Can we talking about Bruno being a homie? Bruno resembles his father. He's selfless, loves his family enough to separate himself from them and 'sacrifice' himself if that means that his family would be happy. Just like his father did. He was described as Seven foot frame by Camilio (shape-shifting boy) probably because he was a kid and Bruno just seemed tall to him. Plus after years of hearing bad stories about it, it probably elevated that image to about seven foot, towering, creepy man.
Its actually very subtle: her gift is the same as Abuela Alma's. She's connected to the house and family itself. That's why she can communicate with it, and why the house doesn't come back alive until SHE puts the doorknob in. Or, in other words, her door was the house's FRONT door!
That was the song my family didn’t really like because they didn’t really vibe with the voice actress’ singing voice. Of course they got the message of the song but i felt kinda sad that they didn’t like it 😭
Surface Pressure was really the song that hit hard all those sons/daughters or our siblings who are carrying the heavy pressure for the family, and I pity them, really feel bad for them and they deserve the comfort that they need.
Also for Isabela’s case, I think you missed her point of being stuck perfect. She’s constantly being put into high expectations into being this perfect, elegant, golden child and she feels pressured to please the people around her. She sees Mirabel as someone who’s free of expectations while she has to keep up with high expectations. In the song, she’s exploring her identity and goes beyond this perfect facade and is finally being true to herself.
Doesn’t help either that Mirabel kinda gives her crap for being the perfect one until she realizes how much she actually gave up for the family. Makes it not easier. I loved seeing her character. I related to her as this is exactly why my sister and I can’t get along.
@@redhead0122 Yup! Isabela’s character and her relationship with her sister is so realistic to me and I immediately related to her as the eldest sister in my family. I’m really glad she’s not some shallow mean sister and is actually someone who has depth and realistic flaws and struggles.
yes! her relationship with mirabel is actually how jealous siblings end up when they grew up with someone like abuela and their family dynamic in general. her insulting mirabel and using mirabel's insecurities is shitty but that's the point. she was being shitty to mirabel just like how mirabel misunderstood her because she didn't have the courage to even understand her own self. she did realize what she was doing was wrong though and reconciled with mirabel (something a lot of siblings could only wish for)
Yes. But we gotta admit for most of this movie she was mean 🤣🤣 I was mean to my younger sister at times for the exact same reasons/pressures, I admitted it, & I have apologized for (most) of those incidents lol
I find it interesting when talking about Isabella’s engagement, Abuela goes on and on about how good it is for the casita and NEVER about how it would be good for HER.
This movie is very much for us Latinos, Abuela isn't a monster or evil in any way, she has real trauma from war, imperialism etc, the only way she copes is by making sure she never loses another loved one, and in typical fashion a lot of us would much rather fix our family than simply cut them off. She's a reflection of many of our parents and grandparents and I hate how so many people are reducing her to the "evil" character.
Thank you! I'm so tired of people treating abuela as this irredeemable villain, and ignoring all her trauma. Encanto is clearly about generational trauma, there is no villain, and somehow people didn't understand that.
@@anacarolina9071 yeah I see what your saying but my take on things I still didn’t like how fast they apologized to abuela but I did understand why abuela was the way she is
I love Abuela...I saw instantly that she wasn't a bad guy, she's just following a tradition and stand point she set up and trauma clouded the fact that her tradition and stands are toxic. Even when I saw Isabela, I didn't see her as annoying or an antagonist, because I've seen this trope before. She's a teen who's whole life is 'perfect' and trying so hard to keep that image. Hell, she wants approval so much that she's willing to lower her sister so that she can be more 'perfect'. They both needed to see that imperfections are perfect in life.
she was classed as the antagonist, she wasn't irredeemable but she didn't treat Mirabel well, with no actual excuse other than she's hurting family members because she doesn't want to lose them. forgivable but not forgettable.
@@bookwormer9130 She still tried her best, even if it wasn't enough, and at the end she chose the path of healing because she realized how badly she had hurt her family. That's how you end the cycle of generational trauma. It's a solid Latino family representation.
Ok but I love Isabela. Yes she’s a bit too harsh to her sister but I think it’s because she envy’s the fact that Mirabel can do so much wrong and be “imperfect” it not matter much whilst she has to always be perfect and be the family’s golden child. Which would include marrying someone you don’t want to marry for the sake of the family. I get that being perfect might seem like a dream but it just makes you miserable since you can’t truly be yourself and you can’t slip up once.
