@@blacklightlifestyle9763 The Murdaugh family was very powerful in the area. Three generations of men all named Randolph Murdaugh served one after the other as circuit solicitor for the judicial district (this is the position of elected prosecuting attorney). They were his great-grandfather, his grandfather, and his father. This reign spanned almost a century, from 1920 to 2006. They had so much power and were so well-known that some local people called the 5-county district "Murdaugh Country".

I never in a million years would've thought that I would say this, but I believe that I see in this kind, measured, professional and fair gentleman almost as much good as I see evil in Murdaugh. That is in no way at all diminishing the excellent character of this judge. It's only to say that the degree of evil in Murdaugh simply can't be matched by anything at any measure, but if it could, I believe that the good in this judge could come as close as possible to that. I wish him a long, enjoyable retirement, and it bothers me that this was how he had to retire after fooling with this foul, rotten, evil ba$tard for several years. This judge is clearly a very good man, and we could use many, many more just like him.

I live in Wales, UK and have followed this case ever since the Netflix film about the death of one of Paul’s friends, Mallory Beach, at the boat accident. It came as a great surprise the following morning to read that Alex Murdaugh had been accused of murdering his wife and younger son. I couldn’t believe it and for the next few months I was hooked on the live broadcast of the court case. It was compulsive viewing.
The prosecutor Creighton Waters deserves a medal. What a man and thank God for him and his team. I kept thinking it was a film I was watching, not real life! How did Alex Murdaugh think he could cheat and lie and later murder and get away with it for years and why was no one suspicious of him ( or were there people, there must have been)!
Judge Newman, you are an amazing person. I looked forward to your summing up and sentencing of that vile man and I had pleasure in listening to your wonderment in trying to understand such a person. It is impossible. Enjoy your retirement, you so deserve it and you will be sorely missed. I’m sure that lawyers all over the world will have learned so much from you. An amazing lawyer and a true gentleman!

Treat him with the same cold , heartless disdain he fave everyone else. Treat trash as trash. The judge was way too kind to someone who is going to crap on that kindness. This is why our system fails us.
