Thi band are amaxing. The drummer is a classically trained pianist who taught himself to play drums to fill in for a band he was in previously. The other band members are all self taught, including Tatiana who taught herself to false chord growl/scream. Add to that they're Ukrainian and their first language is Russian so when Tati sings in English, it's not her first language. Hope you get round to reacting to more Jinjer.
I've seen this band Live, and I've been seeing live metal bands since I was 16 "20 years" and I can happily say this is the tightest band I've ever seen - don't be a fool and deny their skills 🔥❤️
As others have said, "Perennial" live and "Pit of Conciousness" live are awesome. If you want to hear more of their diversity and don't mind checking out their studio sound, "Vortex," "Teacher Teacher," "I Speak Astronomy," and "Wallflower" are quite a bit different. But really, you can't ever go wrong with Jinjer. They're incredible musicians and Tatiana is an exceptional vocalist. Also, a fun little note, their drummer Vlad is a classical pianist and Tati has said that two of her biggest influences are Gwen Stefani and Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth.
@@patchwork7591 Yeah it's really unfortunate that he doesn't really get the credit he deserves since his riffs are intricate yet so groovy. He is one of my favorite guitarist right now.
Roman doesn't play leads per se or solos, and I think that's part of why he doesn't get a ton of props. In a way it's like a continuous solo, in perfect synchrony with the drums and bass. He uses a lot of dissonance and tri tones, and his lines are often bass-like in their melodic structure and super precision. Quite challenging to play. He's a brilliant and unique player, and my guess is he is the primary songwriter. I'm a big fan!
@@ericpeterson7512 In a recent interview Eugene said that he has written 85-90% of the music. With Wallflowers, Vlad had the majority of the ideas ready to go and that Vlad and Roman were locked up together during Covid. Them two worked out the structures and then sent out a crude demo to Tati & Eugene. I wish I could take their work and drop it in the desk of my music theory proff. From back in the day! All the so called music no-no's they pull off would make him tear up! Lmao!!
Great and entertaining reaction. Liked and sub'd. Jinjer (Tatiana on vocals, Vlad on drums, Roman on guitar, and Eugene on bass) is literally one of a kind. If you're want more...I'd recommend Pit of Consciousness Live in Kiev. More Jinjer please and thank you!
Jinjer does a lot of time changes as well as pull in a lot of different musical influences into their own thing. The more I watch their stuff the more I am amazed at the complexity and skill of what every member is doing. Each and everyone of them brings something really special to the band.
Yup that's all her. She uses her entire vocal system from top to bottom to get that resonance. You can't really "autotune" or pitch shift that stuff. A pitch shifter takes everything that comes in and shifts it down or up. It doesn't differentiate between what a singer does with their vocal chords (or in this case their false chords and soft pallet) and what they do with their teeth and tongue like "T" and "S" and "P" and "D" which doesn't change whether they talk, sing or scream. With a pitch shifter all of that is shifted down or up. If you hear those sounds the same way you would if they were talking or singing clean vocals it's not a pitch shifter. Tatiana has I think I've counted four or five different harsh vocal sounds she can do. The higher ones are more like screams or shouts the lower ones are pretty wild (their song Pit of Consciousness). I have a UA-cam playlist of live Jinjer stuff you could look through if you like. ua-cam.com/play/PLhlYsqoR9XLEpHTbaOovrpa1p8L2uZ81G.html. They also do more guitar, drum and bass playthroughs of their songs than I have seen from any other band.
Elizabeth over at The Charismatic Voice has a good interview with Tatiana about how she does her harsh vocals (she claims no formal training). And yeah, the instrumentalists are top-notch. When the current drummer joined the group is kind of when they took off. I've no idea what their training backgrounds are like, but I sense a lot of jazz influence.