So true. And then on top off that to be hated for that. Because no one sees how much you are giving up for everybody else . Just so devestating to never be able to act out your feelings and test boundaries. I really appreciated them showing it in this movie and going deeper than the classical mean perfect girl. So relatable since this is exactly the conflict I have with my younger sister.
Wow. You just gave me an interesting interpretation over how the sisters' resentment are mirrored. Mirabel believes that Isabela can do no wrong, while Isabela believes that Mirabel can do wrong and get away with it.
@Patricio Mejia In my eyes and from my experiences this representation in the movie was really good and realistic. Hope some more people can realize through it that being perfect or more like trying to be isn’t a lot of fun.
The fact Bruno never left and made his own plate to pretend his having dinner with his family because he still wanted to be close to them It brakes my heart everytime 💔🥺
isabela’s storyline is my fave. she’s the eldest grandchild & looks the most like abuela so she’s clearly her favorite. abuela has been putting pressure on isa to be perfect since birth because she wants isa to live the perfect life that she wasn’t able to! even down to wanting her to marry mariano who resembles abuelo pedro. abuela lives vicariously through isabela & it’s not until abuela addresses her past trauma & grief that she’s been pushing down that she’s able to view isa as her own person & give her the freedom to live her own life
I love how so many people have said they showed this movie to their toxic family member and then the family member says, "I don't get it. What was the problem? Who was the villian?" Or, "What was the plot?"
I watched this with my mother and she called it "lacking" even while I had tears streaming down my face. I think a bunch of toxic people (especially parents) are just confused that the movie doesn't validate them and instead tells them to get their shit together.
Abuela was never the villain. the “villain” is intergenerational trauma. Abuela suffered so much in her life that she was doing what she thought was best to protect her family. yes, she ended up hurting them more than helping them, but the point was not to demonize Abuela. It was that the cycles of passed-down trauma that are so normalized in Hispanic culture need to be broken by recognizing them and changing them.
This movie sent me, I’m not Latino but I do have a lot of trauma in our family and this movie made my connect with my own family and struggles. I have a similar relationship with my grandma but have no contact because unfortunately life isn’t always wrapped up with a bow like a movie. It’s a beautiful movie and I hope it continues getting the love and attention it deserves.
@Creepy Girl Exactly. She couldn’t even see what she was doing to the family until Mirabel stood up to her, because no one had ever done that before. Everyone else either suffered in silence, or just disappeared like Bruno.
The reconciliation scene made me cry. It's great to see someone who is old, proud and made sacrifices own up to their mistakes to someone they're supposed to be respected by, to someone who they had previously blamed for the things that went wrong. I don't see older people take responsibility often, especially in family. She did not ask forgiveness or say BUT or IF YOU HAD ONLY. She took sole responsibility and held her tongue on her pride. That's maturity to me.
I am from Colombia and there are several things to tell. The clothes are inspired by traditional Colombian clothing (each region has its style and the movie shows them) and the music has different styles for the same reason. The places that are shown in the film are places in Colombia, for example the house is located in the Valle del Cocora where you can see the wax palms and you can also see the coffee and banana plants, and the river refers to caño cristales also known as the river of 5 or 7 colors. These are all things you can only see in Colombia
I was always interested in traveling to different countries and Encanto made me so curious for Colombia. It may just be animation but I’m sure the colours, the music, the nature and the people are just as wonderful as portrayed in this movie. Also, the culture seems so familiar to the Turkish culture that I grew up with. Food and family being the most important things 😂
Your reaction to Luisa was the same as mine I fell in love all the way with her during her song. She’s so sweet and wholesome and wants to help everyone and same
I love all the different messages in this movie. Luisa learned you don't always have to be strong and can take a break from time to time Abuela learned you can't expect everyone to be the perfect family members and there will always be flaws Isabella learned that you don't have to be perfect 24/7 and you can be yourself and let your feelings be known to others.
My theory for Mirabel's power is hidden in symbolism throughout the movie. The only other person in the family that doesn't have magic is her abuela. I believe Mirabel didn't receive a door because her room is currently occupied. The reason the door lit up at the end was to symbolize the magic/miracle being restored and the family being mended. If anything I believe Mirabel's power is actually to take over as being the "holder of the miracle" like her abuela is before her. In the final door you see abuela behind Mirabel. In the rooms at the beginning Mirabel's room is directly across from the "courtyard". Honestly if they went that route it would make a lot of sense for Disney to make a sequel. I dunno, just a theory of mine.
