One of the finest rock voices ever. Seven years later, we still miss you.
Yes I agree Chris Cornell a awesome singer awesome voice, miss Chris Cornell 💐
whiskey named truth.
oh god time has passed so fast
he's also the greatest rock songwriter of his generation.
others wrote bigger hits, but none wrote as many (for multiple bands, a solo career, etc)
❤
One of the greatest songs about Depression. It's a beautiful song about a horrible illness.
Yes , especially when a person has been hospitalized for depression, only then you realize you’ve lost total control of your life.😢😢 It’s hard to come back, but it’s possible.
💯✌️😎
an illness caused by a horrible society and horrible living conditions
Using fuckin Drugs doesn’t help!
It’s really gets to the core of depressive thoughts too. Amazing lyrics/poetry.
"No one sings like you anymore." RIP Chris Cornell.
I'm completely Numb! Shocked! I don't want to believe he's gone!
J Miller Chris Cornell Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley revolutionized grunge music and now their in heaven
You forgot Scott Weiland and Eddie Vedder. STP and Pearl Jam were part of that revolution. Sadly Eddie is the last one alive.
Ian Thornley, lead singer of Big Wreck. Draws comparisons to Chris, but deserves to be called out for his own talent which includes lead guitar. Unbelievable talent, and because he's Canadian, not as well known. His talent as a vocalist is right up there with Chris, Vedder and the likes, and as a guitarist, well check him out and draw your own conclusions.
orignalREM I admit, when I read your post, I wanted to choke you for that comment, but I pride myself on being open-minded. I checked them out "albatross", definitely a strong similarity there. I get your comment now. I still say Chris has that buttery authenticity which reels pain and sadness from the depths.
Everything about this song is amazing. Drums pounding, hypnotic bass groove, fuzzed and clean guitar. The lyrics, the feel, the sound, and Cornell's soul.❤
Awesome group Chris Cornell a awesome singer, had a great voice

''Fell On Black Days is the feeling of waking up one day and realizing you’re not happy with your life. Nothing happened, there was no emergency, no accident, you don’t know what happened. You were happy, and one day you just aren’t, and you have to try to figure that out''.
-Chris Cornell

When brain chemistry and vagus nerve stagnate, this can happen very bad and even get more profound if the channels are not reset. Please see your acupuncturist and herbalist when this happens. Sir, you have very good taste.
I just discovered Chris Cornell and Soundgarden in Aug.'22. Some of us are late bloomers. Chris is a monster singer and lyricist.

Thank you, Chris... I always feel as if I have someone to relate to whenever I listen to your music. The world needs people like yourself and Chester, and may both of you rest in peace.

Cornell and Cobain both wrote about depression -- and they were not making things up.
@@anthonygerace332 Yeah... As messed-up as it may sound, the fact vocalists like them or Chester Bennington ended up killing themselves proves what they sang about was real and came from their soul which makes it even more sad.
We all do
I'm 71 and a child of the 60s. Many of my friends became convinced that music had died by the 80s and they never gave the 90s a chance. You could take Soundgarden and plop them down in the late 60s/early 70s beside Hendrix, The Who, Ten Years After, Steppenwolf, etc., and the fit would be seamless. I consider Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, STP, and Nirvana to be the artistic equals of my generation's best and I'm sad that nearly all my friends missed this boat.
Bro, heard of muse? It continues

