The ending of the guitar solo always gets me no matter how many times I listen to this song - What a song! what a vocalist! what a band! what a moment in time!

The original Audioslave album is still to this day hands down, one of the best rock albums ever recorded. And even though there has been hundreds of covers of this song, by super talented musicians and groups, no one has ever come close to the orriginal. This song is just flawless.
I know it's been almost a week ago now but , being the HUGE fan I am, it's really started to sink in the last cpl days. I think I've been in disbelief and somewhat in shock. This insanely talented man ....his voice....his lyrics, there can never be another. Thru happy times, sad times, some of the hardest times and life's pivotal moments, his voice carried me, held me, comforted me and pushed me back on my feet again. I just can't fathom the thought that the voice that could give anyone chills is gone forever. R.I.P Mr. Chris Cornell, you may have left our earth but you have also left us with one of the greatest gifts.....your music, and for that, I'll always be grateful.
Sonia Davis I loved the gifts he gave to us all. He was just a musical genius and that voice- will sooth and haunt us. But WE were all here to witness this beautiful soul and I thank him sooo much! Will stay with me forever!!!! Prayers to his family and fans that are struggling with this and he lives through his beautiful voice! Still missing you!!! I can't listen to anything else because it falls short.
@@soniadavis6959 thank you for putting my thoughts into words! Chris Cornell had so much talent. Like his acoustic set in Chicago of Like A Stone, with its additional stanzas, the way he sang Pillow of Your Bones, Sweet Euphoria and other ballads. Loved his rough songs more than I can say, but those ballads, whoa. Wishing you wellness.
Chris' voice is almost hypnotic. One of the best voices of all time. So wish he was still with us. It is so depressing that he is gone. This is a beautiful song. RIP Chris forever.
I remember first hearing Chris' incredible voice when I was 4. I was sitting on the floor in the family living room, and the music video for Black Hole Sun came on. I was instantly hooked, and growing up I was always blown away by Chris' amazing vocal abilities. I loved how he could just belt notes effortlessly and I remember telling myself, "Wow, I wanna do that. I want to belt notes like Chris Cornell." He honestly inspired me to start singing and performing at an early age. So much that I continued with my passion and dream of becoming a musician and a performer, and I recently graduated college with a bachelors degree in Popular Music and performance. Chris Cornell has inspired many and touched many with his beautiful, unforgettable voice. Thank you Chris for the amazing music, talent, love, generosity, and pure heart that you shared with the world. You and your music will NOT be forgotten. Rest easy, we love you forever and ever!
same with me. i was too young to know the band (was about 4 or 5) but even so i keep recognising his voice as i grew up. that's how much impact he has in my childhood until now.
TheMrCIA I'm 51 and at my age when I heard him I was hooked. incredible voice very talented. first heard him with Soundgarden and you I would like his music from then on
To whoever is struggling with depression or anxiety: don't give up, life has struggles, but taking your own life wont help, you will be yourself again, and worry less as time passes, you WILL be strong & you already are ❤
This is my Dad's favourite Audioslave song. When he introduced it to me, I fell in love with it. It sucks that this amazing voice is no longer here with us. Rock in Peace, Chris Cornell ❤
This album, and critics’ general opinion of it at the time of release, is proof that “critics” don’t know shit about shit. This album and n particular this song is some of the most beautifully haunting music u’ll ever hear. I consider it a tragedy that we will never hear a new Chris Cornell song. Literally the only time I ever shed a tear over a famous person’s death.
Chris will forever be my Rock Voice God. He is incomparable. Such a great loss for the entire music world. I hope folks keep coming back to this song and remember that as he was struggling with his inner demons he gave us this gift and so much of himself. Love you always Chris!! ❤️
So true, Chris honestly the first time i heard him was in his first solo album euphoria morning, but then I look for all of him and until this day one of the best voices of Rock
Wait , who's Chris, the singer,? What happened? Sorry I just love this song and video I've watched it so much, something about drummers and guitarists 😍💯😌
Depression isnt a joke.. Its a DIS- EASE of the mind, those days you feel like you cant get up or dont want to do anything, those times we prefer to be alone, ive been in the dark hole of Depression for over half my life.. ive seen strong people fall apart, ive seen people come back from the brink of death.. ive lost many of my friends to depression and suicide.. and i havent even had my 25th birthday yet.. Rest In Peace Chris, your Earthly Body may be gone.. but you will FOREVER live on through your music and through those youve touched and helped with your music... No More Pain.. No More Faking it.. youve done your part mate now its time for you to rest easy and forever in peace...
That was one of the most beautiful comments I've ever read. Thank You for sharing it.. every word courses through my veins because I'm relating on intimate levels. Some days it's all I can do to Just. Keep. Breathing.
Damn I miss Chris! He was phenomenal. That voice was amazing, so raw and emotional. GD mental illnesses. I suffer daily myself but my saving grace are my children and music. I hope anyone else suffering gets help or can find a way to make each day better. RIP Chris Cornell
oh please ..... and let me guess... you just sooo happened to be a huge chester bennington and david bowie fan too.? and cried for hour and hours amd .. yeah no.. giving respect is one thing. but just cuz hes dead doesnt mean you can get away with all that biggest fan bullshit

