You lost me at 4060ti, the FP32 performance of a 4060ti is 114% greater than the PS5's GPU. The 5700xt on the other hand only has a 5% difference in comparison to the PS5 and would be a better match since the 4060ti way outperforms the PS5 GPU.

Raw performance wise I completely agree. The thing about PC vs console configurations is the optimization. Devs. only have to optimize for one set of hardware with console, but on PC there are so many different configurations.
Higher performance hardware can be seen as an offset to the difference in optimization.

@@630majic I completely agree with you, but that raw power being far more than that of a console, it allows for higher settings, fps, and resolutions. It's just a poor comparison in my opinion. The optimization across the board has been lacking too, regardless of it being on PC or console

Not as cheap as where I live, Guernsey, we get European prices, minus VAT, I got a brand new 4090 for £1400 while the rest of Britain paid £2000. That's why we are classed as a tax haven. anything on Amazon removes 25% of the price if shipped to Guernsey.

I think you guys don't know what optimization means. There is no "PC specific" optimization that needs to be done. PCs have a bigger footprint running in the background. It's called your operating system. There's also things like the hard drive. If your HDD is causing a bottle neck, upgrading to an NVMe drive will fix that. No amount of optimizations will fix that. I just got a 2TB NVMe for $150. A 500GB was $500, just 5 years ago. You have to understand that PCs primary focus isn't gaming, so you have to consider the overhead, (or disregard it, depending on how you look at it.)...
Ultimately, you could just Optimize your spending budget. Built my PC in 2017 and it still outperforms PS5.

Will they ever match a custom-built PC in performance and power? No, but I'm ok with that. As mentioned in this comment section several times, the primary reason I like consoles is that the games I play are designed to play on them. When I was building gaming PCs, I was always concerned with my hardware being good enough to play games. That and upgrading became really expensive.

And you have something called TRUE 4K and not upscaled which is not smt to flex about on ps5, you can just do it on pc too ... And you can upgrade your pc when the next console comes back or even later since you always have settings and mods to help you play almost everything with a potato (i have a steamdeck and although it doesnt have good specs it can still run anything you throw at it 30fps min) people complaining for not playing a game because they are spoiled from other games eith better performance, you can always turn down settings to play it. started with PC when I was a teen, and I was a meticulous one. As an adult with responsibilities, I prefer consoles now for optimization, price, early releases, exclusives, and time. I remember going home from work and I would troubleshoot things like RDR2 because it kept crashing every 10 minutes or Death Stranding and its anti-aliasing issues, which I fixed, but with trial and error, searching for solutions, fiddling both in game and NVIDIA settings, searching solutions on Reddit or UA-cam. I'm through all that stress, and I'm enjoying my time with the PS5. Also allotting some money to different hobbies and time with the family. best decision I ever made.

You think Sony pay store prices for their components? They buy millions of these components, so they make deals with the providers (like AMD).. Not only that, but lifetime deals of say 8 years and tens of millions of components. Perhaps AMD lose money of the first 10 million, and only make a little on the next 10 million, but then they profit huge on the last tens of millions.
PC people simply don't understand the console market.. They think of it as a "different PC market", but it's not, everything is quite different. From the OS, to the machine purpose, to suppliers, to game development etc etc etc..

@@Xanatos0504 Sure. What I mean to say was only that most likely Sony pays a "lifetime" price for components, tens of millions of them. Not even regular production cost.
At least that's how it seems to me, and I'm guessing Xbox does the same, seeing how it is also priced below market.
Besides that, both initially, despite even that, sell their consoles at a loss.
Yeah, I don't think we get 4K and 60fps until next generation, also on PC, around that time. Anyways, by that time, Raytracing will have progressed ALOT too and become a viable technology.. Today it is just in its infancy, or just past it, somewhere.
Seeing how expensive it is (GPU/resource wise), perhaps even the next generation will be a compromise and a choice somehow. No doubt some will use it as an excuse to continue using the awful 30fps.
But well, perhaps I'm wrong.. But global raytracing should be possible by then, and so should say 120fps 4k.. I really hope 30fps will just die then, but I'm not too hopeful.

Because of the mass market adaptation of consoles and franchises that are exclusive to a given console (at least initially), many games are optimized to extract maximum performance from the respective console. This is similar in concept to an Apple computer having inferior components to a PC on paper but yet out-performing that PC in reality : there is a very tight coupling between software and hardware that much like Apple, consoles also enjoy.
This basically means it is very hard to compare "apples to apples" between PC and a given console just like it is hard to compare an Apple computer with a PC if you only look at the specs. Best way to compare I'd argue is to look at performance comparisons : analyze the resolution, frame rates, and approximate the graphical settings of games available on both PC and a given console and then figure out what it takes in terms of a PC that can achieve similar performance to the console with that given game.

