These guys were hands down the best and will never be replaced. RIP Chris. Still listen to 90s rock and grunge to this day.
I was born in 1976. I say this all the time, but what a time to grow up in music. I graduated high school in 1994 and these guys were on the soundtrack of my youth. So many others… we’ve lost so many and it hurts me.
There was definitely an aspect of tortured souls syndrome with a lot of these important artist. Swept through that generation like the plague. My brother was caught up in that undertow and died of an overdose. Very spiritual, demonic if you ask me. That music cost them something. You dig too deep and realize it's your own grave.
If I am hurting inside, Chris’ voice cuts me open, exposes the pain and rips it out. Eddie’s voice is like the salve and morphine that helps me heal. Both equally needed to get me through life.
Eddie Vedder just happened to be in the studio when Chris Cornell was recording this song and struggled w the low parts so Eddie picked up the mic and Chris made it a duet. Was when pearl jam was first forming.
I know his pain I’ve fought suicidal thoughts since I was in the military carrying an m-16 and was told my grandma died and my my was being committed for mental health reasons and I was stuck in my unit and felt totally helpless! It took another 10 years of several attempts that I finally broke down to a guy at an AA meeting and he took me under his wing! It’s still an uphill battle at times but I think of all the cool stuff I would have missed out on! Ever since I heard what happened to Chris I can’t help but wish he too would have reached out for help cause sometimes we suffer silently and people around us have no idea the voices or voice saying just do it ! It’ll stop the pain and it’ll make that voice go away and you’ll be in a better place! But now I have new voices saying maybe it’ll make things way way worse! Maybe you will survive and you’ll know a new level of pain that made the old pain seem tolerable or maybe you will die and go to a place you wish you weren’t and you’ll never escape! But either way I like life more than death at my own hand! I just wish that Chris was still here cause he was and is special!
Goosebumps EVERY TIME. One of the greatest songs ever written and performed in rock music history. Thank you, Temple of the Dog for this absolute masterpiece!
Yeah a song about baby farming ? Buddy wake up this is literally what John the god was charged for in Brazil with Oprah and Maria as his friends ( Maria the spirit cooker )
There was a flavor of freedom in that era that I don't expect to experience again in this lifetime. These were the very last days of American culture free from mobile phones, the internet, and vocoders.
@@mr.malapropismus1220 When Autotune was first audibly used („Believe“ by Cher) the producers claimed it was Vocoder. Only years later did it become known what autotune was, so if you are born in the late 70s/early 80s one might still think that the Autotune-Effect = Vocoder.
When I got the news about Chris, this is the first place i came. One of the best songs ever made. It changed my life! Chris' voice came along when i needed it and has never failed me. I wish to send his fans and loved ones MY love. You will be missed, Chris.

As a father at 19, son was born in 1998 I appreciate this comment! This was always a treasure of a song from my short lived youth. He is now almost 26 and I get to work and see him every day. Blessed! By the way I raised him on this music 😂

devilutioner666 I'm not gonna lie, I heard of the news from a co-worker at lunchtime. When he told me it was a suicide I felt my eyes start welling up with tears. Soundgarden was what I call one of my calibration bands. Whenever I have had a shitty day I would very often end up at Soundgarden on my listening list. Cornell will forever be missed. RIP.
RIP Chris Cornell. 4 years gone, today.😪 your voice defined the struggles of my life, thru temple of a dog, soundgarden, and especially Audioslave. I am clean now these 8 years, and feel your loss in my soul.
My heart breaks today. We've lost one of the last fathers of grunge, not to mention a man who was beyond talented . Chris, you brought us so much wonderful music and lyrics in your short 52 years and helped to form a style of music and way of life that I hope never dies. You've inspired so many and will be missed eternally. No one sings like you anymore. Go forth and say hello to heaven, beautiful soul x
I'd love to agree with you 100%...BUT...he was not one of the last fathers of "grundge"!..."grundge" was an invention of the media to rename the punkrock style of nothern america!...Chris Cornell was a titan of Rock an Roll!
It’s been 5 years you’re gone Chris. This song is masterpiece! Heard it on the radio today as a tribute on the anniversary of Chris’ passing on this day. Miss you Chris Cornell!

