As an owner of both, X-Maxx for about 5 years ( Updated all the V3 parts like the hub carriers to bigger bearing units) and the XRT for a few months they are both awesome RC's. Far from a Traxxas fan boi (as I own a few Arrma weapons aswell) but for what they are I love both the XRT and X-Maxx. It's still the king for out of the box bashers. Yea I'll still take the XMAXX anyday I feel you went out of your way to put the XRT in a better light. Even when you were on the Chucky terrain you said neither truck had an advantage totally ignoring the fact the XMAXX ground clearance. Yet actually found pluses to the XRT even though it was way out of it use case.
I agree with you on this. to me he has just made the xrt sound boring because it does exactly everything you ask of it with no character is how it came across. As where as the xmaxx has character lifting a front wheel when going around a corner like a trophy truck popping wheelies and much more. the whole video was a negative towards the xmaxx
@@rossbiberger6765 everyone is definitely different. The reasons you listed as pluses for the xmaxx are cons for me. I have both and the xmaxx is no where near as good or as fun as the xrt to me. Drives worse, jumps worse, flies worse it does everything worse except look goofy.
yeash..its as if traxxas paid A main to try to push the XRT because people are realizing its not the "basher" the Xmaxx holds the well deserved crown for. XRT never made any sense to me...unless a new "big" track racing league started....btw, it hasnt! if it does...im not joining.

I have both trucks. They each have their own personality. Just a few things… Cooling isn’t that different. Xmaxx uses a duel fan and the Xrt uses two separate single fan units. Both measure same temperature as the Xrt is geared harder than the xmaxx. I personally like the narrow style on the xmaxx for performing bicycle tricks and overall stunts are performed better. I like the challenge that the xmaxx gives. Once you master it, it’s very cool! I also love the Xrt for high speed racing around. Both trucks a equal and I can’t settle for one. thank you for your maturity and honesty. This is how i felt since the 1st announcement of the xrt...."looks cool, but its missing the point of XMAXX-NESS" iykyk!!
I have both, if I had to pick one it would be the XRT. Both awesome and you cant go wrong with either one though. Personally I prefer the handling, balance and drifting of the XRT but for pure stunts the X-Maxx feels more capable. XRT looks best as well, especially with some nice wheels :)
I actuality prefer the Xmaxx clipless system. The XRT one got damaged very easily for me. A couple of of tumbles and the plastic got warped to the point I had to smack one of the rear corners to make it latch. Extremely disappointing as at first I loved it and found it much easier to install. You can use some foam blocks to back the latches which is what I’ve done and it works alright now but that one corner still needs a bit of extra encouragement. To be fair, I will gladly take either over body clips, and same for the battery hold downs. I just find Velcro straps and body clips too fidly and less secure. When I go bash I want as little prep time as possible
Always gonna be whiners and haters 🙄 I think both of these are awesome. I have the XRT, an orange one and I love it! The 2 cooling fans definitely keep the temps down. I get 40-45 mins drive time out of the 2 traxxas 6700mah 4s lipos I use. And after the batteries are depleted, the motor is barely even warm. But I won’t lie, if I ended up with the XMaxx instead, I’d probably be just as happy! Great video!
I'm really looking forward to Traxxas updating the XMAXX to include a clipless body system and improving some of the suspension components. But I want them to retain the silliness that is the XMAXX ... top heavy, monster truck ultimate basher. -- I feel when they updated the MAXX to only be widebodied they removed the silliness of that vehicle.
Good video and good a comparison. I have a few of both. Each have their strong points and weaknesses. It all depends on what environment you are running the RC in, how you have it set up, and what you feel like doing. In my case, I have a tendency (so far at least), to run a XMaxx more often. I prefer the higher center clearance on the XMaxx when bashing; and the XRT for pavement.
I find it funny how people in the comment section need to compare the XRT to the Kraton 8s for some reason. It’s like the RC community isn’t actually enjoyable when everyone around you wants to kill you for liking a different car from them. For me, I’d love just to have one of them. Heck, if I could have both, I’d totally take them. Having 2 cars is better than one
The God-help-you if you don't have a Kraton stuff is so omnipresent on social, and so aggressively and randomly offered everywhere it pops up, that I'm almost sure it's a very committed gorilla marketing ploy.
