  • Our online series of Live & Ticking webinars keep you updated with the latest British Heart Foundation (BHF) funded science taking place across the UK.
In this edition, we learn how having high blood pressure - or hypertension - puts you at risk of many conditions including heart attack, stroke, and vascular dementia.
    Event speakers:
Fearghal McKinney - Head of BHF Northern Ireland hosts and guides us through this webinar by introducing some of the BHF-funded research into high blood pressure and posing viewers’ questions to our panel of experts.
Joyce Agyare-Twum - Member of BHF’s Health Content Team talks about being diagnosed with high blood pressure while in her 30s and taking steps to change her lifestyle to help reduce her condition, including growing her own fruits and vegetables to adapting her traditional Ghanaian cooking.
Yianna Theodorou - BHF Senior Research Engagement Officer helps to navigate through Joyce’s story.
Professor Bryan Williams - BHF’s Chief Scientific and Medical Officer is recognised as one of the UK’s most influential clinical leaders and a world-leading cardiovascular research expert in the field of high blood pressure, discusses what hypertension is and the research conducted into the condition.
Professor Maciej Tomaszewski - Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at University of Manchester discusses his research into understanding how hypertension is inherited through families, and investigating how gene activity in the kidney could make certain people more likely to develop high blood pressure.
