Brain Garris's vocals can take some getting used to. Something about his vocals just sounds raw and pure emotional. He doesn't try to sound like a demon or a pig, just a guy being super angry lol. The perfect hardcore yelling. Love that Brad immediately liked this record on first listen.
Bryan's vocals are a big piece of motivation for me to get back into music. KL's songwriting has only gotten crazier with time, and their current lineup's vocal stack with Bryan doing highs, Isaac doing lows, and Nicko with mids is CRUSHING. Bryan sticking with highs and putting so much into the performance makes the moments where Isaac and Nicko come in so powerful. It gives them a signature sound and slams
Yeah I've always told people it sounds like a angry guy screaming into a garbage can rather than a guy trying to make metalcore. Which is appealing to my sense of music taste. It does feel raw and gritty, which I love.
It took me a bit of listening to really get with knocked loose, but now they're my favorite band out there

a friend introduced me to God Knows late last year and it took me a listen or 2 to get used to his vox, but hot damn if that song doesnt go hard

@@dmndxdaveit’s supposed to be yeah but it seems people forgot that. Glad bands like this are bringing the actual sound of original metalcore back to some degree. They ain’t no Converge but I can stand behind what they are doing as a metalcore fan.

Bro you talked during the best part of the first song. "A tear in the fabric of life" makes the breakdown hit so much harder.
Permanent is probably my favorite off this ep. It really does bring me to tears. Just something about it. Now Brad just has to hear “deep in the willow” and “everything is quiet now.”

I can’t believe I missed this stream
I grew up with punk and hardcore - and Knocked Loose is the best I've heard in a long while. A lot of metal influence musically but otherwise it's pure hardcore ethos. Perfect mixture, comes close to Heaven Shall Burn, number one in my list of all time favourites.

@@elile8567 Yes, in its most basic definition it amounts to _"Metalcore = Hardcore + metal influences"_ but it gets more complicated at this point in time.
With _Knocked Loose_ the black X at the back of a hand showes up, a conscious reference to SXE and the "classic" 80's Hardcore scene - references parts of the modern Metalcore audience are at best fleetingly aware about because just as some bands they basically hail from the inverse approach of _"Metalcore = Metal + hardcore influences"_ culturally speaking.
That's not meant to be some sort of quality judgement or gatekeeping, no attempt to draw an arbitrary line of division but merely an attempt to illustrate where my comment came from - objectivly you are right and I'm probably unnecessarily complicating things, but it's just so damn difficult to express qualia in any meaningful way.. 😅

"So,
song 1: Guy convinces his girlfriend/wife/what have you to leave during a storm ("we should have left before the storm"). The car crashes obviously and she dies. The black figure shows up then, representing the beginning of the guilt that's gonna haunt him.
Song 2: He is forced to confirm her body and then attend her funeral, the feature at the end as the platform sinks represents her being lowered and his world literally crumbling
Song 3: he tries to come to grips with the fact that he has to live alone and can only hold onto her memory, even as he's forgetting the details ("the rain washes you away").
Song 4: he begins to go insane and, towards the end, believes he hears her voice (the light/white cloth represents her, as she "wraps him up"/consumes his mind)
Song 5: her voice leads him to the foot of her grave, where he digs her up and brings her home to make a shrine of her and/or necrophilize the body (hide you in my walls, rotting)
Song 6: he commits self end ("closure in a physical form", i.e. something real and not in his head) to be with her again, represented by him and her hugging in the hellfire at the end.
Also, Forced To Stay is my favorite. Those drums just go insane in the middle."
I will never be able to forgive the Sleep Token slander from my man bradley music, however glad he liked knocked loose, and I'm glad I watched this since I've probably only ever heard their song Deep in the Willow. Hoping Brad takes a look at Sleep Tokens Like That, Alkaline, Jaws, Nazareth, pretty much anything from Sleep Tokens older stuff (but lets be real all Sleep Token is peak, except dywtylm, I dont talk about dywtylm) Also hoping for a possible Bad Omens feature since they've got heavy, and Poppy [ 😉]

and deftones ripped off their style from a lot of dreampop and shoegaze bands. its just where inspiration for music comes from, loathe are incredible artists and them sounding similar to deftones doesn't discredit them

If you liked this and new metal/hardcore, may I suggest Boundaries Burying Brightness. Real heavy with hard lyrics. My favourite album, metal or otherwise of 2022.
I am so glad he reacted to this album. It genuinely blew me away. My first listen I got goosebumps hearing the music and reading the lyrics. Powerful album that was an awesome emotional head bang 🔥🔥🔥

i think the songs on errorzone will get a bit repetitive for him towards the end of the project, but that album is so great

does hardcore fall under metalcore? I've always referred to knocked loose (and heard it referred to) as hardcore, i always thought metalcore had clean singing and some other differences from hardcore like knocked loose

Metalcore is just a mix between metal and hardcore. The metalcore with clean vocals sounds nothing like the original metalcore. People usually call that type of metalcore "melodic metalcore" or "modern metalcore"
like others have said, metalcore was originally created as pretty much just hardcore with more metal influence, but over time got watered down into what it is today, knocked loose is much closer to the earlier styles of metalcore

Metalcore is the most confusing genre. How is this in the same category as Avenged Sevenfold?
This is in the “metallic hardcore” style of metalcore
metalcore just refers to bands that blend elements of metal and hardcore, avenged sevenfold leans more into the metal side with minimal hardcore elements, knocked loose pulls more from hardcore with a lot of death metal influence

when i see clueless idiots reacting to a concept ep like this and say "this song was unnecessary" (return to passion) i just get angry. no love and understanding for really emotional music
Bud, dont get angry over other peoples perception or opinions. He gave this a hugely positive score, as well as their most recent release a great score. Loved it, really connected with the emotion in the lyrics. Just because he didnt follow along with the lyrics and the concept of this album the first time doesnt mean he is a person that doesnt understand emotional music, or even connect with it. Everyone hooks onto a different thing the first listen. I wish I had explained to him HOW needed that 1and a half minute track is to the full experience. This album is one of my favorite albums, maybe of all time. The story it tells. But its fine that he didnt pick up on it right away. In this community, we can disagree but we dont call each other names.
Hardcore not metalcore
Please stop calling knocked loose metalcore, they hardcore. To lump them in with metalcore is a huge insult to their music
I hate that people act like being labeled as "metalcore" is an insult. It really isn't. Metalcore is just a genre of music. In some instances, it kind of crosses paths with hardcore and while bands such as Hatebreed, Code Orange, and Earth Crisis lean more towards the hardcore side, Knocked Loose incorporates many more metal elements into their music, especially in this specific EP.
They are literally metalcore. Metalcore is when hardcore is mixed with extreme metal. That's exactly what knocked loose is. They might be a band in the hardcore scene but the music they make is by definition metalcore.
They’re a fusion of both
This project in particular carries a bit of deathcore influence as well
There are tons of great metalcore bands. You just need to know where to look
“Return to Passion” makes more sense if you watch the animated film that goes along with the entire EP
