3 things i hate about the Xmaxx are:
The servo, Should be metal geared or true 1/5 servo.
The tyres, they are light and perform well, but they need thicker rubber or belts to stop them from exploding, or just halve the price 😂
Last issue isnt with the truck it self, just that its hard to find places where you can really enjoy the truck. Hammering around a grass field isnt fun for long 😅

I belted my tires by myself with very fine stainless steel mesh glued into it from the inside.
You also can use a steel wire and put it in the center profile groove we’re it runs very straight and twist the ends..
That also helps the tires to not Ballon like hell

Biggest thing I didn't like was hauling it around. Buying a bag for it made it better to own, but after 3 years loving it, I didn't want an rc that big anymore. I was attempting to trade it for a Maxx, but the Maxx isn't big enough lol. I wish they made a mid Maxx. In between the xmaxx and Maxx, would be perfect to me.
2nd thing was, why on earth did they put the heavier diff fluid in the rear dif??? And rear shock springs were a total miss. Useless, even with my lean setup. In the end, I swapped the front and rear diffs to setup like every other 3 diff 4wd vehicle in the world, thinned the 20 million wt center diff fluid very slightly to help bleed just a little power off to the front wheels so that I could use more throttle leaving the turns without lifting the front end and it was the best handling Mt I've ever ran. So nimble and controllable.
    My only 2 gripes.
Once I lowered the xmaxx a little, tuned the diff fluids, tuned the shock oil and springs, and ran some lightweight 5200 60c batteries, the power system and tires worked very well together and did not seem under powered at all.
Running on a track against my buds x with mega power system with huge packs and proline tires, mine handled like a truggy, his handled like a wrecking ball.

I jumped back into r/c heavy this year. My wife got the hoss and I got the eRevo 2.0. I love my eRevo but it's big and requires 2 batteries. For just driving in my yard and in the driveway, it's just too big. I have to commit to going to a park or running in the street. To big, fast and powerful.
End up driving my wife's Hoss at home. 1 battery endless wheelies, easy to manuver around the yard.
Just converted my OG Revo 2.5 into Brushless and it's great for home bashing. 1 3s battey and almost as manuverable as the Hoss.

All of your dislikes were good ones. Good review. I often scratch my head about decisions made by companies like Traxxas. Why don't they put a metal gear servo in this monster. I know it's to save money, but for an expensive truck it should be included. It always baffled me that Traxxas doesn't include a transmitter with their basic Slash and Bandit that has a control for steering travel. A lot of the drivers who buy those cars need that. It saves then a little bit money, but it should be included.

    • @DanDblU

It's all about gross margin. Traxxas makes great product, but they nickle and dime ya. They know that stock 2085 is going to break and you'll have to upgrade to a 2085x for $100, OR at the minimum buy their servo adapter so you can fit a non-Traxxas servo. Almost everyone I know w an Xmaxx has killed the stock servo in the 1st few runs. Traxxas KNOWS what they're doing! That's also why they use a cheap plastic servo horn....guaranteed to strip! Cheap wheel bearings...they'll break around the time your servo does...lol

Good points. As far as the X-Maxx goes I feel everyone should own one. Truly epic beast of a truck.
There's a reason it's considered by many, the King of all bashers.
I'm neither a Traxxas or Arrma fan boy as I own both, plus a lot of other manufacturers cars.
Mine must be a freak as I run all the stock electronics. My steering servo has held up perfectly for now on 20 months. The stock ESC is fine if you use good quality LiPos. (Though I have a HW max6 waiting to go in with the 6S 1600kv motor).
Only mods on mine is 50wt shock oil all round (Try it.. make the car so much better when you bash)
The RPM rear hub carriers and that's it. Traxxas nailed it with this truck and it gets a lot of attention anywhere you drive it lol.
As for the tyres and gear train. I'm probably preaching to the choir here but don't use the self righting feature. I've blown tyres apart before and many I bash with have stripped gears and done a lot of damage to their drive trains using it. Look if its square on its roof maybe, but I'd rather walk over and flip it rather risk ending my day early.
Good points though Mark... Think it's time to unleash the beast this weekend!!

It's a sick truck ! It's massive size makes such a statement. The tires it comes with are not the best , BUT they are great for rips around the yard, for serious sessions at the skate park doing sky high jumps or freestyle madness in the woods, we usually toss steel belted tires. The servo is a mist do mod or upgrade once the stock one bites the bullet. Rear RPM hub carriers are a must when stock ones break. As far as dengerous...my airplanes, helicopters ...F.E. boats ALL can be dangerous and have to be respected..heck walking out the front door these days is dangerous!
I say , if your gonna run best to make everyone (ESPECIALLY SPECTATORS) stay far enough back, that if something goes crazy they are hopefully out of the way.

Thankfully i bought my first one used and it already came with the traxxas servo upgrade. I did drop a max6 in it and geared it up to 20/50 and it hits 48mph. It don't sound like a lot but that's plenty on this big of a truck hahahahaha. Duratrax six pack x's or the hatchet x's are an in between weight for the tires that are decent. I've heard some have them crack wheels jumping but i don't really jump that often. My max6 truck runs the six packs and my wild build max5/800kv combo geared 1:1 runs the hatchets. Found out the hard way the traxxas receiver don't like more than 6v so the monster maxx is running a dumborc setup that is good up to 10v but it's pushing my servo with 7.4.

I was really hoping for backflips like the 8 scales but obviously it’s way bigger. Does it looks cool yes hands down awesome looking. do I like charging both batterys? No 😂 do I like carrying it around? No 🤣 I’m just build dirt track with ramps in back yard and leave it park there. 😂 if you travel somewhere with this big rig forget about it. Leave it home and take 1/8 scales with ya. battery went dead a mile away from the car and I’ll tell u what, it wasn’t fun to drag it all the way back. My fully upgraded $1400 Kraton 4S costs about the same as an upgraded X-Maxx... but my "Cindy" would literally drift circles around an X-Maxx which would tip over half way to trying to keep up with Cindy. It's top heavy and tips over... I only like cars with a low center of gravity and a wide wheel base. An X-Maxx gets crossed off of my list at first sight.