The dirty secret these popular UA-camrs (Not Amain) won't say, is that Traxxas RCs dont really break that often, however, the parts WILL CRACK quite often. The cracks can be hard to notice unless the owner conducts a thorough inspection. These cracks caused me diff leaks due to bulkheads cracking, pins falling out, etc. It's getting fixed as I write this comment, and I dont even bash!!!! . I also own a Hobao Hyper MT Sport Plus thats nearly five years old, never experienced any structural issues, no drive train issues, and definitely no cracked plastic. It's your money though lol
I got'em both. I love'em both. What I will say is that the handling difference between the 2 really is night and day. The XRT runs rings around the Xmaxx. On the other hand, the Xmaxx has a presence that the XRT can't match.
X-Maxx is definitely more fun and better looking overall. The plastic hubs and arms are also vulnerable to break however traxxas should ship the new xmaxx with the hd arms and hubs with the updated body clip holder. My new xmaxx after first run bashing..broke lower arm, shock Shaft bent, and cvd bent...it's was fun to drive but didn't expect it to break that easily
a couple of thingss to note at well you can get the hd arms for the xmaxx without going widemaxx, im pretty sure the newer xmaxx comes widebody already but im not 100% on that one, and also the xrt hubs are interchangeable with the xmaxx and they are quite a upgrade becaue not only is the plastic more durable by being thicker it actually uses a new inner wheel bearing that is bigger than stock and will last much longer but keep in mind you will need to buy those bearings if you want to upgrade
I got the XRT 5 months ago have really enjoyed owning it. I'm not really a fan of monster truck look and its my first traxxas RC and biggest I have gone for scale size
XRTs are nice but upgrading an X-Maxx is the best. There are a lot of good upgrades for the X-Maxx and the XRT. My X-Maxx is all VITAVON upgraded, even the chassis but it was way more money than stock trucks. I have 3 X-Maxx 1 almost stock, 1 half upgraded and 1 fully upgraded. They are all amazing.
I enjoyed your take on these two trucks. It seems like both are fun and can handle some true bashing/ racing. In your video you stated northern California, is that track you raced on near you. I live in a small town and we have several backyard tracks but no professional courses, would love to take my slash 4×4 to one.
No way, we're in Chico, Ca., is that close to you? That track is our Silverdollar RC Raceway located in the fairgrounds here in Chico and it's open during the day to play on. You should definitely come check it out if you have the chance. -Brett
@AMain_Hobbies Chico is about 2 hours from me, I'm in lake county CA. I'd love to come see that track if I get a chance, thank you for the info and response
The Xmaxx looks in proportion, whereas the XRT looks weird to me. Also the Xmaxx isn't designed for tarmac. It's like comparing a Dirt bike to a road bike
Couldn't agree more ... especially scale bodies. Would love a scale quad or Jeep CJ body for my X-Maxx. I'm making a quad-body out of an old kid's Power-wheels toy, but it's not really scale.
I've broken less stuff on my XRT compared to the Xmaxx. I like the clip less system better and the XRT is easier to work on when replacing the ESC and motor. The battery fasteners are better too. I still love my Xmaxx though. I had to upgrade a lot more stuff on the Xmaxx when I went with an XLX2 and 1100kv motor 5687 HW motor too. I did the same upgrade on my XRT and I only put drive cup sleeves and it's been working great with the extra power so far after like 8 battery packs. Another reason why I like the XRT better. It can take the extra power better than the stock Xmaxx. My experience. Plus the XRT can go much faster with no issues.
The XRT is just better. I can climb over things like the xmaxx. But wow, it actually handles prerry good. Very similar to a racing truggy but with a more aggressive rear end (can be tuned out). Go anywhere and do it all truly Oh free mod, swap the spur gear and only the spur gear out of the box. Good temps and more speed. Wheelie as far as you want
As much as I wanna argue one over the other you just can’t. They are built on the same platform-ish. They both have their place in any collection and there isn’t a need to sell one for the other. It just depends on your use for it
I feel Like U Should Have Both In The Collection, After I Buy My XRT I Will Buy A Xmaxx Used Unless They Drop A Clipless System Edition Like The XRT Or Sledge
If Traxxas just released a LCG chassis like the one on the xrt ages ago I would of kept my X-maxx. Got tired of the horrible handling. I actually asked them about a LCG chassis like they made for the slash 4-5 years ago but they said there were no plans. With the XRT I am finally back to a Traxxas product. Minus all of the stock electronics.