@Woody Last Name ok here I come! I think that in the cultural scene of Seattle in general one can appreciate more than in any other example a set of symbolic and literal manifestations and expressions worthy of a sociological study. From the early 1980s to the mid-1990s, a series of very significant events occurred in the world that we could well say are a turning point, such as the exacerbation of the capitalist system. Now that can't just happen; It had its consequences and in my country (Argentina) it was lived in a singularly dramatic way. The same happened in the rest of the world. I think that in Temple of the Dog all those feelings and sensations are condensed and they are reflected musically like in no other band in this city, except for Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains and, of course, others like Mudhoney, Green River, etc. In this regard, note what Eddie said on the occasion of Cornel's death. His lyrics represented the way people lived ... what does he tell us if not the song "Black Hole Sun"? Personally, I do not see something similar in historical terms.
Yep. 116 million views....wow. yep. I remember Monday night football halftime we switched to mtv....saw Eddie for the first time in this video....I said to my pals this was the greatest thing I'd ever seen..
Masterpiece. Both of them are perfect on this. Thankful Chris asked Eddie to be a part of Temple Of The Dog it made for one of the best songs I’ve ever heard to this day.
This doesn't even strike me as a rock song. When you get older and you learn that all these songs you heard on Lite FM are rock songs (aside from the obvious ones like Linkin Park or Nickelback), and knowing rock it makes perfect sense for many of them, especially since you became aware that post-grubge exists. However, this song, all the way until the last part where there's actual noticable guitar for the first time, and I think maybe they didn't even play that part, or maybe there was a "radio version" which isn't on UA-cam because who would seek it out in purpose if that's the difference. This song even after being older then 20 and knowing all this, it does not sound like a rock song at all, it sounds like it belongs right there on Lite FM in some extremely conservative city where tht stations has completely banned all rock and metal bands at all period because they said they word "fuck" in a different song or something. Instead of Metallica, Pearl Jam, Nickelback, or post-grunge in general, this song sounds like it belongs right there with non-rock non-"pretty" (Mariah Celine etc.) LiteFM songs. Matchbox 20, Maroon 5, something like that. Even RHCP or Green Day wouldn't fit in with this song.
I was 16 also had no idea of what the future would hold All l cared about was the music back then Life was simpler wish l could go back l know where you are coming from
This song is getting more and more relevant everyday. This world doesn’t suck, but it’s leaders and alot of people in it do. We can all make a change. Remember, “they” need us way more than we need them.
Very right, you are @eternaladventure-wm. I have been saying the exact same thing for over 50 years now. And the same result is today as it was back then, people just don't want to get it anymore. And I blame the government for it all. Good example is social media, what is social media? Well it is not controlled by the citizens, although we would like to think so. Social media is controlled by the government. Social, socially, socialize, social reform, socialize medicine, socialism it is one of the same, people have to learn to strap on a pair of brass ones and take the bull bu the hornes and bury its head in the dirt! Because there are more followers than there are leaders. Tell me what you think
Probably more relevant now in 2023 than when it was first released, kinda sad that we as humans, as a country learn absolutely nothing and keep repeating the same mistakes.
was relevant when it came out. I made it from New Jersey to Seattle that year. Aside from associations. Back then it was either Faster Pussycat and hairspray bands like that or as they called it "boring" Seattle. It was enchanting.
I can't believe it was 1991. I'm 38 now, and everytime I listen to this classic I feel like it was released the week before. RIP. Chris Cornell. Long life for Eddie. Never ending talent
Cricket…I love your mom! My mom would have DEFINITELY said ‘get that boy a sandwich’. Sending you hugs and high fives for feisty Moms! from Angie in the Bay Area.
Guys, this is all a gross over generalization. There's so much music being made today by so many types of people and a lot of it is good. Just because all you know about is the stuff that's popular doesn't mean every contemporary musician or band is bad or somehow less than these older bands. Sometimes you just have to spend a little time looking for it.
As part of my Opera training, I sing both parts changing the Octave. RIP Chris Cornell, Thanks for the best music of our Generation. I am so Glad I got to see you live when I was 25 years old.
+killerDIRK1 Just listened to Bohemian Rhapsody, and ya Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder are still two of the best vocalists ever. Oh and Robert Plant > Freddie Mercury
@@anthonywyattStylist people in general are doing better all over the world. Is their inequality, yes and it will always be like that no matter what. I can tell you from experience that in my parents native India, more people have been lifted out of poverty and have access to basic necessities than 30 years ago. In the last couple decades, over 270 million Indians have been lifted out of poverty and have access to food, nutrition, education, etc.
Downfall of metal grunge categorizing music but it's all the same it's about the feeling the power of the riffs emotion and posers that weren't ready to do it but duplication and replication two words that this generation will never understand
I'm not even going to dare trying to sing Chris's part, nobody could ever sing like that except for him and we will never hear another voice like that again, definitely one of a kind, Chris and Layne Staley are the best voices of the 90s in my opinion, honestly the best voices ever
One of the greatest songs ever made. The passion and range in their voices are incredible. I don't know how people can listen to auto-tuned processed pop music/top 40 when there's music like this out here.

