      @@Marcstrainsandfunko There's no reason to ever insult anyone on my channel!
      You pointed out a mistake I made, and I can't complain about that.
      For anyone to hit the like, or sub, or leave a comment, they've taken time to interact with me, and that's always great as far as I'm concerned. It wasn't long ago I was making videos with under 100 views, and ZERO comments, so I love that people like watching them. (The only thing that gets slightly annoying is every time I make a spaceman video I get dozens of comments just saying "Among Us" which gets a bit boring, but even then, they probably think they ar etch first person to think of it, so no need for me to not reply!
      Every comment, on every vid still gets a reply on my channel!

    Not counting the motor and extra car, the changing of colors to make it look more visually appealing was a good idea and it always makes me wonder why Lego didn't design it (and other sets where this happens) in the first place.

    • @MinifigJez
      @MinifigJez  Місяць тому

      I think it's normally to do with other colours of parts in the set and maybe even with availability in the factory. But that's the beauty of Lego, once we have teh set we can swap parts out, I did a lot of colour swaps in the recent Sightseeing Bus set too. Which, if you're interested, you can see here: ua-cam.com/video/rm9QVECVQtk/v-deo.htmlsub_confirmation=1

    Hehe I have done actually same as you, 5 part train. My engine car has a bit a different design at the sides, basically 2 x 4x4 studs filled with the black tiles you have as well. I have a glass at both ends of the Engine car.
    My further modifications are, I have done all passenger cars low niveau floor as another one here in you tube already did.
    So my whole train is wheelchair accessable, 4 platforms.
    My both trains I have got Magnetic Standart connecters. As the gap is 1 stud longer, I have another modification added to visually influence the gap. The black tiles each corners wich need anyway changed from 1x 8 original to 1x 6 becomes an additional 1x 6 plate in red, so it seems its closer together, and the train looks quite cool with it as well.
    Another modification I did was add additional roof supplements, like red current lines on black holders, with inputs for the cars aircon, further on the engine car with the Pantograph ( wich become another modification as well tomorrow when the parts arrived , build it bit bigger ) there are additional equipment for Main Current switch, Engine Fan Filter Inputs, Main Inputs of the Current line for the electric equipment an engine car had inside and finally on all cars black grip holders in black at each of the ends asymetric at left side.
    Looks quite cool yet like a real train finally looks on the roof.
    Another modificaion I want do ( just came today in my mind and I forgot to order parts is, each end car becomes a signal typhoon.
    Or I will see if I have the parts in my stock...
    I will see, as soon my train is finish I think I will post a video with the result of it. Still parts left yet, at least the 1x6 plates in red also take longer as I thought. But I think end next week should be here.

      Lego maybe should have offered this centre car as a powered add-on option (maybe the additional coach too) , that would have kept the original set affordable and aimed at the market it's aimed at whilst also providing an option for those who want a powered version..... in fact, they could still do this if they wanted to.

    • @MinifigJez
      @MinifigJez  2 місяці тому +1

      @@ForburyLion that's very similar to how trains used to be back in the 80's. You could get the 7740 train set, and then add on separately sold sleeper and mail cars.
      Or you could buy a push-along train, and then add a motor. Lego don't give trains the love that they used to !!!!

      @MinifigJez  2 місяці тому +4

      I'm thinking about making a second video with some extra MODs. The one thing that annoys me the most is the huge step up into the train from the door level!
      Lights would be a great idea, but getting a cable from the centre car to teh ends might be too difficult.
      As for the station, I have the larger City station from a few years ago, so that's what I will use in my Lego city, and this will just be used as an extension to that station.

    That's really cool what You have done. Simple, but effective. What I really don't like about this tram are doors. I think that those don't match to vehicles. They are fine for structures, but LEGO put them to trains and buses as well. And I don't know why, because there arę doors masę specially for trains, 5 bricków high and used for decades. So You can use those or build sliding ones 😆

      Yes, I'm not a big fan of using the new 6-wide door frames on trains. It means this tram and the last passenger train, both need a platform height MUCH lower than ever other Lego train that has ever been produced before !!! (not helpful to Lego City builders!!!!)
      I LOVE the old 80's train doors, and it's great that they still put them in sets occasionally.
      I've just planned a Hogwarts Express coach using the 80's train doors.
      I thought they didn't look bad on the recent sightseeing bus, as they look similar to some bus doors I've seen.

      @MinifigJez  27 днів тому +1

      If it was a train, I;d probably go for it, but as Lego intended it to be a light tram, it doesn't;t have corridors, so the cars aren't connected (it has windows on the ends)
      Also, Jacobs would need a LOT more work as none of the single wheel sets are articulated, just a pair of wheels stuck under the car!!!! - This one was never going to be a major modification, just a few colour changes and the all important power car !!!