Hey Michael, I glad you decided to react to/analyze Jinjer. I've been a keyboardist and vocalist since I was a kid and I've played in multiple bands over the years in various genres, but I was never into metal music with scream/growl harsh vocals until I discovered Jinjer and another metalcore band, Spiritbox, last year and I've fallen in love with both bands. what drew me to those bands was the diverse, consistently great songwriting, excellent musicianship and the incredible vocals of Tatiana from Jinjer and Courtney from Spiritbox, with both of them having the ability to transition instantly from beautiful clean singing to some of the best harsh vocals I've heard, female or male (although, I would say that Tatiana...aka Tati...is the absolute queen of harsh vocals). If you want to continue to dip your feet into the rabbit hole of Jinjer material, I can think of three songs/videos that would show their diversity...Perennial (live from Wacken 2019 video); Judgement and Punishment (live one take vocal performance video); Wallflower (official video...which is very cool and the song has a nice groove). BTW, I just saw Jinjer perform live at the House of Blues in Boston last month and they rocked the place!
I forgot to mention that even though Jinjer is generally classified as metalcore, the members have said that they hate being lumped into one specific genre because they like to incorporate influences from many genres of music into their songwriting (Tatiana is a fan of reggae/ska, hence the reggae feel at the end of this song and in their song Judgement and Punishment)
Behold, the talents of Tatiana, and JInjer. 100% her vocals. She has honed her skillz over the years and is the growl G.O.A.T. Every member of the band are masters of what they do. They can't really be placed into a single genre of music, and they incorporate their many different infuences into their songs. Dive into the Jinjer 'rabbit hole' and be amazed.
Was just sitting waiting for your face when she switched the vocal to clean. Lots of people can do the growl (it's amazing, but it's fairly common) but she can switch like no one else. Also, the band is so tight it's mind boggling. Bonus for the final style switch. Jinjer is a ride.
I am 54 years old and have been on stage 32 years of my life playing music. I found these guys a few years back just playing around on UA-cam and got my 22 year old son into them. I love what this band brings to the table. So unique and awesome musicians. Tatianna's voice is so beautiful and then in an instance knocks you of your ass with her growl. I was lucky enough to see them live and they sound even better live than their recordings. Just an amazing band and love them !!
Great reaction, I just saw them for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It was possibly the best show I've ever seen. Hope to see more, since none of there songs really sound the same it's a great rabbit hole to go down. Subbed
the growl sound is a distortion, which, I might be wrong, is basically abunch of almost-,notes that don't agree on a solid frequency with overtones so it comes off as staticy. The tone can be cleaned up with a condenser and other POST prod tricks. So no, not much can be done to artificially produce false vocal fold distortion or fry scream or other harsh vocals. I can growl pretty well for no formal practice, and can easily switch to cleans on a dime. Also for what it's worth, tati's growl diction is better than most. And it's in english. The only 'ukrainian' I've heard her sing is clean singing and it's on "retrospection"
Keep these coming we like the input that you have coming from your background on this separate genre. You dint have to ALWAYS teach sometimes watching people learn is fun too
In an interview from several years back, Eugene said that they like to play in different keys and whatnot in live performances. They are super nice and such a sweet band. Each one of them deserves all the praise that they get and more. They are excellent live! If you get a chance to see them, please do so. My favorite songs are I Speak Astronomy, Teacher Teacher, Judgement and Punishment, along with Wallflower.
Those vocals are legit. She uses what are called "false chord" screams or growls. Anyone can learn to do this technique but Tati has honed her vocals to damn near perfection.
Not a fan of growling, or much metal, (I'm a Deadhead haha), but I love this band! Top notch musicians playing very progressive music. Try Teacher Teacher, Tati is awesome and the band is insane!
She has a slight delay in the mic, but that's all Tatiana, and the band is such an incredibly talented one it's insane!!!, recommend Perennial live in Wacken!!
A good honest musician says, "That's not my genre and I really can't tell what's going on." It's better than any whippersnapper explaining to us what could be there. Michael is again exactly to the point. :)
But the subtext here is something like "game respects game." Myself I'm not into country, bluegrass, folk - but I'll shut up and listen when a solid artist is gettin' after it. Just because it'll never be in my own library doesn't mean it isn't a masterpiece.
