    There's a little known trick you can do on the Quest 3 that I discovered by accident. If you start up UA-cam VR, watch a 360 video or 180vr if you wish, then you quickly press the Meta-Menu button, now you have 2 options Resume Or Quit, well you have a 3rd option actually, you can select the menu bar underneath, open 3 browser instances (or even apps), and now you have 4 apps open, you can for example work with 3 screens - while surrounded by a 360 video playing as your environment. You're welcome!

      Cool! One drawback is you can do 8k stream on Quest browser in UA-cam but not in the UA-cam VR app. In 360 vids recorded in 8-16K (like Air Pano), it makes a huge difference imo.

    We have to aknowlage the fact that all these small but convenient things the vision pro has over quest 3 are most likley accesable only if you have bought into the Apple ecosystem. If you don't have an IPhone, you most likley can't send messages easily like what was shown. If you don't have an Apple keyboard, you most likley can't get that handy widget showing you what you're writing. This would significantly shorten the gap between the vision pro and the quest 3, that in my opinion wasn't that large of a gap anyways.
    This is all while ignoring the price, as if you take that into considering, I would just automatically pick the Quest 3 as it is so much more affordable compared to the Vision Pro.

      It has cotroller support (just like iPad and iPhone games) and it accept PS or Xbox controllers and this is same for keyboards and mouses (only criteria it must be a bluetooth capable device, but can be paired with different manufacturers product , just like PS or Xbox cotrollers..)

    • @kbtjunior7419

      @@TamasKiss-yk4st But if you pair a random bluetooth keyboard, do you get that handy widget thing (by "handy widget thing" I mean the little window just above the keyboard that shows you what you're typing, the one that was also tracked and followed the keyboard around)? And does the sms app work with any phone? If not, then my statement is still true.
      As for controllers, It's great that you can have any modern console controller paired with any of the two headsets, but IMO having reglar VR controllers in box with every purchase is a hard win for quest 3 (mostly because gaming is what I use VR for). If you only really care about playing flatscreen games in VR or games that support using a regular controler, then this doesn't really effect you.

    I would like to say that Meta has free apps like Meta Workspaces and 3rd Party app Immersed (free and paid versions) that allow for much more flexibility with screens for your computer and also allow Zoom calls with your avatar. I'm surprised you showed some apps like that, but didn't really show that there is almost no difference aside from screen fidelity. Quest 3 is phenomenal for the price. Apple Vision Pro would be great to have, but even as an Apple Fanboy, that price point just isn't anything more than a flex.

    • @heyjustj
      @heyjustj 9 місяців тому +20

      100% agree. Fidelity is pretty much the only real world meaningful improvement the Apple Vision Pro has over other VR headsets. And to some that’s the only thing that matters so cool, go for it. And I agree watching movies on this is one of the best movie watching VR experiences out there. But it’s not really a game changer or revolutionary IMO. Most productivity and work require connecting to a laptop or desktop and then you’d be better off using your laptop with multiple monitors than trying to use the AVP. It may get there at some point, but I have a feeling that everyone else will likely close the gap on resolution by the time Apple’s VR ecosystem is mature enough to make more sense in purchasing.

I Agree on that tho, ill rather use my mac or computer in the normal way then what apple is trying to do

    • @Refreshment01
      @Refreshment01 9 місяців тому +8

      Its purely an image product... A perception builder. Sacrificing comfort, usability & price for image says all about the AVP. With its front loaded form factor when they already decided to split the battery, glass, alumimum, the lenticular frontal screen, all add weight.
      Like you said, people that actually do productivity, proffesional design work with mixed reality already had something like the varjo, which still has better passthrough. Limited battery life & processing diminishes productivity.
      The product does have its merits but its main purpose as of now is marketing.

    • @Rokmononov
      @Rokmononov 9 місяців тому +3

      At this point it should be clear enough that everyone claiming that Immersed or Workspaces are "the same" are either straight up lying or just happily ignorant - not having used both themselves. But that won't stop people from repeating this ad nauseum for the next three decades.
      More of this "oh ya sure but like, aside from fidelity..." bullshit. Are you all using 1280x768 monitors? Gee willickers, I wonder whyever not!? I mean there's no obviously no meaningful difference between those and 4K monitors aSiDe FrOm ViSuAl FiDeLiTy!

