I mean, in wake of recent technological advancements, we could probably genetically engineer dragon-like animals in the not _too_ distant future. It's certainly much more realistic than reviving the dinosaurs.

the director has stated that this is not a 1:1 adaptation while still keeping iconic moments he also said that the studio wanted to make this and if they had to he wanted to be in charge in order to do it right
Edit: he also said they are diving deeper into lore and mythology

I'm gonna say this. Disney has had years of making live-action remakes and most of them have fallen flat. Not only is this DreamWorks' first time venturing into something like this, but this is also a self-remake. With Dean DuBlois coming back to direct, this gives me a little hope that he can show how a live-action remake should be done. This can be an interesting experiment at the very least. Let’s hope that it’s worth a watch.🙂

    1. I reacted the exact same way you did to all of it.
    2. I heard they'd plan on this for a year and just kept checking on updates.
Gerard Butler reliving as Stoick again was the best news I've heard from it, Dean directing not only the animation but now the live action, and now the way Toothless looks (being the first look still) I try not to get hopes up but it's almost impossible since this is my childhood show.

I saw an Instagram comment from the director. He was addressing the Astrid casting controversy, but he did mention they weren't making a shot for shot remake, but kept a few important scenes in to honor the spirit of the original. And to be fair, HTTYD started as a book. Then following the films, expanded into specials & tv shows.

I am 62 and I can really enjoy animated films. I thought the original "Beauty and the Beast" deserved Best Picture at the Oscars. When my partner dragged me to "How to Train Your Dragon", I was not hopeful. I knew Dreamworks COULD produce a good one (Shrek) but this thing looked silly (on the surface). My NOW opinion? It is a NEARLY FLAWLESS MASTERPIECE! The story is SOOOOO well done that I really cannot find any faults in it. The animation (for the time) was superb, with the water, Toothless, and clouds being incredible! The music was emotional. This movie stole my heart. I even love the quirky song at the end credits!! The father/son relationship, the crush on the "hot girl", being a misfit in your own community (Hiccup was the very first and perhaps only character in any movie that I truly identified with) and the fact they didn't pull punches (like Hiccup loosing part of his leg, almost like a karmic debt being repaid since he broke Toothless' tail!). Even how HIccup "learned" how to talk to dragons was very slick! Now on to the trailer - I have a couple of concerns - A) How can you improve a masterpiece? B) Toothless looks almost animated and C) From the trailer, it seems they are doing a scene by scene direct recreation, sooooo? Now I may be wrong because I had heard that there were some story changes. And I will no doubt still watch it (how can you not?) but I will go in with some preconcieved misgivings......

I'm conflicted...On one side, i wouldn't mind a frame for frame recreation for those that just don't watch animated stuff b/c they think its for kids, so they can experience it. But I would want new elements for myself so there is a reason for me to go see it.

    • @worldbuildingfilms507
      @worldbuildingfilms507  Місяць тому +4

I fully agree and understand your sentiment that adults underestimate animation, so this could open a door for them (even if animation should be respected just as much). WITH THAT SAID… if what we get is basically exactly the same as the original, that’s eons ahead of what all other live action remakes gave us so far. Between a stale chip that at least still has some flavour, and actual dirt, I will happily take the chip. Hollywood needs to learn the basics first apparently, so might as well go with this route. IF it is indeed just the original and that’s it, of course. We’ll just have to wait and see if they’re pulling a fast one on us or not.

