I don't know how anyone can stand FInal Cut Pro or Resolve. Resolve is a nightmare. I use a Sony Vegas subset called Magix Movie Studio. It's basically Vegas minus the high end features you have no idea how to use, at a fraction of the price.
I really like how you 'dial-in' in specifics... I use DaVinCi for my editing and video creation.... so this is important to me. But I also use CPU (almost) entirely for my initial 3D processing which might be 5 to 10 minutes per frame running 24/7 on two 5950x machines. And yes, I thought of Threadripper and would so love to have one! But my 32 cores cost less than a Threadripper system. But I wonder if the Intel would do my 3D processing faster? Still..... with 5950x I suppose it'll be a couple years before I am serious about upgrading again. Thanks for your dedication to creators!
@@theTechNotice yes... the 5950x is so amazingly fast! So strong! YOU are one of the people that convinced me to get 3900x two years ago, and the 5950x which you recommended was a good idea also. And yeah.... any upgrade now will be small and VERY expensive with new MoBo. I think I can wait-it-out for a couple of years and then upgrade to the new generation once it's all rolled out, reviews made by you and a few others..... Honestly though, the amount of good you and others do to help us winnow down our choices to what is the best 'bang for buck' is seriously awesome. Both my systems work so well and are so well-matched (except for the one old GPU I have to make-do with in one machine, LOL). That might be solved later this year. One GPU is all I need to use DaVinCi.
helpful video. i wish i had known this when i was building my 5900x system with rtx 3090. it was initially built for gaming as my macbook pro was my primary photo/video station, but as it's gotten older, i've swiched to using Davinci Resolve Studio on my PC. It plays back h.265 4.2.2 F-LOG2 fine without missing a frame, but it's VERY choppy when scrubbing.
Where does the MacBook/ Mac mini with M2 Pro with 16gb RAM slots in to this AMD/Intel comparison? Would I get similar, better or worse timeline viewing? Dehancer is really killing preview FPS. I don't care as much about export times.
Whenever I turn on Quicksync, Davinci does improve the playback of h265 422 10bit, however I also find my davinci resolve to becoming more unstable and prone to crashing. Everything up to date, clean install of windows, Davinci Resolve 18.0.4. This is with Intel i5 12600, nvidia 1060 gtx 6gb, 24gb ddr4. Im hoping its the the dGPU that cant keep up with caching the frames or whatever, causing the issues and not some other configuration, since when i disable quicksync, davinci doesnt crash anymore, but playback is unbearable.

I also admit that this is a Davinci Problem. I've used a few years ago Power Director. This program made automatically proxy media at about 540p at 10 Mbit/s in H264 wich almost all GPUs can decode very fast. Davinci can this too but its a little bit more complicted. If you install Davinci there is an expra program called Blackmagic Proxy Generator lite. This program exactly does it after making the proxies you can load the video files into your project. After that you can cut videos even on a low end system.

One thing you had missed here is that the iGPU uses 4 x PCIe lanes, which with Intel processors means if you have an NVMe drive in the system it will have to share the bandwidth of the 4 x PCIe lanes of the chipset.
When people ask me if they should go AMD or Intel at the moment I always say AMD not because I prefer it. I want the best product at the right price. But because the LGA 1700 socket is flawed. The mounting system bends the CPU and PCB. I am not buying a new motherboard and CPU just to also fix it even though the washer mod is great but the backplate is too soft for this sockeet. So id say skip this release and wait for Raptor Lake and see if they fix the mounting system.