This song is a timeless masterpiece that delves deep into themes of longing and introspection. Chris Cornell’s haunting vocals paired with the powerful instrumentation create an emotional landscape that resonates with anyone who has ever grappled with love, loss, or the search for purpose. The song’s reflective lyrics invite listeners to connect with their own vulnerabilities, making it an enduring anthem for those in search of meaning. I just wanna say that I’ve been practicing my vocals with this song and it drains me of all my energy crying out to God just like Chris! Rest in peace brother!
We miss you Chris Cornell. Your voice, passion and sound made an indelible mark on an entire generation. You will not be forgotten my friend. May you rest in peace.
To anybody who's reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the dark thoughts, the overthinking, and the doubt exit your mind. May clarity replace confusion. May peace and calmness fill your life.
I've been a fan of Chris Cornell ever since I first heard Soundgarden in the early 90's. I'm not ashamed to say that I cried when he died. Miss you, Chris.
Cobain, Staley and now Cornell, all that is left is Vedder! These youngsters have no idea how influential and amazing their voices were. All four from the Seattle scene and their voices fucking outstanding.. Stay strong Eddie!
this song has always spoke directly to my heart for some reason.. ever since i first heard it when i was really young.. & now i'm in a really dark place mentally, feeling incredibly and painfully alone.. & this song, idk what it is exactly, but Chris Cornell's voice.. it gives me comfort during such a difficult time..
“and on my deathbed, I will pray to the gods and the angels, like a pagan to anyone who will take me to heaven, to a place I recall... I was there so long ago” “and I sat in regret of all the things I've done... for all that I've blessed, and all that I've wronged”
One of the all time greatest artist we all still and will truly miss along with his good brother Chester. May they rest in peace as well as Dolores from the Cranberries. Beautiful souls.
Been listening to this song for weeks now not knowing the meaning.... now at 4am I couldn't sleep as I try to pray and feel what I feel about the life I'm living feeling lost and overwhelmed... then I realised damn this song is about spirituality and faith... as I understand it now ... "Like a stone" is Chris' expression of being lost (cobwebs and emptiness) in faith (book) in the first verse as he awaits in God's house, waiting if God will take him back in the chorus. He remembers his younger days as he misses the feeling of belonging (also in the chorus) in his faith (wine was bled? catholic?) as the second verse states. Bridge states that he is reading on (maybe the bible) trying his best to return, feel warmth of the past, peace and the feeling of being worthy again, explaining his regrets and blessings and losing hope if it will be only in his dreams or it will be just death (wander on) of being found by God again.. maybe He was talking to God maybe he was waiting for God to save him, as he was waiting Like A Stone..
Chris and Tom Morello (guitarist) were a force to be reckoned with. Chris's vocals combined with Tom's unique sound producing techniques like in this very song just work so well together. Rest of the ex Rage Against The Machine members are talented too. Legends.
My father called this song his favorite. He was an artist, a poet, and a soldier. It was only until he died from drinking did i realized the depths of abyss he traversed daily. Now that I'm old enough i find myself too navigating this same Darkness, Alone. Only through my dad I've come this far and only because of him I'll live past where he passed.
I'm so proud of you even though I don't know you. I'm sure he would want you to be better than him and the best version of yourself. Life is hard and nobody is prepared for this shit but we can try our best. ❤
Same here, your story hit me deep. As this year I've traversed some painful past similarities cptsd and I've outlived the years my dad succumb to darkness on this earth. I used to question if I would myself, but I'm pushing to stay in this life and do better for my kids...deep level shit.
The Darkness gives birth to Dawn. My BFF said The night is the realm of ghosts. Our job is to get to the Dawn. That's when they disappear. May your father guide you. We never die. We just change outfits. I love you because you are a sentient being. See you wherever
This song is about an old man waiting to die. He has out lived his family/friends and is alone just waiting patiently to die and be with his loved ones once more. I love this song just like so many others. This band is one of my favorites and I sure do miss them. Rip Chris, even though you are gone your voice and music will live forever!!!
Or it could be about someone on the death row... Or about a slave who remembers when they were free... The beauty with songs is that they can mean whatever you need them to when you listen to them... Particularly when they're sung by such an expressive artist 💔
Don't forget Dolores O'Riordan. In fact, we've lost a lot of great talent in both the music and movie/television industries in the past 2-3 years. I grew up listening and watching these great human beings and it saddens me to know that we'll never get to listen to their newest album or watch the newest movie/television show they've stared in, but they all have left a great legacy that we can look back at again and again in great and immeasurable fondness.
I really wish I was born in the 90’s instead of this generation! I love all these bands and I’m so sad because I feel like there are either broke up or someone’s dead.. But I love their music all the same! Rest In Peace guys...
My mom played this for my dad on his deathbed & he hummed along 😭 this was his favorite song and I come listen to it when I miss him extra. It’s one of those days 😢