The Maxx is a great basher, most similar to the X-Maxx. The Sledge would be a step up from the Maxx in size and power, and it's most similar to the XRT. Not sure if you're set on Traxxas or not, but the 6S BLX line from Arrma has many good choices too, with the Mojave and Kraton standing out. What kind of terrain will you be driving in; pretty smooth or chunky/uneven? -Brett
love my xrt but it drives like crap. the understeer is really bad and it pushes super hard. I've read putting the sledgehammer tires on it helps as well as adding adjustable links to give it toe in/camber.
First Nice Video as allways from you :) Now I got them both and I like them both but if you wanna go faat and Race the XRT is better. If you wanna go for Jumps or Snow the Xmaxx is better. The electronic is trash from both. I channged the ESC by XRT and put a MAX6 set the punch on 1. More fun more speed so i put other gearing 46/27. Put also 2 Rocket fans into the motor cooling. Changeg the reciever and servo and of course the tires , I put Proline Badlands MX43 on Both trucks. I also spendet the Wide kit for the XMaxx and now its more stabel and makes more fun. Best Regards from Germany and keep going 😊😊😊
I think, just because of the shorter arms and the higher Position of the xmaxx, the xmaxx maybe make more fun....but xrt is better yes. The xmaxx, you have so the ability to tip over when maximum steering....In tight curves. And the wheelie on the xrt is not easy, but with New combo, better than the stock and the right gearing, it will backflip...but...better use high c rate batteries. Or they will collapse. 60c is too less, even if theyre really 60c. I use 120c and no more Green flashing on the Esc by using 25/33 mod 1,5 gearing. And faster servo than the stock, theyre stock not well.
Better? Not even close but xrt is still neat. Nothing beats xmaxx for fun and coolness. People still freak out everytime I pull out that truck and so do I 😅. It's the monster truck like suspension action and handling behavior that makes it so cool. The new truggy style of trucks like this and kraton though they handle better are still just not nearly as cool and everyone knows it 😂😂
Buy widemaxx, buy xrt heat sink, and shocks. Replace the parts on the Xmaxx when you want the speed, and put the Xmaxx parts back on when you want powah. Total cost including truck, batteries and charger: $1,800. Having both trucks in 1? Priceless.
One big fan is waaaay more efficient than two little guys. Traxxas is a 'judge a book by it's cover' type of company and made the twin fan design purely for looks.
Regardless if the heatsink was thought of by Traxxas as just for looks, it’s still a no brainer that 2 fans vs 1 fan = cooler. While running in 90 plus degree weather my XRT ran 16 degrees cooler than the XMAXX.
Whats the part number for the Traxxas X-Maxx Wheelie Bar? I cant find the one for the Xmaxx.. Im going to lower my Xmaxx slightly soon and i have the widemaxx kit. So do i want the XRT wheelie bar or are they the same? Should i go with Traxxas or Aftermarket brands for the Xmaxx Wheelie Bar? Any recommendations? Thanks
I believe the wheelie bar is the same between the X-Maxx and XRT. Here it is: www.amainhobbies.com/traxxas-xmaxx-xrt-wheelie-bar-black-tra7776/p628275 -Brett
I Will completely echo many others the Xmaxx has a unique feel u can get with anything else out there many have come and all have fallen the xrt witch I Owen also isn’t my cup of tea I’d go k8 any day over the xrt 100% however fun factor just simple smile factor Xmaxx in my house for the will still the king!
Just FYI more material =ing stronger Is not always a good thing Especially on RC cars you want as much flex as possible before it goes snappy snappy So in this case instead of say, the hub breaking, it's probably going to break where the A-arm attaches to the frame And it some cases that could actually be the frame that lets go of the A-arm, rather than the arm letting go of the frame Especially on RC cars we can pick and choose what the weak link is that'll break So, stronger isn't ALWAYS better, it just changes what the weakest link is
Shock adjust rear and front shock leave it adjustment. X-maxx the off road worrier like the ford raptor 👍 many part available for performance then Xrt handling promoted xas
X-Maxx is like the Bigfoot Monster Truck…sure there are others out there, but there’s only one X-Maxx lol Re the XRT, can the understeer not be dialled out but adjusting toe-angle / camber etc etc etc ?
the best it whatever one puts the biggest smile on your face, and for me.....
....XMAXX!!!!!

I just picked up an XMAXX. Same color even.
I want an XMaxx now!!!
