  • Hi guys!
This is my brutally honest, unbiased, non sponsored nastygal try on haul! Was super disappointed since I heard a lot of good things about this brand and I was ready to let my coins go to receive quality pieces. But nah sis this aint it. I don't trust influencer dependent brands anymore sorry not sorry byeeeeeeee.
I returned all the clothes except for one.. payed 20$ for the return shipping and im just madddd. Hopefully I get a refund asap..
I feel so stupid for sending them an Email saying how excited I was to receive the items and asking for a discount code for my followers and I, before even receiving the package. If I knew the quality is this bad I would've saved the email for sure lol.
Please let me know if you also think that these items do not deserve that price tag or if I am over exaggerating.
PS: I didn't order the wrong size. A size smaller would definitely be too tight for me so this wasn't the problem
I won't be online shopping anytime soon for sure.

I’m a model and I can confirm every single brand uses clips during photo shoots. Also when they put the size the model is wearing/her height it’s usually fake measurements. I worked for a clothing company (won’t name it) and in the description it said that I am 177 cm tall while I’m 173 and that I was wearing S while it was absolutely not an S.
Also the products on the photos are usually not the real products but the prototypes
edit: thanks everyone for all the replies!! I thought it was important to point this out as people just think the clothes don’t look flattering on them. It doesn’t look flattering on models either. IT’S NOT YOUR BODY, it’s the clothes
also I am sorry but I’m not trying to get sued so I won’t name the brand haha, most brands do that tho so it doesn’t even matter.

I KNEW IT. Every single model on the prettylittlething, regardless of whether she’s tall, short, thick, skinny, tiny waist, bigger waist etc IS DESCRIBED TO BE A SIZE 8. As if you want anyone to believe that all the girls with all these different body shapes are the same size and it’s an 8. I’m 5’10 and if I were to wear a size 8 (which on the plt website was mentioned to be the size of the model who was in the picture wearing it, who was 5’11 and had a very similar body type to mine), this size would barely go through my head, and if it did, it would fit like a tank top, and not a dress???

You are not over exaggerating. The fabric does look cheap, especially the two satin ones. They look light, thin and if they ever come in contact with any rough surface (concrete, a twine chair, anything) they'll tear, like little tears where the thread pulls and ruins the shiny smooth effect. Satin needs to be heavy, light doesn't fit properly and make you look bloated.

Great but don't forget that although it may not be "made" in China, the material tend to be sourced from China anyway, the fabric, hardware, buttons, zips, rivets, its all just sewn and put together elsewhere outside China. And generally that has to be the case if you want to get anything even mildly affordable. On the very rare occasion it might not be sourced from China but then it tends to be incredibly expensive. I know because I work with this kind of stuff, even so supporting local businesses is always a good thing.

Rafaela Scheiwiller yes there may be brands that consider themselves “ethical” because they have the clothes sewn and made elsewhere outside China, what I’m saying is that normally the material is still sourced from China, especially zips, rivets and hardware. I was responding to OP because they said they don’t want to wear anything made from the blood sweat and tears of some poor Chinese. I say it’s harder than you think to avoid it and I’m well aware because I work in the field. Don’t forget that in OP’s case, thrifted items have an equal chance of having been “made” unethically as new clothes, but yes thrifting is indeed more sustainable than buying new clothes

I know that my opinion's gonna be kind of against everyone else's, so just to clarify- i don't want to be mean in any possible way. With that being said: first of all, trust me girl, those clothes would look better if you steamed them, as to their quality- it def would not change after that but they'd instantly look more presentable in my opinion. Second of all i have no idea what kind of body shape or which size are you rocking, but sometimes clothes just aren't made right for a certain bodies and they won't fit you like a glove (and that's, again, not me being mean, just facts, i've been there too). It also might be the fact that they use a different sizing or something.
The last thing i have to say is that it's pretty normal that these days clothes are designed to fit their targeted shape (for example fashion nova is for girls with curves, and some of us just won't look good in them at all). That's why i think altering your clothes comes in handy A LOT. But i completely understand that you paid a lot of money for them so you expected something a lot better.
Btw the black dress looks stunning on you!