    • @heyjustj
      @heyjustj 9 місяців тому +9

      @@Rokmononov that’s the thing though, everyone IS giving them credit for making a higher resolution headset. It’s a MEANINGFUL improvement and looks fantastic. One of if not the best out there in that regard. The issue is beyond that the current AVP as it is today offers less flexibility than what we have seen on the market and that is disappointing. It’s like making a car that can go WAY faster but can only turn left for now. Not great if you’re trying to have a car to do actual work with. At the same time a car that’s can turn left AND right but is super slow is a painful experience. It’s why nobody really uses headsets for general computing work and only very niche applications. I’ve used mine for reviewing building plans which was extremely helpful to walk through the building before we approved plans.
      More pixels is AWESOME but unfortunately isn’t revolutionary and even in my niche use case wouldn’t have changed outcomes or productivity… in fact I don’t even think it would be possible to do with the AVP right now. I use apple products almost exclusively because I love their software and it streamlines my workflows. I don’t see how AVP is doing that at the moment. It doesn’t even really work well with an iPhone right now which is CRaZy to me. Hardware is great, but without something you can DO with I’m not super excited.

    I felt like this comparison was in favor of Vision Pro. You just demonstrated what ALL the Vision Pro can do and compared it what alternatives Quest have. You compared a productivity headset to a GAMING headset where the Meta shines. You didn't even feature the Touch controllers, PCVR capabilities, mod-ability, and the beta-MR to name a few. Quest is an Android - so it inherently has the advantages of Android (and disadvantages).
    It's not Apples vs Apples. It's Apples vs a Fruit Salad (Quest can be a productivity tool if you want it to be). I'm disappointed. But this is a personal comparison so, to each his own.

      Oh god. VR/AR social media is going to be the next big f-up in pop culture from Apple. Then again, most people are already there with their smart phones. Vanilla ice was right, the 90's(early to mid 90's that is) was the greatest decade before computers ruined the world. lol
      Don't get me wrong, VR gaming and mixed reality can be awesome and all, and i'm a huge fan of stereoscopic 3D, but the VR/AR social media aspect/features are going to take things another step further and prevent a lot of people from actually leaving their houses and socializing/having real world interactions. It has the potential to destroy people who suffer with social anxiety, instead of taking the time and actually working on their problems.
      I guess in the end it's all about balance. Do whatever you want at the end of the day and what makes you happy. I just prefer the simpler times. The 90's had the perfect balance of technology and pop culture, before the internet crept in during the tail-end of the 90's/early 2000's.

      Apple has been doing a very closed doors design, while Meta reality labs (oculus) has always been an openly transparent VR company that's now shifted to mainstream consumer marketing with over a Decades worth of R&D in the space. After nearly 3 years of hand tracking data from quest 2 the experience was really refined. Meta is currently testing fully 3D models for our hands next, now that quest 3 has full color and a depth sensor. Theyre also working on a more refined AR OS experience due some time in the coming months.

      It's one of the things that many reviewers failed to mention, as well as the blur you get when moving moving your head fast. Theres seems to be a lot of post-processing going on in the AVP that creates this blur/lag, while Meta opted for a more grainy but low latency image which helps a lot to combat fatique and motion sickness. The Quest 3 also supports 120 Hz which is really nice.

      The cost of the device is the consequence of having the best tech in you possibly can in the headset. The microOLEDs alone are more expensive to produce than the entirety of the Quest 3. Sure, you can cut corners, and even make a loss on the device like Meta, but at the end of the day, value is subjective, but in an objective sense, Apple probably takes a much smaller profit margin on this device than they historically do on Macs and iPhones because those devices have mature technology and economies of scale.

