    Interesting. I have been using what I called a “modified” bowl method for years…ever since I saw the bowl method. Mainly because I didn’t have a big bowl and I thought having SOMETHING else to use on my hair seemed daunting. So, I fill my bathroom sink with water. Apply stylers when I get out of the shower then only dunk once (maybe twice if I see frizz). Then I scrunch the stylers in, plop then microplop. Dunking my hair gives me nice clumps and curl definition. Thanks for showing this!

    I tried this twice and also experienced wet frizz, but I think I wasn’t using enough product. I had way longer hair when I was doing this and feel like I’ve never used enough. I will try using more and really dunking it in! Thank you for showing this! Also it could have been the actual products but I have some new ones to try including the new thickening lotion.

    Tried this & it killed my neck but I learned a lot. Now I am applying leave-in conditioner in the shower & adding some water, getting out with much wetter (seaweed) hair than I was before. I’m much more aware of wet frizz now. I’ll probably try it again and am glad I tried it even if it won’t become my routine. Love your take on it/observations, I too am getting really flat on top so I need to rewatch your routine & brushing up from the roots. Thank you for everything you share on your channel!

    Your hair come out SO fantastic!! I literally thought your hair (before you had washed it) was straight & this blew my eyes & mind!😊
    I’m curly haired if I start from wet hair & wavy haired if I blow dry it with a brush that’s ceramic under the bristles…
    but for me, I got too much frizz (this could be a # of things starting with my just recently bleached and then bleached washed my hair about 2 weeks ago & the dryness it caused, or product buildup & or needing a trim or all the above) even after removing the products 2x & starting over.
    The only time I got it to work & look OK was basically letting it air dry (it’s still drying 2.5 hrs later) because my diffuser doesn’t attach to my blow dryer & I have to hand hold it 😂 and it gets too hot & I drop the diffuser & it causes more than frizz after I’ve done scrambled around for the durn thing & getting back in position, peeling hair outta my eyes and mouth…
    well any-ways I’m sure this could be my problem overall & until I can get a new universal one, I won’t know if that is the issue but I would love to have your outcome or Sophie Marie’s outcome.
    My hair is way more curlier, but still overall takes the shape of Similar to your hair. Sophie Marie seems to have more wavy & I don’t know if that’s the lengths or some thing but wow, your hair came out so great I just I love it. Thank you for sharing.😊

Full bowl start, leave-in condish, rinse, gel, rinse, little bit of gel, plop overnight/at least five hours, mouse on minimally damp hair. Might diffuse for a final dry, might not. (Can’t use oil since I have fine curls and it makes mine look awful.) I’ve been super happy with this!

    Hey Courtney,
    so I have tried this method following step by step. I almost thing that we are hair twins as I experienced wet frizz as well. My trick to that was wide tooth comb right after I took the hair out of the ball and then scrunched. The comb helped create frizz free clumps and when I scrunched they joined back together but there was minimum frizz. I normally style with gel, barely ever with foam but I tried foam this time. I think I did something wrong. My definition of all the hair below my ears is on point, even some ringlets there however the top is a mess with no definition and no clumping there at all :D I might need to restyle tomorrow in the morning :D

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney

    I have trouble with flatness on top. I purchased (on Amazon) some knock off root combs similar, but about a quarter of the price, of the interlocking combs sold by the curly girl method website. If I am flat, I either interlock them on top to lift the roots until they are dry OR I will have my hair completely dry then spray my roots with hairspray, then I'll take a root comb and lift my hair straight up a couple of inches and shoot the roots with my hairdryer (with the attachment that really concentrates on a small area). That really gives me decent lift! It might be a little 1980's of me, but I like lift on top to avoid having a Christmas tree shaped hair style. My hair is heavy so it needs help! I think your curls turned out great! I will have to try this method for sure!

It was great result, done it couple of times, got my hair super overmoisturized 😅 but what it did thst I could finally wear my hair without styling - i.e. It was looking almost straight and it was nice not having to spend eternity on styling and diffusing 🥰 probably not the result most CGM girls are looking for but it was nice side effect of overmoisturized hair

    I used to do something like the bowl method without realizing. I live in a very humid state like you, but I had no access to products. My hair was so damaged because I never knew I had curly hair. I would wash my hair, detangle out of the shower and then scrunch. But I noticed that my clumps were not good. So I started rewetting my hair under the shower head and scrunching the water out and then scrunching with a shirt, then air dried. It did me well for not having any products.

    • @kendall8
      @kendall8 Рік тому +1

      @@karissathatcher9206 I would still have frizz, but my hair was also very damaged which could have played a role in it too. It was like the bowl method but not entirely. I would wash my hair, condition (but not rinse it out completely), detangle right side up out of the shower. And then, I would flip my head upside down and wet my hair under the shower head. I would then scrunch out the excess water, not pulsing, just scrunching. Then I would scrunch side to side and right side up. And then I would air dry while scrunching occasionally. Sorry if this sounds confusing. Products definitely help me now, but this is how I got kicked off on my journey.

I am curious about another adjustment to this new method would be to use less water in the bowel so not diluting the products as much and then doing a bit to get the hair off the back of your head. I've only had curls that developed in my early 30s, but have had gorgeous 3a clumps on the bottom, where it all started. I've always been an upside down styler for volume, but currently have a 3 level failed cervical fusion, so am trying to figure this cg stuff out without going upside down. Also, I'm now 57 and don't really want to stop covering my gray. Well, more like the growing out process, but to do a one time color to match my gray would do way more damage than the 6weeks coloring. My top is no where near as pretty as my underneath, which makes sense, because I'm always doing those roots. Ugh.

      With fine and thin hair you need very, very light products, without Butters (Sheabutter), and heavy Oils.
      I think that the "Direkt Leave in" from Giovanni is a very good product for your hair, and because of the damaging you should use Proteins in your Routine, then your hair will look healthier. Check out the video from Courtney about the Gelantine-Treatment, I think that this is great for you.

    • @trueblonde316
      @trueblonde316 Рік тому +8

      My hair started off very stringy while it was in transition. Stay the course. Take pictures and keep an album on your phone with notes about what worked and didn’t. BUT don’t throw products away that don’t work now. Your hair will change a lot with the changing weather seasons, hair health etc. Revisit those products again later under different conditions. Also try to simplify your wash days. Shampoo, conditioner, leave-in and a hard hold gel. As your curl memory comes back you can try softer hold gels or just creams. The products and amounts are making it sticky.

    • @AmyGouletHealth
      @AmyGouletHealth Рік тому

      Everyone’s hair is different-you can try what people suggest but what works for one person often does not work for another. I also have fine, wavy hair and it does not like heavy products. I also have to clarify a lot more. My hair’s favorite shampoo is the suave daily clarifying shampoo. I use a conditioner with some protein in it. I am three years into my curly hair journey and can just now use deeper moisturizing products occasionally. And that varies by the season! You will figure it out! Have fun with the journey! (Okay, and I know that I said what works for me might not work for you but Harry’s gel is my holy grail. I layer it on top of a curl foam and lighter hold gel.)
