This is how LEGO should do their city trains. Clearly based on a real-life prototype, while having enough detail to both satisfy consumers and keep the price down.
This is exactly what they do. 7897 is an ICE 2, albeit with two cab cars instead of one cab car and a power car. 7938 is a Bombardier Talent. 60051 is an ICE 3. 60197 is a Eurostar 373 in the later dark blue color scheme. 60337 is a Renfe 102/112 in a fictional color scheme. I think what you meant to say is “Clearly based on a non-European real-life prototype.”
@LD1-38, where is Lego Denmark situated? Europe so they will now only model European designs. Especially with the new CEO he appears to display a rather 1940's European trait.
If Lego can make a 7897 and a 60051, I’m sure they could and should make this model. This looks much better than the recent passenger trains (without being too complex)
3:12 the passageways between cars, at least the black part you're pointing to is called a diaphragm, and yes, both historically and in the modern day, baggage cars have been and continue to be equipped with diaphragms.
I remember doing something like this in high school. Easily one of LEGOs best sets. I think you’ve hit the perfect balance of nostalgia and creator expert vibes. Great video mate!
That's really what I'm going for with my fleet. I like to build layouts and want to experiment with automation. I love 6 wide trains I just want them to be a bit more detailed than many of the official sets. Luckily there are many fans out there doing the lords work, like the designer of this train and many people making mods of the 10219 Maersk locomotive. I have plenty of those in the pipeline coming soon😁
Here in England UK, we have baggage cars with gang ways between passenger cars, they are known as full break coaches built to the same profile as passenger coaches/cars., I have put the same front onto my old 12v Lego express and a 9v mother block and 9v wheels on the coaches, I also built two extra coaches to make it a 5 car E M U.
That looks like an awesome train!! Really love the builds you've been doing. This one somehow feels modern and nostalgic at the same time. Really clean looking build, though!!
I ended up using a similar method to other locomotives I've built recently. I used a 1x2 clear plate with vent tiles to show the LED. It will show up in a video soon
This replaced the aging original Metroliner trainset. I call it the Metroliner 2 set. This set was built by Siemens while the original was built by EMD.
The Metroliner itself was an actual trainset that Amtrak used, albeit it looked nothing like either sets. They were cab-car EMUs, similar to Amfleets. As for the set, it is likely some variant of the Genesis. However I don't believe it's the P32AC-DM, but rather the P40DC or P42DC, as they were more common and popular. The scheme does look like the Empire Service livery on select P32s however, but it's most likely meant to represent the Amtrak Phase III livery, which could be considered the Posterchild livery of Amtrak. It could also possibly be the F40PH which did wear Phase III unlike the Genesis, but the shape doesn't match as well.
Thanks for the clarification, I'm trying to learn about this stuff when I have the time but man I don't know how railfans develop such a knack for identifying specific locomotives 😅
Thank you for this video, this train looks modern but has also a little bit of nostalgic. Regarding of the updated bricklink list - I think it is necessary to check, if building of train is worth. Sometimes it's hard to get a rare pieces in a reasonable price
If they were to make a train set in the vein of the 90th Anniversary remakes and tributes, I like to believe it would be either 7740 (1980) or the Metroliner. But it is still a dream...
If you're ever looking to remedy some of the colour mismatch in the pieces, Jangbricks has a great peroxide clean process on his channel, seems to clean the parts right up and remove some of the sun damage and other staining
It's a very popular method, it's been around forever. There is a lot of debate as to how well it works. Which is probably why Jang has the comments disabled on that particular video. The real problem is that Lego hasn't been as consistent with their colors in recent years. The white plate that looked yellowed in the video was right out of the Pick a Brick bin. Many new white parts appear "pre-yellowed" or almost a creme color. At this point I just try not to let it bug me, most of my builds are seen zooming around a layout so it's not like most people would notice anyway
Feel free to send me an email or contact me on discord. I'd have to double check the Studio build, I don't remember what changed I made from the original design
if you put a 1x2 plate underneath the upper door rails in the baggage car, there are tiny lugs on the those doors that should keep them from sliding all over the place :)
Nice job. Regarding the tables in the passenger cars, maybe they should be yellow tiles on top and the transparent brick represents the space between the table legs? Don't know just thinking out loud! Dave
I'll eventually devote some time to changing up the interiors of the passenger wagons, or at least I hope to 😅. Always lots of projects in the works, and it's not like people can see inside them when they are going around the layout
Soon I will combine my original metroliner with ideas 💡 from you and legos alternative build of the 4558 with a baggage waggon What I will do different is that I‘ll keep the original 10001/4558 doors with the Amtrax stripes
I get asked this a lot with my builds but it's really tough to say. There is a haul video for this build where I got all the parts and just about every order had parts I needed for other projects. It's also a very different answer for what country someone is in
I can't make any promises. I'm not much of a MOC builder myself but I'm learning as much from the community as I can. The modifications I've made since making this video are adding lights and fixing the button for the PU hub. That will come soon
All good, was just curious because I want to hopefully make this train someday and incorporate the Powered Up system similar to how you've made it work on yours, since most of my other trains are Powered Up ones
I have tons of American diesel engines coming soon, it was a nice change to build this one for me. Still I might later build an Amtrak dash 8 or something eventually
That's something that occurred to me, they wouldn't be used for profit, just for my personal use. Whether or not them appearing in a video that makes me tens of dollars counts as profit isn't something I would look forward to litigating in court. I'm not sure how folks that print stickers for Lego builds or other UA-camrs handle this
Baggage rides up front on a real one, it's actually a law, you can't have any cargo riding behind passengers. Law comes from a catastrophic train wreck that killed a bunch of school children back in the more or less "old west" era.
This is how LEGO should do their city trains. Clearly based on a real-life prototype, while having enough detail to both satisfy consumers and keep the price down.
For sure!
Nice Olympic Class Liner profile

what I miss at new Lego sets is doors for playing 😕

I like the baggage car. And the whole train. Definitely looks even more like Amtrak than the Metroliner
Yeah I love the look of it. I need to see about getting stickers made for it to really set it off

