I have installed siding for years. I installed aluminum siding for 6 years, vinyl was not on the market then. TIP: Leave the level in the truck, measure down from the overhang on each end of the wall and make your marks for the starter strip. @@TheExcellentLaborer My exterior door is presently installed in between brick walls. Any idea how best to trim that out with anything vinyl ( if necessary ) to the existing door brick molding ? There is vinyl siding above the door to the ridge rafter ( approx. 6 feet above the door. )
My house was sided with soffit on the sides that doesn't shingle water like siding does. I have to replace the sheathing with OSB anyway. Soffit and soffit hangers shot as well, saw that when I removed the back garage door and had to completely rebuild the rough opening.
Thanks so much. I wholeheartedly agree with papagiogio85's comments. I had a house with facia and siffit gaps sporadically located around the house. Poor workmanship all around to say the least. Very much appreciate your informational video (and educational for me).
Hello sir, I need to install board and batten siding on my house. I was wondering if you can make a video. I’ve never done any type of siding but tons of handy work. Thank you
Watching this because I started exterior painting a garage/barn. Its overall about 6k sq ft. Hate painting so very much! House has vinyl siding. Much easier to maintain! So here I am thinking vinyl siding for everything??? 😄
I really liked watching your videos very good on detail. I would like to see every step. You were going to nail up that 10 1/4 but didn't show it. I am about to take and install new pieces where the vinyl has cracked an or melted. Great smile, makes the video even more interesting great work
Thanks a lot for this awesome comment! I appreciate it. I try to keep it detailed because people who have not done it before tend to like that. That’s funny you noticed that in the video about the 10 and quarter inch LOL. I hope you stay and watch some more videos!
All of this is making great sense, Im getting ready to install siding on an outbuilding. My question is this, You already knew the roof was a seven twelve pitch to fit the corner at the top, what if you don't know what the roof pitch is????
Hum....new construction is way different than a remodel but good info. We measure down for starter, shoot it with a laser level, only install laminated- insulated siding, insulated corners and hang everything with Truss Screws because it gets windy in Texas and screws give you less chance of blow off. We also brake buddy our fascia and nail it with a X pattern, miter our J channel, use hidden vent soffit and stay 12" away on the under-lap panel while screwing into the closest slot on the overlaps to try and force better seams.
Another option if you have a lot of siding is to flip the blade on your Mitre saw so the teeth run in the opposite direction and it will cut the vinyl perfectly... I've used this when I did my house and the cuts are great..
I wish every contractor was meticulous as you. I had siding put on in mid October and the following summer everything warped and looked terrible. The sub nailed everything too tight and the entire house had to be redone.
Thanks for the compliment. I’d like to do it right the first time so I don’t have to fix it later. So being meticulous pays off. Yes there are definitely bad contractors in the world. Sorry to hear about your experience. Thanks for watching!

I have a Hart battery powered oscillating saw for stuff like that. Cuts faster and smoother than snips.
Great video and info. One thing I thought about was to you could before you start find every stud and Papa line on them and that way as you go up and as you know you can nail into the studs!!
When I set up for a gable is two extension ladders ND ladder jacks with a walk board sitting on the jacks
I’m leaning a lot from this guy
I appreciate the video. I also applaud how professional you we're when that cicada landed on you, 😆
I remember those cicadas were bad that year. Appreciate you watching!
It's just a bug man!
Appreciate the clear explanation and your hard work 🎉❤
Great, informative video! Thanks for the pro tips too! Always wondered why I could see the overlaps so well on some houses.
To get the length of your corner add 3" down from the chalkline if using 2 3/8" or 2 1/2 " starter strip
Really like that style of vinyl siding !
First time home buyer looking into how easy siding may be. You make it sound so easy. Well done on the video
Thank you for posting this video Jeff.
You are welcome!
@@TheExcellentLaborer My exterior door is presently installed in between brick walls. Any idea how best to trim that out with anything vinyl ( if necessary ) to the existing door brick molding ? There is vinyl siding above the door to the ridge rafter ( approx. 6 feet above the door. )
Josh.
I like your creativity is amazing it encourages me to learn contractions in future.
Your videos are excellent and you're teaching is perfect
We have cedar siding with a brick moulding and brick at the base. How would we do the siding? Thank you for a great video!!
Excellent diy video for beginners, thanks Josh!
Thanks Joshua! I tried to keep the video simple for people to understand. Thanks for watching!
This video was very helpful thank you. I like the Amazon store link!

The new Swanson Speed Squares have notches opposite the outside edge for scribing rip lines.
Great video for the uniformed, thanks for posting.
Thanks a lot John!
Beautiful and clean job greetings from México city
Welcome Julio. Thank you!
Good video for beginners and I am sure I learned something new
Glad to hear it!
Excellent job showing the process !
Thank you Scott!
Thank you for the very thorough explanation.
Thanks Tracy!
Knowledge is wealth! And bro! You have got a lot of it! Thanks a lot for sharing it
My house was sided with soffit on the sides that doesn't shingle water like siding does.
Very much appreciate your informational video (and educational for me).
great presentation. Easy to understand. I learnt a lot. Thank you.
Thank you! Glad I can help!
Those little divots above the ruler on your speed square are to put the lead of your pencil in so you can scribe perfect lines. 6:05 28:17
I put a metal cap, a 90 at the bottom over the wrap and capping the wood at the bottom before the starter strip.
Very well explained with details at every step.Thanks.
Thank you for the time stamps. Great video
You’re welcome. Timestamps are definitely useful. Thanks for watching!
Hello sir, I need to install board and batten siding on my house. I was wondering if you can make a video. I’ve never done any type of siding but tons of handy work. Thank you
Here is a video I made on that
ua-cam.com/video/F3zXg9p_A8M/v-deo.html I hope it helps!
@@TheExcellentLaborer thank you!
Put a torpedo level on the fascia plumb it up then put your square up to it. Whatever number the bottom of your soffit is would be the pitch.
Hi, you are a great teacher. I enjoyed the video. I’m a new subscriber.
Thank you so much for subscribing! Cheers!
Excellent vid! Thanks for pointing me to it! Great channel!
Thanks Terry! Stay tune for future videos!
I like making my siding cuts with a battery angle grinder with a metal cutoff wheel makes long cuts easy and slices through trim pieces too
Good tip!
