In February of 2021 I was told that I was fully diabetic (type 2) when my morning test came in at 8.1. My doctor wanted to put me on meds and I refused, I asked him to give me 6 months to reverse it, reluctantly he gave me 4 months. I went on keto and intermitten fasting and in 4 months my a1c test came in at 4.9. He was shocked! He told me I am diabetic for life and that diabetes cannot be reversed and asked me to retest in 3 months which again came in at 4.9. One year later my diet is still low carb and I am still at A1c 4.9. I will keep this up for as long as I can...

I ate 2 meals a day with a 17 / 7 IF window.. I have stage 3 kidney disease with a egfr of 51and 1.5 creatinine. My blood tests came back yesterday and showed a creatine level of 1.1 and egfr of 67 effectively reversing my kidney disease. My a1c went from 6 to 5.1. I also lost 30 lbs along the way. I already try a lot's of thing including fasting like Dr Fung talks but it doesn't work, do you know why, I don't.

@@FilipeJorgeSilva I am not sure what you mean by "it doesn't work", but I suppose you have heard about "miraculous" intermittent fasting, and you just decided one day to give it a go. After years and years of consuming high carbs diet, of course you will get crazy hungry after 24hrs and won't be able to continue. You have to understand there is a preparation process, which starts by reducing carbs for a certain period of time, until your body switches from glucose burning to fat burning mode, until you notice you spontaneously stop craving food and go naturally longer and longer periods of time without food as your appetite decrease. This period, called adaptation, usually last between 4-6 weeks or longer. Only after the adaptation phase your body is ready for prolonged fast. As long as you continue with low carb regime, you can repeat fast as often as you wish without any preparation, or keep going with daily intermittent fasting (like 18:6 i.e.) There are many articles and videos about IF and adaptation process. Study it before you declare defeat! Best of luck!

Dr. Fung’s presentations have been a key in my journey of reversing diabetes. Three years ago the test strip came in at 220 and a1c was over 11. After a month of intermittent fasting and 2-3 months of diet I lost over 35lbs, blood sugar was 90 and a1c came down to 6. I just cut out sugar and carbs, didn’t even excercise. So yes it definetely works.

Last June I was 300 pounds, diabetic type 2 on insulin, injecting 350 units per day. Heading directly into a total disaster. I'm diabetic since 25 years, 10 years on insulin. I tried diets, exercises, calorie counting. Nothing worked. About 10 years ago, I was told by my doctor that losing enough weight could maybe get me rid of diabetes. I was gaining weight year after year during this pandemic. So I decided to figure out a diet for my condition. I included low carbohydrate diet, high protein, fasting and after a while added exercises. In 6 months, I lost 100 pounds, I'm totally off insulin since the last 10 days. For my doctor and nurse that follow me, it's a miracle. 1 month ago I found this video. The theories of Dr Jason Fung goes exactly in the same way I figured. That the problem was insulin and not diabetes. High blood sugar is the symptom. Dr Fung, you are blessed. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, your dedication to diabetics and instigating hope to those who suffer from this terrible disease.

I read this blokes book and immediately enacted upon it. Revolutionary. I do the 36 hour fast and low carb when I do eat, and I've dropped 25 kg and am officially off insulin. All I need to do is to keep fasting/exercising ( saves money too ) - his book made sense and was very easy to use. I highly recommend it to anyone who asks me. Been doing it for 3 -4 years. If you are wondering 36 hour fasting becomes easier and easier.

It has taken me this long to understand the benefits of intermittent fasting combined with low carb diet. The difference is a psychological one changing from thinking this a desperate short term diet and thinking I am a victim unable to eat like other people to realising this way of eating is “normal”. I am now eating as God intended. Everything we need is present in creation and the body is miraculously designed to adapt to changing circumstances. This is distorted by eating processed high carb foods causing numerous illnesses. Following Jason’s explanation is brilliant. It works!

