I have viewed many of your vides, particularly your siding, soffit, window demos. However, this one is dead on what I was looking for. I really appreciate the secrets of quality installation you have shared. I’m sure I could hire tons of “professionals” who wouldn’t do the finesse stuff you have shown.

Thank you great info .I'm doing some siding at my house tomorrow and I was completely clueless on how to do this. I feel much better about it after watching you video.
Shannon, thanks, I watched this again today before installing two more windows in my barn (did the same a year ago). Little different process with the metal siding on an existing pole barn structure, but the J-Channel cuts are the same. I just don't do this often enough to not get a refresher before starting. Project came out perfect, so thank you so much for your instruction, you are awesome, really appreciate you. Man the people that put my vinyl siding made so many mistakes. Over lapping the vinyl siding from both directions on the same wall. Putting the nails in too tight causing the vinyl siding to look wavy. Your instructions are so detailed and informative. Thank you so very much!

Shannon, this was so helpful! I love how you actually show us all the steps rather than just telling. I finally learned how to cut J channels easily with the fold over! I got all the j channeling installed on my house before the snow flew. Thank you for your help!!
How does this prevent water from getting into the crack between wood and j channel, and subsequently into the wall causing damage? It's going to have to be calked.
@@BWoody914 There should be housewrap already on before you install the J channels. That will prevent water from coming in contact with the wood. Shannon has foam insulation for leveling uneven surfaces on top of the housewrap in this video. 😉

Great job. As an educator myself, for the past 30 years, you are very through in the details and the demonstration in getting it done right. Thanks for the tips. I am doing my own home now and have never installed J channel. Now I can do so with confidence with your tutoring.
“Snug” on the nailing and adjusting the fit will improve results. The J channel tends to move away from the frame with age. Initial “snug” nailing keeps them holding against the frame. Great advice as always. Thank you.
Cynthia Mahlin my vinyl siding makes a lot of noise when it’s windy outside. Is this normal for a newly built home? Or did the builder do a poor install job?
Ayoub Farid Noisy siding would indicate a failure to properly secure the vinyl to the underlying structure. I would have it checked by a qualified person. Also, you can view other videos on this channel for specific information.

Thank you for a very good video put up J channel on exterior for my door did not know about rain tabs thank you. Now I can cut J channel very well done 👍
There's a better way of doing miters. Instead of cutting your miter from the end of your side pieces, cut them about an inch and a quarter from the end, on the back side, make a line squared to the short end of the miter and make a cut, then cut off the back side completely and also cut the round part of the front side. So what you end up with, is an L-shape rain tab that's about 2 and a quarter inch long that will slide nicely inside the front side of the other J-channel. Once it's nailed in place, your corners will be locked together. I learned this trick here on youtube a few months ago and it works great.
