I heard somewhere that a lot of this is about one of Bryan's friends being killed by a drunk driver, and that the person found god and was portraying that they were now this righteous person, despite their past. Not sure if that's actually part of it, but it makes sense when you look at the lyrics throughout the album - a lot of pain and grief.
yep I think that is big basis for songs on this as well as tear in fabric of life ep. cant remember the name, but the podcast Bryan did in May 2024, I think called downbeat?, he talks about his friend in hs who was killed.
That little hum kind of makes me think of like, a horror movie. Like an A24 film or something. Same with the videography of these music videos. I also agree with the Korn like sounds. I feel like touring with Gojira they picked up on some of their sound. I remember Bryan mentioning Gojira being an influence. I think it's Isaac that does some of the "Gojira scrapes" and the ending of The Calm that Keeps Me Awake is similar to the outro of Explosia by Gojira. Also Sit and Mourn is a very Gojira like outro. Such an ambience. Another thing that Gojira does that I like is their mixing and writing of instruments forms this like, super powerful sound. It's like Knocked Loose did this but more. I recall Isaac saying something about their new setup allows them to create what, I guess they call the "hell tone" hahahaha. I love it. I hope they keep building on to this. Richard, I saw you've never done their two singles, Deep in the Willow and Everything is Quiet now.
I’ve heard several people mention Korn when listening to The Calm that Keeps You Awake, but to me it’s totally Sepultura with the drums. I think Isaac even said as much that Sepultura was inspiration for the drumming in that track.
Glad to see you back man. I was looking for you the other day and didn’t see any videos and nothing on twitch. Time to kill it man. The new algorithm, the shorts, and the new opportunity on UA-cam is waiting for you my friend 🤘🤘
Saw them live 3 weeks ago with Slipknot. Honestly i never heard of them then they played take me home... goddamn that shit blew me away live. Def a fan now
Welcome back, Richard! It was nice to see someone react to it that hadn't heard the singles, I experienced the album much the same way. Great video! Sit & Mourn, The Calm That Keeps You Awake, Don't Reach For Me. God this album just rips start to finish, I must've heard it 4 times today.
Welcome back! I still show some of your stuff to people lol. Both reactions (your Consvmer reaction is the best!) and some of your own original music. Always get good reactions from people I show it to lol.
Actually, i think it was in Bryan's interview in The Downbeat Podcast he said that the biggest influence in this record (and also in the singles they released last year, Deep in the Willow and Everything is Quiet Now), was Gojira, because they were really engaged with their music after touring with them a couple of years ago, that's why they have these like heavy breakdowns mixed with ambient sounds and clean guitars
Hey Richard welcome back brother! You asked who used to do that kick pattern in thirst and maybe other bands have done it and not sure if you’re familiar with Bury Your Dead or not but I recognized the kick pattern right away from 33 RPM by Bury Your Dead off You Had Me at Hello. I’m from MA and you being a fellow new englander I’m assuming this was the song you were referring too.
Great album, absolutely in love with the production on this thing. Some of the fattest guitar and bass tones I've ever heard, drums sound massive as well. Love the ambience and sense of space on some of the tracks like Sit & Mourn.
Disembodied Tyrant/Synestia put out a fucking incredible EP recently too. 16:28 Nope. That was just a low "eugh". Pig squeels are higher and "E" (the vowel) based. They can be varied, but not varied enough to ever have you questioning if it is or isn't a pig squeel IMO. It's a pretty limited sound. If you do that low gutteral, you tend to introduce some strong overtones in the higher range. So, maybe that's what you heard, but I personally haven't heard any vocalist ever produce overtones strong enough for it to trip anyone up. Not a dig, just saying. The terminology of vocals in metal are already a sketchbook, just trying to clarify is all.
Knowing that Isaac is huge death metal fan it isn't surprising that his vocals are in the styles of death metal and his guitar riff part that repeats twice is also very death metal
C'mon reggaeTRON!! Haha, Suffocate at 7:54 Poppy infused fever dream of a track! So good! You should react to her EP EAT (NXT Soundtrack) and her cover of Spit by Kittie. And her latest single New Way Out was produced by Jordan Fish from BMTH!
Good to see you back Rich! This is probably my favorite album so far this year. Really looking forward to seeing them play in a few days. As for something to check out since you've been away, Face Yourself - Guillotine. This song is from the most recent of the 3 EPs they dropped last year. The drummer Eric owns Square Up Studios, and I'm sure you've reacted to music videos he made.

Wow. That's DEEP. Thanks for the context!

Sit & Mourn prob my favorite track of the year, so far. Don't Reach For Me/Blinding Faith are a close second.
Yes dude. Simpletons can't realize this bro
That's my favorite on the album too.
Absolutely agreed
This album is enough to bring anyone out of the woodworks. Welcome back Rich good to see you

@ninonsand1 its gonna need an absolute miracle to bring him back 😭😭 I miss Truant so much 😩😭
Having "This life can be way too much" as the final line goes hard
Slaughterhouse 2 grew on me
Welcome back Rich! Missed ya man!
AHHH MY DUDE IS BACK what a comeback missed you man can’t wait to see you continue the generational comeback 🫡

Love that since Gojira is one of my favorite metal bands. Slipknot/korn/gojira influences heavy on this
Great to see you back at it man ♥️🤘🏾
thanks man!
Guess who's back, back again, Janvrins back, tell a friend. Fuck yeah man nice to see ya again, this album fucks
I’ve heard several people mention Korn when listening to The Calm that Keeps You Awake, but to me it’s totally Sepultura with the drums. I think Isaac even said as much that Sepultura was inspiration for the drumming in that track.
Ahhh. Wouldn’t have thought of that.
Duuuuuuude it’s so great to see you again! Can’t wait to see what you’ve got planned man!
Hell yea bro always respect your opinion on metal
Long album closers are the best. Let the mood breathe. The longer a riff repeats the better it gets.
Welcome back!!! "Dont reach for me" gave me The acacia strain Wormwood/ Death is the only mortal era sounding guitar riffs.