Nobody cares what year you’re listening to this in. People will ALWAYS listen to this.
Fuckin right
So right
Finally!!!!someone said something!!!😂
Soundgarden and Alice in Chains were THE soundtrack to my teen years. I'm just utterly gutted I've lost Layne and Chris even to this day.
Layne's death hit me hard because he carried me through a lot and he was always my main vocal influence outside of Beth Gibbons. Layne's death put me in a dark place. But I was always wretchedly in love with Chris. I was like, "Chris has it figured out. He is a god among men. He is supernatural and eternal. He will never die except of old age." He gave me purpose. He gave me power. He was the thing that inspired me, day in and day out. Everybody I knew was aware of what he meant to me.
And then one day on the morning of May 18, 2017 I got a call from one of my best friends. "Janine, please sit down. Some fucked up shit happened last night." "What happened?!?!?! SPIT IT OUT!" "........... ............. Chris Cornell died last night."
"You're playing a prank on me. You're a fucking asshole. Good joke and fuck off."
"No, Janine, he died. I am so fucking sorry. Look it up. I am so fucking sorry."
"YOU'RE FUCKING LYING! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU EVEN SAYING! YOU'RE A LIAR!!!!!!! WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME????!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I wept tears of blood for months after and am weeping as I write this right now. I remember it like it was yesterday. I will never recover.
Girl I'll gut you.
I'm 41 and they're still my soundtrack. I can't get sick of Alice, Soundgarden, or Mad Season songs

Well said. We miss you, Chris Cornell.
I read the comments, and i see that Chris had a helpful impact on so many people. People going through the same thing. Shows how powerful music can be, and that everyone is the same, relatable... and simply, no less or more human than everyone else. There is always a silver lining.

You're not alone
Seriously, how did the 90's give us so many awesome rock vocalists?? Insane to me that Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain, Eddie Vedder, Layne Staley, Scott Weiland, and more were all around at the same time back then.
Perfectly said ❤
But nobody now
The fact that most all are gone =🤯and I’m 60 now so to me at the time their music let me know the 1980s was over
Did anybody understand what Eddie Vedder was singing about? I thought he was a weak singer, Layne and Cornell are leagues above him.

"'Fell on Black Days' was like this ongoing fear I've had for years ... It's a feeling that everyone gets. You're happy with your life, everything's going well, things are exciting-when all of a sudden you realize you're unhappy in the extreme, to the point of being really, really scared. There's no particular event you can pin the feeling down to, it's just that you realize one day that everything in your life is fucked." - Chris Cornell

Fumz the first song i went to. i heard the news and that beginning riff started over in my head like a faint echo coming from another room in a house. appropriately so. we love you chris, you will be missed
So sad, RIP Chris
Strange thing is this was the last Soundgarden song I listened to the night before the news of his passing. Listening to it makes me think it was a kind of a suicide note.
Fumz I had started listening to this song the night before he die also I listen to it over 10 times cause it was the first time I really listen to it I really related to it cause I just got out of prison. Darkness always haunts the creative, the gifted, the genius; the darkness seems to be the price that must be paid for being born special...
Rest in peace, brother. You were and will remain one of the greatest voices, greatest writers, greatest musicians of our generation and you'll remain one of the greatest for generations to come.
Billy Stewart beautifully said. you could see it in their eyes. they are irreplaceable.
Billy Stewart
i agree
Billy Stewart - You must be gifted as well, because it takes one to know one. The tragedy is most geniuses will never be heard.
Joe Dennis
Yeah, I've been a tortured soul since childhood. I certainly don't mean to seem pompous or arrogant, but you nailed it. It's understandable for me to see that fame can slowly crush the gift and make the desire to escape... it (there is no valid description of the darkness), so attractive.
Music and writing have always been... easy, but tortuous. Having synesthesia, though it's very cool with the colors I see through music, has definitely added to the darkness in the past and made the small seemingly insurmountable. But I've learned to recognize and use the synesthesia to my advantage, especially in music and math, in the past 10-15 years.
And you are absolutely right about which voices and messages are heard; I don't even bother anymore... The grass is always greener, right? Ignorance is bliss is an idiom I've longed to espouse...
Billy Stewart - Absolutely crazy this World is.
Here's to ya Billy boy 🍺
Proudly covering this with my band, it's just a flawless, deep and sad masterpiece.

