@@saraburns7340 This witness (an experienced lawyer) was not going to fall for any leading questions, he recognized them (of course) and answered them as he pleased (to the defense lawyer: You do not want me to go there ... I was with Alex in the week after the murder. I have seen things that were not even touched in this court room. Bam !). But the prosecutors questions did not insult his professional integrity. He could have simply asked him: You rightfully must feel angry towards AM, it would be only human if that would influence your testimony a little bit. Can you 100 % assure us this is not the case. And he would answer with a resounding NO, my emotions towards AM do not alter the way I testify here. And he is right, he said nothing that could be seen as being biased.
I do not even know why the defense lawyer would go there. AM was a "theatrical" lawyer, and they discussed hog hunting and gun and hunting preferences. Nothing controversial in my mind - even if the witness would have been eaten up by anger.
Even IF this witness wanted to shade the testimony, does this twat of defense lawyer really think he could hinder - or that he could bait him into showing too much anger.
The defense lawyer did his client no favor with that stunt.

He didn’t deny the anger instead he agreed he raised his voice and then explained why. He’s had a year or more to work on his anger with Alex, and like he said he had to work really hard to get past the being angry stage. At this point Alex means nothing in comparison to the truth of what happened to Paul and Maggie. Do you think the witness cared more about being angry with Alex truly, or telling the truth to get down to what happened to Paul and Maggie? (Paul being someone he really cared about himself). Im sure best case scenario in the witnesses mind is just that he’s a terrible thief and untrustworthy person, Vs. Him murdering his wife and kid for any reason. I don’t think he wants to condemn Alex for something he didn’t do, but wants to be honest about what he knows he did do as to not be affiliated with Alexs character.

Although Mr Crosby could justifiably be angry at Alex, he has chosen not to. People who have survived Psychopaths, or even survive murder, we know these hard questions will be asked so we can get to the bottom of things. Whether you like it or not, whether you think this person is out of line, clearly shows that you know nothing of the legal system when it comes to try to prosecute a guilty person for killing their entire family. There were quite a handful of officers and other responding officials who trampled all over the crime scene, tampering, even standing over Maggie’s body just having a casual convo. They tampered so much I believe a lieutenant or Sargent even commented about it that night (I believe.)
So, we knew that people fighting for Alex were absolutely fighting and will continue to fight extremely dirty and messy. I mean, I don’t like AM defense attorney however, he’s doing his job defending his client, and attempted/attempting to try and cast doubt, make holes, and again, unfairly fight.

I think he’d really planned on it being a murder suicide killing them and killing himself. Then like you said Buster gets everything. Probably had a jam or something thus why he switched weapons after he shot Paul and then after shooting Maggie couldn’t bring himself to shoot himself too. Bitched out. He tried to do it later with that guy and still couldn’t go through with it. Everything else has been him scrambling to cover it up like he learned from his Grandpa.

