Never in my past 16 year old selfs mind did I EVER think I'd see Knocked Loose on a UA-cam page like this... like I always knew them as some small harcore band in the scene. Didn't know until today this many people knew of them! Fuckin love it!
Im 42, and I have lost touch with the music scene over the years. But like you I grew up with all the oldies, but Im not too stuck in my ways to appreciate talent. I gotta say, these guys are something special. Their animated EP was a masterpiece! Im so addicted I have started to annoy my wife! I hope these guys get the recognition they deserve, and it seems to be going that way for them! arf! arf!
I got my start in hardcore bands and the fact that Knocked Loose is getting such a broad scope of audience now really gives me hope. Gotta see you dive deeper into Gojira if you want the groove, I promise you won't be disappointed!
Oh yes Gojira is the epitome of doing so much but doing it right. The pick scrapes, the tapping, the breakdowns, the harmonized guitar riffs, the time signature changes etc… They do sooooo much in each song and somehow always tie it all together and it works perfectly.
Was expecting a different vocal tone based on the instrumental tones. Gotta appreciate a vocalist who can do this repeatedly without blowing out their vocal chords, I suppose there is an art to it
So, I went to school for audio engineering/music production, and it's part of how I make a living these days. Here's how most of these incredible live mixes happen: They record the mics/DIs into a DAW, straight from the mixing board at the show. After they record, someone does a mix of the show to be able to hear the performance in the most epic way possible. It includes the normal stuff: eliminating mic bleed, levels, EQ, compression, time-based effects, etc. They don't usually "doctor" any performances though, especially with a band like this where there aren't any clean vocals to use pitch correction on. Knocked Loose truly is this good live.
I need friends in my life that nerd out on music like this... at 47 it's not easy. Great Vid, love the energy. My fav KL is Still I Wander south... Gnarly groove.
Their live shows are beyond crazy and sounds exactly like this. They are the absolute greatest opening band of all time. I’ve seen so many bands but this one brings crazy energy.
I think it's Meshuggah that introduced that dissonant siren-esque guitar lead during breakdowns. Makes me think of Future breed machine. And the decadently brutal 43% burnt by Dillinger Escape Plan.
Yep, I instantly thought of Future Breed Machine. So glad I got to see them play it live back in 2002 before their catalog got huge after like 10 albums later lol
so I mentored a kid for 5 years and got introduced to all of these bands. Slaughter To Prevail and August Burns Red are two of my favorites. The coolest thing was getting to go to concerts where the median age was 15. Seeing kids see their favorite bands for the first time and watching them lose their minds reminded me how that used to feel when my knees worked and gas money was all I needed to get through the week
I saw Knocked Loose live on Halloween last year and they sounded this good. I will say part of how their live mix is so good is because they use digital amp modelers for the house mix bit they also use real amps for stage sound so what you’re hearing is probably a mix of both
Michael, you've been spoiling us metal nerds with these recent uploads. Thank you! Love your content, it helps me discover other great artists outside of metal and that's always good for a music diet.
Damn Michael you are killing it recently with the videos. I didn’t watch a video of yours for roughly a month but I couldn’t keep away from these last 6 videos you’ve put out. Really digging the heavier vibes… thanks for what you do.
Wasn’t a Knocked Loose fan until I saw this concert footage. Absolute fun to see your reaction and love your breakdown of the elements of this opener! 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
The best description of the band is that they’re a blend of the 90s/00s industrial noise sound, grooves of djent, and the technical skill of modern metal. The vocals and sound are not for everyone. But that industrial/punk sound shines so hard as a core component
The initial grasp to fear factory was a phenomenal connection. Fear factory, devil driver, sepultura, meshugga, mushroomhead, soulfly, static x, white zombie, tool, and so many more. That whole 80s-00s evolution of metal/punk/industrial/screamo/groove metal/etc. is their entire vibe.
@@joshuafunk9438 I’m getting lots of new metal vibe. It’s not my favorite for metalcore, I agree fear factory for sure. This song does not meet the standard of modern metal though. Meshuggah is on another level. Just my opinions:)
Knocked Loose opened up for Beartooth in 2018 when I saw them in NY, when Knocked Loose played (had never heard of them before) I legit felt like their guitars were punching me in the face repetitively. It was rad lol
Right now, Knocked Loose is probably up there in terms of filthy breakdowns and original hardcore riffing. Their last EP (from which that song is taken) is just fire from start to finish.
It literally made me SO happy to watch someone listen to and appreciate this band/hardcore music who doesn't normally listen to it and GET IT. Like you got it man; you felt that. I loved this video.
@@chipzor He's speaking on the mix from the production, not their live mix. I agree with him too, pretty sure they added a sample overtop the kick to make the drums pop. Pretty sure of a snare sample as well.
What you said about "sometimes the lyrics/lead/drums/etc takes you away" is something I needed to hear. There are songs in genres I don't typically follow that steal my interest because of exactly what you just said, and now I have a way of putting it in words.
It’s funny because the type of music that Micheal plays I’m really bad at playing and learning. But this stuff is so easy for me to play. 😂 I often feel like a bad guitar player but this video makes me feel a little better about my abilities and strengths.
Love the video! For more Knocked Loose, I’d say to try out the track Belleville - such strong grooves in that one. For other adjacent bands, Kublai Khan TX has some awesome grooves, though maybe fewer switches. “Boomslang” has a great bounce to it and is a great first exposure. Counterparts is also another band with great grooves that are always moving around. “Bound to the Burn” may be their best example of this!
This is one of my favorite bands of all time now. They come from the hardcore scene which is why they are so much about crowd interaction and that "get up here" type of shit. No need to teach anything... They're playing in like Drop A on 7 strings. You should check out the band Kublai Khan and their song "The Hammer" for similar stuff to this.
Gotta say, Knocked Loose was one of the last band I’d expect you to react to. Not surprised to hear many people disliking the vocals; they’re definitely an acquired taste and not for everyone.