As if mental health needed a bigger eye opener. To lose someone so loved by a lot of people worldwide, who spoke to them not many musicians can, to what might be suicide or at least mental health issues, is frightening. It's obvious that his amazing songwriting came from within, and spoke deeply and personally, which is why so many people connected with him and his music. Mental health is a serious issue and this is why mental health and mental health week needs to be addressed, it's not a taboo, people need people to talk to and to be listened by. For someone like Chris, with so many fans and so much love from around the globe, this speaks volumes as to how mental health can affect someone and it not be addressed or even noticed. RIP Chris, I was shocked when I read about your death yesterday morning. A serious talent and another master gone too soon, I really hope, if anything, this causes a reaction so people take mental health more seriously. Thank you Chris for speaking to me on a personal level, I too, have fallen on Black Days, but you were there to help me. It's going to take a long time to get over this one, and it's by far the biggest death of 2017. RIP Chris
We all know we gonna die and lose loved ones one day but nothing quite prepare us for when it actually happens. Thank you Chris for being there when i most needed. R.I.P
I literally feel his voice deep within my soul. I was a music major and can feel a lot of music but Chris…his voice touched my soul in a way none other ever will.
A great alternative adult radio station in Chicago, WXRT 93.1, plays his solo and band songs. I presume you heard his solo album that was released not long before his tragic death. I really think he's one of rock's most underrated vocalists.
@@paulladniak3954 oh yes. I am a lifelong and career long fan of Chris. Fell in love with Black Hole Sun when I was 10 and from that point I was obsessed. I’ve been front row at many an Audioslave concert and even was lucky enough to get to go to a meet and greet and speak to him, shake his hand and get a picture and an autograph. I cried my eyes out the day he died. Even my friends and family texted or called me to say they were sorry to me as if I lost my own family member lol. But his music saved my life literally. Carried me through my drug addiction and then Audioslaves second solo album kept me sane while in rehab. Now 13 years later and clean I listen to his music whenever I need a therapy session.
It's purity, bro... watch Chris's eyes throughout the video- you'll see that he's not "there"- with the rest of the band... he's baring his soul.. to anybody who'll listen. Unfortunately for too many of us.. others rarely hear our cries for help.. and even more unfortunate- almost none of those who hear them, actually understand their meaning...
This song means so much to me. I listen to this song whenever I’m going through rough, rough times in my life. This song makes me feel heard, it helps ease me for the day. Thank you Chris 🙏❤️ for this amazing song. On repeat 24/7 🫶🏼
Lyrics Now!: On a cobweb afternoon In a room full of emptiness By a freeway I confess I was lost in the pages Of a book full of death Reading how we'll die alone And if we're good, we'll lay to rest Anywhere we want to go In your house, I long to be Room by room, patiently I'll wait for you there Like a stone I'll wait for you there Alone And on my deathbed I will pray To the gods and the angels Like a pagan to anyone Who will take me to heaven To a place I recall I was there so long ago The sky was bruised The wine was bled And there you led me on In your house, I long to be Room by room, patiently I'll wait for you there Like a stone I'll wait for you there Alone Alone And on I read Until the day was gone And I sat in regret Of all the things I've done For all that I've blessed And all that I've wronged In dreams until my death I will wander on In your house, I long to be Room by room, patiently I'll wait for you there Like a stone I'll wait for you there Alone Alone
A mais bela voz do rock. Na mais bela canção. De todos os tempos. Não importa a letra. Absorve quem quer.
R.I.P CHIEF. This very song was why a black kid from the southside of Houston began to listen to alternative rock. It was 18 years ago and your music is still timeless.
I was at a karaoke celebrating my arrival in L.A. after 71 days wandering on the road across the continent when this song came on. Whoever requested it didn't take the stage, and the song just played. When it came time for the vocals to kick in, the entire audience burst out singing. Until that moment, I thought this song was something I adored but few others knew. Imagine my shock when these voices sprang up all around me. We were almost through the first stanza when the requester rushed back to claim the song. They cut the music and restarted it, but for a few more glorious seconds, we just kept singing. Just a chorus of voices, no music. For once, instead of swimming against the current, I felt in sync with the world. For a moment, the world was moving in my direction, singing my song, and welcoming me to join in. I will forever associate this song with that feeling of being connected to and a part of this world. Thank you, Chris. Your voice was with me through the wilderness, while I was lost in the cities and alone in the hills... and it was there again to welcome me back to civilization. Because of your songs, though I wandered, I did not wander alone.
What an asshole that requester must have been to break in after showing up late -.- At first I thought someone had requested the song with the intention of not going on stage...
Well done my friend. I don't know who you are, and you don't know who I am. Chris is gone and no one sings like him anymore and that's ok. He drowned his fears till we all just disappeared, but left his voice for you and I, till we can no longer hear. You are not alone.
RIP, what an awesome singer and artist, you left a mark in many people who listened to your music and outstanding live performances, my thoughts are with your family as you will always be remembered like...a stone
I cried so much when he died. I could have seen him live in my country, but I wasn't a fan back then, and I didn't know HOW MUCH his music would have helped me in the future. All the signs were there 😢
My dad always had this as his ringtone. I remember first hearing this song when I was around 5 or 6. Now, around a month ago, I managed to find it without knowing it's name. It feels so good to be able to play it whenever