Homeboy, honestly, i really do like this channel, i subbed to TN before GN, JTC, Linus, or anyone else...BUT this shit's getting old really fast. Can we be more creative than to produce the same boring advertisements for a cpu we all know will pale compared to the upcoming Ryzen? ...or maybe it doesn't; but how about actually making NEW videos, nobody needs weekly reminders that the 12900k is better than a kick n the teeth and will do "good enough" if u dont have any damned $. Hell, i've actually been editing n Resolve 17 on an old laptop with an i7-5500U & 6gb ram. Resolve opens to a window telling me to upgrade my graphics driver. I've rendered a few, it technically can produce something. If it weren't integrated, i could at least upgrade it. I dont mean to insinuate that would make this 8yr old laptop fly to mars, i just mean upgradability is important and it's never possible with IGPU. Ur pushin these things like an igpu is actually advisable; when, in fact, anybody who knows computers and needs performance is smh everytime u do this. I get that it's an alternative to spending for a gpu; but so is waiting for gpu prices to come down. This is all advertising, ANY latest new CPU should do well, but that doesnt mean it'sgonna be good n 2mo when the competition smokes it, lol...and with igpu, u dont just upgrade without replacing for big $. theres no such thing as a "budget" creators pc, there isn't even supposed to be, even communists know better, lol- its like buying a $30k Benz, u pay $30k for the symbol, a real Benz is f'n expensive, even under egalitarian rule! Video editing is among the most intensive processing most ppl will do, ur not supposed to get that for "budget" prices. Can we go back to some new content? I have a fractal torrent on my table rn because of ur black ProArt build; except i went white because i like the AERO G board, Gigabyte fanboy...i wish like Hades those videos had swapped configs, lol. Anyway, yea, i like the channel, i like the homie, i want u to keep on with it; but 8 videos simpin for the new Intel cpu, after Intel has been holding up the rear on performance ratings for a cpl few years now? No, nobody wants to just only be sold things; we get it, they paid u to like the 12900K. How about some cooler testing videos? Better yet, why not do a deep dive on the specific components our fave manufacturers use to produce motherboards? Idk, gotta do somethin, this is getting old fast, there's no reason to run the fans away when u need them most.
Thanks for your comment mate! Some things to clarify here. Nobody is paying be a single dollar to like a certain brand/component, that YT channel would sink real fast. Not sure if you know how all this UA-cam business works, but the manufacturer(s) ask if you wanna review x product and then you have a choice whether to accept the product and make videos about it. Not sure if you were around last year, but I kept recommending AMD like crazy coz it was the best. This year-tables have turned. Secondly, you seem like an educated guy, but if you'd be reading the comments of all the videos know the channel you can see that there are a lot of people who don't know this and are wondering which should they go for. My goal with this channel is to educate Creators and help them choose the best tool for their workflow & budget. And I feel really passionate about that since I have seen a lot of bad advice given out there by other people, which just makes me sad to think that 'dang' all those people could've got so much more performance for their money if they'd only known (x) this. Thanks for sticking around with this channel. Just a suggestion why not help out on the comments and reply to those people who are asking exactly those questions mentioned in this video? 😉😇

You might just get by. You need a GPU with 8+GB VRAM and at least 16GB RAM (better 32GB though).
Beware - I ordered the ARCTIC Freezer 34 eSports DUO - CPU Cooler for Intel socket, "LGA1700 compatible" from Amazon for the Asus B660 ProArt motherboard. The "underside" mounting plate doesn't fit the CPU. On the Amazon product page, it says "see note below" and at the very bottom, it says that it may not fit. It says that an upgrade kit will be sent for free but there are no instructions on how to order the free kit. I've got a message into Artic right now but haven't heard back. product designation "ARCTIC Intel LGA1700 Upgrade Kit - for Freezer 34 Series - Black".
Thanks.
And for premiere, after effects, adobe softwares? Intel or AMD?
I don't know how anyone can stand FInal Cut Pro or Resolve. Resolve is a nightmare. I use a Sony Vegas subset called Magix Movie Studio. It's basically Vegas minus the high end features you have no idea how to use, at a fraction of the price.
This is a good presentation...simple to the point...no over do drama ! Loved it man ! Keep up
I really like how you 'dial-in' in specifics...
Even if the 12900k is faster for your 3d, I don't think it's worth the upgrade since you're running a very high end system.
@@theTechNotice yes... the 5950x is so amazingly fast! So strong! I can edit or render with DaVinCi while I have two processes of my 3D art processing AND have a few windows of browser that stays open so I can take a break and watch videos or news.... and when I restart every week or so the RGB doesn't even flash! The fans don't stop! The only indication it's restarting is the POST screen!
