This is a surprise to be sure, but a very welcome one Edit: just tested this against a full power rebel fleet over Coruscant, with these tactics I lost only an Interdictor and 5 Carracks, without them I barely escaped with 2 of my 8 ISDs and everything else lost
using interdictors to pull star destroyers out of hyperspace at a precise location is actually incredibly genius and im surprised i never thought if that after being a star wars fan for so many years, i love it
Well probably, but the empire would have been far less stable. There would be small rebellions everywhere which the empire would probably defeat. But do you really want to fight your population 24/7.
Julian But the Rebellion would be less likely to appear since the Tarkin Doctrine is based on fear and that caused people to rise up, before the tar king doctrine the Empire was more like a Dictator running the republic and most people liked it , but without things like the Death Star, slavery would not be used to planets like Kashyyk and other slave planets would also be less likely to rebel. The empire would probably end up suing Victory IIs, Dreadnaught cruisers and Arquitens so they would definitely have a better fleet to combat rebel tactics.
@@toby1061 slavery wasnt part of the tarkin doctrine, the empire wouldnt suddenly be nice. What you are describing is what would happen if thrawn was emperor. He isn't. Secondly people would still be oppressed by a large millitary, that wasnt part of the tarkib doctrine either, that was also palpatines idea. Julian The Tarkin Doctrine started things like the Death Star which are the projects the Empire used slavery on. This means without the Tarkin doctrine, the Empires military doctrine wouldn’t be based around fear, before the Tarkin Doctrine, the Empire was a lot better than it was in the original trilogies, the worst they did was conquer planets, but the ones that lived under the Empire were a lot better off before the Tarkin Doctrine.
#AskEck What is more usefull in Star Wars: 1)refine tactical jump technology and practices and continue using classical SW plasma "lasers" with their crazy power output; 2)switch to less developed in SW lore weapon types such as magnetic accelerators and proper beam weaponry; 3)go for highest cost in terms of both production and logistics options that combines power and damage output, but will drown your econome - dedicated proper carriers instead of battlecarriers and higher focus on ordnance like missiles and bombs? Assuming you have resources(and somehow also capability) to make any of the 3 work. But only one.
I've been trying for years to get into this game and I just kept bouncing off, I'd get overwhelmed, I'd feel like I had no idea what I was doing in ship to ship combat, and now it's finally clicked. I started using the tactics from this video in an Empire of the Hand campaign and it feels great. I sent my fleet to basically raid every world in the Eriadu system, blocked off all hyperspace routes out of the system and started building up ground forces with the production facilities I'd been building on the planet's I'd conquered from them earlier. There was nowhere they could run that I couldn't chase them down and destroy them, Thrawn just had them by the throat in this whole sector and was slowly squeezing tighter and tighter. I finally felt like an Imperial admiral executing their master plan and it's all thanks to this vid starting me down that road.
#askeck If you were a ruler of a (non-core) star system during the clone wars who would you ally yourself with? I’m Interested to hear your answer as you’ve covered both the noble aspects of the separatists and the dark side of the Republic on your channel.
With the Thrawn's pincer strategy, there should be a game mod that makes it so you have to use interdiction to be that accurate in jumps. So that players aren't getting the advantages of that tactic without putting in the effort. Basically unless interdicted, all ships come in on random vectors even if they have spotter ships
I love the fighter flying in circles at hyperspeed around 13:00(Look at the minimap, but it also ZOOPS over Eck's fleet a few times) Always love that glitch
Didnt Thrawn make some tactics that is like what General Grievous did at the end of Clone Wars? Like jumping with a small fleet at Kuat and taking out the shipyard there and jumping on to the next system that is poorly defended
I just started playing EaW, I know I'm decades late, and am testing out different tactics. Will definitely have to try some of these. Currently enjoying building full fleets, jumping into a system, sitting at the edge of the system with my Interdictor on, and letting them come to me. I'll admit that I'm a better naval RTS player than I am army RTS.
Get better, Eck! Sorry to hear about the toe! Post whatever you want, it's your channel! Gameplay is also really cool, especially since it's woven with lore

This is actually very helpful, I usually just drop in my heaviest ship with all my fighters and get behind my enemy then drop the rest of my fleet around them (written before the intro finished)
A favorite strategy of mine is getting a small fleet of ships with fighters and bombers then sending them in tqke out a few ships them retreat and rinse repeat till victory
Distract, lure out, surround, destroy - thats my favorite tactic for Thrawn. It's even work with humans some times. Too bad that all ships already in battle during defences.
