Paint Society I was watching you do clear on the red Honda S2000 and you walk your passes very clean. I’ve seen a lot of painters myself included that aren’t confident enough to do that more than two panels, really impressive. I’m self taught and have a pretty unorthodox spray style, you’d probably get a good laugh if you watch one of my vids doing clear, I get a nice result though. Really appreciate the content man 👍

Loving this channel, at age 61 I’m learning how to paint so that I don’t have to wait until the local paint shop has a free space for my cars that I sell. Spot on brother I'm 67 years old and every time I paint something it's like my first time because I never had any training. I painted a lot of stuff in my life and made it work sometimes I screwed up and I've done so well I had to do it again. But every time I do it I'm anxious and not very confident but after watching these kind of quality videos when I get into it I'm good

Just came across this video. At last there is someone who clearly explains the mystery of setting the gun and pressure in a no nonsense easy to learn manner. Thank you for sharing. I am a guitar builder and only spray occasionally and struggled getting consistent quality because of gaps in setting up equipment. This is such a huge help to me to get a quick set up and go each time I need to finish a build. So glad I came across your channel and look forward to watching all the rest of your vids. Great video, Brian! I had such a terrible time with orange peel when I cleared my freshly painted pickup bed that I gave up on it. I bought a new truck and the old one is still sitting in my yard incomplete (3+ years). You explained about the droplet size so well that I am inspired to start working on it again! Thank you!
Great video. My problem is flat horizontal surfaces that are hard to reach. The droplets that are caused from not being perpendicular to the gun (overspray) "contaminate" those areas giving a pebbled finish

I've had the problem of having to cut too much before buff which leads to cutting thru the paint. Never seen a better explanation of the gun adjustment. I believe this video is awesome and will help me in my future jobs. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
You have no idea how good this video has been for me. I have been trying to paint some parts for a Motorbike I am restoring, but they were coming out really horrible. I watched this video over and over again and made notes. I stripped off all the paint of the some trial pieces, and painted excactly as you said. And the results were stunning. And this is me with a small compressor an Iwata LPHV spray gun and no skill. If I lived close to you I would come over with a car full of beer as a thank you
Your a great instructor and this was very helpful. I paint guitars and the most challenging part by far is getting the clearcoat right. To date I've used 2k Max and Car-Rep 2k (raddle cans) and they work great but they are both expensive and lack a bit of control over the clearcoat experience. So I'm heading into new territory by doing the clear coat by a gun. Thanks again and I sub'd as well
Love these videos! I painted my first panel of my life today (after backing my wife’s car into another vehicle😩😩😩). These videos have been so helpful. I’m now planning on doing more car projects. It turned out great. And what would have cost me $500 at the body shop I did myself for about $350(including the $200 Kiwami gun you recommended). Thx!!
I bought the same gun and use it for sealer, base, and clear. I'll end up getting a different one at some point for the sealer and/or primer, but so far it's worked out great! I, like you, also did my first painting project this past weekend because of these videos!

Bryan change my life , i was started watching all of his video back when covid 1st hits everyone staying at home . I buy a project cAr and did a body work on it but it was so ugly then i go youtube and thats the beginning of my journey , iam happy on doing body work so i fixed some neighbours and friends cars for free just because i want it to learn . Now i have 2 shop here in alberta canada and that because of this guy. Thankyou bryan i hope someday i will meet u in person i owe you everything and i will not forget that . I was painting over 20 years ago. Did a job for a friend thinking yea I got this. Turns out. It’s all different now. I wished I had watched this and a couple others before the disaster. Lesson for those how read this. You can watch this guy teach for hours and it’s time well spent because fixing mistakes is really really time consuming.

All over paint job . I all seal the whole car first.The sealer lays down real smooth. How do I get the base coat to lay down smooth,with no dry spray.I always use slow reducer in in base coat. Thank you I love your pant show.
Man, my man!! Brian thank you for this video. You saved my project. I used a Husky gun for clear and ended up with nasty finish. My brother and I sanded down the whole bed in 9 hrs just to level out the clear!! Used your advice to adjust the gun and got great results.
I haven’t sprayed cars for 25 years in a body shop , this brings it all back ! Done a respray on a Ford galaxie fairlane On a drive way and loads of aerosols jobs since ! Spraying in a spray booth is so much easier than working in a barn , shed etc ... very hard to get the same results if you don’t have a spray booth !

I learned here that when I turn the pressure up, I wasn't putting enough fluid with it, so I always had orange peel from low pressure, or very little orange peel, but a dry looking finish with higher pressure. I mainly refinish guitars, but the same applies. I just put on a coat with more fluid and more pressure, and it flowed out beautifully. I was always getting runs with the fluid up, then I realized I needed to speed the gun up after watching your technique. Thank you!!!