This was my highschool. My mom died when I was a junior and this music. The 90s grunge saved me. Soundgarden, Pearl jam, Nirvana, NIN etc. I was super close with my brother. He passed away in June at 39. I'm drawn back to the music that saved me before hoping like hell it still has the same magic cause baby.... I'm barely hanging on. I understand why some people don't make it 💔
That's tough.I dont want to sound too dramatic but oh well.....youv'e come to far and your family would want you to be strong because better days are ahead. They will always be with you in spirit.
Still a song that when I hear it, I won't skip or let ANYONE change it. It's on all my MP3's and I listen regularly. This was just a brilliant collaboration from the two bands. Takes me back 20 years.
I would feel no remorse throwing every rap album in a fucking fire and I would also not care if every pop artist just stopped making music because it’s fake ass corny easy to make music
This tune made me a fan when I heard it in 1992. I was 14, and a very awkward teen. Something about Chris's vocals touched me... Then in high school I heard "Fell on Black Days", "Black Hole Sun", "Spoonman"... Followed him to Audioslave, back Soundgarden... Solo projects... Chris was an entity to himself. That vocal range is not common in today's music. The world lost a legend, but so thankful he'll always be alive in these amazing tunes. This man left an amazing legacy. Blessings.
That is incredible that Eddie Vedder was brave enough to start singing on this track and Chris Cornell humble enough to let him do it allowing the recording of this masterpiece of rock music. Really two great guys and amazing singers.
There's this little sad smiling thing Eddie does when he sings sometimes, very apparently in this video... And it melts my heart into a puddle of pearl jam. Every time.
Yes he does honey oh yes he does! This song still gives me goosebumps! I got to see these beautiful boys at the beginning of making it big at Lolapalooza '92 I still can't believe I was there and maybe a little high too 😊✌🎶❤
I was there about 15 years ago when my brother graduated from UW, walking the trails with him, my parents, and my brother's wife. Took me about 30 minutes to realize where I was and then I felt overwhelmed.
2:01 - Chris Cornell's symphonic yelling echoing Vedder's monotone on that first hook is one of the most resonating and powerful things I've ever heard in music.
I started down a rabbit hole of my youth in the 90s and realized many of the front men of these bands are gone. Staley, Cornell, Lannegan, Cobain, Weiland - as long as there is a someone going through trials and tribulations, and your music lifts them up, all of you are eternal.
One of my favorite songs of the 90's. Everything about it -- Eddie and Chris's amazing voices, the music, the lyrics, everything is perfection. So sad watching it today. RIP Chris.
My mom used to sing this song when I was a child. I just popped in my head recently, I had to hear it again. Its even more powerful than I remembered! Broke down in tears.....no lie

Sean Seagraves Right???? his cover of Nothing Compares 2U came on Sirius/XM Radio the other day and I seriously had to pull over it was that breathtaking and yes every hair on my arms was standing up!
It’s a shame they never made another song together. Their chemistry is amazing. I’d put their voice chemistry next to Jerry Cantrell and Layne Staley’s.
@@ali-5881 1. I thought you were talking about the entire band, not just Chris and Eddie. 2. I haven't listened to the whole thing- but Temple of the Dog made an entire album together, so I assume there's at least one more song they both contributed to, even if one was just doing back up vocals. It wouldn't make sense otherwise, because I know there were Temple of the Dog shows and I find it hard to believe each one just sat in silence for half a show...

