  • The 10219 Maersk locomotive has always been my favorite Lego train. Like many others around the world I've been working on making my of locomotives from various railroads using the Maersk loco as a template. The most important thing is finding good decals / stickers. I've tried to share as much information as possible, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

    The Maersk train is the best LEGO has made, I really like seeing it in different colors. I also really like the modification to the sides to avoid using the large modified tile, I'm sure it could be great for brick-built decorations

      Yeah I'm glad I happened across that eBay listing 😅. I've seen that technique used by others as well. You could do some simple lettering with round and angled tiles. I may try some of that in the future

      I'm quite happy with them, I've seen some great designs by others as well like for the Canadian railroads

    I'm so ready to spring on one of these Maersk rebuilds. When I was a kid I would stare at it in the catalog for hours, but I grew up in a poor household so all my sets never really exceeded $50. Now, I still have the same issue with the sets going for $400-600. thanks for these vids :)

      I hear ya, $50 was about the limit I had as a kid and even those were special occasions. Thanks for watching!

    I'm fortunate enough to have received the Maersk set as a christmas gift years ago, it has mainly just sat on my shelf, but I'm starting to get back into lego trains as a whole and have been curious about piecing together clones. And these certainly look good! Especially those Conrails, although the tiled sides on the BNSF and UP do look very good. So many options!

    Wow, your locomotive collection is exploding! Fantastic looking locomotives.
    For the colored stripe on the BNSF, maybe you can take inspiration how Holger Matthes created it on his BR10. Page 131 in his book that you have gives a clear idea, and hopefully works (although I’m not sure what to do around the slope pieces).

    Will you be adding a SoundTraxx Blunami decoder for train sounds? Love your content. I’ve been running 9v Lego trains since 1998.

      It's definitely tempting. I recently found the channel Revelbrick and I love the way his locomotives move / sound. For myself and the channel as a whole I like to stick to Lego solutions so others can emulate anything they see easily. But you never know 😅

      Maybe one day, I haven't seen many decals for Chessie and for a CSX I think I'd like to make a wide cab version to switch things up a bit.

    Love your videos! Question....is the magnet on the front of the engine functional? Or does it sweep too far out over the track around corners causing derails?

    • @BatteryPoweredBricks
      @BatteryPoweredBricks  3 місяці тому

      Thanks! They are absolutely functional, I've run three and four locomotives at the front of a train and I never have derailments

    What's the cost to do one of these? I'd like to try my hand at a CSX version.

    • @BatteryPoweredBricks
      @BatteryPoweredBricks  4 місяці тому

      I really don't have a good price estimate. Some colors are more expensive, some design choices will change the cost a lot. It also depends on what parts you have already, what power system you will use (PF, PU or 9v), what country you are in. The list goes on and on 😅

  • @cowerdnerddespacito9518
    @cowerdnerddespacito9518 4 місяці тому

    What price ball park would you say that bnsf locomotive cost? I know prices on parts change but a general idea would be cool, bnsf rolls through my town every few hours and having a model of them running around my track would be awesome.

    • @BatteryPoweredBricks
      @BatteryPoweredBricks  4 місяці тому +1

      I may make a dedicated video about pricing things out like this. Maybe get some ideas of a way to do it. When I think about it it's just overwhelming. I always use as many parts as possible from my collection, I order common train parts and electronics in bulk and then order the rest that I need. It could cost anywhere from $50 to $200 depending on what country someone is in, what parts they already have and what power system they want to use. I've also seen parts cost vary wildly on Bricklink, with some stores charging a few cent and others a few dollars for the same part 🤷‍♂️

    • @cowerdnerddespacito9518
      @cowerdnerddespacito9518 4 місяці тому

      @@BatteryPoweredBricks yeah Bricklink pricing is a pain, I’m sorta new to lego trains so I’ve just been sticking with official sets, but the my own train engines are way too expensive to think about, me personally, I use Pick a Brick to order parts. I ordered a my own train caboose from them with just the parts list, I had to substitute a few old parts but all in all it was only 40ish dollars, free shipping and being able to use vip points to bring the price down on brand new parts seems a lot better than what brick link has to offer.

      @@BatteryPoweredBricks also please remember to take a break from the hobby every now and again so you don’t get burnout! The worst thing that could happen is associating lego with a sense of dread!

    • @BatteryPoweredBricks
      @BatteryPoweredBricks  4 місяці тому

      The main advantage to Bricklink for me is expediency. I've had to wait months for parts from Lego that weren't on the bestseller list. Also I do use plenty of out-of-production parts which Bricklink will have and it's nice to support fellow Lego fans by buying from them

    • @BatteryPoweredBricks
      @BatteryPoweredBricks  4 місяці тому +1

      Well I haven't hit burnout yet 😅. I space my videos out and have them ready a month or two before they go public. This allows for short breaks throughout the week. Also I don't run myself ragged trying to heavily edit my videos like most UA-camrs do (or pay someone to). I don't mind making videos for a small audience that appreciates the older style of content

    Could we get instructions for the Union Pacific? Or a parts list

    • @BatteryPoweredBricks
      @BatteryPoweredBricks  4 місяці тому

      I'm still making some changes to the design. I had to replace the batteries recently and I'd like to build some things differently to make it easier. I would then need to update the Studio files to get an accurate parts list. Instructions are a ton of work but I may eventually make them in the future

      I'm really not much of a MOC builder. Most of the stuff I build is modified from others builds. Either way I really don't take requests for what I build
