Hi Sarah! Firstly, I want to say that I've been enjoying the podcast very much. Secondly, as someone who studied fashion design because it was my "passion", I'm glad you decided against pursuing higher education in fashion design because there really is not enough money in this field. As I'm getting older, I feel that it's more important to make enough money to support your life, interests, and hobbies outside of work. Maybe I've gotten more pessimistic about life but I'm okay to work a job that pays well but not necessarily interesting or cool. Having financial stability is so important.
I had almost the same high school to college reality awakening that almost got me to apply as a CS major. I kept hearing from friends and family that it was like the best way to make a lot of money and have a secure future even though I had absolutely no knowledge of coding or hardware at the time. Ultimately I chose to go the design route, and even though I didn't graduate on time (I also graduated high school during Covid), I'm glad that I just get to try what I want
needed to hear this today! i've been going through my own career changes lately (just quit my job) and have found myself so scared of losing it all so this video is extremely extremely relatable 🫶 thank you for putting out this podcast sarah (it's my favorite podcast ever!!)
omg congrats on quitting!! 🥹 the fear of losing it all is so real but just remember, you got this far & there’s so much more amazing things to come so u got dis! ❤️
I haven’t even realized how alone I felt in my lack of confidence in my self until hearing about James’ experience with it. I needed that so much at this time, I’ve been enjoying the podcast up until this point but now I’m a legit fan. I will tune in for “Juicy Jays” segment and looking forward to more wisdom. My vote is for Soju Sippers or Soju Shotties, like Sarah says the Soju Sippers grows on me every time I hear it.
i really resonate with james's take of the scarcity mindset being tied to one's belief in themselves -- my friend and i were actually talking about the same exact thing a few weeks ago. this video was amazing and the topics of conversation were very relatable/relevant! keep up the great work and don't feel pressured to pump out lower quality content to meet upload quotas
Really loved this episode and the topic that yall chose! This hits so close to home and I really like the hot take of ‘scarcity being bred from self doubt’ because limited self beliefs can cause you to become stagnant and complacent. But confidence and awareness really does help!! Anyways, great podcast and excited see how it continues to grow ❤
46:08 I didn't even know this was an actual therapy strategy- heck I thought I was nuts for doing it! I have a character like this, her name is Mina Unnie, and she's basically an older sister (because I'm the eldest sibling lol) who sets boundaries for me and protects me when I start to self-sabotage, or talk down to myself, etc. I legit thought I was seriously unwell for creating her in my mind, even though she's such a good regulation mechanism.
Great episode (as always). There’s always a lot to ponder in these, but I think a combination of what you and James both say is where I find myself landing. I think you both have to have the belief in yourself that you can figure it out and reach out of your comfort zone, while also being a positive force in the world along the way. It’s always a struggle for me as well, but I always think that 1) going for whatever lofty goal I have is better than not trying and 2) even if I fail, it won’t be THAT bad relatively. Great stuff to think about, appreciate you sharing!
yes!! i think it’s always so easy to fall into this fear of failure and lacking self conviction but i love the points you make for yourself about how trying is so important ❤️
For the napkin and AC thing we’re just saving the environment so I think we’re better at saving the world, I use to not like that either but I appreciate that we’re using less resources
To highlight your point in "crabs in a bucket", i'm pretty sure....if you put ants into said bucket instead, they would stand on each other's shoulders, make a ladder, and all get out of the bucket haha
I do think the whole "but when you're living paycheck to paycheck" is something you might need to work on. Check out Ramit Sethi but also that saying isn't going to support what you want to say as it's been shown many times that people who are earning all the way up to 100k a year will live paycheck to paycheck. If you want to say you guys were actually poor and low income then say that instead of paycheck to paycheck as the amount of people esspiecally on youtube who try to claim they came from a low income family but really you can tell from what they describe as there upbringing that they didn't.
happy friday everyone! ❤