My mother works in the fashion industry and I just wanted to elaborate on what you mentioned about the dress looking different on the model than what you received; the clothes in the photoshoots are actually prototypes.
These prototypes tend to be referred to as samples and only get made in one size; the smallest possible in order to save money on fabric and production cost. In order to save even more money, the brand would hire a model that size to model it in a photoshoot (the effects this has on societal body image and attractiveness is massive, but that's a WHOLE different topic). In the eyes of a business, that is a win-win situation, after all, all they need to produce one sample product and it would cover both the testing stages and the marketing stage of the production; and all they need to do is make some small adjustments so that it fits the model's body type. Some brands use clips, other make actual adjustments to the clothing; but they ALL get adjusted to fit the model the way the piece of clothing is meant to look. Normally, this doesn't cause an issue in higher street brands; as they go through multiple fitting sessions to make sure that the clothing sits as it's meant to be on the body, no matter its shape, paying greater attention in the way measurements change through sizes, resulting to a higher price.
That is NOT the case with this brand. This brand also takes advantage of the ignorance influencers have on the fashion industry; specifically the manufacturing process so that they get them on board to model, and also specifically pick influencers to fit their clothes (the person is adjusted to the clothing, not the other way around). There is a lot of brands who do that to make sure they get minimum expense as well on advertising. Obviously not all fashion businesses operate like this, but that's pretty much the blueprint of mass produced clothing.
In conclusion, most brands advertised by influencers cut massive corners, especially ones that give out their items for free. In aims to cut costs on testing and marketing, they end up fuelling body dysmorphia and end up with a very cheap product. That is normally fine if they're only starting out as it's a common mistake, but if a brand makes no effort to improve on those aspects then it is just not worth investing into. I recommend when shopping through any store, as this doesn't only apply to Instagram ones, to have a look at the materials used as then you'd know what to expect, if it's not stated, don't bother; where the item's been made as different countries have different standards; cheap manufacture can lead to shrinkage in clothing which makes it a size smaller than what it's advertised as; cough-Topshop-cough.
Most importantly don't have high hopes when you shop from stores like these, or just buy the biggest size if you really like something so that you can get it altered easily; alteration and fitting for basic garments like these is actually quite cheap and makes them last longer!
I didn't intend to write this fat essay, but i hope people take the time to read it to have a better understanding of this whole model vs customer product issue~

  • @atinysoftbean1645
    @atinysoftbean1645 5 років тому +52

If shops put clothing on discount, (especially if it's not because most common sizes have sold out and it's not a season change or something), you can always assume that the original price is waaaay overpriced.
Also, the production cost of fast fashion pieces is usually in the low dollar amounts, probably even cents.
And a lot of (especially instagram) fast fashion companies just buy wholesale brandable clothing that fits their image, from some garment factories in Asian countries. And Wish sellers most likely get their stuff from those same sources as well.
The people who sew those clothes get paid next to nothing and the materials cost them next to nothing as well, especially since factories buy them in wholesale bulk.

Well I’ve given up completely not because I have returned EVERY SINGLE thing - they are cut weird, are super cheap material, they almost never fit right.... they ALWAYS have a 50% off sale that only lasts 48 hours or something but then when that’s over it’s 48% off for 48 hours and then after that 40% with free next day delivery etc. I hate it and I have always been so frustrated to see influencers “loving” everything they get sent while I can’t find a single thing to fit me!!

I always used to scrutinize myself when something I had ordered online from websites like these (romwe and shein are 2 other ones that have the same hit-or-miss scheme) because at the time I thought I didn't like the way I looked & compared that to the models' sizes/heights while realistically, it was simply that the actual product was absolute trashhhh! I don't think we realize (ESPECIALLY younger pre-teen/teen girls and boys) just how heavily edited and photoshopped it all is. anyways it's refreshing to see some real, unbiased media. Girl I know what you mean about their clothes. I've bought clothes from them twice. The first time the quality was horrendous but somehow I talked myself into purchasing from them a second time. And guess what?? It was equally disappointing. Nearly $200 each time just to receive clothes that look more like costumes. The clothes just sit in my closet or my dresser lol. And yes, the "lightweight" silkish tops, you will sweat up in them bitches 🤣. They really know how to work the consumers. They slap a big ass sale on everything saying it ends in 16 hours only for the sale to restart again after the time has ran out. People buy things so quickly from them because it's seemingly at a "cheap price" for a "limited time," but what they don't know is that the clothing is even cheaper. And you don't even wanna bother returning the disappointing items because it's just gonna cost you more money that you don't want to spend on the clothes. You probably wouldn't even get a refund if you tried lol. Party City has better quality clothes.

THANK U! This video was sooooo helpful. I was on their website to buy me my birthday dress. And I found my dream satin dress on there. Only for it to be when I was checking out it didn't work. I tried to purchase it like 3 times. And I didn't leave any of the forms unfilled. But when it came to the last step of the checkout the website kicked me out and just said: 404 error. Every time. It was like they tried to charge me tripple times of the price. But luckily I wasn't charged. But I couldn't order from them at all. So instead of their cheap ass fabric I got myself a prettier dress over at ASOS with a more quality fabric. This is why I never trust influencer fashion brands like this one ughhhh!

Sadly, every fashion brand seems to do that thing with the pins :( I have quite a small waist and it‘s really hard to find pants and skirts that fit me around that area, so when I‘m online shopping, the models in the photos usually have a small waist too and everything seems to fit them perfectly, but when I order the items they‘re again wayy too big around the waist even though I order the smallest size. This is so annoying :(

I had a crumby experience with Nastygal too! It honestly probably does fall back on me a little *but* I was in the market for new jeans and they had their 40% off sale so I was like okie let’s do it, HOWEVER, I took my measurements and used their size guides AND used their like size questionnaire thing and they said I’d be size 12 most likely or maybe a 10. I was a little confused as I’m usually a 6-8 but saw the model was wearing a size 10 (she looked smaller than me) so I went with a size 12. When they arrived they were SO big I couldn’t even wear them with a belt, I would’ve needed to take the waist in AT LEAST 4 inches 😒
