Hey, Tristan. Great video. To answer your question on why Mirabel didn’t get a power, she actually wasn’t meant to have a gift, because she was meant to one day replace Abuela (since she’s getting old) and be in charge of Casita and the family. This is also why the house broke down and Mirabel began the next miracle:))
There's actually a theory that she didn't get her powers because she wiped her hands on her dress after touching the candle and before touching the door. You can see it when it shows her gift ceremony
Both Mirabel and Abuela also are the only ones who directly talk/interact with Casita! That's their "power" :)
@@s.augustsmith1096 that would make more sense if she didn’t bring the casita back to life and it was her being the forefront of the front door. I think people just want to use that as a reason why but to me it’s clear that the writers of encanto made her have a gift it just needs people to really pay attention to every detail from beginning to end, not just a small section of the video.
@@s.augustsmith1096 Also, the writers confirmed that wasn’t the reason why she didn’t get her powers. Even if they didn’t confirm it, that theory doesn’t make sense because we don’t know if anybody else wiped their hands after touching the candle.
@@s.augustsmith1096 I think her wiping her hands is actually more of a tie to when Bruno catches her when she falls and says “Your hands are really sweaty” or something like that. Just a bit of something I noticed.
I saw a theory that the Abuela and her husband created the candle with his sacrifice and her prayer for a miracle, then the gift Mirabelle got was basically the best one, the embodiment of the candle. She will basically be the next Abuela and keep the family and house alive. So, that gift will keep getting passed down through family and not in the candle anymore.

Honestly, Dos Orguitas is an example how music can go beyond language. When watching the movie I had no idea what was being said but I felt it so deeply. When a song is sung with emotion it's the most beautiful thing💜💜 So I think a full video would be awesome!
Edit: I don't mean that Ive never looked at translation of the song I just mean I prefer to hear it in Spanish even though I'm not a Spanish speaker

Mirabel doesn’t get a power but her “power” has always existed. It was the same one Abuela had that allowed the Encanto to exist in the first place. Mirabel is basically her successor

Spanish is my first language and I live in a country where guerrillas have hurt so much our people. Dos Oruguitas had me bawling, not only because I understood the lyrics but because it tells a story of violence a lot of latinos can relate to. I think there's an english version if you are interested.

I bawled listening to dos orugitas it’s not even close to the situation of guerrillas but my family has delt with many of us getting seriously hurt or sick especially our father being in the military and getting stationed over seas without us listening to a song about growing beyond the pain you feel “ don’t hold on to tight both of you know it’s your time to grow fall apart and reunite wonders await you just on the other side fly till you find your way to tomorrow” was extremely impactful my Spanish is terrible but I remembered enough to understand in the theatre and my friend held my hand because she knew too how it felt to lose people ironically enough she is Columbian and her father couldn’t come to America so she hasn’t seen him in a long time I was at her wedding where her father couldn’t make it. The song deserves so much the lyrics were beautiful the melody was enchanting and the story tore at our hearts if that doesn’t get an Emmy I’ll eat my sock
Well I'm brazilian. I can understand most of what is said, certainly enough to ugly cry the whole song. And let's be honest, abuela's scream right there needed no explanation, no sound at all to be felt deep in the gut.
Mirabels power was taking over for the grandma ❤️❤️ she was the embodiment of the miracle. Which is also why her name was so similar to the word miracle.
Yeah I think that the names where really thought so they could match their personalities, Isabella (bella means beautiful in Spanish) Luisa(the name of a famous warrior), Dolores(pain- she's always seen in pain because of her power), Julieta, meaning youthful and love's child (as seen always being a caring mother). Same with their family name, madrigal means a conjunction of multiple voices sang together

@@joe_rival I think those 2 would go together since she can even hear Luisa's eye twitching at night, and we see her covering her ears when she's near loud sounds, she even talks smoothly so she doesn't hurt herself
What I learned is that its ok to tell someone when they are in the wrong, sometimes they don't even realize how bad the situation is until it gets slapped in their face.
i know dos oruguitas may not be the most popular song in the soundtrack but it is by FAR my favourite. even though it was sung in spanish, i somehow felt the emotions it conveyed. it really demonstrates the power of music!!

Unpopular opinion: it’s way better than We Don’t Talk About Bruno or other songs because of its lyrics and how Sebas sang it made it better.

Dos Oruguitas is literally my fave to belt out the chorus 😄❤
The English version is in the credits; it's just as poetic and beautiful as the Spanish version, imo. (I love both, by the way, even if my Spanish isn't good enough to translate in real time.)
I think the implication is that Mirabel is supposed to take over as head of the house for Abuela. If you notice at her ceremony, the candle burned bright and glowed when she stepped up. Her door just faded because she isn't supposed to have her own door - as the whole house is hers.
When Abuela passes away, Mirabel will be the one to take over as guardian of the family and the miracle flame. It makes sense thematically as well, as she is the one who gets each family member to open up and find their true selves as the movie progresses.
She is the one that holds the family together. So she doesn't really need a power. The family just mistook her ceremony at the time as to mean that something was wrong with her. Mirabel also has the closest relationship to the Casita, and throughout the story can constantly be seen communicating with it.

