Same here, also working with 3D and rendering. Got the 13900K, but while I do game a lot, that was by no means my reason for getting it (as a 13600K would be plenty powerful for that). My 3D program of choice is exclusively cpu-based render so the massive core count and threads of the 13900K basically makes it a budget version of a last gen threadripper-spec cpu for non-enterprise use. @@setha7398 Really, dude? We all have AMD to thank for having such high core cpus these days. If it were up to Intel, we'd all still be on 4 core chips and getting little 5% performance upgrades every year. Yeah, Intel 13th is top of the mountain at the moment because it's the newest, which is what happens during every new launch. And in 6 months, AMD will release 7000 series 3D chips and be on top. Then 6 months later, it'll swing back to Intel.
That said, after seeing AM4, I don't know how anyone could like Intel these days. AMD owners have been able to upgrade to every new chip, while Intel requires a board upgrade every new chip. Maybe, if you're lucky, you get one cpu upgrade out of Intel. And this is coming from a former Intel user. I always loved them, but last year, I went AMD and never looked back. The high entry cost sucks at the moment, but with the recent price cuts and the fact that AM5 will probably be supported for the next 4-5 years makes AMD a no-brainer in the long run. Not to mention, AMD actually tries to innovate and upgrade their technology. Intel just pumps more watts into their chips and adds wimpy e-cores to try and keep their core counts high. And what are we on now for Intel, 10++++++ nm? Pathetic.

It's especially problematic that, even though we're at PCIE 5.0 support, realistically most expansion cards, GPU's, really anything you'd use won't be able to take advantage of the extra bandwidth because they're still at 3.0 or 4.0. With less lanes available (Using 1x lane per device now, probably), it's possible you could expect a noticeable performance decrease, especially with large amounts of IO.

Intel is getting really interesting in terms of mixed workloads, considering I have an A770, it might be worth it to get an Intel CPU in the future for encoding. This video is a bad joke, full of ignorant arrogance, the 5500 is awesome value for money, you are completely right, the 10100f is very crappy compared to it and you need an intel mainboard, which is expensive and you can not do overlcoking or things like that. Also the 4500(now 72 Euros at Mindfactory) is one of the best value for money CPUs. Both the 4500 and even more the 5500 are very energy efficient(he did not include them in the lists, bad almost al kind of crappy inefficient CPUs and ba value ones. Also you get a very valueable game bundle with it(Uncharted Legacy of Thiefs Collection) an the B450 or even cheaper older motherboards are not expensive at all. Also what was missing that the Ryzen 5 5600 for 119 Euros(special offer a few days ago) with free shipping, game bundle, box cooler is awesome money and even enough for a 3080+ or 6900+. Even for a normal price of about 135 to 140 Euros it´s very good value. It´s cheaper than a 12100f when you add up the costs of the motherboards and very cheap DDR4 is enough. The budget Ryzen 5s are not to beat in value for money. I have a undervolded and slightly underclocked 4500 and it´s awesome, energy efficient and fast enough for my 6600xt(I can even play Forza Horizon without any noticable FPS drop in 4k, when I switch off 9 od the 12 threads. It needs about 10 W on every no matter how many core I use in gaming. In 4k it´s easily fast enough for my 3080 in extreme-maxed out settings, I can also switch off 9 cores. I switched of the 9 cores off only to test it how far I can go, usually I play with 12 threads or I switch of every other thread and play with 6(for abit better performance, like SMT off, but done with the taskmanager, not with the bios, because when I disable SMT there my PC totally crashed and I need a bios reset). Expensive CPU are very overrated for gaming, even nowadays when you can play so 4k with almost every new GPU. Just get a very powerful GPU and buy a very cheap CPU combo)with board and ram), just as strong or a bit stronger than you need it, that way you get way more FPS than with a expensive CPU, exopensive board and expensive ram and a weak GPU, for the same total budget. It is not really stupid to pair a 3080 or 6900xt with a 5500, when you play mostly 4k and maybe QHD. At the moment 4k 60 hz monitor are a good budget option, for about 200. For that option even a 4100 is more than strong enough. A good budget gaming set up would be a 4500(or maybe 5500), B450 board with rx6600 and a cheap 4k 60 hz monitor, very affordable and very good, awesome value for money.

Considering the current prices, I'd say 5600 especially and even 12400F also need a shout out, since they aren't much more expensive than 12100F but come with those nice core count bonus.
As good as 12100F is on a budget, it will not age well with that 4C/8T.
5600 at 135$ with Uncharted included is the best value ever I've seen in a CPU in my opinion.

Really enjoy my 5800X for gaming and production work. Not too sold on the 3D version yet tho as it doesn't do well with content creation and such.

in case of content creation, x3d isn't for it. so, your purchase is on point.

You definitely hit a sweat spot with your purchase. I bought the 5900x for my Blender workstation. And to be honest, I almost never make use of the full 24 threads.
The 5800x is definitely the best when it comes to price to performance. And Having more cores than 8 really only matters if you are running fluid simulations. Or if you are a virtual machine fiend like I am turning into.
You made the right choice, dude. The 5800x non 3d version is underrated.

@@robertkeaney9905 Ahh that sucks man. I considered the 5900 as well, but wasn't even doing much 3D stuff, so figured it would've been overkill. Good that you can still utilize it by running virtual machines tho!
I'd love to upgrade this 5800X but don't see what I could upgrade it to after just having bought a new mobo and new ram (have to stick to AM4 a bit longer).
Will have to bite through until the new series gets the 3D treatment and becomes a bit more affordable to make the full switch.

@@DeejayJeanP Do Whatever suits your needs man. If you ever decide to get into heavy rendering work flows, then going for a ton of cores isn't a bad investment at all.
It'll save you a lot of time on larger renders actually. Also if you are getting a new motherboard and new ram, then I hope you find a combo that works you dude.
And I hope that prices drop on the new series next year. So eventually you can get that upgrade.

@@robertkeaney9905 Interesting, I'll keep that in mind - thanks for the heads up man.
I've been getting into Unreal Engine and doing renders in that, too much of a noob still to see how well the hardware works for now.
Might do a CPU upgrade if I start running into issues, but for now the 4090 doesn't seem to be throttled, and render times are alright.
      Thanks again man!

Upgraded my 3600 to a 5800x when Amazon matched the price to the 5700x. Can’t wait to test it out!

Finally made the decision to upgrade from my 2017 i7 7700K. Picked up a 7700X at the dropped price today!
Thanks for all your reviews Steve. Guess this is it for me for the next whatever number of years, probably will pick up an X3D version in the future, hopefuly AMD doesnt screw up their final X3D for this X670 Series

What would be my best option to upgrade from a 9700 non k? Using rtx 4080 and the 9700 is holding it back. Thanks for any help.
