Super helpful! I was going through this dilemma the past few weeks, as it is getting colder in the fall in my state! Thank you for the advice!!! There are so MANY styles of jeans this year, that you really have to have a variety of footwear.
I love a good show and tell. The black sweater and jeans example, incredible how much the simple change of shoes made. Honestly i had to look twice because I really thought you changed the jeans!
It's so difficult to get just the right length on a pair of jeans especially since I usually need a petite length, but even those can sometimes be too long or short. So frustrating to get the right fit. Anyone else struggle with this?
It definitely is a struggle to find the perfect length but getting as close as possible is the goal and the right shoes can make them look the right length if the are a little short or longer which I think mine vary by style. I'm 5'4" and petites are always too short on me so I just have to try different brand to see what works best. Thanks for your thoughts! ❤️
I sure did! At 5'3 I've become really mindful of the inseam length and heel height I'll purchase (don't sew much, unfortunately), and focus on 28" inseams with flat(ter) shoes or 30" with 2"-2.5" boot heels, accordingly. That seems to reduce most of my frustration! 😄
Hah. This afternoon I spent HOURS styling my jeans with winter footwear. I did great, as you suggest, with my cropped straight, cropped wide, wide leg, boot cut and regular length straight. Where I was stymied is with tucking my SKINNY jeans into tall boots, mostly flat with a rubber sole for Canadian winters. I tried to go as low contrast as possible as I have several pairs of boots in various shades of brown and of course in black. But it sure was hard, once I added a blazer or a leather jacket, not to look like a motorcycle cop. Gahhhhh. I can't wear heels when there's ice.
It sounds like you got it mostly figured out! I love your efforts! I understand with the skinny jeans and maybe try some chunky sweaters instead of the jackets or wear a cropped jacket if it works.?
@@YourGuideToStyle I'm not a chunky sweater girl. They overwhelm me. A cropped blazer, of which I have many, seems kinda skimpy with skinny jeans. But I'll give it a shot. Thanks for your advice.
I have a thick waist so finding a pair of jeans is very difficult for me and I just opened a pair that I ordered from Amazon and they fit me perfectly and they are wide leg which is a first for me. I clicked on this video for this very reason, because I didn’t know what shoe to wear. I’m five 7 1/2 so maybe that helps and I also think that proportion plays a big role. If i wear a loose top or a cardi that’s too loose and then wide jeans it just looks frumpy on me. I’ve just been seeing them everywhere so I thought I’d give them a try And I like the comment about how t she survived the 70s. Lol me too but I’d liked those clothes! I had a lot of fun. 🍁
I'm so glad you found a pair you like! Thank for watching and I also have a video on styling wide leg jeans from a couple months ago your should check out!
Oof. All the jeans except for the wide leg were too short, and YES the chunky shoes with the wide leg actually DO look good. That’s how we wore them in the 90s. The slimmer shoes with the wide leg looks off.
I also like a chunky shoe or a comfy cute sneaker with wide leg or flared jeans. I go way back-- that's how we wore them in the 1970s too! But now at my age, I must go for comfort: no higher heels, no narrow pointed toes on shoes, ever. Yes, it looks "ladylike" or "elegant," but at what cost to comfort, and actual risk of injury? Not worth it.
The black loafers are just too dark to go with most of my clothes. I don't buy black shoes, because they are a headache to pair with anything, and I don't have black clothing because I'm a neutral, soft autumn, it overwhelms my coloring. But I like the color and wish I could wear it. I maybe could wear a pair of black jeans, but I would wear gray, brown or camel colored shoes with them. I like the straight leg jeans pretty good, they are versatile. I like the flare jeans the best though, they go with anything...and the skinny....lol! No one is taking my skinny's!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and tips! Those color combinations with black are great and you should try that! If you love your skinny jeans definitely keep them! 😀
Nothing cropped looks good for me. Not tops, not bottoms. It just looks like it’s just too short… 😂 Any pants length should reach the floor on bear foot. That’s the rule. I might be old fashioned but that’s the rule 😂
Nothing cropped looks good on anyone ( young , old, tall, short). They look mal proportional on anyone and the shoes are not fixing anything. Just say no to cropped wide leg jeans.
and the pendulum swings once again🤷 I like the wider leg, as a former wearer of palazzo pants, ions ago. BUT, the cropped length is a no go for me. You can't get around that look of waiting for a flood, or my jeans have shrunk. Nothing stylish about either look, imo.
Chunky loafers shout frump to me. I would rather wear a classic traditional loafer on my size 8 tootsies. Their fine on smaller size feet. I see a lot that I like, just not for me. Great alternatives in the video. Well done, tfs.
Still very confusing... Not because of you but because of all the different types of jeans, lengths, shoes, heel height... I personally don't have time to figure all this out everytime I'm getting dressed. I also don't own all these different kind of shoes... I don't like or use any kind of heel. It was so much easier when it was only skinny jeans...
It was easier when it was skinny jeans! One good thing to remember is if you have a jean that is ankle length it should hit about an inch above your ankle and the jeans should not sit on top of the shoe but hover about it or the shaft should go under the leg of the pant or jeans. That might help some! Thank for watching! ❤️
Woooo! Don’t think those leopard sneakers at the end of this video are attractive at all! Also, why do they always make the soles white on those cute khaki canvas sneakers?? Much more attractive with the soles matching the shoe. Looks cheap the other way.
I like the crop jeans.. Ive seen some great looks with cropped jeans that look classic with a bit of an edge to them..I love the wide leg jeans with sneakers.. I think it gives it a very casual but chic look.. I don’t necessarily think it looks chunky. I enjoy the classic looks mix with a little masculinity..i think it looks very chic but simple.. I do like flats gives outfits a polished look but so sorry.. I think mary janes just looks are hideous too aging…I think it just ruins the look of an outfit
@@YourGuideToStylewhen not in leggings, joggers, or biker shorts (I’m a personal trainer), I like long flared jeans, distressed relaxed fit, and skinny jeans with high boots. I also love all my pants to touch the floor!
I love how you did this side by side comparison. Please continue with this format. Works well!!
Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad it works well!
Great video, Jamie! I hope you continue in this vein and make another one with suggestions for slim straight, bootcut and flares! ❤
Thank you and I definitely need to do another one with other styles like you mentioned!
Jeans too short - don’t look good with any shoes. Pants too short.
thanks so much! very helpful. There are so many styles of jeans available now, it gets daunting to pick the correct shoes!
I know! It can be a little overwhelming, but I hope this video helps!
I just don’t like cropped wide leg jeans. On my petite frame, I feel that cropped wide leg jeans give a frumpy appearance.
I agree they can look grumpy but I think the right pair and the right shoes can look good. Thanks for sharing!
Looks cheap
yes, I loathe cropped wide legs pants on anyone. I find them totally unattractive. UCK.
Great video! I love that because I go through my shoe closet and try on different shoes when I have an outfit on and wonder is this the right shoe?
I'm glad you found it helpful!