Dos Oruguitas (Two Caterpillars 🐛🐛) is actually about two lovers' self-growth by being apart. From the English translation of the song
"Ay, little caterpillars, don't hold on anymore
You must grow apart and come back
You'll carry on forwards
Miracles come, chrysalises come
You must leave and build your own future",
We can see that while they're happy together, they're not meant to be, and eventually they have to grow apart to be stronger. This can also be seen in,
"Ay, butterflies, don't hold on anymore
You must grow apart and come back

There are already miracles, chrysalises are breaking
You must fly, you have to find
Your own future". In another part of the song, they “fall apart”, “reunite”, and eventually find themselves “cocooned and waiting”, “afraid of change”. There is also a feeling of anxiety, considering that we human beings are often “afraid of change”.
In literature, butterflies symbolise rebirth and resurrection, and is a metaphor for transformation and hope. By being forced to be apart, Pedro's sacrifice brought a miracle (the candle powered up) and built Casita and the protective hills and yeeted the evil guys away. Therefore, Pedro's sacrifice is the butterfly that brought hope for a new beginning for Abuela and the Madrigal, as time for them to separate into their own respective ‘cocoons’ in the name of realizing the fullness of their individual destinies and be in charge of them, even if doing so tears them apart.
I've watched this movie six times already and I still end up sobbing from Dos Orguitas until the very end, like even dancing to the closing credits while crying. It's just that damn good.

I saw it for the first time at a friend's house but didn't payed too much attention to it. Saw it yesterday again and cried like a baby. Specially when Dos Oruguitas came up. Spanish is my first language and being able to know what the singer was trying to portrait during the song and seeing Abuelita go through that, it hit super hard.

When the all harmonize when Mirabel is about to open the door, I can’t help but sob when she says she sees all of herself. I watched the movie 4 times and cry each time. I’m such a baby 😂😂

'The Family Madrigal' takes the place of an overture in musical theatre, so it's not surprising to hear upcoming themes echoed in it. We also get a sting from 'We Don't Talk About Bruno'.

no other songs in the movie made me cry but dos oruguitas did , this song is so powerful mostly if you understand spanish (if tho I feel like isn't really necessary) , the scene together with the song tell an really sad and real reality , sebastian have an incredible voice and lin manuel did amazing on the writing

Adassa is an incredible singer, I agree. The canon reason we don't get much of Dolores' voice is because of her power - her voice can literally hurt her ears if she raises it too much, which is why she's quiet except during 'All Of You', when none of the family have their powers.

It's official. I'm going to cry every time the family comes together in chorus on "We see how bright you burn." It's just so beautiful and such a culmination.
Admittedly, Stephanie Beatriz did such a great job in All Of You. I mean, I shouldn't have expected any less, her vocal talent's just incredible. SHE'S incredible! No other perfect Mirabel ❤️💯

The ending song always makes me BAWL. From each character being able to do what the never could have before - Luisa relaxes, Isabella is messy, Dolores finally speaks up and grabs what she wants, Mirabel tells Antonio how the "constellations shift" talking about how he will be the new shining future..
and then when Antonio holds Mirabel's hand as she walks to the door, just like the start of the movie!! Plus the fact that the whole family FINALLY acknowledges how amazing Mirabel is even without a gift, and how HARD it must have been living without one (particularly her sisters who previously didn't really understand), and then her Mum and Dad sing "now see yourself in turn", because they've ALWAYS loved her as she was... God.

What's cool is that they put in melodies from every song heard in Encanto in this one, despite having different words you can hear some of the other songs melodies in this one. 2:12 where Isabela sings a part which sounds like her part in We Don't Talk About Bruno, 2:20 Luisa sings a part which sounds like Surface Pressure, and 2:28 Isabela and Dolores sings a part which sounds like What Else Can I do.

Something about Pacific Islander languages really hits me hard. I don't know what it is. I just love the languages and musical styles soooooo much!
And if you wanna try something REALLY different (read: weird and wacky!), I'd LOVE to see you react to the original _Pete's Dragon_ of 1977! It's SO crazy. It's really not for everyone. A lot of people wrote it off as a _Mary Poppins_ rip-off. But I loved it as a child and now as an adult, too. The remake was really interesting and was different enough that I ended up liking it much more than I thought I would. And it *does* have pretty music! But it's not a _musical_ like the original was. Helen Reddy frickin' DOMINATED that soundtrack, and all the songs, silly as many of them are, also manage to be catchy as hell! *Please consider it!*

I just realized that at the end when Casita comes back to life, the doors doesn't have anyone assigned to it. Disney stopped at that scene for a little for a reason. Does that mean encanto 2 and everyone gets a new power? Who knows hope we find out soon.

As someone who grew up in a dysfunctional family, it’s probably meant to symbolize that they’re finally able to be a real family unit instead of each of them hiding away in their private rooms. Now their doors are literally and metaphorically open to each other.
I think that’s also part of the reason Mirabel didn’t get her own room/door, and why she was the one who had the most connection to Casita itself. She was the most well-adjusted of all of them, and never wanted to shut herself away.

Mirabel's power is the same as Abuela's - the protector of the miracle.
This is supported by the fact that she is the only other person besides Abuela that Casita obeys (to an extent), as well as the fact that she is kind of the "support" holding the whole family together the entire movie.
Her dress has elements from every family member's power on it - weights for Luisa, flowers for Isabela, music notes for Dolores, clouds for Pepa, food for Julieta, hourglass for Bruno, animals for Antonio, and chameleon for Camilo.
Also in the end, she greets the newly built Casita, same as Abuela did in the beginning when it first appeared.
Finally, she has butterflies on her dress, which ties her in with Abuela's dress which also has butterflies on it, signifying that she is the one taking over for the protector of the miracle.
Not to mention that her name is one letter away from Miracle - Mirabel.
If you are going to do more Disney musicals, Moana is a good one. It was Lin Manuel's first collaboration with Disney. Encanto is his second :)

What I noticed is that each one of the family members when they sing(In All of You), the melody slightly sounds like the songs they sung. Just a neat little tid-bit I found.
Isabela\s voice really breaks the more 'princess' mold when she's singing with her sisters and feels free and I love it !!
