    Designed by Roy at Christ centered ironworks. If you would like the plans he sells them for a very good price at this link

    Honestly, that is all the hammer that the majority of enthusiasts would need. I am really impressed with how well it moves the metal. It looks like it needs anchored and reinforced, but wow. I would like to make it out of oak or hickory beams perhaps larger in dimension. I keep thinking about those giant helve hammers in England.

    That is simple elegance.. and appears to work very well.. a buddy sent the FB post and I'm glad he did.. this is certainly one I can actually put on my short list to fabricate.. whereas others are long range plans do to time and complexity.. but this is so elegantly simple it is far more do able.. thanks for sharing.

    Great design, really well controlled in such a simple manner. Would be nice to get some more close ups of the entire rig for copying or perhaps you can post or link some plans.

    Finally a real test!! So many people say " Testing homemade power hammer" and the hammer 1/4 round.. or its even cold stock.. you showed a lot of different steel sizes! How much money do you have into this so far?
    Great work!

    • @JustinTopp
      @JustinTopp  3 роки тому +2

      That bugs me too haha. I wanted to show the hammers true capabilities by using a wide range of stock sizes. I think the 1.625” diameter 4140 was the most impressive. A lot of homemade hammers probably couldn’t do that.
      I believe I have spent about 600-800$ on this hammer. Seems like a lot but a tire hammer would have cost about 2600$-3000$. And almost any other homemade power hammer is useless it seems like. So I’m happy. It will pay for itself quickly.

    That's really impressive! I'm surprised at how quiet it is. I had a question on your cam, I see yours is different than that giant fabricated roller bearing, how does that center section of yours rotate to push the leaf spring linkage? Is it a piece of rod inside a pipe?

    • @JustinTopp
      @JustinTopp  3 роки тому

      I switched to the Roller bearing since this video but it looks basically like a crankshaft for a engine. It’s a rod with an off set in the center. There is a pipe around the round part of the offset. The pipe is connected to the top link that is connected to the spring

    @johanroraback9823 2 роки тому

    So, now that you are using the cam, how do you like it compared to the crankshaft style you used in this video? Any pros cons etc? The crank looks like it would be easier and cheaper to fabricate.

    • @JustinTopp
      @JustinTopp  2 роки тому

      The motor pretty much kicked the bucket after about a week because it was old and junk. so I haven’t used it other than a few times after this video with the proper cam on. But some pros are it’s smoother running and has a bit finer control. But it’s a lot harder and more expensive to make. The crank honestly works fine and I would just build a better version of it if I were to do this again.

    Wondering if this hammer needs to be anchored to the floor or could it be used on a large timber base?

    • @JustinTopp
      @JustinTopp  2 роки тому

      It’s on a large timber base set into the dirt in this video

    • @leegates3072

      So do you think it would work on a concrete garage floor with maybe a thick rubber mat underneath? Reason I ask is winter is real cold here!

    Why? Because I'm jealous and I want one..... NOW!!

    • @JustinTopp
      @JustinTopp  3 роки тому

      @@JustinTopp Thanks Justin. I'm asking because (all joking aside) I think I'm going to need one. I'm very slowly recovering from Blacksmith's/Tennis elbow. Not lifted a hammer since 18th Dec and will probably be quite a few more weeks yet. So bloody painful.
