Pirate Looks at Forty is one of my favorite JB songs. “He Went To Paris” is one of his best songs. Great storytelling. Come Monday is also pretty great.

So sad to hear of Jimmy Buffett's recent passing in 2023. He was a great singer-songwriter, musician & actor. His songs had such a laid back island feel to them. I had a couple of his albums. He had a lot of hits especially in the 70's-80's such as "Son Of Son Of A Sailor", "Come Monday", "Fins", “He Went To Paris”, “Cheeseburger In Paradise”, “One Particular Harbor”, “Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes”, “Volcano”, “Boat Drinks”, “Pencil Thin Mustache” etc.

The way my heart jumped out of my chest when I saw you reacted to Jimmy Buffett! Wow! Oh I soooo hope you do more of Jimmy Buffet. He's an amazing story teller. He has written several novels and also wrote several children's books with his daughter. I absolutely adore him! A little piece of my heart died when Jimmy Buffett took his last breath. What a treasure! If you want to listen to a song that's nothing but fun, good vibes and silliness you must check out Cheeseburger In Paradise. Jimmy spent most of his life in Florida and was a self proclaimed beach bum. There will never be anyone quite like Jimmy.

Yacht Rock! He changed the "Margaritaville" lyrics up a bit for the live shows because everyone knew the lines. "Watching the sun bake all you tourists covered with oil" was original; he changed "tourists" to" Parrotheads", which is the name given to Buffet fans. "It's a real beauty, a Mexican cutie" is the original tattoo reference. He didn't break his leg. "I blew out my flip flop" meant his sandal broke, then he stepped, bare-footed, on a pop top and bruised his heel so "cruised on back home". Back in the day, the tabs on beer/soda cans weren't attached so after being "popped off" the cans, the ground was then littered with the sharp edged tabs. Thanks.

When people inevitably asked, "What genre is Jimmy Buffet?", I always answer YES. Jimmy is his own genre, his music is more vibe than anything else and nobody has better vibe than JB. Must hear songs of his. "He went to Paris", "Cheeseburger In Paradise", "Come Monday", "Fins", "Son Of A Son Of A Sailor" and "Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes". After that you will be a Parrot Head too.

Jimmy Buffett is one of a kind. Songwriter, performer, and astute businessman who turned his laid back, endless party vibe songs into a billion dollar business that included restaurants, hotels, alcohol, etc. Looking forward to hearing more of his stuff. During the pandemic, he recorded some of his older songs at home just on an acoustic guitar with explanations of what inspired them. Some of those might be interesting for you. I think it was put together by his daughter.

Managed to see Jimmy Buffett (RIP) twice over the years. Once at his "Margaritaville" Restaurant on Duval Street in Key West, New Years Eve 1989-90, he was solo and just hanging out. Then I saw him with the full Coral Reefer Band in Camden, New Jersey, with about 15-20,000 other like minded folks. Been listening to Jimmy since I was 20, now I'm 66. BTW Jimmy made a brief appearance in the cult-movie classic "Repo Man".

RIP Jimmy. I've probably been to 40 or more Jimmy Buffet concerts dating back to about 1975. One time I dragged my Jewish girlfriend from Brooklyn to a Jimmy Buffet concert, very unwillingly on her part. After a half hour into the concert, she learns over to me and yells in my ear, "This is fun!" Every Jimmy Buffet concert is a party.

Thanks Saeed for this one. This is the baseball park where the Chicago Cubs play.
Ive been to his show a couple of times. One in Florida and once in Massachusetts and when i couldn't get tickets ive just gone to party in the parking lot of his show. The tailgating parties that go on at his shows are legendary. There are just as many people partying out side during the show as there is in the actual show. They set up bars and Bbqs at their cars. Ive seen people with small pools in pickup trucks and petrol powered blenders to make margaritas. Ive even seen a swing set once that hat a canoe as the swing. They try to one up each other . The last one i went to we showed up at noon and the parkinglot was full but the show didnt start til 6pm. It was so much fun
Aa far as songs go , Cheeseburger in paradise, come monday, why dont we get drunk (and screw) ,and Fins are probably the most popular. But there are so many greats.

A Pirate Looks At Forty was written by Jimmy for a bartender in Key West named Phil Clark. Phil was turning 40 and was still trying to find his way in life. Phil did smuggle drugs from Cuba for a while as did many inhabitants of Key West in the early 1970's. Classic Jimmy Buffett lyrics and song and considered his best by many including Bob Dylan. Great song choice and great analysis.

    • @isinlarsa5996

There's a clip of Jimmy on a Jerry Jeff Walker TV show where they discuss Phil Clark. It is funny and poignant at the same time. I can't remember the name of Jerry Jeff's TV show; but Jerry Jeff is another "unknown" legend. Jerry Jeff and Jimmy were friends, although Jerry Jeff never got the acclaim of Jimmy (they even wrote songs together). Unfortunately, Jerry Jeff has also passed.

Cowboy in the Jungle is my favorite song by him. Here in Cincinnati, Buffett is practically a God, and I've literally been to close to 20 shows, includingthe one where the term "Parrothead" was coined. He used to do 5 nights a year here, and the shows would sell out in minutes. The cool part of his shows were that everyone got along and it was all age groups. My parents even went to a few concerts with us and we had a great time. Definitely miss Jimmy.