Sun spots are faded. Now I’m doing time
Never give up........ keep pushing baby
I feel like Chris had such a poetic way of writing songs. Like you just feel the lyrics. That is why these guys are the best (my favorites are Layne and Chris). They are so talented not only because of their voices but also their abilities to express their pain and make the audience feel it.
Like the now I'm doing time line feel so real because I feel like I've been doing time mentally. I got tested into the severe depression range this year and I still haven't found meds that work. And I so desperately want to get my life together because I know I have a lot to offer, but it's tough. There's just this lack of caring about anything that makes you just feel like giving up on yourself with depression. And it's so hard to explain how strong it feels that it makes you blame yourself and hate yourself for being in that state. I hope someone else who's dealing with that can relate, and I'm trying to get things together the best I can right now.
Hi I Recommend an indie rock song Called 'Got to keep it real' by Robert Nix
Chris has a voice. Amazing
this is the song that i thought of when i heard the news R.I.P. chris
1 min after i heard the sad news i put this 1 on!
Me too. Such a sad day. A great talent and by all accounts a warm and generous soul gone.
addio Chris 😔
Met you about 7-8 years ago through Steve Lillywhite the producer of "Carry On". We saw you in Chicago at a small venue, then Steve arranged for my children and I to see your show and meet you afterward. In person, you were so enigmatic and paid a lot of attention to my children. You don't know it but ever since two of my children met you, two of them became luthiers (guitar builders), self taught guitar players and music writers. My eldest son became the youngest employee in Fender's history and is now a Senior Model Maker at 25. My daughter has gone the direction of sound engineer (Steve Lillywhite influence). My children grew up with you and your amazing talent. Thank you and God Bless you for your amazing life. I really don't believe you would harm yourself under any circumstances. It wasn't the light I saw in your eyes. You had way too much to value and lose. Thank you for the influence you had in MY children.
Spinderella 360 GREAT story, THANKS FOR SHARING AND I AGREE, no way DID HE take his own life, I'm sure we will find out 1 DAY WHAT happened RIP BROTHER CHRIS

is a beautiful testimonial of life..indeed.
Great story. That's the power of music..Thanks for sharing.
Yes Derek, the power of music and a power of a great person and a great artist.
This song is about being happy one day and then all of a sudden falling
into a depression. If you are feeling depressed right now, just know
that everyone goes through it and even though it may not seem like it,
brighter days will come. Stay strong.
Youre right!
Thanks man
❤️

unfortunetly you have to go through hell on this planet to get to heaven...thats the way its setup folks...tough it out...don't give up...its all worth it in the end...its all a simple game if you can figure it out before its too late...

@Giovanni Marrero It was really sad that he mad suicide..
It sure was . . .
@Giovanni Marrero thank you. I think some people like talking about depression and suicide and it's sick. Sick sheeple talk, and maybe you save one sheeple a day because of your comment❤
@@sandrajovic9304 I think its a sad theme ... but sometimes it helps to talk about when you have good friends .. Im sure
😭
After 26 years, if you’re still here you’re a fucking Legend. 🤘
Guess I’m a legend, ha ha.
I was 27 when this came out. Soundgarden was epic. Saw them at a Lollapallozza show in the early 90s.
David Hutchinson lucky you!
I am Legend then. I saw them in concert somewhere around 1991 for BadMotorFinger. They opened along with Corrosion of Conformity for the headliner, Danzig in Cleveland, OH years before Superunknown & "Black Hole Sun" hit the charts. One of my top 3 most memorable shows.
@@robhad516 Im 50, I wish could put that in a borrowed pipe and smoke it...
"Hands are for shaking
Not tying"
Really hits me hard
I can relate to that.
What does it me
@@emmett5318 rope
Hope not
@@emmett5318 basically its means we should be shaming hands and making peace. Not tying our hands with conflict and pain
Still here in 2024 - I have fallen on black days-AGAIN - chronic depression is a bitch 😢
Amen dude
Same. Hold On!
Star running daily. Even for a few minutes. Be consistent and steady. 3 to 5 days a week. You'll soon get better and start to feel better. Then you will fall on GREAT days! Best wishes. PS I've been there. I bet it.
Seems like alot of us can relate! You're here for a reason! Keep fighting! You'll be alright and you'll be glad that you did 😌