I cured my type 2 diabetes in a month from eating ketovore . I experienced heavy thirst, peeing and blurry vision in Jan of 2023 . I Knew the signs of diabetes and checked my blood sugers. They were 9.5 and didn't go down. I had full blown type 2 diabetes .I didn't bother going to Dr. I immediately stopped eating., then I did an almost carnivore diet....fasted,...exercised and was non diabetic in one month. My Cgm moniter showed that I had achieved insulin sensitivity as shown by periodic carbs intakes. A high spike of blood glucose and then a normal flat line. Type 2 diabetes is the bodies response to carbohydrate toxicity. The solution is simple....no carbs. I credit Dr Fungs book, the Obesity code, along with all the Low Carb Drs for my success.

And your metabolism can be fixed. The body heals and repairs itself . In regards to metabolism its called mitophagy and mitosis. 4 months on a ketogenic diet can increase new mitochondria by 400%. My metabolism is not wrecked anymore. Its been rebooted. I personally have no problems with cortisol but if I did I would simply add in some low glycemic veggies...like a bit of carrot in my evening meal. This seems to circumvent cortisol spikes in the evening for those genetically prone to high levels but still keeps the carbs low enough to keep the body in fat burning mode. On the rare occassion that I do eat carbs my body now handles them quite easily. The CGM monitor does not lie.

In 2003 I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. With a strong family history of it (my dad lost both legs due to diabetes), I just accepted that I was dealt a crummy hand and took glipizide and metformin as prescribed. I tried to control it with the meds and diet, but I'd take one step forward and 3 steps back. My A1c continued to inch up little by little. In 2022 I went for my check up and my A1c was 10.1, the highest it's ever been. I had started experiencing neuropathy in both feet months prior and remembering my dad and his amputations, I decided to get serious. I tossed all sugar, stopped eating carbs completely, would drink a diabetic meal replacement shake in the morning, then have my meal of proteins and vegetables mid-day. Another meal replacement shake in the evening. Six months later then I went back for my next checkup, I had lost 97 pounds and my A1c was 5.4! I've had a few setbacks since then (illness/injury), and I feel the weight I put back on, but I won't give up.

And I noticed even 30 years ago that the only diet that worked for me was the Atkins. But I'd lose enough weight to where I was comfortable and then go back to my normal diet of bread, pasta and sweets. So basically I've concluded after many experiments that I'm carb intolerant. So very own carb with some intermittent fasting as recommended by Dr Fung along with regular exercise was the answer for me. Besides effortless weight control and normalized Blood Glucose, I noticed a huge change in mood and energy levels. I once suffered from frequent episodes of depression and mood swings. No more. Also gone are the up and down energy levels throughout the day. I still have my struggles with the carb addiction especially when on vacation but I know this has to be a lifetime woe for me.

I found this video in March of 2023. This made so much sense to me. For the first time in my life I felt I had a grasp on the diabetes that I had been struggling with for decades. A disease that continued to progress. My A1C had increased to 7.8! (Even though I thought I was trying very hard to “eat right”.)And I was taking 2 meds (metformin and glipizide) I showed the video to a couple of people with medical backgrounds to make sure the science was sound. They both assured me that the science was spot on and even decided to make some changes themselves in their own lifestyle. I began to implement the low carb diet and the intermittent fasting. 10 months later my A1C is 6.2 and I have dropped 40 lbs. My doctor is thrilled. I feel hopeful for the first time that I can soon reach a normal A1C. Thank you so much Dr. Fung!!!!!'!!!!! I’m no longer on Metformin or glipizide.

I do not know what the latest scientific literature says, but I know that by the A1C diagnostic criterion, after losing 80 pounds, I am no longer considered diabetic after many years of insulin shots. I used intermittent fasting and it is now part of my lifestyle. Though I am not a "patient" of Dr. Fong (I live in Italy), but following the advice I got here, my blood studies are normal. My endocrinologist say she has never seen anything like it in 20 years of practice. I actually had to argue with her to take me off insulin using the current information I got here from Dr. Fung and, to her credit, she listened and checked the literature herself. At my examinations 3 and 6 months post discontinuation of insulin, my A1C went down in the blood studies. I cannot thank Dr. Fong enough!

