all fronts at once, making sure to cover all your blind spots, cover all your weaknesses, and focus your fire on the enemies strengths. Leave no openings or weaknesses to be exploited.

    I know Star Wars Rebels is canon while the Thrawn Trilogy is legends, but I like to think that Thrawn's struggles with the mystical (Bendu and Purrgil) in the former influenced his actions in the latter (Joruus C'baoth and Ysalamiri). At least pre-Endor, a major blind-spot for Thrawn was anything that didn't fall under conventional warfare. He doesn't really get the force.

  • @torjones1701
    @torjones1701 6 років тому +18

    You've got a couple of really good ideas there, and since he's an information specialist, I whole heartedly agree with the tactic of denying your enemy valuable information. I would study and analyze his tactics from previous engagements, basically, not only deny him the information he needs to be effective, but return to him in kind a bit of the information specialist strategy. I also agree that you should absolutely keep forces in reserve, standard forces that he MAY believe that you have, but also, as you suggest, mercenaries and pirates that he knows nothing about. Finally, you need to develop specific battle plans to deal with him, on the surface, it looks like your typical battle plan, but hides feints, distractions, false-feints, micro-jumps assisted by grav-mines, etc. especially if your normal battle tactics do not include such maneuvers. Start dismantling his fleet by stripping away his starfighter coverage. Then eliminate his corvettes, then the frigates, and all the time work your way from his smallest ships to his biggest ships, because it's expected that you work from the biggest ships to the smallest ships. However, in star wars, having many smaller ships is an advantage in combat. So, strip that advantage away as quickly as possible. Leave him with as few hulls as possible if he either manages to defeat you anyway, or manages to retreat. That's the last thing you really need to do as well, manage your own fleet's order of battle. You need starfighters primarily, and corvettes and frigates that are equipped with capital scale guns. It matters less how many of those guns that each ship has, more that you have more platforms that have a small number of those guns. combine that with an insane number of starfighters, and you've got Thrawn in the bag.
    Regardless of anything else, he is still an imperial tactician, hindered by the doctrines of the Empire, and this too can be used against him. Star Destroyers will happily chew other capital ships up, they are woefully ineffective against starfighters. Star Destroyers may have a fairly easy time destroying Corellian Gunships, but when there's 50 gunships against 10 Star Destroyers, your star destroyer is going to lose. This is essentially Hitler's tactic in the North Atlantic, he failed with it because he started the war with too few subs, and production was never high enough to cover the battle tactic. If he had managed to start the war with the wolfpacks, his admirals were right, they would have utterly dominated the Atlantic. Even the Dreadnoughts of Katana Fleet were already following Imperial Doctrine of "Bigger is better" and it's just not true in Star Wars, and only rarely so in real life. That's a weakness in his order of battle, and that weakness needs to be exploited, largely by fielding ten times as many starfighters as you normally do.

    • @shraka
      @shraka 6 років тому +3

      I love your gunship idea. You need your forces to be fast enough to out-run his interdictors to avoid being trapped.
      The Republic had manpower. Diversity in command staff would be a huge advantage especially if a more flexible command structure was employed. Depending on the resource advantage you could run two or even three strategies concurrently thought up and run by different Admirals, essentially operating three overlapping theatres of war on the same battlefield. These strategies could (and should) be abandoned if they work too badly OR too well to avoid traps. While this kind of chopping and changing is usually not ideal that should make it difficult for him to immediately understand which strategy he was facing at any given time.
      However my biggest strategy would be to avoid engaging him tactically at all. Equip your forces with the ability to escape his interdictors - ie Fighters and your Gunship idea. Attack two or three places at once, whichever force believed it was facing Thrawn, withdrawn. Rinse and repeat each time with a different tactical approach.
      If he concentrates his forces, great, take out all his supply and support infrastructure. If he distributes, great, engage his less competent commanders to take out military assets.

    • @torjones1701
      @torjones1701 6 років тому +3

      I like that strategy as well, but eventually, you need to engage Thrawn himself, or you haven't defeated him. I have no problems though with postponing that engagement until his units are broken, bleeding, bedragled, tired, worn out, desperate, demoralized, and out of supplies.