Warranty is also much easier to obtain on a PS5. In Australia, you can get an in-store replacement. So no need to wait for a technician or yourself to check which component is at fault, you just have the whole unit replaced. Thankfully though, I've been lucky and have never once got a faulty PC component despite the fact I not only build multiple PCs for myself, but also for others as well. But that could be due to Australia's strict consumer standards.
Only problem I find with consoles, especially Sony is when they try launching them at $800+ AUD. Not only that, but they have a really bad launch lineup of games. It definitely makes it hard for consoles to be a year 1 or year 2 buy. $600 AUD is more reasonable as a consumer-friendly, high end console but even that will still limit buyers greatly unless you have a strong game lineup. Xbox and Switch have much more convincing pricing model.

Computer parts have longer lifespans than entire consoles. You also don't have to completely rebuild your PC to stay up to date, just a part here and there. The initial cost may be a little bit above consoles, but you save in the long run. After a few years you're replacing your entire console while a pc only needs to replace 1 or 2 parts, making it way cheaper to move to "next gen". Not to mention that people often forget about CONTROLLERS when it comes to console when you're considering the price. Controllers are about $80 a pop now and most people want at least 2 of them. So your $500 Ps5 is actually $660. Not to mention those controllers become obsolete with the next gen. Considering this along with everything else makes it obvious what wins in the long run.
The only game you listed for one platform in mind was TLOU because it was originally only for one platform. Everything else was released across all.
Elden Ring doesn't have PC issues and you cherry picked 2 other poor use cases. If you want to do that, look at Diablo 4 for consoles and all the stability and disconnect issues people have.

So every few years you gonna spend the equivalent or more of a whole console to keep the same level. No doubt consoles still represent better bang for your buck. But I'm still tempted to finally invest in a proper gaming rig again despite owning both ps5 and series x. It's just difficult for me to gauge at what price point do I need to hit to notice a significantly better gaming experience vs console. If I'm spending a few hundred more simply to match a ps5 experience that's using midrange parts, then surely I need to invest in a high end rig. For example so I can play starfield at 60fps at high/ultra high settings. I basically need something like a 4070ti minimum or 4080 don't I? That's easily a £1500 plus rig there. Probably worth doing for anyone who can splash that but that seems to be the reality if you want to game at noticeably better settings compared to console?

A pc similar to the ps5 would cost about $600, but getting an rx 7800xt or geforce equivalent (give and take) would be a big improvement, and for high fps, a 5800x3d would be a big step up for the cpu. The ps5 is like a ryzen 3700 and rx 6700, but with both underclocked, making it more like a ryzen 3600 and rx 6600xt. Upgrade those to a ryzen 5600x and an rx7800xt and you'll still be at $1000 or so. Really, the nice thing about the pc is you can use it for many other things, and when one part is outdated, you can upgrade just that one part and sell your old one. Or you can do what I do and just accumulate enough parts to build a spare pc lol. Buying the top end stuff is definitely super expensive, but maybe build something cheap for now, even if it's not as good as the ps5, and then see if you like it enough to invest more into it. Don't be afraid to put it together yourself. All the parts are made to go where they're supposed to without fail, built to long-established standards. The cpu only has one spot to go into, the gpu as well (use the top-most slot), same with an nvme, and power supply. Anyway, pc's are fun to tinker with, and easy to upgrade, so I recommend them. Lmk if you decide to do it and need a tutorial or some troubleshooting.

Don't forget to add in the yearly PSN cost for online access. Consoles generally have a 8-10 year lifespan so PSN which is now $80/yr you're adding in $640-$800 to the cost of that cheap console. Now you are in the $1,150-$1,300 pc range. You can build a pretty damn good pc for $1,300. Now factor in that with emulation that PC can play the games from near every console generation. I have games from 20 years ago on my steam account that I still play from time to time. While this is a semi accurate video it does not address the value per dollar advantage a PC has with the sheer amount of versatility a PC provides. I can use my xbox elite controller with my PC, or a PS5 controller, or I can use my VKB gladiator dual flight sticks for atmo flight and space sims that consoles could only dream about running.
And for the record, I have a PS4 and an Xbox series X neither of which have been turned on in well over a year and just collect dust now.