Definitely like your videos! I never painted cars in my life. So I came across your videos and have subscribed since then. I bought 3 guns from Amazon, about $50 each. Primer, paint and clear gun. I have a new tailgate for my Silverado that came EDP coated. Used the red scotch brite to rough it up. Sprayed it with the glass cleaner first then the wax/grease remover. Tack cloth after that. Sprayed the primer and it looked good, surprised myself. 2 coats of that and let it dry for 5 days, then lightly sanded with 600 grit. Then mixed the red paint to instructions on the can and sprayed that, which to me looked good, no runs !! 🙌🏻 After that waited about 45 minutes for the clear. I didn’t sand it, I just ran a tack cloth over it. Now the instructions on clear said air pressure at 10psi.which I did. I adjusted my gun like you do and sprayed on a piece of cardboard, I thought looked ok. So i started to spray the tailgate and was getting all these little microspots, almost like the panel wasn’t cleaned completely. So I adjusted the air regulator to 20psi, little better I believe but looks like the “orange peel “ effect. Not sure now if I up the regulator to 30psi and try again or just leave it. I did the inside first, kinda like a test piece, which glad I did. Wish I could post some pictures of it.. Thanks for all your knowledge and tips.!!
10 psi at the air cap not at the gauge, I really wish they would leave that out of the instructions because that really confuses folks, adjust to around 20 to 26 psi and see how that works and completely ignore that 10 psi confusing instruction

Hey Brian my name is Kris I found your video helpful I live in new Jersey and have been a painter for 8 years and I was taught by and old school guy. Now I have my second job at a shop on my own and have been getting nervous about mistakes for some reason. And that has not worked to my benefit. But the manager at my new shop worked with me and said the same thing you did it's just paint don't over think it. It it helped immensely. I guess he watches you also

Dude! You definitely nailed it! I'm restoring an 81 El Camino. Metal work, body work is all done not perfect, and then paint looks like crap! Listening to you for 15 minutes & now I'm a professional! I have followed & watched your channel for a while. Finally attempted to repaint my tailgate. All high flow fittings, practiced before I did a thing. Primer & Base laid down beautiful. Was very happy/impressed with myself. However, the clear… lmao… I had too much orange peel! I tried to wet sand & buff. Still not happy. I just re-watched this video.. & ya… I Love it! “Don’t Over Think It… It’s Just Paint!” I’ll re apply everything u have said, & just re do it!! Thank u for the motivation & inspiration to do this myself! You are AMAZING. I have a 98’ K1500 appraised at 30k & just want to be able to do this myself. Failure is NOT an option!
Duplicolor gloss clear coat is trash in case anybody didn't know. 7 cans on my car and matte finish. I been watching videos, didn't think of looking up duplicolor til last night. I learned a lesson!
I’ve had a Sherwin Williams guy tell and show me he likes a wet first coat or “spray it how you want it to look” but I told him that doesn’t work for everyone and clear and gun and showed him what does work with everything is a mist first coat of clear. I go way high on PSI and I like to set my material feed in, I don’t run it wide open because I like to stay as consistent as possible. I also make sure to run the fan width past the panel to keep the clear wet on the edges. I learned to not get too heavy on rails or edges or I would be sanding and polishing saggy or built up clear later.
This video helped me dial in my spray gun settings and improve my clear coats by 90%. A little more practice and orange peel will be a thing of the past. Thanks!!!

I watch allot of your videos and like them all. I tried my first blend and clear coat yesterday on a friends Silverado rust repair we did. Well it turned out good because of your help. I did orange peel the first side because I shot it scared. 😅 By this I mean I turned your initial settings in by 1 turn too much. The gun is a mid level Harbor Freight and it felt like the knobs would fall off if I didn’t turn them in more. So on the second side I backed them out and turned up the pressure to 30. Slowed down and bam smooth clear coat. It looks good he’s happy shot it in the driveway and it all worked out. Thank you!!!!!!

Can you just super satin clear over raw sandblast on wheels for a raw real rough antique tough kinda look?
Thanks. I know why I’m getting orange peel now. Lots less wet sanding with 1000 and buffing in my future. I had my air pressure too low.

I was painting over 20 years ago. Did a job for a friend thinking yea I got this. Turns out. It’s all different now. I wished I had watched this and a couple others before the disaster. Lesson for those how read this. You can watch this guy teach for hours and it’s time well spent because fixing mistakes is really really time consuming.

All over paint job . I all seal the whole car first.The sealer lays down real smooth. How do I get the base coat to lay down smooth,with no dry spray.I always use slow reducer in in base coat. Thank you I love your pant show.