Thank you! People are so obsessed with giving her a magic power or assuming she has a sort of magical connection to Casita that they completely ignore Abuela is also technically Giftless even though she had a door of her own. I’d bet you anything when Alma passes away her door will reset and Mirabel will inherit it.
I've been waiting for you to do this one. Surface Pressure literally broke me as an older sibling. Like having all of that pressure on you and having to internalize your fears, worries, and anxieties while putting on a mask of happiness is the toughest thing. As a teen I was like, give it all to me, I can handle it, don't worry I got this, I can get through anything because that's my job. What I love is that this movie has someone that everyone can relate to. Some of us feel massive amount of pressure, some of us strive for perfection because that's what's expected of us, some of us sacrifice everything for our families, and some of us don't know our place or feel like an outcast. This movie really shows that it's okay to just be a person, that feeling broken, used, upset, or overwhelmed is okay.
My favorite thing about Luisa's song is that her voice in the beginning sounds like she's trying to be aggressive and as the song progresses she sounds lighter and higher and more natural, like she's trying less and feeling more, this move is precious.
18:27 I understand why you said you don't care about Abuela's past, but it's kind of (a bit) undermining what they're depicting, which is a very real issue Colombians faced AND still face, about people being internally displaced forcibly due to violence or other factors, and it's taken a toll or had repercussions on further generations with how matriarchs, like Abuela in the movie, tend to act and put pressure on the family in fear of experiencing the same again and losing everyone. It's intergenerational trauma. It's meant to be something to care about, although it's still understandable it must've been with the narrative and execution while some people feel that way and just see Abuela negatively, but I personally didn't.
We are the sum of our experiences and learning. And Abuela has had some extremely traumatizing experiences. She built her life on those as all she knew.. solved them the only way she could. Being hurtful for what you feel are the right and good reasons. It's a crazy movie taken in light of the psychological trauma.
My two favorite scenes in this movie is baby head camillo yelling 'Mirabel!' and, as sadistic as it may seem, when you see what happened to abuelo Pedro. The legitimate anguish on her face was something I didn't expect from Disney! Love this movie
You simping for Luisa might be the most relatable sh*t I've ever seen and I love it. Also, Luisa's song speaks to my heart because it really is difficult being the older sibling. Having all these expectations that you have to fullfil and, if you don't do them or you do it wrong, you are seen as a failure.
I just love how as the foundations of the family started to break so did the foundations of the house. Everyone was rebuilding that family foundation as they rebuilt the house... idk I just love that detail!
The film also shows the family union that is a pillar of Colombian families (there are always exceptions) and when it shows that the grandmother had to flee her home, it refers to the situation of forced displacement that many families in Colombia have lived and continue to live.
Also, the fact that abuela didn't have the chance to properly mourn about her husband being unalived because she had a family and a town to take care of is just really sad. This movie is such a great representation of generational trauma.
Surface pressure is my favorite song because it is the most relatable song. Also young abuela looks a lot like isabela so the vision may have been talking about abuela all along
I think this is my favourite Disney movie. The songs are all bops, visuals are stunning, it isn’t distasteful and problematic, it’s culturally accurate.
I relate to surface pressure a lot due to me being the oldest sibling of eight who grew up in a abusive house I always saw it as my job to protect my siblings so they could stay kids even just a little bit longer
I hope you're doing better now, no one deserves to go through that, honestly this shows that you're a good person, it might have been easier to leave but you were brave enough to stay for your siblings it's really respectful, again i hope you're doing good and are happy now and i wish you all the best.

Disney make this history so emotional and beautiful because they know that no matter how many suffer that cause us we like it and that we gonna still watch it
This movie made me ugly cry. Not even gonna front. Also theory: Mirabelle has the same “gift” as Alma. She’s the one that can perform the candle ritual to give the new family members their gifts. She’s the next continuation of the spirit of the family.