"On my deathbed I will pray to the gods and the angels, like a pagan to anyone who will take me to heaven" I hope you found your peace Chris. Rest easy brother
I deal with depression myself. Often idealizing death. It haunts me every day. Wondering when I’ll take that leap. Each day it’s own challenge. I really do feel your pain. My beliefs keep me alive for now.

Saw an interview of the band n they thought it was a love song but chris explained its a guy in a hotel room contemplating death, missing those hed lost n waiting to die. Became so profound to me in that moment
When my time cones to pass from this world i want this played at my funeral so i can hear Chris's voice one last time before i truly depart this world into the next. You will never be forgotten Chris, you were truly one of a kind in all aspects of existence! Rest Easy! 🙏🏽✨👼🏽🕊️
I have never suffered the death of an artist as much as I have Cornell's. Three days later and I cry him like I lost a best friend. RIP, No one sings like you anymore.
Zombiezareus I"m the same way. I'm always sad from the death of my fav artists. Kurt was the worst until now, but this death has hurt me more than all the others.
Zombiezareus I cried too idk even know why I was not the biggest fan but I did love the songs that I knew. I always respected that Audioslave existed too because I thought it was unfortunate that Rage couldn't continue anymore but the three guys still made something great happen and they chose Chris Cornell as a singer! Amazing choice. They got to showcase a new sound together and I'm sure Chris had a lot influence on the whole thing. Soundgarden was always such a "cool" band to me as a kid. I'm really glad I got to see a show by them in 2010. Just a sad loss overall guess thats why it hit me so hard.
One Of the greatest Written Rock Song ever in the Universe this will live from generation to generations to come this masterpiece will never die R .I.P Chris 🙏