But you were CONSISTENTLY in a state of shock, psychiatrists or psychologists would not have found your condition implausible you did not give the impresson of faking your shock and memory loss. The adrenaline rush had messed with your frontal lobes (the "modern" part of the brain) and the areas in the brain that process memories. But you KNEW you had been there and likely you remember things from when you thought this was going to be a harmless evening.
In case you had heard your brother scream (from a distance) or had first heard dogs bark or people scream when you did not yet know that this was just about to get really bad - you very likely would remember the barking or yelling.
You were not YET traumatized so those memories were properly processed and stored by your brain.
When you observed the crime - or did not see it but when you saw your brother dead - then the shock set in but people DO remember what was before the adrenaline rush hits them. At least it was like that for me - in my case it was only a car accident, one car in front of us rolled over. Luckily no one was seriously hurt. I remember what was immediately before, but could not testify which of the drivers (on the highway) had done what. I remember a pulk of cars with too little distance for that speed. I remember slowing down so I would put more distance to the several cars on both lanes before me. I did not look good. Just 1 minute later my apprehensions were confirmed. Someone changed lanes. I could not testify what had happened exactely or which car was where when. I remember how the black SUV rolled over and landed on the right side of the street. I remember what the driver screamed after getting out (car on the side) and I saw the children in their seats the belts held them in place. No fuel running out, no fire. I can also remember what the adrenaline rush felt like.
You however were not in an odd manner coherent that just served to put the police on a certain track and to launch a certain theory who had done it.
As a supposedly innocent man in despair and shock - if he could think halfway logically at all - he had to fear that the killers were still lurking. At that time he could not know when his family members were killed and he never mentioned dogs barking or people screaming (that in itself is highly implossible. But if he really had not heard anything when the murders happend he could only know that he left around 8: 47 and there was no way for him to know in that scenario if they had been shot 5 minutes or 20 minutes before or 30. He called 911 at 10 pm. If he was thinking at all he should have been deeply perplexed why he had not heard one of the 5 or 6 dogs bark. Why he did not hear any shots. he had shortly seen the dead bodies, he had no way of knowing how many shots (allegedly he had not heard them). But it was obvious that each person had been hit by more than one shot.
I have not heard him testify and being cross examined - but during the investigations he NEVER admitted to hearing barking, shots, screams ..... He would not redeem himself if he would have suddenly "remembered" that on the stand. A person with such memory loss would be much more impacted.
Pretty much the first thing that he told police as soon as they came to the grim scene was how he thought this had to do with the boat accident, the lawsuit ... "This is a long story but ... "
In other word his first goal was to PLANT a narrative. He was coherent enough to do that. It is highly suspicious in itself and additionally it undermines his claims that he was ins such anguish that his short term memory for harmless memories had been impacted.
A man still able to think straight would have had other worries - at that point. He could discuss theories later with police. Were they sitting ducks for killers that were still nearby ? Where were the police helicopters, the street blocks (one would expect murderes to come with cars to that remote property, but if they had come on foot, the dog teams were needed to hunt them down).
To experienced investigators his priorities were a red flag.
If he had been numb - then he would have been numb overall and consistently, and any ideas who could be behind it would not have been presented in a logical, chronological order. And not as the first thing. First get the bastards, hunt them down right away, then identify them. For all he knew that could have been crazy meth heads or a home invasion gone wrong.
Now we know he was in the kennel area minutes before his wife and son were killed. (He had lied about that - or not told the truth - for the longest time. Finally he conceded what everyone else knew to be true anyway, of course he does not admit to lying, then he could as well plead guilty and be done with it. He now claims he misremembered because of shock.
But anyway he was very close to the crime- space and time. And allegedly completely unaware what was about to happen.
If strangers had done it the dogs would have barked (there were 5 or 6) and the killing happened in the kennel area. There were approx. 7 or 8 LOUD shots.
For the sake of discusscion. Alex by sheer luck leaves a few minutes before the killers attack, he goes over to the main house or wherever but he does not have the time to go far, so he SHOULD hear a commotion. He is awake and not in shock because he does not know something terrible is about to happen. He hears the dogs barking (that is irritating or even worrying and should be checked out - but it would not send him in deep shock).
He hears 7 or 8 shots (I think Paul and Maggie were shot with some time in between. Paul was likey seen as more capable to present a problem for the killer, so he was taken out first). So maybe Alex (in a scenario where we assume his innocence) heard 2 or 3 shots first. Now that is really worrying, but I assume a man like Alex would rush to get a weapon, maybe night vision goggles, call police and neighbours and then run to see what was going on. A neighbour that worked for them lived 1.5 miles away. Also someone that knows to handle a firearm.
Alex would have been deeply worried to hear even a few shots from the area (and likely also screaming from Maggie who was shot later, and after the first shots were fired the dogs would have gone crazy. Quite a commotion). But I do not think he would have frozen like you did, but you saw the body right away. And even IF he did freeze - he would remember the events BEFORE the trauma hit him. So it is very unlikely that he completely forgets that he had been at the kennel area just a few minutes earlier, which was completely harmless. And if such major loss of memory would happen it would cover more incidents, and could be identified.
His "memory loss" is also very specific and very peculiar.

At the same time- one of the “?” moments of the arriving officers was that Murtaugh seemed to be rushing out a scenario before they asked for it- implying ( istm) that it sounded rehearsed. Even if only rehearsed briefly. Which would be the opposite of “ drawing a blank.”
What confirmed the doubts to me was the crying- when someone cries actual tears, you can hear it in their voice and nose- everything sounds squishy and snotty. Murdaugh’s crying sounds really, really, dry. Even his sniffling sounds dry. Your mileage may vary, but that’s what I heard.