I saw another comment that mentioned a fascinating detail. All of the gifts before Mirabel's ceremony are things that Abuela wanted for the family based on the trauma of having lived through political stife: The ability to know what's going on and what's coming - Bruno and Dolores The ability to be strong against any obstacle - Luisa The ability to get people on your side and serve the community - Camilo and Isabela The ability to put out fires and always be able to grow things - Pepa and Isabela And the ability to heal - Julieta However, the first gift after Mirabel's ceremony was Antonio's, and he got a gift that she, rather than Abuela, would have wanted for him...a gift that he'd love based on his personality. So the keeper of the magic, which was Alma, but then transfered to Mirabel may actually influence the gifts.
The fact the he mentioned the Schuyler Sisters in the video makes sense to me now why Dolores likes Mariano, but Abuela wants Mariano be married to Isabela. I think it is because Lin-Manuel Miranda is the songwriter of all the songs, especially in the "We don't talk about Bruno" part.
Encanto honestly has become my comfort movie. I'm not Latino but since I'm a black dude who got adopted into a white family at birth I always felt different. I never got the "gift" of not experiencing racism and seeing myself in every movie, every classmate and every teacher. Since I'm also the youngest I constantly heard "Oh Let the others do that, you're just in the way". Especially Isabela hit hard because my older sister is basically the same (except for the fact that she put expectations on me because of HER talents). So this movie was amazing to watch because I could finally see myself in something, even if it's not directly about the skin color. But it's nice that they're not Caucasian!
Can we talk about how nice the Guzmans are? Perfect for that family because they already saw how chaotic that family was in one dinner and were still like, "Alright. We can do this. Let go fix a house for the person who broke your nose twice and ruined my best dress and hair with indoor rain."
I think part of what was causing the cracks in the house/their foundation was because they were shutting out Bruno. Their own family member.. a piece of the house, was missing. It took Mirabel to mend it. Mend them😉 they all needed to be together again and everyone else already said plenty about what Mirabel's gift actually is. She's like her Abuela
She does get her power; her power, like the grandmother, is to be the foundation for the family. But like you said, the first foundation was built out of turmoil and fear. And trying to hold things together, the grandmother unintentionally was making it worse because of what the family was trying to live up to. Now they have a new foundation, one based on love and the strength of the family for everything they are. This is basically the same lesson as Frozen, they are just told in different ways: the non-magical person bring stability and love for the magical one who is crumbling because they're based on isolation and fear. Once they get the foundation from the person who loves them for who they are completely, their abilities, their lives, all get to working beautifully together. Mirabella is Anna.
Oh my gosh, first time watching this channel as I am just satisfying my love for Encanto by watching tons of reaction videos, and this by far is the best one! I'm only halfway through the video and I'm a fan! Super funny and endearing reactions 🤣
I have a theory about Mirabel. So when the Abuela dies who will give gifts to new family members when she’s gone? Maybe Mirabel wasn’t given a gift because she was meant to get the Candle when the grandmother dies and passes it on and on and on throughout the family’s future members. Maybe when Mirabel becomes older she will pass the candle onto one of her grandchildren who might not have a gift
No mirable's gift was at the end of the movie. She has the gift of holding the house together, that's technically why when mirabel and her abuela fight, the house breaks because she is breaking the embracement of mirabel and her family. She is the encanto, literally. She is the magic that holds the family together just like the abuela.
@@yomomma4352 Like I said, at the end of the movie she finally gets her door which is the whole entire house. She is the one keeping the family together by being the encanto. There are no theories needed.
@@yomomma4352 This clearly wasn't an "opinion". And don't tell me to grow up when you're giving out theories when the basic answer to the theory is directly in the movie.
I’ve heard two theories about the state of Bruno’s tower: either it grew in response to the distance between himself and the family, or he asked Casita to make it as hard as possible to access when he ‘left’, to make sure no one found Mirabel’s vision
When you realise Abuello Pedro was likely beheaded in front of Alma as the people chasing them had machetes and not swords. Machetes dont stab, they slice. That is traumatic for anyone
This is by far one of my favorite Disney movies. I know we can all relate to the family in one way or another. I’ve watched it 5 times and it still makes me cry. 🙌🏼😭♥️
Isabella literally clawed her way to my top favorite characters. She wanted to be emo so bad and I felt that but before I wanted to punch her for how she talked to mirabel and guessed her problem was she couldn’t be herself
Yeah, bud. I do want you to notice the enchantment to the candle and the landscape happened right after her husband died. Her husband is a ghost and haunts the house, to protect the family and their future. He sacrificed himself out of love, so they can keep going and move forward.