I’ve known this song since I was 9 years old I’m 22 now and all this time I thought it was “reading I will die alone” instead of “reading how we’ll die alone”
This song hurts every fiber in my being, yet I still listen to it because it's the last thing I have left. This song was playing on the radio when I was driving in my car to see my grandpa. I got the news that he passed while this song was playing. I had to pull over on the freeway because I was crying so hard. I miss him more than words can say. He was unlike any other person and my world will never be the same again.
It's always the hardest to lose those we idolize. My grandpa was also my personal hero and idol, and I wanted to be like him when I got older. Now that I am older, I only feel I disappoint his memory. It's always been this song that brought me closure with him, and makes me think more deeply on what I should do next.
I remember this being the first Audioslave song i ever heard when i was kid on my new portable CD player, It still gives me goosebumps to this day. Amazing song and band. Rest In Peace Chris Cornell. An absloute legend.
Same here, never knew who this guy or the band was, only when I found out after a few years later, thanks to my dad, I was finally able to listen to it once again, still a shame we lost him, but he'll always remain a singing legend of Alternative Rock, along with Chester Bennington 😔💔🎤
Now that i'm older, this song hits so different than when i was innocent and just loved rock music. This made me contemplate about life & death. So powerful its scary.
Life and the after life do make us ponder. I believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for my sins, changed me and restored my family. It took Him finding me in a jail cell. I found a Rescued not Arrested Bible and my life and family have never been happier/better. Wish you the same. Have a wonderful day ahead!

5 long years.... I remember walking to work and seeing an article about Chris's decision to end the pain. Personally I've been through a lot since then. I must say, while I intimately understand the feelings and decisions.... life is short. Fight forever. You can always die tomorrow, but after you're gone that's it. You only have to fight for tomorrow, that's it. Odd how the death of someone you never knew can leave an impression.

It seems like we loose the greats in music to early in life due to tragedies some that could of been prevented and some that couldn’t like the tragic shooting of Dimebag Darrel and plane crashes that killed Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper,Richie Valens just to name a few. Senseless Deaths, Artists who left this world too soon
This song is a MASTER PIECE and timeless. No importa cuanto tiempo haya pasado sigue siendo de mis favoritas, por esta canción empezó mi amor por el rock
That's it? 7 yrs? Feels like longer. Miss the man. It's always the ones with the greatest spirits. Look out for the ones who are so not shallow. Lighten their depths. It's a must.

This man voice was so good that he could sing in the same exact pitch live, without autotune or anything, just him and the microphone. That's how you know a singer is really incredible. RIP Chris Cornell, we will never forget your voice and your legacy in music.
What an incredible talent. You will forever be remembered Chris.