33 years ago to the day my Brother passed away on Sunday at just shy of 16, I was 21 then. This song and Say Hello to Heaven were heavy hitters to me then. I had to do a throw back. If I am hurting inside, Chris’ voice cuts me open, exposes the pain and rips it out. Eddie’s voice is like the salve and morphine that helps me heal. Both equally needed to get me through life.
Crazy how this is a duet between two of the best voices on grunge, this is exceptionally beautiful. What a masterpiece, so grateful to listen to this.
This was done before the fact and released after they gained popularity.
they are just a friends
Exactly!
I think that this is a Great Moment in (Musical) History! :)

RIGHT! and somehow nobody fucking knows about them, even though it's 2 of the biggest mfs of that point working together. I don't think they even really liked each other lol.
Damn straight.
And it’s on the station

The 2 greatest rock voices together on a badass song!!!! Not sure if they won any awards for this song. But they should of won everything possible
Same, one of my favorite songs ever

Preach
Probably more relevant now in 2023 than when it was first released, kinda sad that we as humans, as a country learn absolutely nothing and keep repeating the same mistakes.
was relevant when it came out. I made it from New Jersey to Seattle that year. Aside from associations. Back then it was either Faster Pussycat and hairspray bands like that or as they called it "boring" Seattle. It was enchanting.

Blessings.

One of my favorite songs of the 90's. Everything about it -- Eddie and Chris's amazing voices, the music, the lyrics, everything is perfection. So sad watching it today. RIP Chris.
RIP Chris what a song ❤
My mom used to sing this song when I was a child. I just popped in my head recently, I had to hear it again.
Its even more powerful than I remembered!
Broke down in tears.....no lie
i remember my mom having a small radio in the kitchen. it was the first time i heard it and my mom started singing. hard to believe it was almost 30 years ago!!

I hope people are raising their children on this music.
Yes I am, my kids also listen to other greats like Johnny Cash, The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Tool. I know I am going to sound old but it is hard to find new decent music.
We are buddy, no worries!

I'm gonna show up to your funeral if they play this and I'm going to eat a double Whopper w/cheese and bacon along with a large onion ring and larger fry..... Then, i'm gonna corn hole you in your casket, 'cause that's how I roll.

Al Lamaye chris is the backup singer in this song...
5 years! WOW. RIP Chris....
His voice has and always will give me goosebumps . . . RIP Chris
Sean Seagraves Right???? his cover of Nothing Compares 2U came on Sirius/XM Radio the other day and I seriously had to pull over it was that breathtaking and yes every hair on my arms was standing up!
RIP Chris
Sean Seagraves yeah Eddie vedder from the big Chicago chi town great that's how pearl jam started great stuff
It’s a shame they never made another song together. Their chemistry is amazing. I’d put their voice chemistry next to Jerry Cantrell and Layne Staley’s.
They did a whole album together
@@Ariel_thenotsolittlemermaid …. No this is the only song in the album they both sang in isn’t it? I haven’t listened to it but I’ve been told
@@Ariel_thenotsolittlemermaid yeah I was just talking about the two singers. After doing a little research, Eddie Vedder sang on 3 other songs but that’s it (mostly backing vocals)- I should check this album out soon just haven’t had the time

33 years ago to the day my Brother passed away on Sunday at just shy of 16, I was 21 then. This song and Say Hello to Heaven were heavy hitters to me then. I had to do a throw back. Thank God I now know I will one day see him again in Heaven because I have allowed Jesus Christ to heal my heart. Took many many years of insanity but I finally came through with the help of praying family.
It's really hard to believe that this great guy is not with us anymore.
Yes, still. Can not wrap my mind around it. This music is what I heard when I first heard rock music and was old enough to enjoy it. Will forever be a big part of me
The Best Vocalist Ever. Justice for Chris Cornell
