You were correct when you said you are not a professional. You should leave the installation videos to the manufacturers. That is NOT how to put ‘j’ channel around a door.

You have to drill the holes yourself

After the j trim around garage door, what did you use to fill in the open space (width) of your 2x4 or 2x6
Mike Mallard I put in 1x6 trim around the opening of the garage door after the fact.
The side j on the door should be mitered and notched I've seen enough 😂
