So the numbnuts who built my detached garage a few years ago used non-vented soffit. We just bought the place in May this year so I'm going around fixing all the bad work they did. I'm getting ready to finish off the inside of the garage, and I need gutters, etc. Do I need to take off the facia to replace the solid vinyl crap with ventilated soffit, or can I just pop it out and pop in new pieces? i definitely had air flow issues in the garage over the summer, and it got really hot in there- so the roof vent was not even getting any air to help flush out the heat. Hoping insulating, and correcting this issue will help with the temperature in there next summer- along with not making my mini-split work so hard to cool the space after I get that installed. What materials were used? Vinyl then a metal trim? Thank you for the video. I was thinking I am going to try installing mine myself and this looks pretty straight forward. I spent the past 2 weeks working inside on a ladder and think I feel comfortable enough to go on a ladder outside now.

For installing the soffit and the Fascia this video is among the best on UA-cam. I also didn't know you have to use F-Channel for installing the soffit. Great Video, Subscribed!!!

How do you remove one panel if you trying to install a camera?

Exactly what I was looking for to make my soffits look uniform! Thanks for walking me through this! The only tricky part I think I'll have is where I have to go high on the ladder! 🙂

What kind of blade do I need to use, I tried to use my chopsaw and it seemed to have a blade with quite a few teeth but it chipped up the ends of the siding and didn’t make a great cut? Any suggestion on blades would be appreciated? Thanks

Thanks. My house had been constructed and they used staples to attach the soffits. Some have pulled loose. Had someone come out and they wanted $750 to fix a few droopy J channels. Your video motivated me to do it myself.

I have been in a discussion about soffit application and you mentioned leaving a little looseness in the flange connection for expansion contraction . This helps me to make my point on why you should not run nails or screws thru the material anywhere other than the slotted holes provided. Although sometimes it becomes necessary to use a trim nail here and there. The discussion is primarily about starting the soffit from top center of a rake and working down in both directions . Bending the top piece in the center and thus going backwards in one direction. I think its wrong for a few reasons.

What about baffles for insulation and screen to keep bugs out?

Why is vinyl fascia sold 8” and not 6” size of fascia board? 🤔

Why screws instead of nails?

Too slow & boring. They claim vinyl siding is least expensive. Not if you hire this guy by the hour. Put up some multi-colored stripes behind him. So you can tell he's actually moving.

What was the reason for cutting so many small soffit pieces?? Why not run the piece in one long piece? Is it because the pieces change in size as you go on? I dont think so? Right?

Thank you. I am 64 disabled and you wouldn't believe the prices I have been given, so I've decided to do things for myself, and so far, I have saved 5k😅

By putting screws in the soffit panels you aren't going to have the expa sion and contraction the panels should have, just like vinyl siding. Nails would be a better option an use the in the nailing flange only.!!!

A little late now, but the reason they put ELONGATED HOLES in vinal siding is because it expands and contracts like crazy . DON'T NAIL IT REAL TIGHT !

Do not use screws in fascia metal. That looks terrible. Trim nails do the job and look much better
