This guy is a natural Expert. I don’t know if he teaches at the college. He is calm, good voice slow and clear explanation, and starts from the begging for everyone to top for professional people. I enjoy his expert explanation. Thank you sir. GOD BLESS YOU.
I teach on UA-cam . LOL.
@@HouseImprovements you are the best brother thanks for these videos
He's either a natural teacher or, has had good experience teaching others. Starts just at the level of anyone who should attempt to do something like this, sticks to the subject, and shows or tells you just what you need to know. Great job.
+dnsmithnc My only experience teaching is here on youtube with these videos.
+HouseImprovements You rock! thanks for the lesson.
You should cover your js with your window casings.and also you should run your last course then put j upto siding and run soffit its a much cleaner look
Great job explaining!, man, you could teach a group at any technical school with no problem!, congratulations for that ability, a natural gift man, great job!.
@@HouseImprovements Years ago, I wrote instructions for setting up and operating manufacturing equipment. One day, I got the idea to videotape the process and then created a comic book from the video. On some of these videos, I am tempted to make my own comic book so I will have these instructions actually out on my project.
I like this guy, not only does he show you the correct way to do something but he explains certain details that are important. Great video thank you!
***** Yeah my wife and I are general contractors so we do all kinds of things, some of them for the first time. We watched this and his soffit/fascia video and we've found Shannon very informative. Terrific communicator.
Guy seams verry nice .but for the record you never put accsesories on b4 you get your starter line ... What if your lines lower than you put your corners
lol....you wrote SEAMS like a nice guy. I get it.
actually, I wanted top see how he finished off the drip cap and top of the window
I'm assuming he already knew where he was going to put the 'starter strip and worked the vertical trim pieces on from that point and up.
No matter what "tutorials" I watch on UA-cam, I always come back to Shannon. Thanks, bud. You're the real deal.
Thanks Dewayne...why waste time somewhere else? LOL
Me too shannon. Keep it up!
Yes! I put my roof on thanks primarily to Shannon.
I love how this guy explains things, he takes the time to explain every detail, he doesn't use a go pro camera like other guys do, he doesn't do time lapse, I get dizzy watching videos with go pro cameras. Keep doing these videos just like this one, they are very well made and very informative. Great job, I'm learning a lot from your videos, keep up the good work. 👍
What an incredible time we live in! As an older woman who is a full time caregiver to my disabled husband,I am so grateful that you take the time to educate us DIY 'ers! I must do things myself as every penny counts and our old wooden house needs lots of work. Thanks for the great video and teaching, I think I may be able to handle doing this with such great info! Blessings!
Good luck Kimberly
This is simply the very BEST how-to vinyl siding video anywhere. Shannon is personable and calm and really knows the work. Well done!
Used your videos to help my very first siding install, a 12x14 shed. Everything went very well, and all the little tips and tricks played in my head as I needed them, especially the measurements for angled roofing. It was the right information, at the right level, delivered in a manner that really stuck with me. Mucho thanks
This guy is incredible! Explains everything easily and thoroughly. A true craftsman as he has an eye for detail and quality.
I love your repair and installation videos. I’m young and I’m a home owner. You have helped me install and repair stuff around my house! Your videos are always detailed . Keep up the good work.
I don't think I have enough superlatives to describe how good this is as an instructional video. EXCELLENT. Very thorough, and extremely well presented. Thank you! Gives me all I need to tackle a similar job by myself.
I was nervous about trying this myself, but Shannon describes the process in a clear understandable manner. This is one of the best How-to-Do videos on UA-cam. Thanks!
Great video! I did'nt realize the importance for subtracting 1/4 of an inch for expansion. This video gave more of an insight on how to do vinyl siding. Thanks!
Thank you...contractor wanted a $1,000 plus materials to replce siding on back of kitchen wall(10×16).after watching video,i bought materials and tools ($240),and did the job myself. Learned something new and saved my self $900.thank you shannon. I find your videos really enjoyable and educational. U are a true craftsman and attention to detail shows. Greatly appreciated..
Glad you saved some cash by DIYing it yourself
What an excellent video. Lots of valuable tips from his experience; speaks slowly; doesn't repeat things over and over and over. He covers a lot of information, but new facts continue to emerge. Great job! I feel confident to be able to install siding for the first time now! Thanks.
Hey Shannon, just wanted to say THANKS for all your videos! I've literally built a 8 x 8 shed start to finish with your videos. Installed a 4ft wide roll up door, designed a hip roof, installed aluminum soffit and facia, and of course, vinyl siding. All your videos are extremely well documented. Thanks again for providing such great videos!
