Director confirmed that it will NOT be a shot-for-shot remake but a retelling with just a couple of key shot-for-shot scenes like the one in the teaser.
@@lloydpaikea7357 I remember there was a interview with Niko Parker and she said the best scene everyone will love is the romantic flight one. So trust that It will be in the film.
"I didn’t know about his statement, but I expected they might go for different scenes. Yes, it’s the same story, but there are some moments that remain unforgettable for us , the fans ( when toothless gave hiccup gesture of trust ) Imagine if they canceled the test flight sure people would mad for not including it in the movie
Most fans are definitely going to watch this, people who don't like animation are going to watch it and people who haven't seen the animated movies, are going to watch it. It will definitely make money.
Being a fan of the first animated film, I'm glad they managed to keep their adaptation stable and faithful in the face of Gerald Butler's imposing appearance as Stoick. And toothless, seriously, it is very well made and very pretty.
They are basing this off the original book whilst staying true to the animation adaptation. There was stuff from the original book that will be in the film that wasn’t in the animation. DeanDeBlois the original creator of the animation directed this and wanted to keep as much of the magic as possible.
Even if it WAS a shot-for-shot remake, which it isn't. There are people out there who just CAN'T connect with animated movies. One of my favorite reactors, Coy from Reel Rejects, has stated several times that try as he might, he just can't enjoy animation to the same level as he can live action, despite being the BIGGEST COMIC BOOK NERD I KNOW! 😂
People are complaining about it, saying, "If it's a shot-for-shot remake, why even bother remaking it?" Meanwhile, there’s Cinderella, The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and Mulan... To be fair, this is the first time DreamWorks is attempting a live-action remake-not Disney.and its looks amazing
When The lion king and Sonic tried to make "the realistic versions" People lost their minds and so, IMO, I appreciate that they kept the designs the same just photoo real textured.
I highly doubt the entire movie is going to be just a complete recreation of the animation. I think they did a shot for shot teaser trailer to catch the og fans of the series attention.
So theres was alot of fear that the dragons would become hype realistic. Yes you read that correctly. HYPER REALISM IS THE LAST thing you want in this live action yet they pulled it off by still making toothless the same. Why you ask? Because the entire immersion and emotional heft of How to Train Your Dragon is the humanity and emotive design of the creatures. You say aww, you laugh, you think its cute, you see its personality through its eyes and emotive face that resembles both a cat and a dog. Hyper realistic animals don't emote, hyper realistic animals will not give you that where essentially you would then destroy the foundational emotion crux of the story between toothless and hiccup. Hyper realistic animals will backfire tremendously case in point: THE LION KING. Now mind you when it comes to shot for shot yes i understand the sentiment why make it exactly the same: well its live action it means higher immersion. But however yes there should be something different. The orginal director is making this and hes quoted im not sure to say that hes adding higher stakes.
100% agreed on the "...but WHY?" Like, half of this film is going to be animated ANYWAY, so like... you're making a diet-coke animated-lite film? That already exists fully animated? That I can go and watch right now? Animation is the best medium for this story, it just IS. The only reason they're doing this is to cash in on nostalgia (from only 14 years ago?) and maybe catch a handful of people who think that animated shows are just for children, and that being "live action" makes a film inherently better somehow. I'm sure it will make money. But it's purely a cash grab. There's nothing creative or new being said here that justifies it, unless they're changing the story significantly, in which case why not make another animated sequel, instead of shoehorning live actors into a mostly animated move like it's "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" Honestly, would prefer to see more live-action films remade as animation, rather than this current trend of turning good animation into average live-action. Basically, if it's not broken, don't try and FIX it. Remakes very rarely feel justified to me.
Yes but they had to be careful because it had to be child friendly that's why they died down the scariest or not you will hear screaming in a nightmares
why? lemme tell you this... i didnt watch the original animated films... and i always thought the animation looked dated and not quite good so i didn't even give the story a chance. when i saw the trailer i shead a tear and i dont even know why this trailer was that good and it stands on its own as a live action. i was prepared to finally watch something that's been buzzing around all this time but looks like from the comments its a retelling not a shot to shot remake. the answer to why this movie exists is... this movie is for people like me. as big as you think the original movie is... it really is not. this caters to the newer audience that needs to experience the original story in the new updated way.
Didn't know this was happening, don't want this. Hollywood please just try original ideas again. New things can be great, I'm begging no more remakes. I'll take sequals even at least it's a new story.
I love Dragons, I love the animated trilogy, when they announced they were going to make a live action I got excited and when I saw this trailer I exploded!!! XD Necessary!? No... But if they are going to make them and they do it really cool, great! XD If it's shot by shot, it's cool! It's better than what Disney does! O___O
This is gonna sound like heresy, but personally I’d rather see a Spirited Away remake before a HTTYD remake. A live action Spirited Away would look way more visually interesting
If they do something the same, people complain, if they do something new, people complain. Literally a no-win situation. Why is everyone getting soooo pissy about this teaser and the movie being a 1:1 without actually looking into what the director has said he's going to do this time. 🤷♂
Criticisms about studios doing unnecessary live action reboots aside, the Toothless CGI looks good🐉 The first movie made almost half a Billion dollars on a $165 Million budget and the sequels made even more money on smaller budgets. This one has a summer release next year and it'll probably be a hit with its target audience.
The real question with this is: which of the dragons are they gonna make too goofy? (my guess is the fat one) and which character are they gonna raceswap for the sake of "diversity"? (my guess is Astrid)
why do y'all always assume characters and intentionally race swapped instead of casting the best actor for the role, astrids actress is mixed and that's fine. get a grip
In defense of Disney, the live action of Moana is happening due to the simple and pure egocentrism of Dwayne Johnson and his need to be in big projects, literally if you see the leaks of the recording it is just Dwayne Johnson with a wig and a muscle suit with tattoos, literally, in addition to the fact that he is the producer and financier of that film, all because his latest projects are mostly failures🤷🤷🤷🤷.
It's a teaser!!! Of course they are going to bring back us 20-40 years olds with the iconic shots, but they are getting my kids into it now. I also heard that they are going more by the books this time and the story won't be a copy and paste. That is what I heard from the producer, who made the original series, so I trust that. This was his life's goal and they gave him the keys. Let's ride!!!
They are basing this off the original book whilst staying true to the animation adaptation. There was stuff from the original book that will be in the film that wasn’t in the animation.
