I would just like to echo all of the great comments others have posted on Shannon's videos. They have helped me immensely in making renovations to a Florida mobile home renovation presently underway. This video on how to use J channel around a window was excellent and made my siding job a lot easier.
Shannon, thanks, I watched this again today before installing two more windows in my barn (did the same a year ago). Little different process with the metal siding on an existing pole barn structure, but the J-Channel cuts are the same. I just don't do this often enough to not get a refresher before starting. Project came out perfect, so thank you so much for your instruction, you are awesome, really appreciate you. Even wish I could come work for you, but I'm too old and slow and whatnot; it's just a nice daydream! Keep it up brother!
Thank you great info .I'm doing some siding at my house tomorrow and I was completely clueless on how to do this. I feel much better about it after watching you video.
Very clear instructions. Only thing I’d add is on long vertical runs of J or corner I put a nail in the top of a slot near the top of the piece to keep gravity from causing it to slip down.
Sir, thank you for your kindness for sharing your knowledge with us . With your help , I am renovating an old house for the monastery, almost finished . bow in respect.

Shannon, this was so helpful! I love how you actually show us all the steps rather than just telling. I finally learned how to cut J channels easily with the fold over! I got all the j channeling installed on my house before the snow flew. Thank you for your help!!
How does this prevent water from getting into the crack between wood and j channel, and subsequently into the wall causing damage? It's going to have to be calked.
@@BWoody914 There should be housewrap already on before you install the J channels. That will prevent water from coming in contact with the wood. Shannon has foam insulation for leveling uneven surfaces on top of the housewrap in this video. 😉

“Snug” on the nailing and adjusting the fit will improve results. The J channel tends to move away from the frame with age. Initial “snug” nailing keeps them holding against the frame. Great advice as always. Thank you.
Cynthia Mahlin my vinyl siding makes a lot of noise when it’s windy outside. Is this normal for a newly built home? Or did the builder do a poor install job?
Ayoub Farid Noisy siding would indicate a failure to properly secure the vinyl to the underlying structure. I would have it checked by a qualified person. Also, you can view other videos on this channel for specific information.

There's a better way of doing miters. Instead of cutting your miter from the end of your side pieces, cut them about an inch and a quarter from the end, on the back side, make a line squared to the short end of the miter and make a cut, then cut off the back side completely and also cut the round part of the front side. So what you end up with, is an L-shape rain tab that's about 2 and a quarter inch long that will slide nicely inside the front side of the other J-channel. Once it's nailed in place, your corners will be locked together. I learned this trick here on youtube a few months ago and it works great.
So.glad I found your channel. I am in the process of adding a sun room. Windows were installed and I wasn’t sure how to proceed. This video answered all my questions. Thank you for posting.

There's a better way of doing miters.