Jason Fung is a rockstar! "Type 2 Diabetes" - or as Fung more correctly calls it here - "Chronic Hyperinsulinemia" is arguably the most serious, widespread chronic metabolic problem of modern society, costing trillions of dollars a year in health care for chronic diseases including heart disease and kidney problems. Modern medicine has been treating the symptom, high blood sugar, when much more success would accrue from treating the underlying problem, hyperinsulinemia. Cells suffer from having too much glucose already there, backing up glucose into the blood. This is a presentation that every health care provider treating any metabolic disorder should know so well they could reconstruct it nearly word for word. To pharaphrase a recent VP, this is a big deal.

I then tested on month 4 and my A1C was 5.5, and I essentially reversed my NAFLD. My ALT numbers were totally normal. God bless Dr Fung

This is so assuring. I am 52 yo, and have struggled with keeping my a1c to below 6, with my sugar craving out of control as it became more and more a comfort food to combat stress or my busy schedule. I thought body and appetite will just go out of control since my late mother and grandmother is diabetic and died of multiple organ failure. I really thought there is absolutely nothing I can do about it until you showed a clear map of what will happen and what can happen instead with fasting. You are really God sent, Dr Jason Fung

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 📊 Traditional thinking on type 2 diabetes suggested it's irreversible due to pancreatic burnout.
03:02 🔄 In 2021, the American Diabetes Association introduced diabetes remission criteria, indicating reversibility.
05:08 🍽️ Strategies like bariatric surgery, fasting, and low-carb diets have shown success in reversing type 2 diabetes.
08:18 🔑 Understanding insulin resistance as an overflow problem, not internal starvation, helps in treating type 2 diabetes.
23:07 🚫 Giving more insulin doesn't resolve the issue of hyperinsulinemia in type 2 diabetes; it exacerbates it.
23:21 💡 Type 2 diabetes and obesity are linked to fatty liver and excess insulin; losing weight can reverse these conditions.
24:03 💡 The problem isn't a malfunctioning insulin receptor but having too much insulin in the body, often caused by dietary changes since the 1970s.
26:29 💡 Treating the overflow of glucose, not just blood glucose, is crucial in managing type 2 diabetes.
31:09 💡 The beta cell dysfunction in the pancreas is often reversible when the fatty pancreas is addressed, challenging the idea of permanent burnout.
34:22 💡 Type 2 diabetes consists of interconnected liver and pancreatic cycles related to ectopic fat deposition; it's one disease, not two distinct conditions.

I was diabetic with HBa1c 6.8 learnt a lot from your videos, then started treating my self with Low carb high fat diet & IF, reduced my weight down by 16 kg to a BMI 22 my weight is 62 Kg now, ( no further room to reduce :) ) all this bring down my HBa1c to 5.3. Now I am just maintaining it since 1.5 years. this makes me interest to study Keto, Low carb, IF & dry fasting, now I am volunteering by treating other people to reverse Obesity, diabetes PCOs etc. This lecture is a class of its king it explain insulin resistance & fatty liver in detail and even a layman person like me understood the basic concept. Once again thank you Dr Fung.

I’m so thankful that I found your link. I was suffering with high A1C levels over 11. Nothing seemed to help me so my endocrinologist kept increasing my doses of insulin. Of course I was blowing up in weight. My numbers were not improving. The doctor told me that the insulin was not causing the problems. That I could win the Pulitzer if I could ever figure out diabetes because no one understands it. After I read your book I stopped taking insulin and began to use insulin as a preventative measure to control my blood sugar spikes. My A1C levels were now @ 6.7. I lost 68 pounds in less than a year. Now I have stopped losing weight and began to start gaining weight again. I believe that stress is a big factor in this. I did to re read your book and catch up on your new work. Thank you for sharing everything you have learned. It gives us all hope we are not doomed.