Experimenting on my own is second nature, but it's fun to watch her ideas.

You look amazing in the leopard print blouse!
Thank you!
Like the comparisons. Very helpful advice. Very nice video.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the comparisons!
Fun video. I am still searching for the right pair of wide leg jeans and have not found them. Love the suede sneakers.
Did you look at the Old Navy WOW wide leg jeans or Madewell's perfect vintage wide leg jeans? Those are my favorites.
@ no, I have not tried those. Thank you for the suggestion.
Great advice ❤
Thanks!

Check out the loafers that aren’t quite as chunky, you might be surprised 😊
I love chunky loafers, they keep the ink pins at work from being able to stab me when stepped on lol
Thank you for showing the “flats” version. 😊

Not a fan of cropped jeans no matter what shoe.
I understand.
It’s all in the details! 🎉
Thanks! I agree!
Ill be glad when high waters are not popular.
I'm happy that so many different styles are available!
Frumpy high waters, they are for around the house, wear cut outs or flip flops with them.😊
I’ve seen UK influencers wearing loose straight jeans with tall boots and it just looks so messy. I hope that doesn’t catch on.
Interesting, it's really not a good look in my opinion. Thanks for sharing!
Wide legs and flats, sorry but no way. A heel is a must.❤😊
It does look better but some people cannot wear heels and I think it's an ok option.

NO. i think it is the jeans with the first jeans
What jeans are you wearing with the leopard shirt?
They are a JCrew 90's straight. I linked a almost exact match in the description.
Did I miss the leopard mary Jane's link???
The link has a green pair of velvet Mary Jane's. I think the leopard are sold out. They are from Loft.
Would it work to cuff the jeans to avoid the pooling?
Not on the wide legs. They don't cuff very well.

Flats and wide leg jeans are a big no no for me, I'm 1.63cm or 5'4'' and I look short, I use chunky platforms with everything 😂😂 ❤great video!!
Lol, I'm 5'4" as well!
@YourGuideToStyle 😂😂😂 omg, but why I don't look as tall as you do! What is wrong with my legs!!?? 😛🎀😘
I would not consider cropped wide leg jean at all. It is totally disgusting looking that should not be a style. Personal opinion😂
They are not my favorite but some people do like them.
As a survivor of the 70s I agree.

The high tops look better than the platform sneakers.

I don't think everyone will think so.