    • @shraka
      @shraka 6 років тому +1

      Yeah. For the head on engagement(s) I'd mostly follow your plan of attack, with a few additions. Firstly I'd have trained my commanders to be flexible and listen to their command staff more than usual, then make sure I had diverse command crews on each ship. I'd probably embed tactical consultants for key Captains and Admirals to draw on. I'd also ensure the plan for the battle was flexible and didn't rely heavily on the coordination of a single Admiral, as well as having multiple strategic objectives, any of which could be met to consider it a victory.
      However at this point as you say hopefully Thrawn's forces would be exhausted, even if Thrawn isn't, causing more mistakes. You'd also hope that Thrawn would be severally lacking in supplies and/or combat assets.

    I don't recall any time he was put on the defensive (if it happened in the newish animated series's then that would be news to me) so I think a guerilla campaign organized/run by people of different cultures that in and of themselves go against the grain of their own cultures would have a fair chance.
    Loose outline:
    Hit his logistical infrastructure for a bit to get him to increase his resource allocation towards protecting it (repeat at random, be aware of artificial slackening). Hit manufacturing facilities (small group in and out, not big hammer smash attempts. A blown power system or two on say, Kuat, could have been crippling). Mine primary access corridors to his key facilities. When in a large scale fight, focus down 2-3 key ships and withdraw. Assassinate moderately competent commanders when able, occasionally eliminating very competent ones (leave the idiots alone, they're a bigger benefit to his opponents alive). Don't get tied down in one place. Try and stay on moderately good terms with a cartel or two who have a vested interest in Thrawn failing (they can be a good source of intel), but be aware that their interest could shift and be ready to adjust if/when it does. Training facilities and, if discovered, cloning facilities need to be neutralized as rapidly as possible and repeatedly as they pop back up.
    In short, anything the New Republic couldn't/wouldn't do due to its size, obligations and being the 'good guy' faction.

      On the one hand I think that any starfighter that moves in space like an actual spaceship instead of an aircraft has a fairly large advantage over the less realistic spacefighters. Simple put, if the A-wing is on the Vipers tail the Viper can flip over and shoot it, we never see Star Wars fighters dong things like this (that I know of).
      On the other hand I don't know why Star Wars fighters insist on acting like airplanes. Is it just because it's more intuitive for the pilots? Could it be turned off? Though, then the A-Wing pilot has to figure out a rather different method of fighting, in the middle of a fight. Hard to do.
      The other big question would be how good the shields are at blocking bullets. From what I understand Star Wars shields come in two flavors. Ones that block blaster bolts and ones that block physical objects with the latter being much more energy intensive. Which means I wouldn't expect fighters to have the latter.

    You defeat Thrawn the same way Napoleon was defeated by the 6th Coalition.
    The New Republic had vast resources and could afford to fight for at least some 4 years before the Emperor returned.
    Betting it all into a decisive engagement at Bilbringi was a terrible decision that would have otherwise de-facto ended the war.
    What they should have done instead? Attack. Attack often. Attack everywhere. Attack unpredictably. Attack with enough strength to break through, but don't overcommit. One day, you attack Thrawn's weak spot. The next you target his main fleet for a quick skirmish. Then just after he's done winning against those people, attack another planet.
    Attack everything imperial. Hell, even create a learning algorithm, keep it secret and use that to make certain military decisions. A self-created tactical mind with no culture to speak off. That will throw Thrawn off for some time.
    Attack with fleets small enough so as to be able to dangle around his main armada, but large enough that Thrawn cannot simply detach a wing of ISDs without significant risk.
    Always assume Thrawn is invincible in battle, so just simply ignore his main force and wear down his subordinates.
    Keep doing this for many months, or even years. Thrawn will try to appear vulnerable and lure your main force into a decisive battle, but refuse to attack. Your final goal is one decisive engagement, yes, but it must be fought on your own terms.
    Finally, as months of endless campaign stress and exhaustion begin to accumulate on Thrawn and his men, they will become more prone to make mistakes. Eventually, the time will come to engage the Blue Man himself in battle.
    A battle carefully prepared, fought in an advantageous position, where once the enemy overcommits it cannot withdraw easily, and where you can bring overwhelming numbers to bear.
    This is not an elegant way to victory, nor the least bloody or the quickest. But with resources available to the New Republic, it would be the most effective. Bilbringi was the New Republic trying to outsmart and outfight Thrawn and would have been a Cannae under normal circumstances. What they needed to force instead was a Leipzig.