@Eckharts, this is why you wear steel toed boots when you are carry something heavy or at least rotate your toes to your sides so that whatever you are holding, drops between your toes.
Sort of reminds me of the decipher CCG. Since the Deploy phase came before the battle phase and move phase happened after the battle phase it was quicker to deploy to a battle than it is to move to a battle.
I always ran Lancers since they did a decent job of negating enemy fighters. Without knowing Thrawn's strat on them, I ran 1 per ISD just because it made common sense to have 1 fighter screening vessel per large ship. I'd probably put 4 on a really large SSD. They're cheap and do their job really well. Just have to make sure to have them covered from being killed by cruisers and destroyer sized vessels.
My favorite mod is EAW remake and my favorite tactic I use for that is essentially blitzkrieg, I would have massive fleets protect key planets while I take smaller fleets to lure enemy fleets away from the planets Im intending to attack. Those tactics are good with offense but I suck at defense because I leave the planets that aren’t on the frontline completely underdefended. When that happens I send 3 other fleets to 3 other planets to trick the ai into going back and defending them than I’ll send a fleet back to the planet I lost and retake it while in turn taking 2 or 3 other planets behind it
Yes a week full of Eckhart videos uninterrupted by everyday life now his next big hurdle the trip from the computer chair to the bathroom God have mercy on him
#AskEck I was wondering about the topic about "The Force Dictates whoever wins or loses". What do you think if one of the new Directors for a Star Wars movie introduced a new Force Power that Reprograms "Force Dictates the Balance Who Wins or Loses" that was been discovered by a new character who isn't from the Jedi Order, the Darkside Villain managed to crack it open and used it on a protagonist or someone like Rey for example? (Like have the villain used that force power and reprogramming the factors into dictating Rey is going to lose every battle she fought when she's a Jedi Master after the fall of the First Order happened) By the way, I hope your toe gets better soon.
I think that’s what Palpatine did in the late Republic era. The Jedi felt that the dark side was in ascendancy and their powers were diminishing. I think a big part of how effective that was had to do with tricking the Jedi into being complicit in their own fall, like the immoral use of slave clones for the war.
Philip Church I don't think Palpatine used that similar force powers that reprogramming dictating the Jedi to lose. Palpatine was manipulating the entire Republic so that the time has come to use the mind chips on the clones to activate Order 66 to kill the Jedi Order since that was his plan to gain an Empire.
I made my own Thrawn strat: Use a victory class as a distraction When the enemy is distracted, have him and 4 ISD's (Or even an SSD and a few escort ISDs) spawn in behind them, and waste em. After that, work on the base
I've had it for about 6 months and have played it for like 3 hours on a galactic conquest. The conquest is a stalemate. I a the empire and am losing on easy. I am trash
Beginning of the video I was about to be all like, "Hey, wait a minute! What are those Klingon birds of prey doing, lurking back there?!" They're Hapes Nova Battlecruisers. Alas for my briefly envisioned franchise crossover...
My tactics are superior. It’s called bring nothing but Star Destroyers and Interdictors. If possible a super star destroyer. But mainly it involves me bringing one ship in to scout out the area before jumping in on top of them all at once raining fire on my enemies targeting threats first.
Out of curiosity, how would one defeat Thrawn in both a battle and a campaign, both in the position of the Rebel Alliance (limited resources, but high mobility) and the New Republic (lots of resources, but low mobility)?
The only faction that I have played that has boarding shuttles is when Thrawn takes over the empire. I normally play Greater Malrood but they do not have these, am I missing something???
Well, the truth is.... No matter how good you are at strategies that you planned from a command ship, it all comes down to piloting skills, and how good you are at completing your objective. Because... well, bombing runs.
See now if i could customise hardpoints i would make an anti starfighter isd to just hold an area around my and within my fleet. I took a few pages from napoleon and i make my fleet into a bunch of smaller fleets to devide and conquer. I am big on 3 pronged attacks but when i need to break through the lines i do something unorthodox i basicly make a reverse wedge with my frigates to combine and intersect my firing archs to just melt things that get too close and ill put a cruiser or 2 in that reverse wedge for asf capabilitys. I split my fighters and bombers
Nothing quite like dropping in an ISD right next to an MC80 and unleashing a point blank broadside. That alone is worth the purchase price of the game.
