- After swapping a new Traxxas HOSS & hyper VS for a used 8S XMAXX, I needed to fix the steering and purchase some batteries for it. While I was at it I picked up a few mods and now I can finally get it up and running. In this video, I take it out and experience the XMAXX for the first time.

When I started watching your channel a year or so ago, I never thought I’d see you bashing an XMaxx. If you are still looking for more ways to branch out, I suggest you get an LMT and build a Monster Truck course in your garden.
I got my first xmaxx 10 days ago, green like you, I own over 30 fully running rc vehicles and after 10 minutes this became my favourite one ever
Stock gearing with paddle tires is EPIC! Remember to tape the holes in the tire rims, else they will explode when water get inside.

For gearing, go right between the stock, and speed gears. I believe I run a 20-50
Get new aftermarket rear hubs, and new threaded hinge pins at a minimum!
And say goodbye to that nice body! Few crashes without re enforcing it will be game over.
Saying that, This is one of the best rc's ever made!

Welcome to the club my friend. Keep the stock gearing, it's a beast right out of the box.
The stock gearing on the 8s X-Maxx already is pretty good tbh. I personally run the optional 46T spur in it with the standard 18T pinion, still plenty power for wheelies with that. When mine is due for a rebuild i might upgrade to a 19 or 21T pinion though i suspect the latter will be pushing the ESC a bit too much. Only one way to find out.. Good luck, it's a great truck!

Yep he’s a big fan of the XMAXX and he pushes them to the limit. I can see why he loves them.
X-Maxx is a beast. You can see mine running on my channel. Keep the gearing stock if you’re running 8S and stock motor/ESC combo. I already burned the stock motor out on stock gearing. Also, I would remove the grease from your pinion and spur. Dust gets in there and it will just turn into grinding paste.
If you’re running through puddles, tape the holes up on the inside of the wheels before hand. Most important, remember to give it hell. 👍😍

It’s definitely one that demands respect when giving it full beans. It’s a really expensive truck to purchase and also run with dual 4S batteries. I was lucky I had the opportunity to swap other cars for it as I couldn’t justify the massive outlay myself.

20 tooth pinion and 50 tooth spur is perfect you have all the power you need for wheelies and backflips. also has a great top speed as well mine will do a little over 50mph
They are awesome machines. I’ve had mine a few years and it has been through absolute hell. Still my favorite RC to drive. No questions.

50/20. It will not run too hot, even on 90°f+ days. Never hit thermal cutoff no matter how hard or how long I ran in the heat. Top speed is near 50 mph...
Servo testers are your friend. They are only a couple of quid and you dont need to hook up a reciever and battery to test them

It’s a central prop brace to help protect bending on hard landing.

I like ratio 18/50 it's between Stock (18/54) and the included speed Spur gear (46 teeth)
I found that way too slow, I run 20/46 and not had any issues in the last year 👍🏻

I got back into rc cars apx 4 years ago. First few were tamiya because I like to build and the nostalgia. But I soon learned that they are good to build and remenice but not breat to run, boring in fact, I am no basher but I do not buy tamiya any more for cars to drive, have some on shelf, rest of the run of Mills gave been sold. Sorry but feed up with tamiya near toy grade and gimmicky quirky stuff.

Why do you grease your pinion gear. It will collect alot dirt and grind it down.
I do regular maintenance so it's not a problem for me.

Keep the stock gearing ratio, looking for more speed you'll loose a lot of running time and your expensive lipos will be too hot after use, plus the extra speed is useless if you're using it off road. I'm using an XMaxx 8s since it came out 4 or 5 years ago: upgraded servo, xt90 plugs, everything else is stock...
The servo was changed by the previous owner as the kit one died.