These 2D productivity apps on Q3 can not blend 2D and 3D, what I mean is you won't see a 3D chart appearing in stereoscopic 3D hovering in front of your Excel spreadsheet in Quest 3, the Vision Pro developer toolkits make augmenting 3D with 2D apps all running in parallel very easy. The potential of this feature is so massive it alone really qualifies the moniker "spatial computing", because its an entirely different category of productivity app that can be built... I know we've had some productivity apps on Quest 3, but those apps require full immersion and they were not built with native toolkits, they are built on top of game engines. Fundamentally this changes many, many things Q3 can now play Apple's spatial video, but come on' it's not "exactly the same". MicroLED displays in the AVP running at twice the resolution, plus 10-bit HDR panels running at about four times the color depth. Objectively, not the same quality opportunity for playback... One of these devices excels exponentially at productivity non-gaming use cases, the other for gaming. They offer a little cross over for general media consumption, with get-what-you-pay-for differences as expected. Ultimately for very different customers and I hope for most that is the take away from comparison videos like this one.

      Well I wouldn't say they're for different customers, but they are for different use cases. If the Apple Vision Pro was just more comfortable, I'd buy one - but I already find the Quest 3, with the best 3rd battery strap out there, still annoying to wear for even an hour. The AVP is even less comfortable because of all the fancy material they made it with which makes it unnecessarily heavy. But I still assume in the future the AVP will get real controllers and games, and considering it's a lot more powerful than the Quest 3, that will be impressive as the Quest 3 has some native games for it that are really good looking.

      @rmzzz76 9 місяців тому

      @@rodmunch69 There is no product category where this kind of price discrepancy (7x the difference) would have product A being for the same customer as product B. We can look at a cheap $20 watch you could go buy at Target vs a $120 watch at more high-end department store, or take that $120 watch and compare it to $1200 Christopher Ward Sealander watch. You would never compare a $1200 watch to a $6000 Rolex. Watches are a good example here, because you see all of these products are for very different levels of spending power and thus very different customers. But the Rolex customer, might also own a few less expensive watches, you get a little crossover on the way down but it's asinine to think one product priced 7x over another share the same market. They are marketed to completely differently, there's a different class, there's a different level of disposable income. We're not talking about a iPhone 15 Pro, which is maybe twice the cost of a value oriented mid-range phone, we're talking SEVEN TIMES THE PRICE. You need to understand what a luxury product is and the type of customer who can afford such things... On price point alone they are for different buyers. But beyond that the use cases also define what the product is. You can do a little gaming on Vision Pro, you can do a little productivity on Quest 3. Other than that very different.

    • @magyx3014
      @magyx3014 9 місяців тому

      Your review is pretty accurate, Apple as always have everything you want, build in to the headset. No tinkering required. For the true productive experience int the quest 3 you do need an app, like immersed. But isn't this also part of the quest 3's "ecosystem", this doesn't take away that you can do the stuff you could do on the AVP. So the only real difference is the fact that you could see AR graphs for productivity? Which, if you ask me, would not increase productivity and are just a gimmick...
      Your second point was the screens. This I totally agree with. The screens on the AVP are the crème de la crème. But then again, if you are going for productivity, why not actually buy a screen that is rated for color grading and other color accurate work?