      -Able to come up with strategies and tactics that aren't especially brilliant, but highly adaptable, and maintain a fleet composition that maximizes this advantage
      -Biggest strength is as a statesman, easily courting allies unknown to Thrawn and using them to cause sporadic problems for Thrawn's strategies
      -Skilled in deploying and managing a network of spies, saboteurs, and assassins to gather intelligence and nullify Thrawn's advantages
      -Carefully cultivates a cadre of competent subordinate officers who are able to use the flexible overarching strategy to take initiative when needed, stretching Thrawn's ability to study enemy commanders to the limit
      -Always requisitioning top secret, newly researched technology to further increase unpredictablility

    1: Do not make this battle a space battle.
    2: Be Ackbar-level admiral. Thrawn almost crushed New Republic with ~50 star destroyers. Ackbar actually crushed Galactic Empire with much less: we start to forget who actually is the boss of all things naval) Thrawn himself made sure not to cross this sentient in direct spate battle, after all.
    3: Use "force-sensitive" cards. They pretty much turn any chances of victory, small and lagre, into a coin toss for each encounter - hence, with time and effort and enough of force users this method will succeed.

    The best way to defeat Thrawn is to use something he couldn't predict. Like in Rebels how could he predict that force space squids would appear. Or in the Thrawn books, how could he see that his bodyguard would betray him.

    ~jeopardy music~
    A. Be an actual good Naval Commander
    B. Be a main character
    C. Use "OP" Space Whales
    D. Gain Thrawns trust as his bodyguard, guarding him to years to gain trust and to know what time to kill him, then backstab him, watching him look at you with a blade in his back, as he motions with his lips "Why".
    (This has nothing to do with lore or anything)

    Well, I do have an interesting and uniquely designed flagship under my command. I designed it to be the ultimate cross-universe kitbash vessel. For the base hull design I've adapted a Federation Excelsior-Refit class starship. I've found out that I can put a large amount of Star Wars technology in this ship design. I've already swapped out the phasers for turbolasers. I've also installed a hyperdrive alongside the Warp core. One design I've not quite decided on is what to swap the photon torpedoes with. I'm still torn between proton torpedoes and ion cannons. Although I am leaning more towards ion cannons since I have a lot of fighters which already have proton torpedoes. But still think I have the perfect balance of technology. With my weapons I have the ability to compare my firepower more reliably. My ship is much faster and more maneuverable at sub-light speeds. Also, thanks to my warp drive I can easily get away from a situation should I need to. Also with my different shield technology I can easily escape from a tractor beam by just remodulating my shields. Although interdictor ship would still be a bit of a problem, as those gravity well generators would work just as well in warp speed as they would in hyperspace.
    Do you think my ship would stand a chance in this situation? If I need more help, please suggest what ships I should bring to make up an attack fleet. Thanks! And let me know what you think of my ship.

    How to take down Thrawn in three easy steps:
    1. Attack him politically. He's a tactician, not a politician. If you can destroy his credibility, the Imperial warlords will tear him to shreds.
    2. Jedi and Force-users. Thrawn may have Ysalamiri, but he's still very much physically vulnerable. Separate him from his Ysalamiri and Luke could make quick work of him.
    3. Be random. Use incredibly diverse forces with different tactics to catch him off guard. He can certainly predict the actions of these individual groups, but enough different strategies simultaneously taking place might distract him long enough for a victory.
    Also, if all else, fails, pull a Holdo and yeet yourself at the Chimaera like a MC80-shaped bullet.

    Examine Vietnam vs USA. Same tactics. Guerrilla warfare. Enlist saw Guerrero or someone like him. Let them go nuts. Allow lower officers to plan attacks. Never the same one either. Always split your forces. Different routes to same goal. Always changing goals. Splitting and conjoining tasks before splitting them again. Read art of war. All my two cents.

    I really hope Ezra convinced Thrawn to join the Reasistence think about it.
    Thrawn and Asokha talking about Anikan.
    Thrawn trying to earn the Ghost Crew trust especially Hera's.
    Kallus working under Thrawn again, but in the Reasistence this time around.
    The Chiss Accendency helping the Reasistence after the collapse of the New Republic.
    And Thrawn building a bound with Jecen and telling stories about his Father.
    That would be cool and interesting. 🙄

    Ok ok, don't overlook my idea...
    I would, sneak, onto his ship, impersonating officers and such like we've seen before.
    Then I would proceed to,
    Pull down, my pants...
    And
    Piss in his face.
    :D
    I don't think he'll see that coming... Also, on that line of thought, undermine the officers.... Pay them off.