This is how I did my works series 💖🐾💛🐾🧡🐾
    1) animal characters in the first two have evolved humanoid appereance and human like intelligence and sapiance, but in the other works have evolved human like intelligence, while still having zoomorphic appearance
    2) all of the animal characters are small and cute (all of the animal characters are the same size as each other (all of them are 31.75 cm tall), plus all of them have large anime eyes and human like facial expressiveness, the only thing that differentiates them is their animal species, as there are both well known species and lesser known species, plus there are more than just one member of the species)
    3) all of the girl characters have the same extreme hourglass figure as each other and the exact same cup size as each (all of the girls have 35-25-35 bust-waist-hip ratio and the C cup size, the only things that differentiate them are hair colors, eye colors, skin colors, hairstyles and clothings)
    4) all of the boy characters have the same body type as each other (all of the boys have 35-25-24 bust-waist-hip ratio and lean athletic build with medium sized defined muscles, the only things that differentiate them are hair colors, eye colors, skin colors, hairstyles and clothings)
    5) all of the characters that are animalistic deities in the original versions of their stories are now just as humanoid as the other characters (the only things hinting at their animal inspiration are their hairstyles that look like attributes of animals they are based on, for example, Bastet has buns that look like cat ears and a braid that looks like a cat tail)
    My works:
    Wendy's School Years (furry webcomic)
The Everyday Life Of Tina The Tiger (furry webcomic)
Puppy In My Pocket Adventures In Pocketville
    Momotaro
    Journey To The West
    The Three Musketiers
    Sword In The Stone
    Leilani And Pele's Hair
    Jason And The Argonauts
    Wurrunna
    Little Red Riding Hood
    Diego And The Charcoal Cat
    Quetzalcoatl
    Bastet
    Anansi
    Vasilisa The Magical
    Glooscap
    Terror Of Gevaudan
    Killer Phantom Kangaroo Of Kentucky
    Baatar And The Death Worm
    Loch Ness Mystery
    Ramayana
In Wendy's School Years, the main characters is a muscular bully whippet girl named Wendy who is sweet and friendly towards everybody, but the others see her as just a monster, freak of nature or guy with boobs (she is based on the real bully whippet named Wendy), then she meets a slim and curvy hourglassy whippet girl named Stephanie and a slim and curvy hourglassy tortie cat girl named Venus, who help her accept herself the way she is, but a slim and curvy hourglassy fox girl named Kaio bullies Wendy and does everything just to hurt her reputation to make herself more popular, later on, Roger the buff kangaroo and Willy the buff orca betray their mistress Kaio to join Wendy in the uprising against her, but during the fight, Roger the kangaroo died and Wendy gets upset both because of his death and Kaio still insulting her, but Wendy accepts her muscles and strenght and starts to love them, plus she also accepts that her friend is dead, but his spirit is inside her, Wendy defeats Kaio, but Kaio, as always, swears her vengence, later on, Moo Deng the baby pygmy hippopotamus, Spinach the gray tabby kitten and Chickpea the tuxedo kitten form their Wendy fanclub and support her in self acceptance, in the final fight, Wendy has finally accepted who she truly is, thanks to the people who supported her; Stephanie, Venus, Roger, Willy, Moo Deng, Spinach and Chickpea, thus she defeats Kaio using her super strenght, saving her school in the process, at the end, Wendy, Stephanie and Venus go to live in another city; Wendy becomes a fitness model, Stephanie becomes a fashion designer and Venus becomes a jewelry shop owner

I don't understand the discussion about Astrid. For me, Astrid was always a young brave fierce warrior who happened to be blonde. The color of her hair was never a defining feature, imho. I'm not sure about the hairstyle, but the color of her hair (and skin color as well) look perfectly fine for me. If Nico Parker can portray Astrid's traits well, that's more important to me than hair color or the fact that some of her ancestors weren't "white".

I know what you mean, and honestly (while admittedly they’re all supposed to be very “Viking”, aka Nordic, so it would make sense for all of them to look the part), my issue is moreso that Hollywood has done such a terrible job at representation that they’ve now created a sense that, if there is a swapped character, it’s more likely than not a sign that it was done for a cheap headline news, that they didn’t actually care about the representation part, and worst of all that’s where the quality and effort ended. It’s a scapegoat, which nowadays is a sign that there might be less quality. Which is something I absolutely don’t want to feel, but they literally have crafted this reaction out of the public. My hope is that, being Dreamworks and not Disney, MAYBE they actually will do a better job, but again, we’ll see

Tbh, if you have to pay the same director and writer just have them do a NEW movie, instead of the same one but targeted to the idiots who still think that animation is for kids and live action is always better. Truth is they only care about making easy money safely, instead of daring and experimenting. Recently Arcane producers told that Hollywood still doesn't understand why they did the show like that, and wow, look what the public prefers, who could have ever seen it coming.
Regarding you video, the setup is fine, for a reaction you don't really need too much, as long as you can show yourself and the trailer it's good enough!