This is, in my opinion a well structured song, but Chris’ vocals and Tom’s solo in particular, give me chills every time.
It's perfect
what this guy is singing about gives me chills
Sorry, Morrello's solos are an insult to Cornell. There are 100 guitarists who would do better.
My opinion is the same. Both are incredible artist. Chris and Tom are top notch! Tom's young son has mastered guitar!

When I was reading your comment I realized your connection to his music was very similar to my connection with his music, thank you for sharing.
same with me. i was too young to know the band (was about 4 or 5) but even so i keep recognising his voice as i grew up. that's how much impact he has in my childhood until now.

Yeah bro was hooping for sure wish he was still alive to sing 🎤
Yes, a tremendous loss (。•́︿•̀。)
Breaks my heart every time I hear this excellent song. Gone way too soon, like so many other greats.

In your house l long to be , powerful

Lyrics Now!:
On a cobweb afternoon
In a room full of emptiness
By a freeway I confess
I was lost in the pages
Of a book full of death
Reading how we'll die alone
And if we're good, we'll lay to rest
Anywhere we want to go
In your house, I long to be
Room by room, patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone
And on my deathbed I will pray
To the gods and the angels
Like a pagan to anyone
Who will take me to heaven
To a place I recall
I was there so long ago
The sky was bruised
The wine was bled
And there you led me on
In your house, I long to be
Room by room, patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone
Alone
And on I read
Until the day was gone
And I sat in regret
Of all the things I've done
For all that I've blessed
And all that I've wronged
In dreams until my death
I will wander on
In your house, I long to be
Room by room, patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone
Alone
Thank you :)

Beautiful memory. That is what music is all about!
What an asshole that requester must have been to break in after showing up late -.- At first I thought someone had requested the song with the intention of not going on stage...
Damn, _there I go cryin' again._ That was F'n beautiful. It would be cool if you could share that with his family.
My Sharona ahhh my heart hurts

Getting older, music just opens up more and more.
Crazy how that works, isn’t it?

Zombiezareus I hear ya man

Today, 5 years ago we lost Chris. He is not completely gone, as he left a piece of himself with us, in his music. RIP
And it's the only part of him left behind. God damn. Like a stone, Chris hit us hard.
He left A Huge piece of himself for ever in Music History.

Lyrics:
On a cobweb afternoon
In a room full of emptiness
By a freeway, I confess
I was lost in the pages
Of a book full of death
Reading how we'll die alone
And if we're good, we'll lay to rest
Anywhere we wanna go
In your house
I long to be
Room by room
Patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone
And on my deathbed, I will pray
To the gods and the angels
Like a pagan, to anyone
Who will take me to heaven
To a place I recall
I was there so long ago
The sky was bruised, the wine was bled
And there you led me on
In your house
I long to be
Room by room
Patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone
Alone
And on I read
Until the day was gone
And I sat in regret
Of all the things I've done
For all that I've blessed
And all that I've wronged
In dreams until my death
I will wonder on
In your house
I long to be
Room by room
Patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone
Alone
Unrivalled.

I’ve known this song since I was 9 years old I’m 22 now and all this time I thought it was “reading I will die alone” instead of “reading how we’ll die alone”
Thank you
I love this video, and love this song. It's beautiful.
Thanks for filling my teenage years with memories of great music, Sir. Rest In Peace.
I cry with you!!!
It's always the hardest to lose those we idolize. My grandpa was also my personal hero and idol, and I wanted to be like him when I got older. Now that I am older, I only feel I disappoint his memory. It's always been this song that brought me closure with him, and makes me think more deeply on what I should do next.
@@kefkamadman I am sure he smiles down on you my friend. I guarantee he is proud he made such an impact on you and your life. Live well friend

Same here, never knew who this guy or the band was, only when I found out after a few years later, thanks to my dad, I was finally able to listen to it once again, still a shame we lost him, but he'll always remain a singing legend of Alternative Rock, along with Chester Bennington 😔💔🎤

Thanx to you brother , I'm fighting for each and every tomorrow and it gets easier 👍
