HI Brian, I think this is actually the best video you have ever done. I'm not just saying that. The way you explained things on the white board was awesome. Doing this technique really helps me and I'm sure others to understand EXACTLY what is going on. It really helped to solidify all of the other information you have been telling us up to this point. You have talked about different types of guns numerous times but you never explained exactly how and why the different opening sizes will impact the paint. The same goes for the explanation on reducer. I would suggest incorporating some white board explanations into all of your videos if possible. I'm not ready to paint my car but have been watching your videos for over a year now. My car is currently in bare metal and hopefully in the next 3 months I will have it in primer!
Slower (reducer/activator) is faster. I like to adjust the pressure at the wall to with in 10lbs of where I like to spray. Open the gauge up all the way and make small adjustments there. Really good tutorial Brian!
Brian, I love your videos and how well you show and explain the way and skills you need to paint properly and professionally for us who like to learn how to do it ourselves, that been said, I’d like to paint my dad’s Mustang in a matte or satin black color and it would be nice if you consider to make a video on how to get that type of finish done correctly with the amazing results you always come up with. This is a very helpfull video for beginners, but i have a question: i read a manual about paint defects that a cause of solvent pop can be due to the use of crappy sprayguns( so large dropplets full of solvent and layers more thick) and i also read that some solvents are released during atomization (if you use a professional spraygun). Is it correct?
I got one for you, I'm sure they're are plenty of others in my same situation. Show us what types of filter, moister traps used in shop and how to set one up at home. I have an 80 gallon upright that I bought a year ago but realized afterwards that the cheap home depot filter, moisture, oil traps don't even work and spray atrocious amounts of fluid. I went to a body shop and asked what they used, they showed me some ridiculous set up that cost thousands. Needless to say.......
Brian, is this theory correct? If you want to spray finer droplets, for a flatter finish, does increasing the air pressure on the regulator do this????? But does this alone cause other potential issues you must control? In my head, it does. These issues being does it also increase the rate of paint in the pot spraying out as well?? Meaning it may hit the panel too fast which means too much overspray so you turn down the fluid dial to even that out, to reduce overspray and the speed of the paint shooting out the tip? I want a finer mist without the spray being too fast and turbulent and overspray-ey. Obviously also without crossing the line of making it spray dry and rough as well.
Look at the TDS (Technical Data Sheet) or can for the clear you're using, it should tell you. If it says flash time between coats is between 5-10 min. at a certain temperature , then I would say around 10 min. would be maximum time for waiting.
@@davidg5704 Thanks for the reply. We thought at first the booth was getting too hot too fast and adjusted the bake cycle cause it was going upwards of 100 degrees outside. We figured out our painter was over reducing stuff like crazy to attempt a slicker job. We looked at the history and they were going 20+ grams over. Explains the constant runs too. But all resolved and the results are coming out great.
Is that mazda 46g? I hate this color because most cars that were previously repaired have been almost completely resprayed making it hard to match. Played hell with one 2 weeks ago
Another question, if you have a daily driver and the clear coat is starting to go but hasn’t reached the base, can you just sand the clear with 600 or 800 and reclear the car??
No, you'll need to feather out the failing clear which in turn will still be visible and you can burn through the base coat during the process. As to your other comment you'll generally need a few guns, but I'd say if you want only 1 gun order a master elite PRO-88 on Amazon. It comes with 3 fluid nozzles a 1.3 (base coat) 1.4 (clear coat) and 1.8 (primer). Brian has a video on the PRO-44 gun and it did well, the PRO-88 I recommended is supposed to be better

I use a copper line wound in a coil that sits in a bucket of water before my reserve tank never have any moisture issues
I'll post a video of my set up and see what suggestions I can get
Your videos are very helpful , thanks
Nice detail info while u paint 🔥🔥
I learned alot bro.
Well put together video
Thanks for the videos.
What is the best clear coat gun for around $500 or less.
Sent a paint question at paint society website regarding painting over a graphic. Also a group request on FB. My profile shows a 1970 Mustang.
BEST PAINTER ALL EVER
Would love to see you paint a car with the smallest tip. 0.8mm? 1.0mm?
Small tips are usually for pressure pot guns. I got a Prolite with a 1.1 nozzle which works great for spot repair,
Nice video nice job what is the name of the clear you spray looks really nice
when painting flexible things like the bumpers, do you use. 1. adhesion promoter 2. flex agent ??
What would be the maximum time for waiting between coats (waiting too long)
Look at the TDS (Technical Data Sheet) or can for the clear you're using, it should tell you. If it says flash time between coats is between 5-10 min. at a certain temperature , then I would say around 10 min. would be maximum time for waiting.
Should I use slow reducers when I paint cars in the Philippines because it's warm there all the time let me know thanks
Can you make a video on solvent pop? Is it possible to completely avoid it other than choosing what time of the day you spray?
I would let it flash longer if it's cooler to be sure solvent has escaped imo.
On this same lph 400 , would you set the settings the same way for base metallics? 20-23 psi , and fluid+ fan ?
What is your go to gun and gun tip for HS clear, with out over reducing?
Thanks so much for sharing that information
Hello, I'm Vietnamese. I'm learning to paint cars at a vocational school and I've watched a lot of your videos. I see the spray gun you use has many types. Can you advise me what is the best gun to produce the best and best finished product that you are using? and how can i buy it. Thank you.