Man, my man!! Brian thank you for this video. You saved my project. I used a Husky gun for clear and ended up with nasty finish. My brother and I sanded down the whole bed in 9 hrs just to level out the clear!! Used your advice to adjust the gun and got great results.

Spraying in a spray booth is so much easier than working in a barn , shed etc ...
very hard to get the same results if you don’t have a spray booth !

ive been holding off wanting to start painting and now im even taking note from your video, love how detailed you are in every explanation.
I learned here that when I turn the pressure up, I wasn't putting enough fluid with it, so I always had orange peel from low pressure, or very little orange peel, but a dry looking finish with higher pressure. I mainly refinish guitars, but the same applies. I just put on a coat with more fluid and more pressure, and it flowed out beautifully. I was always getting runs with the fluid up, then I realized I needed to speed the gun up after watching your technique. Thank you!!!

Definitely like your videos! I never painted cars in my life. So I came across your videos and have subscribed since then. I bought 3 guns from Amazon, about $50 each. Primer, paint and clear gun. I have a new tailgate for my Silverado that came EDP coated. Used the red scotch brite to rough it up. Sprayed it with the glass cleaner first then the wax/grease remover. Tack cloth after that. Sprayed the primer and it looked good, surprised myself. 2 coats of that and let it dry for 5 days, then lightly sanded with 600 grit. Then mixed the red paint to instructions on the can and sprayed that, which to me looked good, no runs !! 🙌🏻
After that waited about 45 minutes for the clear. I didn’t sand it, I just ran a tack cloth over it. Now the instructions on clear said air pressure at 10psi.which I did. I adjusted my gun like you do and sprayed on a piece of cardboard, I thought looked ok. So i started to spray the tailgate and was getting all these little microspots, almost like the panel wasn’t cleaned completely. So I adjusted the air regulator to 20psi, little better I believe but looks like the “orange peel “ effect. Not sure now if I up the regulator to 30psi and try again or just leave it. I did the inside first, kinda like a test piece, which glad I did. Wish I could post some pictures of it..

10 psi at the air cap not at the gauge, I really wish they would leave that out of the instructions because that really confuses folks, adjust to around 20 to 26 psi and see how that works and completely ignore that 10 psi confusing instruction
@@PaintSociety so as I’m spraying the gun at full flow, the gauge should read 26psi, when I release the trigger it goes back up?

Hey Brian my name is Kris I found your video helpful I live in new Jersey and have been a painter for 8 years and I was taught by and old school guy. Now I have my second job at a shop on my own and have been getting nervous about mistakes for some reason. And that has not worked to my benefit. But the manager at my new shop worked with me and said the same thing you did it's just paint don't over think it. It it helped immensely. I guess he watches you also

Just watched this video again. Like I did nine months ago. Reminds me to watch my edges and tighten my overlap a bit. I suspect the two hoods I have to spray will come out better thanks to Brian and Paint Society. 👍
I have followed & watched your channel for a while. Finally attempted to repaint my tailgate. All high flow fittings, practiced before I did a thing. Primer & Base laid down beautiful. Was very happy/impressed with myself. However, the clear… lmao… I had too much orange peel! I tried to wet sand & buff. Still not happy. I just re-watched this video.. & ya… I Love it! “Don’t Over Think It… It’s Just Paint!”
I’ll re apply everything u have said, & just re do it!! Thank u for the motivation & inspiration to do this myself! You are AMAZING. I have a 98’ K1500 appraised at 30k & just want to be able to do this myself. Failure is NOT an option!

Duplicolor gloss clear coat is trash in case anybody didn't know. 7 cans on my car and matte finish. I been watching videos, didn't think of looking up duplicolor til last night. I learned a lesson!

I watched this and it helped me so much , painted my truck with Nason products and a 45 dollar hvlp gun and came out awesome.
I’ve had a Sherwin Williams guy tell and show me he likes a wet first coat or “spray it how you want it to look” but I told him that doesn’t work for everyone and clear and gun and showed him what does work with everything is a mist first coat of clear. I go way high on PSI and I like to set my material feed in, I don’t run it wide open because I like to stay as consistent as possible. I also make sure to run the fan width past the panel to keep the clear wet on the edges. I learned to not get too heavy on rails or edges or I would be sanding and polishing saggy or built up clear later.

I watch allot of your videos and like them all. I tried my first blend and clear coat yesterday on a friends Silverado rust repair we did. Well it turned out good because of your help. I did orange peel the first side because I shot it scared. 😅 By this I mean I turned your initial settings in by 1 turn too much. The gun is a mid level Harbor Freight and it felt like the knobs would fall off if I didn’t turn them in more. So on the second side I backed them out and turned up the pressure to 30. Slowed down and bam smooth clear coat. It looks good he’s happy shot it in the driveway and it all worked out. Thank you!!!!!!