And yes..
What about the 5700g? I can't find any info on decoding in Davinci Resolve
Hi. This igpu would help in all kinds of video editing (I mean video recorded by all kinds of cameras including phone camera) or just some select cameras?
Hey Bro, and how about Intel vs M1/M2 Pro or Max chips? How will they compare with decoders and stuff?
@TechNotice can you update this same video comparing Ryzen 7000 vs Intel 13K on Davinci Resolve?
I'd say the conclusion is the same :)
@@theTechNotice just saw your last video. For DaVinci there was not much difference between 7950X and the 13K, aside the other programs and 3D animation upper hand. AV1 and H.265 decode/encode was a needed addition to the Ryzen.
Is my 9900k CPU encoding well enough vs an 11th or 12th gen? Is it worth upgrading as it is paired with a 2080ti?
I need something to replace my Dell T3610 Workstation that'll run DaVinci Resolve no problems. I was thinking about upgrading to a 5820,5860,or 7820 while I was at it since it's got all USB-3 or better ports and USB-C for all of my USB-3 external HDD's to plug into.
What about 11700f vs 11700k. I only work with ProRes and need noise reduction.
Thanks for the info. What about the AMD R7 5700G integrated graphic? Is it not the same?
Not really the amd APUs aren't as good as Intel iGPUs.
@@theTechNotice Alright, guess I’m on intel wagon now. Thanks man!
Any info on which is better for pro res 444 or 422 (4k) editing in davinci ?
Hey Lauri fews days back in livestream you showed us the RTX 3050 so any video coming up on that????
Yes, coming coming beginning of March. My videos are scheduled about 2 weeks in advance :)
@@theTechNotice Dayummm 🙌
Consistency 💯
do both GPU and iGPU work in resolve free? what is the performance difference between the 2?
(back few years free resolve didn’t even have GPU decoding)
That is my question too!!! I make simple video edits with my drone, nothing professional.
I think Free version uses igpu
Do the iGPU matter when I use premier pro?
YES!
@@theTechNotice Thank you. It seems like you are the only one with this message online. You mentioned that all 12th gen igpu has the 265 codec support. If I only export in 264 does it make it go faster? Is the export speed faster with the igpu or the normal editing assembly faster? I have a 4060ti, thank you!
Great video as always. Wish I discovered your channel in January or before. I built back then a new PC with 12700KF, 32GB for DaVinci and gaming.
Keep up the good work.
how imporant is single core vs multicore in davinci resolve? Im deciding between an old 18 core xeon and an i5 12400.
What about adobe premiere pro???
I guess I'll have to make that video. 🤔😉
@@theTechNotice looking forward!
@@theTechNotice could you please cover both Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects on one video? I would be super interested in your thoughts on AE performance on both CPU!
I'm so stuck in deciding whether to wait for Raptor Lake later this year or build one in a month when 12900KS is released? Would the KS variant have Inter Quick Sync as well?
My workload is mainly Unity/Unreal and Adobe Premiere and After Effects.
It would be so awesome to see a video on what your recommendations is for Games Dev build!
Your content is awesome! Keep it up!
Is this still accurate after the 7950X?
Hello, great video, currently there is a very good offer in my country and that I want to take advantage of is the AMD ryzen 3 5300u 12 gigs of ram or the i3 11th gen 8 gigs of ram, I want to edit video in premiere or davinci and colorize basics videos for youtube no more than 10 minutes long, are they worth it?
I also admit that this is a Davinci Problem. I've used a few years ago Power Director. This program made automatically proxy media at about 540p at 10 Mbit/s in H264 wich almost all GPUs can decode very fast. Davinci can this too but its a little bit more complicted. If you install Davinci there is an expra program called Blackmagic Proxy Generator lite. This program exactly does it after making the proxies you can load the video files into your project. After that you can cut videos even on a low end system.