8:33 her mother was trying to be sweet but she didn't believed her anyway, between that and the grandma KNOWING there was something wrong but denying to everyone and humiliating Mirabel, I was literally bawling my eyes out
16:23 Yes???? The pressure to always be perfect? The stress of needing to meet those expectations??? Having to hide what you yourself wants to instead make the family happy?????? Putting aside your own opinions????? Ngl I have an awful reaction to "Golden Child" because it just means you can't make a mistake. She's probably under just as much or more pressure as Luisa.
7:58 EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING- I'm surprised a lot of reactors didn't get reminded of Monster House at that part. That movie freaked me out as a kid wtf, I love this house way better KDHDJDJSK
honestly i related a lot to a lot of characters in this movie for so many reasons and being in a somewhat…difficult, let’s call it, dynamic w my own latine family, it hit so close to home for me, the representation is just so good, i love this animated imperfect family with all my hEART.
I cried like a baby during the song at the end with abuela. My brother walking in on me and asked what’s wrong, but I couldn’t explain it so he just looket at me funny. For context I’m 20 and he is 15, so he thought that I was having a nervous breakdown
I LOVE that you recognised it was a jaguar! One reactor called it a tiger and even Disney+ said ‘leopard growled’ at one point in the subtitles!!! Chuckling at your comments so far- will get back to watching the rest :). Edit: until the scene in Antonio’s bedroom where you called it a tiger, too! 🤦♀️😂
While Encanto is really one of my most favorite Disney films, I do give credit to it for being a successful film. It’s got a good family story, and an excellent soundtrack (my favorite being “We Don’t Talk About Bruno).🙂
My feelings are complicated. Abuela is not a villain, but she is certainly an antagonist, although the real "villain" of this story is the family's intergenerational trauma and inability to communicate effectively. There are some days where I feel like the kindness and understanding shown to Alma was so beautiful, and other days where I almost wish they hadn't forgiven her so easily. Alma had unaddressed trauma, and that led to her causing trauma to the younger generations of the family. She's not a bad person, but she wasn't kind to her family, and while that's not ignored within the context of the movie, it is often ignored, or amplified to extremes, in discussions of the movie.
Minute 16:03, What a coincidence, I said the same thing when I saw The Incredibles 2, specifically the scene where Violeta got mad knowing that Tony no longer remembers her because Dicker erased her boyfriend's memory, and it was really her fault, because, yes If she hadn't told her father about Tony and dealt with it herself, Tony would still remind her
Haven’t seen anyone else comment this so maybe I’m just imagining it but I reckon those few seconds where Mirabel is getting dressed to go save the Miracle (before she stops and ask herself…wait, how do I save a Miracle??) that little bit reminds me SO much of Mulan as she’s getting ready to leave home with her fathers armour. The music seems very similar and it shows her feet walking the floor similarly plus just the fortitude and determination the character shows too. Anyone else?
2:18 Ironically I thought the same thing, then near the ending I damn near cried when the house fell apart especially while it was protecting Maribel till the last second, that was the only part that made me cry in this movie lmaoo
I think in the end Mirabel did get a gift. Or she always had one. The love for her family that recreated the miracle. The same gift as her Abuela which created the miracle in the first place. Mirabels love holds the family and the house together, so her door is the front door.
20:29 I don't think Mirabel is given a power in the end. When we finally see the flashback of the original miracle it seems like Alma in her grief enchants the candle and equally Mirabel enchants the front door. From these enchanted items they manifest (the house and) the gifts for their family members. So besides Mirabel's many talents (singing, parkouring, embroidering, and most importantly understanding and leading her family members) I think she has the same magical powers that Alma has while the others can only rely on them to share some of it. It is also in the song Dos Oruguitas (which is afaik given in the credits in the dubbed versions for non spanish speakers). When the song starts out it seems like Pedro and Alma are the oruguitas/caterpillars who have to part and transform into mariposas/butterflies just as Alma transformed herself into the leader and protector of the community of the Encanto. But in the end we see that Alma was still inside her cocoon protecting herself from the outside world and her past. Mirabel and Alma had to let go of trying to control/earning the respect of the other to transform. Then again I think that the house is not siply concious but also a time traveler. Think about it: it manifests around Alma and her children before it is properly built. BUT most importantly there is a collection of photographs of each (grand) child opening their door: the doors already looked the same when the kids got their gifts; only Camilo is a teen on the door and Antonio a child. Because they show them around the time when the house is destroyed and (re)build.