Crystal clear great instructions - one of the best how-to videos I've seen on youtube. Thank You!
I've watched a bunch of your videos today alone just because of how well you explain things in detail, along with tips. The key for newbie DIYers like me is that we need people like you that don't we know certain things. You start us off from scratch, and I thank you for your that!
We are building a garage and watching Shannon has been very helpful. He not only explains step by step but also gives extra hints along the way.
I built my entire shed from start to finish watching this guys videos. Turned out fantastic. Thanks.
Shannon your a godsend. Thanks to your channel I've save thousands of dollars. You speak simply which exactly what I need. I was born feet first so I'm a little slow. Thanks man!! Keep these videos coming. My wife has a honeydo list as long as my arm.
Siding under my window separated from the house in the heat. Installer didn't use the undersill or shim trick you mentioned here to keep it tight. Now I know how to fix his work. Your vids are just fantastic.
11 years and this video still useful. A big shot out to this great teacher
By far, the BEST how-to video I've ever seen on any topic! No rambling, unnecessary intro or background or self stroking of ego, just clear concise information from the very start. The video answered all of the questions and concerns I had about how to install vinyl siding in the near future on a garage. Thank You! Keep teaching us!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just got done installing soffit, facia and siding on my 1500 sq. ft. house. Thanks to Shannon it came out great. His tips saved the day. My only challenge was trying to find nailing edges sometimes. My garage was at a lower level and this video demonstrated how to handle the different heights. Great video for the semi-handy.
I'm thinking of doing the same. About how long did it take you to do the soffits, fascia, and siding?
best 30 min videos,,, we need more people and videos like this, subscribed 👍
Shannon I watched several of your videos. This one also was Great. You speak slowly and without unnecessary confusing terms. I’m reinstalling my siding from a patio to under a deck and I need to raise up th J channel for drainage off the wall . You did it the same way I had thought it would work the best . I’m a Old DIY Guy . Many thanks
I've done this years ago. But I have a project coming up. Thought I would refresh my self. Got some new ideas. Thank you.
After watching this I'm confident to start applying for siding jobs. Thank you, sir!
Shannon's videos are awesome. I had never installed vinyl siding before, so I looked for information on how to do it. Thanks to Shannon's videos, I have completed my shed siding job and it went like clock work. I highly recommend his videos.
Me either! In 1978 or 1979, my dad and his friend installed the sidings. Still beautiful condition ever since!. My house had real sloppy job on the south side of the house and the garage and I intend to install it the right way. I wish there could be seamless sidings looking perfect from any angles. I bought my house last year.
THANK YOU. I've never done siding before. Simply after watching your videos, my house (albeit slow because it's been hot) is starting to look new. Piece by piece.
I've been doing construction full time for 18 yrs since I graduated when I was a junior. I wish I worked with this guy. I'm a master carpenter and multi skilled tradesman, every video I've seen by Shannon is spot on. You'll learn a lot the right way from this guy, he cuts no corners. Subtract 3/8" in the winter because it'll expand in the heat: subtract 1/4" in the summer because it'll shrink in the winter. 1/4" up and down for clearance is fine all year around, it moves mostly over the length of the piece, less over the height. Keep your nails to the top of the slots, leave your nails a nickel or a dime from the siding for movement, too much and the wind will push the vinyl into the nail and stamp the heads into the piece, visible through the face. Popping tabs up through the face are nicer than silicone if you ever have to pull a piece, also silicone only holds you at the bottom, not at the cut top of the piece at the accessory trim, whether at the sill below a window or the final row at the top, if you want you can also use undersill/accessory trim in the J-channel at the bottom if the bottom cut-off in an elevation difference if the cut-off will make the top row. Every manufacturer is different, some say 3/4" into the stud, some say 1 1/2" nails minimum, so with 1/2" sheathing they go into the stud 1." The. 2" if you're going over existing wood siding, add for thickness of any foam installed additionally over sheathing to length of nail. Also keep your nails up to the top of the slots
Thanks very much my 1st time building a 12x12 shed with vinyl siding watch your videos many times to make sure I got it right. Great videos easy to follow, Cheers!!
Shannon - Thanks for this and all your great DIY videos. You are practical and professional. Now I'm gonna get started siding my house!
Awesome video Shannon!! Thanks for the great explanation. A friend just asked me to help him build a shed and the only part I've never done is the vinyl siding, but now I know how thanks to you.