    Why am I not already sided with the Empire? Seriously. I would never side with the Republic as it exists in Star Wars, or any of the hundreds of other factions. I would be working directly with and for Thrawn. The man is legendary and deserves serious respect.

    How I would defeat Thrawn? Take a bunch of MC80 Home One's and put them in a close formation where their shields arrays overlap and they don't fire for extra power to the shields.. While Thrawn takes time pounding away at the shields, send in a squadron of quasars for additional fighters and simultaneously launch fighters from both quasars and Home Ones. Fighters so a standard screen of enemy TIEs while bombers make runs at the flanks of the star destroyer formation. Thrawn would then have to get close for two reasons. 1) his fighters cant repel rebel fighters because of the difference in quality. 2) To put pressure on the Mon Cal ships to break formation for him to pick them off one by one. He would also respond with lancers most likely, but it would take time for him to get precise coordinates with the Thrawn pincer. So, as the Star destroyers wait for lancers before moving in, the Home One's switch their doctrine. They form an arrow head formation and launch an assault against the star destroyers. This would then cause Thrawn to recalculate the lancer's positions as to avoid them getting destroyed by the Mon Cal ships. This act buys the rebels more time, leading for the flanking star destroyers to be disabled with Ion Cannons and proton torpedoes. While the Home One's move in to bombard the enemy center, groups of MC80 B's are sent in to attack the flanks of the enemy fleet, using the disabled star destroyers as cover when they need it to recharge their shields. These new ships also force Thrawn to abandon any hope to bring in Lancers because of the 80B's. This allows for free reign against the enemy center with the Home Ones while the 80 B's and fighter groups protect the flanks of the Home Ones from any Thrawn Pincers. Thereby rendering the rest of the star destroyers in the center as exposed without any means of support, forcing them to retreat or be destroyed.

    I think I would do the same strategy that King Bernadotte developed to face Napoleon
    Not fight Thrawn, but attack with force where he is not present, and just try to face him with all possible advantages, many more ships, more arming, more everything

  • @scotttrek4182

    I think the best way to defeat Thrawn is to at first only fight where Thrawn isn't. If you can ship away at his less competent subordinates then you can reduce Thrawn's overall strength without risking a direct fight. That's effectively how Napoleon was defeated before his 1st exile.
    Of course Thrawn would quickly start adapting to that so its also important to continuously switch up strategies and try and act unpredictably.

    Thrawn delt with incompetenc by spending time on varies ships in his fleet during battles to train them. this had the effect that the generals and commanders in his fleet became experienced and could deal with enemys on there own even if he was abcent. ussually thrawn also gave his admirals challenges to define weaknesses in there tacticall and strategical thinking to optimise there talent. vader killed everyone who made a misstake. thrawn let them learn from them that they never do it again so you can kinda rule out the incompetenc of his subordanance. (sorry for my bad english)

    Thrawn's main weakness is his uniqueness. Kill him and the rest falls apart. I would use a multiple attack strategy :
    1. Inflitrate a spy skilled in assassination on board of the Chimaera. He will attempt to kill him only a week later.
    2. Challenge him with a fleet commanded by a skilled admiral, performing quick and vicious strikes on his supply lines and reinforcements.
    3. Use spy's intel to quickly locate an interdictor cruiser and send a commando to steal it while Thrawn is busy.
    4. Send fighter squads to destroy every surrounding communication satellites, to temporarily blind him.
    5. Use spy's intel to locate and attack the Chimaera alone, by pulling her out of hyperspace, expecting her with a solid task force to take care of her, but not commanded by the admiral, rather, by another skilled officer remained silent during the campaign. I'll jam his communications and target shield generators first, then communication antennas, hyperdrive, and engines. Of course the spy would know this attack is the signal to strike.

    I'd use Imperial politics to distract him and strangle his ability to act through a lack of resources. While doing so, I would hire third parties to conduct raids and slash-and-run tactics on his forces to keep him occupied and buy time for the political and financial pressures wore him down. Taking military action against him would be my very last move and would only come after pushing him as far as I could indirectly and failing multiple times to recruit him.

    Same way of thinking as him...know your enemy...but also yourself and your capabilities...that's the only way to beat it...also priorities of only one objective at a time and give it focus, like stenghtening the fleet, the defense, the hyperspace lanes...also as a fleet commander, know what other fleet are known to exist is the galaxy !