Oh and when you rewatch the movie: notice how Dolores is trying to break to Mirabel that Bruno hides inside the house. Her "issue" is that she tries to keep many of the secrets she knows but more importantly does not step up for herself. She told her about the rats first before bringing up Luisa and during We Don't Talk About Bruno she keeps telling them that she can hear Bruno. Also his shadow is seen ont he balcony during her bit (not sure if that's Camilo though) and while they lay the table during the song his hideout is directly behind the wall. The gifts can also interestingly be interpreted in two ways: Alma sees them as tools the community needs but Mirabel gives Antonio the plushy because he loves animals before the gift cements this character trait. So all the gifts can instead be seen as manfestastions of the character traits.
The trauma brought on by war is something most of us can't imagine, thankfully. My grandmother was in WW2 and it gave her issues that continue to this day. It still affects our family. Not an excuse for Abuela to be toxic, but it's an explanation. She still has her mourning shawl 50 years after her husband passed away. Poor Bruno living in the walls for 10 years is also really rough. I'm glad Mirabel didn't get a Gift, it would have ruined the message of the movie.
Abuela isn't evil. She's traumatized because of everything that she's been through, so she holds on too tight and expects soo much from them. And the expectation that is put on Isabela to be perfect is what keeps her from being closer to Mirabel. They envy each other.
Dos oruguitas just broke me so bad, if my eyes tarnished with tears with Toñito ceremony because Maribel “Dos orguitas” was the bomb 😩🌈✨❤️ Hello from Mexico by the way, sorry for my english is not perfect😩
i love Luisas song. the lyrics tell you so much about her character but everyone's too distracted by the visuals to pay it any mind, which i think was the purpose of them being so out there, but
Brought to you by Disney+ starring Maribel who is the only member of her family who has no abilities. When the village is having some sort of issues it is affecting everyone. But who is the culprit behind it all and why is it happening?
I didn't cry the first time I saw this, but I had a fever and I was in the theater, so there you go. I cried every time I saw it after that 30 times in a row, on a loop, with covid.
This movie is great. It deals with real life issues grief, trying to be perfect, pressure to help others, and pressure to prove your self to your family. It shows how hard it can be when you have a talented just being recognised can be hard. And that you shouldn't ignore others just because you don't understand them. And overlooking anyone hurts everyone. It's better to be open and honest because bottle up doesn't help anyone.
Her power basically is being the new foundation for the family magic, essentially she tore down Abuelas foundation for the miracle which was based on grief and fear of losing the protection of the Encanto allowing the violence to destroy their home again. They then built a new home and miracle based on being together as a family, replacing the candle and individual doors with Mirabels front door that has the entire family instead (inside doors looking like they remain blank but magical). Mirabel became the heart of the magic in the same way her grandmother was with her candle so no actual gift other than being the core that the miracle evolves from. Does mean technically the grandmother has no "gift" any more as the candle is absent in the new house.

yes! her relationship with mirabel is actually how jealous siblings end up when they grew up with someone like abuela and their family dynamic in general. her insulting mirabel and using mirabel's insecurities is shitty but that's the point. she was being shitty to mirabel just like how mirabel misunderstood her because she didn't have the courage to even understand her own self. she did realize what she was doing was wrong though and reconciled with mirabel (something a lot of siblings could only wish for)
She is my favorite character I love her
“He wants five babies”
The fact Bruno never left and made his own plate to pretend his having dinner with his family because he still wanted to be close to them
It brakes my heart everytime 💔🥺
So sweet
isabela’s storyline is my fave. she’s the eldest grandchild & looks the most like abuela so she’s clearly her favorite. abuela has been putting pressure on isa to be perfect since birth because she wants isa to live the perfect life that she wasn’t able to! even down to wanting her to marry mariano who resembles abuelo pedro. abuela lives vicariously through isabela & it’s not until abuela addresses her past trauma & grief that she’s been pushing down that she’s able to view isa as her own person & give her the freedom to live her own life
So glad I'm not the only one who noticed that Mariano looks like Pedro.
That's a good point. I also read on Internet, she's not only the eldest sister but also the oldest grandchild of Abuela
I love how so many people have said they showed this movie to their toxic family member and then the family member says, "I don't get it. What was the problem? Who was the villian?" Or, "What was the plot?"
