  • Our online series of Live & Ticking webinars keep you updated with the latest British Heart Foundation (BHF) funded science taking place across the UK.
In this special edition, in partnership with Diabetes UK, we learn how genetics, age, and lifestyle factors impact your risk of developing diabetes and how this can affect the heart.
    Event speakers:
Fearghal McKinney - Head of BHF Northern Ireland hosts and guides us through this webinar by introducing some of the BHF-funded research into diabetes and posing viewers’ questions to our panel of experts.
Stephanie Kudzin - Nutritionist from Diabetes UK Clinical Team discusses the difference between type 1 and 2 diabetes, the prevalence of the condition and the support that Diabetes UK offers.
David Swales - BHF supporter and keen runner talks about being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and having a stroke after completing a 10k run, which resulted in 40% loss of his eyesight, aphasia (which causes difficulty with speech), and suffering cognitive fatigue.
Yianna Theodorou - BHF Senior Research Engagement Officer helps to navigate through David’s story.
Professor Mark Kearney - Clinical Cardiologist and BHF Professor of Cardiovascular and Diabetes Research at the University of Leeds, explains his research which aims to develop new treatments for people with diabetes, as well as improve our understanding of the link between diabetes and heart disease.