Subjective: which is better. Lots of things to consider plus personal preference.
loved seeing the xmax plow over the xrt
If Traxxas just released a LCG chassis like the one on the xrt ages ago I would of kept my X-maxx. Got tired of the horrible handling. I actually asked them about a LCG chassis like they made for the slash 4-5 years ago but they said there were no plans.
With the XRT I am finally back to a Traxxas product. Minus all of the stock electronics.
Compare the ultimate versions now :D
Ghost RC at the end of video
thanks for the video, on the fence on what 1/8 truck model to by for $500 - $1000??
The Maxx is a great basher, most similar to the X-Maxx. The Sledge would be a step up from the Maxx in size and power, and it's most similar to the XRT. Not sure if you're set on Traxxas or not, but the 6S BLX line from Arrma has many good choices too, with the Mojave and Kraton standing out. What kind of terrain will you be driving in; pretty smooth or chunky/uneven?

XMaxx winner
Please do E-Revo 2.0 vs XRT?
love my xrt but it drives like crap. the understeer is really bad and it pushes super hard. I've read putting the sledgehammer tires on it helps as well as adding adjustable links to give it toe in/camber.
They should come out with either a 3s or 4s XRT
First Nice Video as allways from you :)
Now I got them both and I like them both but if you wanna go faat and Race the XRT is better.
Epic video.
Works really dang well....ad nauseum
Amain im stuck between the xmaxx and sledge what would you recommend
Not sure where you got your xmaxx but mine being a week old looks nothing like yours with regards to parts having “material gone”
XRT be like an abedient trained dog where as an Xmaxx is like a very loveable untrained puppy 😂
I have both and love both of them.....XRT and XMAXX are awesome!!!! You definitely hit the nail on the head with all points!! great Vid 💯
Better? Not even close but xrt is still neat. Nothing beats xmaxx for fun and coolness. People still freak out everytime I pull out that truck and so do I 😅. It's the monster truck like suspension action and handling behavior that makes it so cool. The new truggy style of trucks like this and kraton though they handle better are still just not nearly as cool and everyone knows it 😂😂
they diddn't mention the self righting
Buy widemaxx, buy xrt heat sink, and shocks. Replace the parts on the Xmaxx when you want the speed, and put the Xmaxx parts back on when you want powah. Total cost including truck, batteries and charger: $1,800. Having both trucks in 1? Priceless.
Will you try the ultimate editions ?
Yeah, if we can get our hands on them we definitely will.

Here it is: www.amainhobbies.com/traxxas-xmaxx-xrt-wheelie-bar-black-tra7776/p628275

Like Kev says xmaxx is love
I Will completely echo many others the Xmaxx has a unique feel u can get with anything else out there many have come and all have fallen the xrt witch I Owen also isn’t my cup of tea I’d go k8 any day over the xrt 100% however fun factor just simple smile factor Xmaxx in my house for the will still the king!
Perfect timing for this video lol
how is xrt compared to xmaxx ultimate?
Does the xrt sit lower and more stable?
Just FYI more material =ing stronger
Is not always a good thing
Especially on RC cars you want as much flex as possible before it goes snappy snappy
So in this case instead of say, the hub breaking, it's probably going to break where the A-arm attaches to the frame
And it some cases that could actually be the frame that lets go of the A-arm, rather than the arm letting go of the frame
Especially on RC cars we can pick and choose what the weak link is that'll break
So, stronger isn't ALWAYS better, it just changes what the weakest link is
I'll keep my XMAXX, It's just a fun RC truck. I'll upgrade it as I use it.
Looks like a big revo
Question, If One Of The Wide Arms Break, Do We Have To Buy The Whole Kit Again Or They Sell It Single Arm?
You can buy the pieces individually. Good question.
-Brett
why the plastic wheel hex's still?
what a surprise the monster truck is less stable than the truggy
Xmaxx is still king. 😎
Shock adjust rear and front shock leave it adjustment. X-maxx the off road worrier like the ford raptor 👍 many part available for performance then Xrt handling promoted xas
XRT is more fun too drive with the gear change...but as far as durability XMAXX wins hands down!
X-Maxx is like the Bigfoot Monster Truck…sure there are others out there, but there’s only one X-Maxx lol
Re the XRT, can the understeer not be dialled out but adjusting toe-angle / camber etc etc etc ?
Harder Rubber wheels would be cool.
Definitely seemed like you were favoring the XRT the whole time. Especially on the track driving the xmaxx so conservatively.
I have X-maxx convert Xrt already