I want a compilation of this
I watched this with my mother and she called it "lacking" even while I had tears streaming down my face.
As the little short that showed before Encanto (Far from the tree) beautifully illustrated.
16:50+16:51+16:52+16:53+16:54
This movie sent me, I’m not Latino but I do have a lot of trauma in our family and this movie made my connect with my own family and struggles. I have a similar relationship with my grandma but have no contact because unfortunately life isn’t always wrapped up with a bow like a movie. It’s a beautiful movie and I hope it continues getting the love and attention it deserves.
i just also think that 1. trauma isn’t an excuse and 2. she seemed to try to bring mirabel down
@Creepy Girl Exactly.
Not to mention, during the first song, you can literally see a house that says Colombia on it. 😂
also the yellow butterflies
I was always interested in traveling to different countries and Encanto made me so curious for Colombia. It may just be animation but I’m sure the colours, the music, the nature and the people are just as wonderful as portrayed in this movie. Also, the culture seems so familiar to the Turkish culture that I grew up with. Food and family being the most important things 😂
There are also a lot of references to Gabriel Garcia Marquez and 100 Years of Solitude
Your reaction to Luisa was the same as mine I fell in love all the way with her during her song. She’s so sweet and wholesome and wants to help everyone and same
YES
I love all the different messages in this movie.
Luisa learned you don't always have to be strong and can take a break from time to time
Abuela learned you can't expect everyone to be the perfect family members and there will always be flaws
Isabella learned that you don't have to be perfect 24/7 and you can be yourself and let your feelings be known to others.
Love this
Thank you! People are so obsessed with giving her a magic power or assuming she has a sort of magical connection to Casita that they completely ignore Abuela is also technically Giftless even though she had a door of her own. I’d bet you anything when Alma passes away her door will reset and Mirabel will inherit it.
🤦 THANK YOU
Luisa: Singing about her pain and anxiety
Him: *That’s hot*
♥️
THISS! The whole point is to understand her past and how the trauma affected everyone’s lives in the long run. HOW could you not care about that?
Luisa = Best
I just love how as the foundations of the family started to break so did the foundations of the house. Everyone was rebuilding that family foundation as they rebuilt the house... idk I just love that detail!
Him simping for Luisa the whole movie made my day haha 😂
The film also shows the family union that is a pillar of Colombian families (there are always exceptions) and when it shows that the grandmother had to flee her home, it refers to the situation of forced displacement that many families in Colombia have lived and continue to live.
Isabella isn't the one who broke his nose. She just lost control of her powers because the house was breaking
Subconsciously fighting or rebelling against marrying him.
9:47 MAMACITA HAHAHA
“We don’t talk about Bruno” is the BEST song in the movie in my opinion
Facts
Also, the fact that abuela didn't have the chance to properly mourn about her husband being unalived because she had a family and a town to take care of is just really sad. This movie is such a great representation of generational trauma.
He only needed to see Luisa once to be willing to risk it all 😂
….yes

You being down for Luisa is A MOOD! Love her 😅❤
DUDE. Stop making me laugh!
I just got to you calling Luisa “mamasita” and I just about died. XD
This movie made me ugly cry. Not even gonna front.
Also theory: Mirabelle has the same “gift” as Alma. She’s the one that can perform the candle ritual to give the new family members their gifts. She’s the next continuation of the spirit of the family.
UGH. LOVE THIS.
I saw another comment that mentioned a fascinating detail.
All of the gifts before Mirabel's ceremony are things that Abuela wanted for the family based on the trauma of having lived through political stife:
The ability to know what's going on and what's coming - Bruno and Dolores
The ability to be strong against any obstacle - Luisa
The ability to get people on your side and serve the community - Camilo and Isabela
The ability to put out fires and always be able to grow things - Pepa and Isabela
And the ability to heal - Julieta
However, the first gift after Mirabel's ceremony was Antonio's, and he got a gift that she, rather than Abuela, would have wanted for him...a gift that he'd love based on his personality.
♥️♥️♥️
@@philtonfake4852 if she had a gift all along she would’ve gotten a door and plus that’s why I said it’s a “theory”
@@yomomma4352 Like I said, at the end of the movie she finally gets her door which is the whole entire house. She is the one keeping the family together by being the encanto. There are no theories needed.