Excellent looking train. Love this!
This looks fab and vastly more affordable than the original metroliner. Also easily expandable.
3:49 try adding a 1x2 tile on the middle of the rail plates
It should stop the doors from moving while they are closed
Fixed, I got several comments about it, not just here 😅
Don't worry they do have a passageway sometimes specially in Alaska that people get on through the package car and into the passenger compartments
I remember buying my 4558 back in 90s. Still have it in a box somewhere :D
Looks great. I really like how the doors open.😀👍
That looks like an awesome train!! Really love the builds you've been doing. This one somehow feels modern and nostalgic at the same time. Really clean looking build, though!!
I think the designer did such a good job with it. Hoping to expand it a bit in the future but there are so many projects to complete first 😅
Love it! Gonna get me the instructions!
Well worth the money, it's designed really well
I wonder if a clear axle for your push-button would show the 'on' light...?
I ended up using a similar method to other locomotives I've built recently. I used a 1x2 clear plate with vent tiles to show the LED. It will show up in a video soon
You could also add a sleeper and a dining car if you wanted, maybe even an old school observation Lounge in the back
A beautiful train! If I didn't have too many other projects I want to do first, I would be building it too!
This replaced the aging original Metroliner trainset. I call it the Metroliner 2 set. This set was built by Siemens while the original was built by EMD.
I will definitely be mocing up my own model of this. thanks for the inspiration
Don't thank me, thank Oninino 😄. I think he did a fantastic job with it
The engine looks like a Siemens Charger and a P42 Genesis had a baby.
I like it.
It looks really nice. About the loose doors in boxcar adding 2412b 1x2 Grille piece in the middle of plates with door rail should fix that problem.
Fixed, I got several comments about it, not just here 😅
Question I love Lego trains but is there a way to connect the in between the carriages like a accordion ? 🪗

I've reached out to the creator to see if they are interested in updating the parts list
Its looks fresh
I would have also designed a sleeper and cafe car as well. Possibly even a lounge car.
Thanks, Nice Train

Well done, might have this as a project as well sometime in the future, the train including the baggage car looks really good.

this NEEDS to be an official set
Agreed!
i'm interested in the parts list you have, i might get the instructions.

Yep it was pointed out immediately to me in the comments and in our discord, I had never built a set that used these before 😅

The baggage car would have end doors. How else would the crew access it when the train is moving!
Looks great!
Thanks for the video! If there is a way to share an accurate parts list that would be extremely helpful :)
I've reached out to the creator to see if they are interested in updating the parts list

question what’s the website called to create your own train set? Like how you build that Amtrak train
You mean the digital building program? Bricklink Studio
Yes tyyyy
Next you should make the lego acela express on rebrickable
If you mean the one by lego_war_bricks it looks great, way to big / expensive for me to build anytime soon 😅
make sure that lego train gets on time unlike the real thing XD
The nose of the loco reminds me a lot of a British intercity 125
Yeah it sure does
You should make it Double Decker!
There was a club car add on i always wanted as well
Yes, I am considering trying to make one to fit with this train
I need to ask if there's an answer, how much did it all cost?
I get asked this a lot with my builds but it's really tough to say. There is a haul video for this build where I got all the parts and just about every order had parts I needed for other projects. It's also a very different answer for what country someone is in
Alright, do you think you'll ever make an add-on video for the engine modification and baggage car or nah, just curious
I can't make any promises. I'm not much of a MOC builder myself but I'm learning as much from the community as I can. The modifications I've made since making this video are adding lights and fixing the button for the PU hub. That will come soon

@@BatteryPoweredBricks Can you provide an estimate? I’m wondering how much cheaper this is compared to the Metroliner. Thanks
Ooh I want one. I like the cars. Not so much th loco. Thought u we’re gunna build the diesel one over this one
I have tons of American diesel engines coming soon, it was a nice change to build this one for me. Still I might later build an Amtrak dash 8 or something eventually
Looks great! Do you have future plans for the sleeper car?
I'd like to eventually. I need to look at some other passenger trains and get some ideas
The dark azure makes the cheat line look like the Netherlands’ flag. I’d have to see the stripe in standard blue before I say one’s better though.
I tried it both ways in Studio renders. The designer Oninino also used blue first and later switched to dark azure
I believe the baggage cars have the tunnel IRL
Hallo, he actually is my friend in country. You should try build tgv lyria, it really good model i prefer
For the stickers of amtrak you will need a LISENCE from amtrak to use their logo cause if you don’t they will sue you for using their logo for profit
That's something that occurred to me, they wouldn't be used for profit, just for my personal use. Whether or not them appearing in a video that makes me tens of dollars counts as profit isn't something I would look forward to litigating in court. Ah well I better get to fixing that before I get a fine 😅, good to know!
@@BatteryPoweredBricks 🤣
Soo cooool
london under ground train
It still ain’t modern💀 Amtrak Phase 3 was phased out long before that new logo was created. They now have phase 7
It's a more modern version of the Lego set, not a modern Amtrak train
It's beautiful to ❤🎉😮😊