Nice vid :)
What GPU is better to paired w Intel i5 12600k RTX 3060 Ti or RAdeon RX 6700XT?
Depends what you do ...
@@theTechNotice Streaming, video editing, graphics design.
@@oxzhy3341 Nvidia has much better encoders for streaming and editing tasks. AMD GPUs are comparable to Nvidia in gaming. Although, any other task besides gaming favor Nvidia due to their superior encoders and HW accelerators or possibley studio drivers.
can you make a video on Vegas pro best cpu and gpu for performance.. especially for h264 h265 IPB
Amazing video as always. Is it worthy to pay some extra $ for 12600K compared to 12600 (working in DaVinci Resolve)? Do you think is there noticable difference thanks to 4 cores more? I don't plan to OC.
Yes, I'd say worth it!
@@theTechNotice Thanks for your opinion, appreciate it! 💯
What about 12700 vs 12700 K? is it worth the K?
@@nightmisterio yes
I am about to buy a laptop for Davinci resolve. Here are the specs I am going for:
I5 12th gen
Rtx 3050 4 gb
32 gb ram
512 ssd
Will this be enough for color grading in Da vinci?
No the rtx 3050 is useless 4gb ram won’t be efficient in 3 years also ryzen rx 6700 xt has 12 gb ram you would be better off with that
BIG THANK FOR THE JOB. Absolutly stunning review for professionals. Single one on youtube
wow thanks for clarification.. i love it
So i have no experience building pcs.
I was thinking to get this:
Intel Core i9-12900K
-Asus Geforce RatX 3080 ROG STRIX GAMING OC LHR
-Corsair DIMM 128GB DDR4-3200 Quad-kit
-MSI MPG Z690 EDGE WIFI DDR4 Mainboard
-Samsung 870 QVO 8TB SSD
-Gigabyte Aorus waterforce 360
-Corsair iCUE 700D Airflow TG Big Tower
-Corsair HX1200 Powerdelivery
I have no idea what i‘m doing and was wondering if there are any glaring short comings here or bottlenecks?
Is ddr5 better here?or even possible?:)
It’s gonna be used as a Editing PC with a little gaming.
This Video was really informative buddy
I bought 10th gen i7 f version 🤦🏾♂️ any hope Nvidia can improve via software updates ?
Nope, it's the hardware.
@@theTechNotice ah I have to upgrade 🤦🏾♂️
Just got the I7 12700 non K chip and i love the low power usage. Under full load it stays in the 60's with a 240mm AIO and only uses 125W.
7:00 yes please make a video on it 🙌
I do edit video from Canon. AMD dont decode 10bit 4:2:2 from Canon, the only 10bit it doing. And dont encode 10bit HDR back to youtube. Got newest lenovo Z16 680M+RX6500M. None works, unless you work on 8bit FHD for IG.
Why do you compare Intel WITH integrated graphics against AMD WITHOUT integrated graphics? Doesn't seem Fair imo
Kind of funny that many review negate the existing iGPU encoder and decoder, these art part of the sillicon that suppose to be part of the equation making purchase desicion.
Many review focus solely for CPU performance, even on video editing benchmark
Exactly!
Intel Quicksync is a very powerful reason to use their CPU's. Built in encoding and decoding hardware on chip is very fast. Perhaps 20 PCIe lanes on low end chips should be avoided.
Okay, but what about premier pro users 🤔
I guess 'to be continued...'
Thank you for the great comparison, however currently Nvidia GPU is way over priced, and wonder if pair with AMD RX 6700 XT, will the Intel encoder handling all encode/decode ?
What about the amd ryzen 5700g? The iGPU is better than the Intel chip.
Do a ryzen g one too
B660 or B670 Motherboard
Core i5-1 2400
Corsair Vengeance LPX 8x2 16gb 3200Mhz Ram
124001GPU
New Intel Stock Cooler
ASUS Prime H610 Motherboard
Team MP33 128GB SSD
Please comment on this budget build.
Nono, the h610 can't even run XMP so your ram will be around 2133Mhz or 2667MHz. Definitely not h610 mobo.
