One of the things I love about reaching the plains is that it really gives you that viking feeling in a way the others haven't: everything you need, you're getting by going ashore in your longship, raiding a native village, and taking their crops and valuables. It'd take longer, but you could even eschew farming entirely and just pillage all your barley and flax.

Exactly, puts one right into the pillage and plunder mood, not so much the r-word thing though. I do this solo but can't get a group to to it, they just want to be Germans!

They swarm kinda like you expect smaller enemies to, that’s why picking them off from a distance is a good idea.
@@Blondefire_HeyBlondie Prior to having a full load out of Plains tier gear, I’m almost exclusively a bow gamer on those settlements, really enjoy the sneaking around sniping them off individually, with improved gear I tend to be a bit less subtle with my approach 😂😂👍👍

Yes. That rested buff disappears when you reload a save.
This is why I always advocate ending the play session in the in-game evening in front of your bed, even if you have to take an extra minute or two to portal back. Then, you log back in, you can just sleep and have the buff immediately refreshed and a fresh day to play in.

No further unlocks so far, so I think it’ll be mostly weapons and armour. That black metal atgeir is calling to me.

Yes, elemental arrows are da bomb in certain situations against certain mobs/bosses, but you are on vanilla vanilla I believe and taking your time so skills and equipment and food are more than able compensation. Now if you played with CLLC mod set to 2 to 5 star hard difficulty with special effects on (but not infusions), you'd be scrounging for every freeze gland you could get your hands on no matter what armor or skill levels were. I use CLLC rather than the game's hard or very difficult setting because it adds a lot more variety and if you thought spawns were crazy at any point, you ain't seen nothing yet. Also the atgier might be less effective because CLLC mob health is scaled at 100% per star instead of 50% and the healthier a mob is, the more resistant to stagger they are.

I’ll check out the mods once this series is done. Sounds like there’s a sizeable community out there.
Mods are not supported officially but yeah, I think the modders love this game so much they keep repairing and improving after patches, and I know with the right selection and settings, mod can make the game still very traditionally vanilla in spirit, but also make significant improvements, especially to QOL.