Cheers
This was a great video. My siding is messed up from the people who installed it, wavy everywhere, parts falling off. Was good to see there are people out there that know what they are doing, just watching this helped me realize where they messed up on my house.
You are a natural at teaching, this is one of the absolute best DIY instructional videos I've seen.
Thanks
Hi, Shannon... thanks for taking the time to make this VERY informative video, you are very informative and knowledgeable.
Thank you for posting this video on putting up vinyl siding. This was the only video I needed to watch and it explained everything I needed. Shannon's comprehensive reviews covered everything, including what size/type of nails to use !!! Thanks Shannon.
really appreciate all the knowledge you put in our hand , sometimes things are easier than people know but knowing it make a big difference, thanks for this video, the best for y’all
This is the best how to video I have watched. You made it real easy to install the siding. Your explanation is thorough and very clear for a rookie like me. Thank you for this bud.
Great information. Clearly explained. But I must say, Shannon, you are an outstanding educator! If you ever want to educate young people in the building trades, you will be epically successful.
These videos are fantastic. Shannon shows all the important steps and doesn't assume that you know anything, so it's very easy to follow step-by-step.
Been doing carpentry and the trades a long time. Master of none. But I do a good job because I care. This guy has all the characteristics most of my bosses along the way lacked. He doesn't assume you know a step or procedure, he shows and explains every step without extraneous words or information. So you can actually watch his 1/2 instruction video and feel CONFIDENT not confused. Also, his demeanor is engaging not necessarily entertaining. I'll watch Red Green for that! So thank you fella. I'm going out today to get started!!
I wish this guy taught other subjects. He is AWESOME. The siding came off my house during high wind and this video has supplied all the knowledge I need to confidently fix it myself.
I can help also on this comment board, this guy taught me back when I was an apprentice with these videos.
I do siding everyday all day.
Very detailed how to, one of the best I have seen - thanks for sharing
This guy is a natural at making videos!!!!! One of the best videos I have ever watched. He is crystal clear, informative, he goes at the perfect pace, he is down to earth and definitely gives you the confidence to tackle this project. Honestly bro THANK YOU!!!! MUCH CONTINUED SUCCESS TO YOU!
This is the 5th or 6th video I've seen Shannon share showing do it yourselfers like me complete the job quickly and efficiently! Thank you Shannon, youve save me multiple times
I'm about to save myself $2,000 and do this shit myself. Thanks for the information.
+06jj28 Just remember that the next time the siding guys give you a $5,000 quote to do your house. I did 3 sides of my house for less than $1,500 last year. I know a man's gotta make a living but $3500 for 2 guys for 2 days is a little much.
+Altair Ibn-La Ahad Yes it is much cheaper to do it yourself if you can, but not all people can or have houses that are easy to do. In hiring any contractor you need to get at least 3 estimates from reliable contractors that have multiple references. It is also important to check on the contractor with your states builders board to see if he is licensed and if he has any claims against him/her.
Altair Ibn-La Ahad there are a lot more expenses to running a legitimate business than a simple wage. payroll taxes, equipment maintenance, licensing fees, WCB, Professional Associations, on going certifications regarding safety etc. Not to mention there can be warranty costs, and no pension/benefits of any kind for the contractor. Also, installing the siding is only half of it at best. proper installation of the envelope (homewrap, dripcaps, and flashing of all types). i have seen so many jobs with improper moisture management issues. there is a huge difference between do it yourself/handyman work and a professional job.
Give me a call when you screw your homes up . Next you guys will start making your own bass boats to fish out of 😁 .
2000 that's all!
You make the best how-to videos, keep it up!
I agree man
Hes.a really good teacher
And has a way with words
I agree this guy is absolutely amazing! I’ve built my siding business off his teachings!
I 1st watched this video several years ago and have since done the vinyl siding on 3 houses, 2 of them my own and one for a friend. excellent video. great skills that have served me well
That is awesome!
Great video, clear detail, encouraging to the first--timer, as well as excellent refresher for someone doing a siding job a few years after the first, and has forgotten a lot of detail--like me! Thanks so much!
WHAT A GREAT TEACHER , SERIOUSLY ...THANK YOU FOR THE TUTORIAL ADVICE. I AM HAVING TO REPLACE THE SIDING AT MY HOME IN THE BOSTON AREA. THIS IS WHAT BRINGS ME TO YOUR VIDEO. AFTER WATCHING A FEW OTHERS BEFORE YOURS IN MY OPINION, YOU ARE BY FAR THE BEST. YOU EXPLAIN IT ALL AND YOU JUST TO ME SEEM LIKE YOU KNOW IT ALL SO, AGAIN THANK YOU AGAIN FOR SHARING YOUR SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE...