      Good point about the grey being more like metal. Tbh, I wish instead of the shitty battery powered systems Lego had just made a 9V motor with remote control support. But I think the real reason lego wanted to abandon 9V is that over molding is simply far more expensive.

      It's really tricky to get any sort of corridor connectors between Lego train carriages. The R40 curves are so sharp that it doesn't give you much lee-way. reducing the couplers down as I have done I think has helped this model a lot, and I've tried the next size down, but then the corners of the coaches collide with each other on the curved track. Also for this model, the inside doesn't;t give any indication of being able to cross between coaches, which is why they have windows in the ends, but adding an extra stud width of 1x4 in the middle of the coaches on regular trains, allows for cornering. Have you seen someone else use corner bricks on a model? I'd like to see an example if you know of one.

      If you REALLY want one, depending on what country you are in, there are 59 for sale on Bricklink at the moment.
      They fit together with the modern plastic track perfectly, you just have the added metal rails, which don't look too bad, next to the plastic ones.:
      59 currently on Bricklink:

      SOME of the listings (11) say they are in the new Blue/Grey colour, that is the same as the plastic track, but most are in the Old (V Grey colour.

    Great mods. I don't like the interiors.. I would change the 4x2 red bricks to 4x1 remove the seats and make a bench on one side and standing room on the other.

    • @MinifigJez
      @MinifigJez  3 місяці тому +2

      I really like the idea of making the passenger area wider, with seating on one side
      The only trouble is that if you swap the 2x4's for 1x4's, they will only be attached by one stud, the other three are floating above the wheels. (with a 2x4, the other studs are holding it in place)
      Lego don't make 1x5 bricks (which could span the gap over the wheels) but I suppose the 1x4's would be held in place by the window and tiles above, but it would be quite fragile.
      I'd also need to scrap the chairs that come with the set, and make a brick-built bench seat, as the Lego chairs can't sit in front of a brick, I'd need to leave a gap between the wall and the chairs, so they'd end up in the middle of the train car, not leaving any space for the standing area!!!
      BUT... the idea is good, and I think I might do a second video modifying the interior of teh train, so I;m going to add all your suggestions to my list of things to do!!!
      Thanks foo much for commenting and I;m glad you liked the video.

    Great video, but I think taking away what colour the passenger cars had was a mistake as it loses its continental style appeal as Lego is Danish.

    • @MinifigJez
      @MinifigJez  2 місяці тому +1

      What colour were you referring to?
      I think the only bit I removed was the azure plate above the couplings. The reason I did that is in my experience, the ends of a train are generally dirty and the owners normally just leave them black, and don't bother decorating them with their company's colour scheme, unlike the sides of a train or tram. - Let me know what you think.

    • @simonmaverick7018
      @simonmaverick7018 2 місяці тому +1

      @@MinifigJez At the end of the day it’s personal choice. Your train set your rules. The azure plate matched the seat looking from the top down of the carriage. I just would have kept it and just changed the coupling. I guess continental trains are kept cleaner than ours.😅

    • @MinifigJez
      @MinifigJez  2 місяці тому +1

      @@simonmaverick7018 "Your train set your rules" made me chuckle! I just double checked the parts list, and the plates/chairs are called "Dark Turquoise" which is also a Lego colour I'm not that keen on myself! (My mistake calling it Azure, I double checked the parts list because I quite like Legpo's two Azure colours, so I wondered why I'd pulled them out!)
      I think I'm going to revisit the Tram MODs anyway, to widen the inside for more seats and lower the floor to get rid of that awful step up, once you get inside! Once that's done, the original Turquoise would only be visible from outside anyway.
      Thanks for the comments, it's great to hear what others would do to MOD sets.

      Unfortunately, because the cars all have fixed wheels that don;t rotate, you can't extend the carriages by more than a few studs. It would need to be turned into a full train with wheel bogies. So in this case I think. I'll keep it as a smaller tram.

      It was released in 2019 in the Hidden Side set 70424 "Ghost Train Express"
      It was in a 2nd set in 2022 in the City set 60335 "Train Station"
      Last year it was in set 76423 "Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station"
      And now this year it's in this tram set.
      You can see them all here: www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=53834&in=S
      You said that you're "not really good with Legos", well my first tip would be to NEVER call it LEGOS!! it's like sheep... you have one sheep and lots of sheep, you have lots of Lego, you never add an "S" on the end!!!!!
      I hope that helps. Thanks for commenting.