I’m running a. Threadripper Pro 16 core, with the ASUS Sage WRX80 and 256RAM, and 3090 graphics. Crushing DaVinci like a grape.
Sounds awesome, yet any Intel 12th gen K chip would out perform it in h.265 playback.
I guess not worth switching but for people getting a new system, it could be a deal breaker.
@@theTechNotice And the M1 Mac mini would still outperform the toasty Intel K chip. It doesn't mean a thing.
Or you could just generate proxy media and not worry about it.
not a professional...or anything super...laughs but when i switched to a Ryzen 2600 to 11400...I noticed a significant bump in render and smoother playback....i realized the reason in this vid thanks :D
im Intel user but i have to say AMD is a beast company. they just have 25000 employes and fight against Intel + Nvidia successfully, its a shame for the other two comapnies.
7:00 please do make a video about it!
Is it still true🥹🥺sir🧏🏾♂️?
Yeah, but what about 4th generation 4790K processors?
I'm not sure hokey Magix Movie Studio 16 would use both the GPU and CPU GPU... I've never heard any mention of it ever. Can't stand Davinchi Resolve. I use 1080p h.264 not h.265 or 2.7k or 4.k. 1080p is overkill even for mobile phones.
I think it's funny these guys think UA-cam Content Creators are using the latest and greatest hardware. In 13 years and 500 videos later, I ahve yet to make one cent on this platform... so yeah... the upgrade I'm looking at is from an FX-8350 to a 4790K system I just bought. Should I move all my work over, or not. :-/ The CPU is only 33% faster itself.
One thing you had missed here is that the iGPU uses 4 x PCIe lanes, which with Intel processors means if you have an NVMe drive in the system it will have to share the bandwidth of the 4 x PCIe lanes of the chipset.
Not true!
It can play 12bit 422
When people ask me if they should go AMD or Intel at the moment I always say AMD not because I prefer it. I want the best product at the right price. But because the LGA 1700 socket is flawed. The mounting system bends the CPU and PCB. I am not buying a new motherboard and CPU just to also fix it even though the washer mod is great but the backplate is too soft for this sockeet. So id say skip this release and wait for Raptor Lake and see if they fix the mounting system.
So basically I just spent $1500 on this 3090 FE for no reason. Guess my ryzen 5950x is useless
All I am doing is video/photo editing
And music production (making beats and recording vocals)
I would like to hear what your thoughts are I am still within my 14 days to return my 5950x and get the 12900k I am also using a z63 280mm aio from Nzxt
Ps: thinking about doing some blender work.
It depends on what file formats you are editing. If they are supported on 3000 series GPUs, you are in good shape!
@@stevetech1949 h.264 and h.265 from my a7iv, what would you do?

H265 - 8bit 4:2:0 and 10bit 4:2:0.
Your Sony is capable to film that. I have Sony a7SIII and I love compressed H265 codec. 10bit is great for color grading, just don't use 4:2:2 and your footage will be watchable even on other weaker machines
excellent
If one already has a Ryzen 9 chip, the upgrade is pointless and expensive.
Yes, indeed. This is geared more towards people upgrading from ryzen 3000 and below of from Intel 11th gen and below.
The endless story AMD vs Intel. Today the Intell is the best, tomorrow the AMD will, then again and again. Anyway the best machine for DaVinchi is out of my budget 😆
This is a good example of how not to compare the performance of an iGPU and the performance of a CPU in video transcoding. Misinforming title once more.
I can't wait to see the new xeons. Not that I'd ever be able to afford one lol
i am too
Indeed you are!
welp, time to throw away my pc
what a dumb review. So intel is only faster when you want to encode h265 264. how about professonal raws like SONY RED BLACKMAGIC ARRI? they are not even comparable to AMD. the difference is about %20, and usually the professionals using davinci not the youtubers. thank you very much
Homeboy, honestly, i really do like this channel, i subbed to TN before GN, JTC, Linus, or anyone else...BUT this shit's getting old really fast.
I'm not trying to be a dick, I really like this channel.