Jinjer go their own way when they create their music. Trying to get Romans riffs and licks takes a long time to get! I hope you dive more into them. My favorite band of all time. Seen them live 5 times and everytime I get mindblown of how well they sound live 🔥🔥
Love Jinjer. I was able to see then in 2021 but missed them this year in Atlanta. For a while all of the react channels were waiting their video Pisces. Again they play with the timing in the song. Glad you had them on the channel.
Jinger is freaking awesome....yes it's in English. Tatiana has a beautiful voice....she can sound like an angel.......and a Demon....in the same song. In my opinion they are sorta like Primus.....in that they are pretty much their own genre.
Hey Mike, First off, let me tell you how much I enjoy your channel and your analysis, you're one of my absolute favorite channels going these days, I especially enjoyed your reaction(s) to Big Wreck and your interview with Ian, GREAT stuff, he's one of my absolute favorite musicians on the planet! Now onto Jinjer, another one of my very favorite bands on earth, this band is SO diverse, at times mixing jazz, reggae and several different genres of metal. Most of their music is VERY intricate and VERY heavy, but it's so unique and brilliantly crafted with off-the charts musicianship that they're an INCREDIBLY rewarding listen! Most people get into them from their song Pisces, which now has over 60 million views and has launched a thousand reaction channels! It starts as a nice, mellow, almost Incubus-like clean groove, with Tatiana, their vocalist, singing in a very Amy Winehouse reminiscent style before going full beast-mode on the chorus, blowing the minds of everyone who's reacted to it! They do use some doubling on their records, and will run some backing vocal harmony tracks live, but make no mistake, those growls are NOT autotuned and are 100% Tati's real voice! There are even raw camera audio videos of her doing it in the studio, and I've seen them live 3 times now, up close and in person, and Tati is THE greatest dual-threat/clean & brutal vocalist alive, she can sing like an angel and growl like Satan himself, and switch between the two INSTANTLY and flawlessly! The drummer Vlad, and the bassist Eugene are easily one of, if not the best groove section in all of metal, and their guitarist Roman's riffs freaking CRUSH, although for whatever reason, in spite of his obvious technique, he almost never solos! This is one of their heavier songs, but there are many others that contain much more clean vocals and intricate, dynamic clean passages that I think you'd really, REALLY dig! Check out their live from Wacken video of the song "Perennial", the excellent, trippy studio video for "I Speak Astronomy" and Tatiana's one-take vocal performance of their reggae-metal fusion masterpiece "Judgement and Punishment" next, I really think you'll enjoy it, and they make for awesome reaction vids. Anyhoo, keep up the awesome work with the channel and Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Great video as usual. Glad to see you hear this band. This is one of their older songs and somewhat simple as compared with their newer stuff. I think you'd love something like Vortex or Judgement and Punishment even Teacher Teacher. Hope to hear one of these songs on your channel soon.
I saw them in Melbourne, Australia the other week… one of the tightest live performances I have ever seen. Period. All muso’s are absolutely dialed in, and her voice was spot on.
As far as the vocals; over the years, a harmonizing effect has been used in extreme metal to make vocalists sound crazy guttural (mainly in the studio). Tatiana though does not use any effects to alter the sound of her delivery.
Great Reaction! I hope you continue the Jinjer journey, as a guitarist myself, the fact that none of their songs are the same makes it a fun trip! I think the song Vortex would get your attention!
So she does NOT use pitch fx for her voice. Check out the videos where Tatiana sings live in the studio....She is a phenom. This song is decent but not a good example for MP. Listen to "Pisces" as it has clear guitar and vocals.....it's an EPIC tune.
They are ass kickers for sure! I been a metal head for 30 years and haven’t heard anything like this since the 90s!!! I love the energy! They say to get that sound you need to eat yogurt and honey to keep from blowing out your vocals!!
Kudos for the genuine reaction. Subbed. There's a reason Tatiana sucks up all the oxygen in the room heh. But yeah the composition is awesome and all the guys are amazing on their instruments. Cheers!

@@andreas3992 any sound engineer worth their salt should at least attempt to be that 'extra band member.' If for no other reason that one's own reputation is on the line if you ruin the crowd's experience.