@@philtonfake4852 well I told my theory you have you’re opinion I have mine grow up and learn I’m just sharing a theory not anything factual
@@yomomma4352 This clearly wasn't an "opinion". And don't tell me to grow up when you're giving out theories when the basic answer to the theory is directly in the movie.
You having heart eyes for Luisa the whole time is so wholesome.💜💪🏻
Rosa Diaz voiced this sweet and compassionate lead. I genuinely cannot believe that. It's been over a year and I still don't believe it
Isabella literally clawed her way to my top favorite characters.
Mirabel is honestly, in my opinion, the most perfect character Disney has ever made.
THANK YOU
I think you missed isabelas point she was always held to being perfect because of abuela
honestly i related a lot to a lot of characters in this movie for so many reasons and being in a somewhat…difficult, let’s call it, dynamic w my own latine family, it hit so close to home for me, the representation is just so good, i love this animated imperfect family with all my hEART.
I cried like a baby during the song at the end with abuela. My brother walking in on me and asked what’s wrong, but I couldn’t explain it so he just looket at me funny. For context I’m 20 and he is 15, so he thought that I was having a nervous breakdown
He was uneasy about the house and then he loves the house.."Thanks house "
I haven't watched this yet but why is her as a kid the CUTEST! I'm so watching this later today lol
I got the exact same reaction, lol
It’s so cute and funny how he was simping over Luisa the entire time she came on the screen😂, and I love it!😊❤
While Encanto is really one of my most favorite Disney films, I do give credit to it for being a successful film. It’s got a good family story, and an excellent soundtrack (my favorite being “We Don’t Talk About Bruno).🙂
Of course the soundtrack is excellent. Lin Manuel wrote the songs.
Minute 16:03, What a coincidence, I said the same thing when I saw The Incredibles 2, specifically the scene where Violeta got mad knowing that Tony no longer remembers her because Dicker erased her boyfriend's memory, and it was really her fault, because, yes If she hadn't told her father about Tony and dealt with it herself, Tony would still remind her
So funny that you made the Eliza and Angelica reference considering this is written by the same guy who wrote Hamilton hahaha
Didn’t realize till after that it was Lin who wrote it
Haven’t seen anyone else comment this so maybe I’m just imagining it but I reckon those few seconds where Mirabel is getting dressed to go save the Miracle (before she stops and ask herself…wait, how do I save a Miracle??) that little bit reminds me SO much of Mulan as she’s getting ready to leave home with her fathers armour. The music seems very similar and it shows her feet walking the floor similarly plus just the fortitude and determination the character shows too. Anyone else?

Ironically I thought the same thing, then near the ending I damn near cried when the house fell apart especially while it was protecting Maribel till the last second, that was the only part that made me cry in this movie lmaoo
Casita is basically just Monster House, but without the horror.

I think in the end Mirabel did get a gift. Or she always had one. The love for her family that recreated the miracle. The same gift as her Abuela which created the miracle in the first place.
Mirabels love holds the family and the house together, so her door is the front door.

YAYYYY ENCANTO REACTION!!! Love this movie
I have to say Disney actually got truly deep with Abuelo's death, because that is actually accurate
Lost it when you said "MAMACITA" to Luisa, you definitely have a hard crush on her xD. She's my favourite character too, btw.
She. Is. The. Best.
Wait, did he just say “what is wrong being stuck to be perfect”?! 😂😂😂 dude!
When they say "We don't talk about Bruno!" it reminds me of Luca when they say "Silentio Bruno!" Or however you say it
The trauma brought on by war is something most of us can't imagine, thankfully.
Yo. Your reaction to this movie made me laugh/ cry. I relate so much with Luisa (aka. "the strong one") in so many ways it's uncanny.
I’ve felt like crap all morning long this makes me feel better

The amount of men crushing on Luisa instead of "perfect" Isabella makes me happy.
We know who the real best girl is.
Some people theorize that Maribel Powers is she’s the heart of the house itself and the candle is the heart and soul of her grandpa

i love Luisas song. the lyrics tell you so much about her character but everyone's too distracted by the visuals to pay it any mind, which i think was the purpose of them being so out there, but
Brought to you by Disney+ starring Maribel who is the only member of her family who has no abilities.
Welcome to 🇨🇴 !!! Glad you enjoyed.
One of the most fun reactions I have seen. New subscriber!