    • @rmzzz76
      @rmzzz76 9 місяців тому

       @magyx3014 "So the only real difference is the fact that you could see AR graphs for productivity?" Well, there are not a lot of apps using the spatial features, so the graph hovering in front of Excel was just an example... Imagine you're using professional film-editing software like Final Cut Pro. The core app is presented on AVP as a 2D window, but with video editing you can have multiple channels that get mixed together, leveraging the spatial UI features, developers can easily use the Z-axis to deliver additional, time-saving UI, so those channel bars can be layered in 3D. Each layer can have different FX, etc... The potential for app developers who have been locked into 2D UI to now have the Z-axis for rendering is at the core of what will make or break the Vision Pro as a mainstream product, because there's opportunity there to build spatial productivity apps (that can all run in parallel beside one another) that achieve real time saving features. the video editing channels layered on Z-axis an example... If you can save a user 30 minutes out of their day with innovative UI, that can add up to tens of thousands of dollars a year, the return on investment of a productivity device is entirely different than a game-centered headset like the Quest 3... Quest 3 doesn't have the compute power to run a dozen apps in parallel. It's smartphone level compute vs Mac/laptop level compute in Vision Pro, Q3 architecture just much better suited for the full immersive experiences than multi-tasking, which again is why "spatial computing" is a nice simple moniker to help customers understand core differences here.... As far as "ecosystem", let's be clear, Meta does not have an Ecosystem. Sure, you can get Facebook notifications from inside your Meta Quest and post the Horizon World screen caps to Facebook through the Facebook app on MetaQuest, that's pretty much the entire "ecosystem" integration... It's unworthy of the term "ecosystem". With Apple, you're smart phone, your watch, your tablet, your AppleTV device, you Mac are all participating and offering up various time-saving ecosystem services, exchanging data between devices to save you time, give you more of your day back... Let's not forget, time-saving is what technology is all about. I would argue Apple and Google are really the only two tech companies with ecosystems and that gets to another huge problem for Meta. They own zero of their core tech. Their compute is built by Qualcomm, any competitor can buy the latest XR2 SoC and build a competing device and even their operating system is a fork of Android and still beholden to it for many things, one of those things being the core UI toolkit. There is no native Meta UI toolkit that lets you do what SwiftUI does for Apple developers on VisionPro. If you're writing a program for Quest 3, you're using Unreal or Unity3D. Everything built for it, almost everything built for it is going through some third-party game engine with strict licensing terms that only make sense for game developers... It makes perfect since for Quest 3 because in every way it's a game console, it's not a computer any more than your Nintendo Switch is. It's even marketed as a game console, and like the Switch, the Quest 3 is pretty damn good at its intended purpose.

    If they would have not implemented the front eyes screen it would have eliminated a huge cost and also saved battery life, weight, size, less compute power wasted, etc because no expensive curved glass front, no lenticular lens, no screen… would have made it a better headset. Unless there is some future use case or implementation that is better than what it currently is that was a major misstep to include. But I get it, without that front display it really is much more similar to other products on the market and it gives the impression that you are “seeing through” goggles rather than looking at screens.
    As gimmicky as I knew it was, it was the one thing I was excited to see because it wasn’t just a better version of what we’ve already had on the market, it was something new we haven’t seen implemented in a headset. I’m actually surprised they released it without that part being MUCH better.

I leave screens open with Gmail, Google Calendar, etc., as well as a larger one with a UA-cam video playing (the screens are resizable). Just jumping in real quick at 3.32 .. I use a foldable bluetooth keyboard on the Quest 1, 2 and 3.. Costing about £15 when I got it.. Works perfect with the Quest headsets and portable too.. Who can tell me you can carry, or you do carry your logitech keyboard with you?

    Two comments:
    - For the Quest 3 you only show the supplied screen system. There are others you can install like Immersed.
    - The Apple Magic Keyboard can also be paired to the Quest 3 (any bluetooth keyboard can)
    Also, if you plan on using your headset for any significant amount of gaming there is really no competition. The Quest 3 has a vast library of great games and can easily be used with SteamVR for PC gaming at high fidelity, either tethered or wireless. It also has XBox streaming with game pass paired up with an hand controller. And yes, ofc the Quest 3 actually comes with hand controllers which really is essential for games enabling so much more interactivity - it also enables a lot of tools that would be hard to do with hand tracking and pinching alone.

    The question is whether you could attach a document to the email you send in the headset. Im sure that if you were using google apps via a browser that might be possible. And presumably Is it possible to send files created in apv apps via email or link to icloud?

    Can you do a productivity comparison between the Vision Pro and 'just a normal computer'?

    Does the Quest use windows or what OS do you connect it with to have multiple windows like this?

    You should have demo’d the time it takes to actually get into these productive modes. How long from stand by does it take to setup a multi window environment / start writing emails

      any bluetooth keyboard or mouse, without a usb-dongle, that would also connect to an android phone will work with the quest

    You can use swipe typing on the meta quest 3. Is that available on apple vision pro? The video focused on supplementing the experience with a physical keyboard, but I think it’s important to note that there is swipe typing on quest.

    Is multi window support almost there? I don’t find the resolution is sharp enough without tweaking the native res of the quest 3.
    How about doing actual productivity? Using productivity apps, pulling your MacBook screen into AVP the significantly different resolution and much better pass through?