Not doctored. She can belt. Musicians are off the hook. Try Pisces as a primer. Not their best but it’s a studio session that shows some great work.
Yes, more Jinjer please. 🙏
Time to check out some more Jinjer. One of the few grooving prog metal bands.
Fun Fact: This band had two guitarists and when the other one left he just took on the responsibility himself.. That’s how good he is
I don't listen to a ton of heavy metal either and I just cannot get enough of Jinjer. They're so incredible, every single one of them
Jinjer are amazing. Such great musicians, so it’s no wonder your mind is blown.
I always hear about this band but I never actually heard them till now. Incredible!!
I am always amazed by how well crafted each song is, their latest album blew my mind from start to finish and as been on repeat ever since.
Yeah, "Wallflowers" is an amazing album.
Amazing work by all on that album. Roman though!! Some of the best guitar work I've heard, full stop!! Sadly went right over a lot of people's head!!
Lmao!!
Great reaction! More JINJER please!
JINJER - “Pit of Conciousness” is a must! 🤘🏻
Check out other Jinjer video, live or not.... you will be blown away
This is just the tip of the Jinjer iceberg dude. You need to take a trip down the jinjer rabbit hole.
No Autotune No Doctoring. thats them Live. Shes amazing and they are a super tight unit. Im not even a fan of this genre but they are top notch
Perfect timing, I'm going to see them live tonight!
Jinjer does a lot of time changes as well as pull in a lot of different musical influences into their own thing. The more I watch their stuff the more I am amazed at the complexity and skill of what every member is doing. Each and everyone of them brings something really special to the band.
I saw them live for the first time a couple of weeks ago. They are each just as amazing in person as on video/audio.
I've no idea what their training backgrounds are like, but I sense a lot of jazz influence.
this made my day thanks for posting brother
Welcome to the rabbit hole! I'd recommend to check their Vortex
I haven’t clicked on one of your reactions and liked it so fast as I did on this…love your knowledge and opinions!
Just saw then for the 2nd time last week in San Diego at HOB. This is the song they opened with. They are thr best thing in music today.
MOREE JINJER :D
Soooo, More Jinjer!!!!!!
Was just sitting waiting for your face when she switched the vocal to clean. Lots of people can do the growl (it's amazing, but it's fairly common) but she can switch like no one else. Also, the band is so tight it's mind boggling. Bonus for the final style switch. Jinjer is a ride.
That is all Tatiana. She is the Queen Godess of Metal. Bow to her Glory and prepare for what may come. MORE JINJER!!!
Stay on the wagon brother. They are so talented and have the variety.
Keep these coming we like the input that you have coming from your background on this separate genre. You dint have to ALWAYS teach sometimes watching people learn is fun too
Try Perennial (live Wacken) and Pisces (live session). Would be interesting to hear your opinion.
@T. Dougs yeah that song is me and my sister in a nutshell.
Love this band, go down the Jinjer rabbit hole Michael. Great grooves!
Believe it or not, it's not only that tight, but she's also gotten 50X better in my opinion in the last couple of years!
A good honest musician says, "That's not my genre and I really can't tell what's going on."
It's better than any whippersnapper explaining to us what could be there.
Michael is again exactly to the point. :)
Right!! Amazing how many turn on them when they can't!
It was absolutely adorable seeing you attempting to play like Roman🤣😂😭
Hey Mike,
First off, let me tell you how much I enjoy your channel and your analysis, you're one of my absolute favorite channels going these days, I especially enjoyed your reaction(s) to Big Wreck and your interview with Ian, GREAT stuff, he's one of my absolute favorite musicians on the planet!
I saw them live last week and they legit sounds this right. Find more live videos and enjoy!
JINJER FTW! 💙⚔🎨
There is no AutoTune needed here - It's all Tatiana's own voice! She is amazing!
Cheers!
Welcome to the Jinjer rabbit hole ... it would be one helluva journey if you decide to go there ;), lots of live vids of Jinjer doing Jinjer, enjoy!
More Jinjer!!!