    • @worldbuildingfilms507
      @worldbuildingfilms507  Місяць тому +1

Yeah it's a first time thing so I'll gradually improve over time and learn to get to the meat of things sooner 😅
As for the rest, I agree. But then again considering HOW bad things have been the past few years, I also can't expect them to change in a heartbeat. If they have to learn it will inevitably be a gradual process, and if this is at least the same as the original, then it's guaranteeing they will learn to let be what does work. Cause so far, they were dumb enough to even get rid of the good stuff (just look at the live action Mulan - it was perfect as it was, and they literally undid all the good things), so I can't expect them to do even original good things if they can't even handle their original IP's properly. Arcane is ABSOLUTELY a masterpiece but a very rare outliar in all of this, and we can't keep living in a world where quality is the exception, and not the norm. So, let's see how this goes. Cause if they do at least this right, it's ONE step in the right direction, if nothing else

The teaser i think legt out something, i didnt hear the normal toothless sounds, just growls but as uts just a teaser theres much more left to show. I really pray to universal studio to do it correct.

I understand where you’re coming from, and know what you mean. Representation is a fine thing to do, but it’s been gravely mishandled in Hollywood these years and it can get way out of hand for the wrong reasons, to the point that even I’m weary at Astrid’s casting merely due to the track record of the quality of these decisions, which has become a punchline for a reason. But with that said, that’s not enough for me to fall into the trap of bashing it entirely just for this one decision. I always stand behind the idea that it can be done and it can be done well. BUT therein lies the problem. IF it has to be done, then they have to work overtime and be really responsible with the decision, which 80% of the time they haven’t. But we’ll just wait and see. And if nothing else at least the actress is the one from The Last of Us show, right? And if so at least she seems to act pretty well, which at the end of the day is what matters. So, yeah, we’ll just have to wait and see

The thing is that it’s not hard to work hard on the design. They already had a template to start from. My concern will always be the writing and quality, cause if that’s not there, it will always be the a futile effort and a giant waste of time

Very true, but it’s exactly that which has suckered all of us into this trend of the live action remakes in general. Which, however, is starting to show as a failed business model, since there’s not the cultural stigma of them being bad. So yeah, they reap what they sow.

I have seen less the past year or two for a few reasons, but I know there actually are good ones here and there. I was referring more to the bigger ones, the “blockbusters” let’s say, which are my personal interest. Sci-fi, fantasy, animation, etc. Dramas are a different issue of course, they were just not given any advertisement at all. Other tragedy these days

They made astrid black or something, The astrid that they casted for the movie looks nothing like the one in the actual animated version the animated asteroid I'm guessing you all know what she looks like she has blonde hair blue eyes she's white cause their Vikings their Norse, But then this girl was like yeah I want to play asteroid she looks nothing like her nothing nothing nothing nothing she looks like she's some sort of mix of black And white and has dark brown eyes and dark brown hair and does not have the physique of astrid it's so stupid so stupid, Shame with hiccup I hate hiccup in the live action he looks so stupid

It's such a mixed bag of emotions. Cause I WANT to like the live action remakes. Of course I do. Why not relive the same emotions of masterpieces with a more updated coating? But the trust is long gone, and I fear it just won't pan out. Because as much as I trust the director, all directors are still under the thumb of the studios, and the studios are the ones who have to earn the public's trust back. Which is part of a much wider topic, but still