ALL THE BEST,
MICHAEL
+Michael Cunha Thanks Michael, we strive to provide the most indepth videos that we can. Did you see our second vinyl siding video? It deals with siding gable ends. ua-cam.com/video/_R2TLGR3usE/v-deo.html If you did not already please click the "subscribe" and "thumbs up" buttons we would love to keep providing you with free helpful DIY project advise.
Great video! Almost makes me feel like I could do this.
Thank YOU for this insightful video. We've just had our house done here in Florida and I see several errors in the installation. I had my own ideas that it wasn't being done properly, now I'm sure it wasn't. It's nice to see a professional at work and be able to see the insights as to a job done properly...Thanks again!
I just wanted to say "Thanks" for your video. I put up vinyl siding on a wall I put up to enclose my patio; the vinyl siding looks great! Your instructions were extremely helpful. Thanks!
Dude, I think you're about the best diy teacher on yt...good job, thanks!
Thanks Mike
I just finished the vinyl on one side of my house and very happy with the results so far and you helped alot!
good work
good work
Thanks for the video your a lifesaver!
glad to help
OMG, This video is so helpful. I am starting a tiny house, my choice of outside covering is vinyl siding for weight and affordability but had no idea how to install it. You are a marvel my friend. I now know I can do this myself.
I love his attention to detail. Also the fact that he gives you examples of other ways to doing it.
I liked your video I didn’t see how you waterproofed the TYPAR vapor barrier/house-wrap to the weather-strip you sealed under the window? On the west coast if we don’t tape the house wrap to; the weather-strip that’s sealed under the window or to the window itself, the installation WILL LEAK. I like to install a plywood blade and my saw backwards which gives me a smooth cut and eliminates possible chipping
Actually I guess I missed mentioning that, you would add a J channel sitting on top of the drip cap.
Thanks I was trying to place where you put the j channel with the drip cap. Joe
Honestly, this is immensely informative. I'm going back to school for 2nd year carpentry soon and these videos are so many steps above what I learn on the job. Thank Shannon.
School can be overrated sometimes you just got to get your hands dirty. Its good to have basic common sense and fine measuring skills though.
Thanks for explaining the how and why for everything there is with Vinyl Siding. It's easy to skip steps when you've done it a million times. I appreciate the video, great job.
just realized how crappie of a job the guy did that installed my siding... thanks for the Video!
Same here.
most siding installers are terrible...

"Hi, I'm Dave Turin from Gold Rush, today we're going to learn how to install vinyl siding."
+Charles Jones There is a resemblance , I must admit.
He's the better twin brother of Dave. Gold Rush dave is a D**k.
I'm a brick mason by trade , and trying to get my place fixed up to be more easily maintained as I age. I have a simple 16' x 16' storage shed I am putting vinyl siding on and in my area, you can't hire the work out. For that reason, I really appreciate the how to videos on vinyl. You make it very easy and clear what and what not to do....Thanks!
Excellent ideas for someone who does not know what they're doing I myself have been doing this for years 48
And I can still learn something new everyday thanks for sharing
170 people cant follow directions nice vid though thanks
I do various forms of home improvements myself and from what I see hes good, however,he should explainthay when using a saw that i turn the blade around,or it will chip the panel your cutting u can also cut metal that way.he also hasn't shown how to do soffit. I know how but he should show that...not good..c mon dude.
He has a video on soffit and fascia as well. It's about 14 minutes long and very informative.
He did a GREAT job of showing and explaining how to do each area, as well as explaining why. I'm ready to tackle my siding. Thank you!
very good teacher , and he takes the time to help people understand , thank you so much God Bless you
Great video! Really nice description of everything. I'm so glad you didn't just say what some of the tricks of doing this job are but actually demonstrated how to apply the trick/technique. This video actually makes me think I can do this. Thanks!
Fantastic video... Thank you for walking through & detailing each step, followed up by an example of how it's done! I feel confident in being able to tackle siding on my house now. I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos!
Nice direct style with enough critical detail to help someone with no experience. Thanks, Tom
This is the first video I've ever commented on and I've been watching for years! Great job man, you are a good teacher and it's apparent that you are a professional that takes pride in your work. God Bless.
One of the best how to videos I've seen. Very detailed and extremely patient while discussing the process. Awesome job!
Hi. I'm back to listen to more of your exceptional teaching. I'm watching you from southern California.
