This is his first big hit after years of trying to make it. ❤
“During an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman on March 23, 1983, Buffett revealed that “Come Monday” saved him from a deep depressive episode.
“This is ‘Come Monday,'” said Buffett. “It is a song that kept me from killing myself in the Howard Johnson’s in Marin County [California]. Well, it hit, and I paid the rent, got my dog out of the pound, and I was deathly depressed, too.”
He continued “I was in a Howard Johnson’s under Mount Tamalpais in Marin County and living there, playing in San Anselmo. It was awful, and I wrote this song, and it hit, and the rest is history.”

The title of the album is also from his near suicidal depression back then; “Living and Dying in ¾ Time”. You should listen to all of it, because it tells a lot about where his mind was back then. Amazing stuff.

Oh gosh, this is my #1 favorite song ever. The first Buffet song I'd ever heard, in 1974, a couple yrs before he released Margaritaville.
Does it not give warm and loving vibes?
"And, darling, it's I love you so. That's the reason I just let you go."
Yes, Amber, the sentiment is lovely. His voice is at it's best as well.
I've never seen this video as there was no such thing in '74.
It'll be played at my memorial one day.

Been a Parrot head since the late 80s. I was always a metal guy, but his music was such a clean break for me. We went Key West for a few weeks. Went to his restaurant and had a cheeseburger in paradise. One of the nights he came in, closed the place off, and performed some new music that he was trying out to see what people think. That music ened up on Banana Wind. He actually went around to every table, talked, and asked what we thought. I've seen him close to 30 or more times live since then.

I was in college at Univ of Fla when Jimmy starting hitting it big. He never forgot his roots and the people, and would stop off before or after his tours and do FREE concerts for the students. It was so amazing, his band would go off stage after about an hour of rockin' it out, and Jimmy would sit on a stool with his acoustic guitar and tell stories about things in his life, the tour, it was so personal and intimate... the way he could connect with every person there. He did this for 30 minutes or so, then the band would come back out and they would play more big hits to close the show. I will never forget it.

I've always loved this song. Another sentimental song of his which I love is "The Captain & The Kid". It was written in honor of his grandfather who had passed away. There are two versions of the song. If you do a reaction, listen to the version off of his "Havana Daydreamin'" album. He re-recorded it for this album and it is much better version in my opinion.

This was my introductory song to Jimmy Buffett...listening to it in my buddy's VW Bug, I asked, "Is this Roger Miller?" Some years later I was at a small venue called Tippitina's in New Orleans listening to The Meters when Jimmy Buffett came in and played a set. A short intermission came along and I went out to powder my nose. I turned around and Jimmy Buffett was behind me. I said, "I have all your albums since Rancho Delux." He replied, "So you're the one."

50 years to the day of his death he wrote this song. It was written in the Howard Johnson's in the San Francisco Bay Area town of Mill Valley, where I grew up. I knew that hotel well on Shoreline highway. Not from ever staying there but passing it by for years. He was depressed, away from his woman and playing the Labor Day weekend at the Lion's Share in San Anselmo. A place I've been to several times and where Janis Joplin's Memorial was held. A few of my friends and I, who have been Parot heads since our teens have had an annual end of summer tradition for years. We gather at our local beach on the last day of summer. Have a cookout around a bonfire, listening to Jimmy's music. At sunset we each take a shot of rum to toast the man and pour a shot into the surf for him while playing a favorite song of one member of the group... This year our simple little ritual took on a whole new meaning, and we all agreed that from this year forward, that last song will be "Bubbles Up".

Jimmy was as real as they get. Genuine, humble, approachable, loved his fans. He mentioned his only 2 and a half hit records, full of great classics I might add. He still ended up being one of the richest celebrities ever, but never ever let that go to his head. No bling bling, just Jimmy.

This is the first Jimmy Buffet song I ever heard. In the summer of 1975, I was a new college grad and was shopping for stereo equipment in a stereo store in San Antonio. The guy working there said, "Hey, listen to this" and played "Come Monday". He then told me about the sailing, treasure hunting life of this guy and I stayed and listened to the whole albumn. I was hooked on Jimmy Buffet. Not sure if I bought anything, cus I'm sure that I was broke. Jimmy was a treasure. A great voice, incredible entertainer, and he grew a business empire on his own brand. RIP Jimmy!

There is so much more to Jimmy Buffett that you need to explore. I would suggest the 4 CD album "Jimmy Buffett boats beaches bars & ballads". This album breaks down his earlier songs into those categories. He was such an amazing and kind man that truly appreciated his fans. He knew me by the character I dressed as at concert/tailgates but also by my name which shocked the hell out of me. He thought that was funny. I so miss that amazing man.

Great tune; should’ve been a #1; think it made #4. The tune that turned his life around and put him on the map! Great video ; shows how humble he was. The world lost a great one when JB passed away. So many favorites!! Hard to pick just one, so I’ll go with two: “A Pirate Looks At 40”, and “One Particular Harbor”❤❤❤❤RIP JIMMY BUFFET!! “Bubbles Up”!

I discover Jimmy with “Songs You Know by Heart” on cassette. This song came from a period of his life that many of us older people can understand. Work and responsibilities can take the life out of you. But Come Monday, it’ll be alright!

I'm with you all the way on this one, Amber! I remember like it was yesterday when "Come Monday" was released....... my graduation year of 1974 and it immediately became my #1 favorite song of Jimmy Buffett. Beautiful melody and vocal performance and the key change transition is one of the best I've ever heard in a pop song!

I've been listening to him since the mid '70's. The party stuff is fun and there are some great songs in his catalog. This and "It's My Job" are pretty mellow along with a hundred other songs, but there's some really fun up-tempo stuff out there too. Check out "Pencil Thin Mustache", "Fins", or "Boat Drinks" for some killer up-tempo stuff... and probably another hundred songs.

We will have license plates soon and there is a bill to make A1A Jimmy Buffet Blvd...he did such wonderful things for FL.

Jimmy's music can be divided into four categories: songs about beaches, songs about bars, songs about boats, and ballads about life, love, and family. If I were going to recommend one song from each, I'd recommend "Nautical Wheelers" (beaches), "Bama Breeze" (bars), "Take It Back" (boats), and "The Captain and the Kid" (a ballad about his Grandfather).