Great video as well as the others you've posted. Explains everything so you understand an shows everything and teaches you little tricks of the trade. This guy is great 👍👍
Thanks Shannon again. Love the little details and the easy way you make all projects doable. I am doing a room addition and at every next step I find your videos helpful. Your my go to guy.
By far one of the most informative videos I've watched on any project I needed info on. The video quality is great and you gave great instructions. This is a great help to me. Thank you!
A real guy with true talent in his way of teaching. I will save this video for my future project. Thanks and God bless you.
I followed all 5 videos, with your tricks and my experience and vision I’m changing trades now, thank you.
Wow! I just watched this as most people on here want to attempt to do this on my own due to financial reasons. Great video and super easy to follow. Thank you good sir!
I completely agree with all other viewers comments. Being a BMW tech for 30+ years, I have a greater understanding and appreciation for "craftsman" work style, and just "throw up cheap untrained hacks"
You may not realize it Shannon, as a lot of great tradesmen don;t, but your small attention to details speaks volumes as to their pride in your work. I wasn't able to fully grasp that concept until the last 5 years. Somewhere along the route, you become recognized and respected as that type of detailed, awesome results, and oddly enough, people start coming to you for help, questions. That aspect really sneaks up on you, until someone finally will comment on just how good your workmanship is. Basically, to summarize, you are among'st a very, very tiny % of the true craftsman. I live by the rule of no one ever being able to make any negative comment on my repairs,Thanks for the videos, all of them.
Maybe I can return a favor 2 with advise you any car repairs you may have to get done
Thanks Yuley1, I try to do the best job I can every time and on these videos but it seems there is always someone who has a complaint about what or how we have shown something on a video. I have learned to let that go, everyone has thier ways and in most cases there is more than one way to do every job. I do appreciate your positive comments though, thanks. My business partner has some auto websites and OBD code sites that could maybe use your expertise if you are interested. You can contact him if you like. www.house-improvements.com/forums/memberlist.php?mode=contactadmin
I just wanted to give you a big thank you for making and sharing this video. You did a wonderful job explaining how to install vinyl siding. After watching this video, I am confident that I can install the Vinyl Siding on my shed.
Thank you ,excellent video I haven't done any vinyl siding installation in about 12 years. A little rusty to say the least, but with your very informative video, you brought it back to my memory,, no problem, again thanks a lot. Luigi.
one of the best channel on UA-cam for homeowners who do home projects and are looking for solutions.. many thanks!!
Simple straight forward instructions, no hassle. Just great. Thanks !
Excellent teaching for me. I had asked a couple of siding companies for estimates on a small project at my house (adding siding onto a porch converted to a bathroom) and they said the job was too small for them to tackle. So, with no other options, I'm doing it myself and this video gives me great advice and instruction on how to do it. Thank you, man!
Here is my entire vinyl siding playlist. Lots of good stuff in here:ua-cam.com/play/PLh0KqGKtX4oUz8fyeFsZYo6Np41NoreOQ.html
Excellent demonstration. Any questions that came into my mind got answered almost as quickly as I thought of them.
Thank you for explaining this! I'm helping my father work on his house and don't have much prior knowledge in this area, so your videos are extremely helpful :)
I like this guy, not only does he show you the correct way to do something but he explains certain details that are important. Great video thank you! I'll repeat Travis's comment and add thank you for your excellent instruction. Dave in Canada.
The “overlapping joint tip” was well worth watching the entire video! Makes it look like a pro job for sure. Great video.
I've learned over the years. Any home improvement project... Go straight to Shannon! You'll save yourself
Countless hours of surfing "how to's", and a ton of money! Thanks Shannon you're the best!
Thanks Sandra!
I have to say thank you I never sent a comment before your patient with your explanations which make it better understand, also you do the right way not the easy way out. Thank you brother!
Great video! I'm older, but since the materials are not heavy, I can tackle this job. At my rental property, the vinyl siding on entire west side of the house warped and buckled. I don't think it was from poor installation, but rather from a particular summer afternoon when the sun simply radiated too much heat on the west side of the house. Thank you for the great video.
Another great video. Thank you for all your tips and insight. Your videos helped me build my deck with confidence. I shall tackle siding the same way. I really appreciate the time you take to go over as many details as possible.
You cover wide range of home repairing tips ! I enjoy them all very much!
Shannon thanks so much for your video's I have just bought a 60 year old house that needs some TLC, and I am learning so much. I will post a small video when I am done with the siding, and walls built.
